Another big difference from the book: at the end of the book, Matilda actually does lose her abilities. As it turned out, she was only able to do so because she wasn't being academically challenged in Miss Honeys class, so her brain had to make up for it somehow. But that all stopped once she was transferred to a higher, more appropriate grade, because now for the first time in her life, she's being actively challenged, instead of having her smarts go to waste.
I literally had the Matilda syndrome (as I called it) since I was so thoroughly under challenged at (idk how it's called, like the first six years of my education?) that I had problems sleeping and had like urges to do stuff just because my mind was too busy at night. It was honestly pretty terrible (and no, I couldn't move things with my mind, such a shame), but stopped right when I went to the next school and did more than read the sillmarilion all day (read that when I was ten/eleven cuz again, I had nothing to do).
okay I get that Ending from that metaphorical perspective, but from a in-universe and telekinetic thats low-key trash. if you developed telekinetic powers the only reason you'd lose it is if you purposely neglect it... and being more academically challenged or not what child would give up beneficial abilities like that? which is in itself a form of mental challenge?

My favorite part of this is the behind the scenes. Mara Wilson‘s mom had cancer during the filming and Danny Devito and Rhea Perlman took her in and we’re basically her parents during the filming. Awful parents on screen but amazing people in real life!
Mara’s mother died before the movie could be released. So Danny Devito offered her before her time pass to see the final cut of the film before release. I can only imagine what that probably meant for Mara. Her mother would’ve been very proud.
I love the backstory I learned about this movie. Apparently at the time Mara Wilson was doing this movie, her mother was sick with stage four cancer. Her mother and father were attending a lot of treatments so DeVito and his wife offered to watch Mara for her parents while they were in the hospital for treatments. Unfortunately, the mother’s condition got really bad and she was permanently hospitalized and it was said she would die before Matilda was released in theaters. So DeVito took the only put together copy of the film they had (90% done) and brought it to the hospital to show Mara’s mother so she got to see the film her daughter helped make. And when she died before the film was released, DeVito insisted on a tribute at the end which is why there is ‘For Susie Wilson’. My heart just broke when I learned that. DeVito is seriously cool for all of that, none of which he was required to do but chose to do.
Also Mara Wilson stopped acting after this movie because she started getting sexualized. Similar to how Millie Bobby Brown, Billie Eilish and Emma Watson had countdowns to when they turned 18. Yuck.

Miss Honeys house is very different from the book. The main difference being that there is literally nothing in there besides a small camping stove, and two wooden boxes. Matilda didn't decide to help her just to get justice for Miss Honeys father. She also did it because Miss Honey needed serious help. There's a whole bit that mentions that the Trunchbull told her that now that she's an adult, she has to start paying her back for everything she did for her. The only money she had was a pound a week. The Trunchbull made her sign a paper that would redirect all of her paycheck directly into her bank.
@@sarahobah ah but she didn't. She took her salary. If the assumption is she killed the father for the inheritance, and given we find out Miss Honeys inheritance was never touched all this time, then the natural conclusion here is that after the father died, Trunchbull was informed she wasn't entitled to the inheritance because it's in Miss Honeys name, and thus took it out on Miss Honey by stealing her wages.

5:34 First off: at the time they filmed this, they actually were husband and wife. So what they did for this was put on a harness under the suit he's wearing, that connects to the hat, so when she tries to pull it off, he's holding it on with his whole body. So when you see her cutting the hat off in the next scene, she's actually cutting the wires from the harness off of the hat. The shot of the mom backflipping off the table wasn't her, it was a stunt double. And as for the cream tarts, what they did was set up miniature catapult seesaws, put a tart on one end on them, and essentially send them flying.

I have a theory that this sequence of escaping the Trunchbull’s house may have inspired Hello Neighbor!
That is so accurate
MoviesInDepth predicts plots faster than keyboards predict text. Not the foreshadowing 🔥
I remember when I was really young my parents used to tell my siblings and I that if we didn’t behave she’d send us to Ms Trunchball (sp?) because she “lived 5 mins away” 😂 I live in Ireland for a start lmao
Matilda is the creepy one she put Ms Trunchbull brother in Law on the chalkboard
Matilda is the creepiest girl she use dark magic with her eyes
This was my childhood and my favorite part was the end and it kinda reminds me the movie Gifted
The shot of her using her powers to pull a book off the shelf is actually a guy with a fishing pole pulling it off while laying on a skateboard.
That is incredible
18:37 Two stunt guys wrapped in green screens are smacking her with erasers
The Trunchbulls house was also the Omega Beta Zeta sorority house in Scream 2.
I'd love to see you react to the Garfield movies and Annabelle Creation! I loved your conjuring reaction. I laughed so hard and I enjoy watching your reactions!
Thank you!! ♥️♥️
@@MoviesinDepth you're welcome! ❤❤❤
They taking the cake... oh... wait just a few minutes, you have no idea.
Another couple of underrated movie is “The Pagemaster” from the early 90’s was one of the first to mix half live action & half animation and stars Christopher Lloyd, Whoopi Goldberg & Macauley Culkin & “Saved” starring Mandy Moore
‘Matilda’ is the High Priestess of Booktuber. She was a Booktuber before the term was invented.
Great reaction! What is the music after your outro? I really like it
The thumbnails be looking crisp and definitely helps you differentiate from the crowd, keep up the awesome work
literally the amount of nightmares i used to have about miss trunchbull as a kid, she terrified me sdfg
FINALLY YOU ARE WATCHING MATILDA. Sorry but I love this movie, and I’m happy you like this movie!
Fun fact. The actress who plays Matilda, her mother was dying in the hospital. Danny DeVito took care of her during the making of the movie, and when it was finished, her mother got an early copy before she died. And after her mom passed away, he took care of her afterwards
This movie was a cultural reset. Although the Queercoding of Miss Trunchbull has not aged well.
Fun fact : the portrait of Miss Honey's father is in fact a portrait of Roald Dahl, the author of the book " Matilda "
Amazing reaction to this gem! Yes please do a reaction to the musical film! And here’s another classic underrated film, The Borrowers (1997) staring John Goodman. 👩🏻📚🧠❤️
Wow
Rusted Root - Send me on my way
you're welcome.
Yesss
I actually did a performance for a music camp from Matilda the musical and it got me interested in the movie, and the entire time I was watching the movie I was like "WHERE THE HECK IS CPS WHEN YOU NEED THEM!!!!!" during the entire MOVIE!!!!!!!! (can I get a wha hoo for Matilda and miss honey in the comments?)
YES
also I did see a meme once from this point 5:10
5:34 First off: at the time they filmed this, they actually were husband and wife.
So what they did for this was put on a harness under the suit he's wearing, that connects to the hat, so when she tries to pull it off, he's holding it on with his whole body. So when you see her cutting the hat off in the next scene, she's actually cutting the wires from the harness off of the hat.
The shot of the mom backflipping off the table wasn't her, it was a stunt double.
And as for the cream tarts, what they did was set up miniature catapult seesaws, put a tart on one end on them, and essentially send them flying.
I would LOVE for you to react to Starkid and Goes Wrong Show. You would love them as a theater person
👀👀👀
@@MoviesinDepth Specifically, Twisted (Wicked but for Ja'far from Aladdin, so many Disney references) and The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals. And Peter Pan Goes Wrong and the Goes Wrong Nativity- absolutely hilarious.
I think the first time I saw this was when I saw Welchys video he did. But I could be wrong because I felt like I’ve seen it before then but idk. Anyways It’s really really good! I can’t wait for the new one that’s coming out! Love your videos!
Thank you!! And yes we all need more Welchy
"miss honey would you like to adopt me" #calledit
YEP
The Dahl's chickens quote is a reference to the BFG, another Dahl book
It's a cute movie, sorry I missed the premiere! 💜
It’s no worries at all!! Thank you for watching at all 😬😬😬😬♥️♥️♥️
The Trunchible is also Harry's aunt that he kind of inflates accidentally.
If your saying Matilda is a Horror movie, the REAL horror movie is Carrie.
This movie is fun. Great reaction
You should react to the new Matilda - 2022. You'll... love it.
I absolutely love that one. I have both Matilda's on dvd. They're both so good.
I liked the movie…kinda, but that cake scene absolutely disgusted me I mean cakes yummy obviously but that scene makes me not want to eat cake again.
Same. Just same.
I love Matilda!! I’ve watched it so many times and read the book too!! I’m really surprised u haven’t seen it!! It’s a classic!!
9:13 Someone else will be taking the cake later in the movie.
I had a huge crush on Danny Devito when I was little just because of the narration of this movie. I made my parents let me watch Taxi and everything.
Miss Trunchbull is more of a reality than you think. It’s very Victorian BRITISH Boarding School.
Loved this! You and Billy Binges should collab!
Agree!!
This is in my top 100 movies and a childhood classic fav
♥️♥️
8:06 Ms Honey is not Sarah Paulson
Danny Devito:I'm great I'm fat and I'm bald and I'm short
What a nice movie to see again on my birthday 🎂
Happy birthday!!
I am confused what do you mean ?
I don't have telegram and also I live in Lebanon 🇱🇧so that might ve difficult !
Ohh I saw the musical in the west end a few years ago and I loved it. I didn't know that a filmed version was being made, that's exciting! :)
14:11 little did he know.
9:48 I heard that tapping lol you want us to remember fish are friends not food?
