My favourite thing about this movie was the single woman dealing with life and the subversion of the Gold Digger Trope.
Also one of the things I appreciated when I got a little older she was working full time with a boss that would fire you from literally anything one child with lowkey OCD and the other is a menace to society 😂 I felt so bad for her at times

MRS. Kwan is one of the positive depictions of narcolepsy I’ve ever seen.
As a Hawaiian, I always saw my auntie Alice as Mrs. Kwan.
She was easily startled, always had a handbag with her track suit, would fall asleep watching us, she always watched pro wrestling, tv dramas, and horror movies, slept with the lights on cause she would scare herself watching horror movies, and would spoil us when we didn't deserve it ❤

Crazy that I finally found someone else who feels the same way about this weird movie that I do: having an odd obsession with it while simultaneously thinking it’s horrible and being baffled that this fever dream was ever made in the first place (though Rizzo definitely gets more way more joy out of it than I do lol). A few years back I somehow rediscovered the cooking show scene, showed it to all my friends, and we couldn’t stop quoting it to each other as it became an inside joke between us for a good while. It’s just… so strange on basically every single front, and yet that makes it all the more fascinating to me despite genuinely not liking it lmao.
Also speaking on your “the cat is an eldritch trickster god” jokes, Seussical the Musical (which predates this movie by a few years) sorta confirms this is the case in a light-hearted sense with the ways he interacts with and inserts himself into the plot so you’re not entirely wrong funnily enough

i used to have a massive fear of the cat in the hat as a toddler...to the point where my older brothers would say "OMG SCARLETT THE CATS BEHIND U ON THAT HILL (or anywhere)" and i'd start crying hysterically immediately like you'd think someone just stabbed a child. Now 15 years later, i quote this film every day in any situation because i love it so much.

This being an ADHD brain movie makes sense why I enjoyed this so much when it came out. I was 19 but I laughed my ass off... and I wasn't drunk or high when I watched it. To this day I still will just say "Chocolate Thunda..." for no reason.

I loved this movie as a kid just bc of how FUN TO WATCH it was!! I also really liked Dr. Seuss so I saw all of the movie adaptations, of course (And if anything, it definitely kept my attention as a child bc it’s a wild ride) & now I realize that this movie is so CAMP. I mean they clearly weren’t tryna create “impactful art” with this movie, it’s just entertaining and FUN and was meant for the whole family!! They didn’t hold back AT ALL. It’s so quotable and the world is definitely immersive like Rizzo said at the beginning lol

I have to say I never hated the movie or thought it was bad, but watching y’all watch it makes me realize it really was out there and a trip. One of my favorite movies and this would be a great “original” idea to apply to movies because this definitely is but isn’t for children and I know for sure cat in the hat was the doc’s mascot, but this movie was not for little kiddos in some points and I LOVE it

As a Floridian, i can tell you that the cat and the hat ride at Universal is EXACTLY like the winnie the pooh ride at Disney, just Dr. Suess. (and both are my favorite ride at their respective parks)

I was OBSESSED with this movie. I still remember almost every line and quote it word for word every time I watch it. It was my childhood. I feel a sense of comfort like I’m a little kid again watching this whenever I wanted to watch something entertaining. I love this movie and I will defend it with my whole life. 😂❤️
What I noticed when I watched it as an adult, that's the Cat is kind of the equivalent of Mary Poppins and Nanny McPhee because the three appear when there's problems and go when everything is fixed, and of course, they use magic for fixing these.

This whole movie was a set up. Joanne hired the cat to come and straighten out Conrad. The cat is a magical feline Therapist that teaches kids lesson in his fun unique way. And for Mrs. Quan being over, ever wondered why she was so tired? She overdose on Benadryl because she knew a giant cat would be there. And for Lawrence, Joanne don’t like him so she hired the cat to traumatize him, and she knows that military school won’t straighten him out, but a little bit of his own medicine sampling would.

I am from a non-English-speaking country and I was about eleven or twelve when I first watched it. Back then, all the adult jokes flew over my heads; not to mention some jokes don't translate well in subtitles. I just loved the chaotic physical comedy. And I certainly didn't find the Cat scary at all.
Back then, I didn't know who Dr Seuss was. While I still haven't read any of his works, I do know they are supposed to fantastically whimsical, not crackhead galore. So, I understand why many object to this film.
But, it still does not hide the fact that I still love this film. In fact, I love it more than I did twenty years ago. It is cathartic to watch a film about chaos, knowing you live in a world that demands order.
When I was younger I wanted the cupcake machine soon bad I loved this movie so much and now I'm so happy you guys watched it ❤❤❤❤😊
