Now I know he said it was the most transparent apartment tour, but remember that knowing where he lives doesn't mean you should go there uninvited to meet him. Be cool.
That actually didn't even cross my mind ... but it's a possibility that did come to your mind... I wonder why that is...I feel like there's more to your comment than what's written 😂😂
Sharehouses are underrated! I've seen a lot of foreign students move to Japan and get an apartment, but in a few months end up hating it because it's either too expensive or it's too small or not in a convenient neighborhood. Sharehouses allow you to get started living in Japan right away, save money, and let you get a feel for things so when you are ready to move into an apartment, you have a better idea of what to expect.
I had an AirBnb for a month...no other people. No initial fees. Completly furnished. Easy to book from abroad. Since it was just extended holidays I compared it with the available hotels. Was much cheaper than living in a hotel for this month. Much more expensive than this though. I think I paid 800$ for a month for 2 person. But this was some years ago. Since then I believe Japan cracked down on AirBnB apartments. Don't know if this is still possible.
@@blablup1214 yeah Japan really cracked down on Airbnbs. You can still get them, but they're not as many and they're more expensive generally. I wouldn't consider them unless you're only in Japan for a few weeks, and even then I'd shop around.
Kichijoji was already high on my list for when I eventually live in Tokyo (moving to Sapporo next year...it's complicated). This video really seals the deal. I'm a musician, and two of my favorite live houses are there: Sliver Elephant and Crescendo.
Definitely appreciate this video Shun, as someone trying to make my way out to Japan, I was concerned about foreigner friendly living spaces as I've heard the nightmare stories. I'm not a content creator so it feels just harder for the average person to come without a job already lined up, so could you maybe do a video on some foreigner friendly companies to work for? I feel like no one talks about that
I think the easiest way is to start as English teacher, I work for Kids Duo International and it has pros and cons but the best pro is they find apartment for you (not the most amazing but for the start is good) pay your visa and they help you with settling down like send someone to help you open bank account and fill the forms you need for the residence permit (most of it is in Japanese so the translator was very helpful I dealt with everything in few hours which was super fast)
Fabulous location and for young people just starting out, your shared house looks pretty convenient and very affordable. Thanks for sharing what your living arrangements are. Looks great!
Okay, not going to lie. This looks pretty amazing. I'm not the type of person who would want to live with a bunch of strangers, but... I'm planning to move to Japan in the semi near future & this will definitely be at the top of my list for living accommodations.
Very nice, it’s much like living on campus in a university dormitory situation. Except when I went to university, you had to share rooms with one other. Great area! You edit very well.
Shared rooms in America are really not too common. A couple of people can share an apartment which is almost the same thing. In my younger years, I would have minded it less than now. The two big problems are privacy and theft. So if you get good people, you're set. But in American there's a misconception of the "shared" part actually means. Perhaps that's not a problem in Japan. 😊
I mean that's more of a people issue not a American thing. There are good people and bad people. So it makes people wary also its not just a American thing people are like that in other countries too.
Greetings from Philippines 🇵🇭! Watching this video makes me miss staying at a sharehouse in Japan! I stayed in Kyoto though, and my host there is super nice, and I still keep in touch with her and her family. I would love to go back to Tokyo too. I can definitely appreciate Kichijoji more and have fun there if I ever make it back to Japan! My goal is to visit as much prefectures as I can! So far, I have been to 15-16 out of 47!
Sunroad and Harmonica yokocho are some of my favorite places to go to in Kichijoji! I always loved all the towns along the Chuo Line, besides Kichijoji, there's Nakano, Koenji, Tachikawa among my favorite places. Cost of living is also hell of a lot cheaper than central Tokyo (I define "central" as anywhere within the Yamanote line lol). I used to go to Yokota AFB on business trips a lot, and would stay in Tachikawa and totally fell in love with that city. I told myself if I ever lived around Tokyo, i'd pick Tachikawa to live. I heard they finished construction last year for Green Springs shopping center, I bet that area is even nicer nowadays!
Very useful video. I have no plans on sharing a house at all, but if living alone really turns out to be the hassle that you say, I guess I can share a house until I can settle in another place all for myself. With that said, I would feel very lucky if I ended up sharing a house with someone willing to show me around and maybe teach me more about the language, cuz I still kinda suck at it.
And reason #6, my girlfriend lives here as well! But seriously this is a great recommendation if even just for the Ghibli Museum. I’m going to have to come back to spend more time here the next time I’m in Tokyo.
I absolutely would love to visit Japan some day. I just don't really see it happening. I love the look and vibe of commercial and urban residential areas in your cities.
God Shun your production quality is absolutely top notch. Excellent editing as always. Blows my mind every video! I do hope that "fans" don't show up at your house though! There are a lot more crazy people out there now that Japan is fully open!
Shun! We missed you! I did a spit-take with my tea when you comically opened your treat box! What a laugh I had. Your neighborhood looks great and this shared housing deal seems fantastic. You deserve all the breaks you get.
10/10 recommend living in a share house! I lived in a share house in Tokyo for 1.5 years and it was amazing. I'm still good friends with some of the people I met there and can't wait to visit them now that Japan is open to tourists again. If I ever decide to move back to Japan I will also look for a share house first. The one I lived in was under a company called Social Apartment and it was super nice.
This is actually a really good idea!! I mean, shared house vs nice apartment... to me the apartment obviously wins (ossumung it's not a 10 sq ft box in downtown Tokyo, lol). However, if you'te busy trying to establish yourself (like if you're a college student or off-the-boat foreigner), then you can use your time in the shared house to establish residency, and then use that residency to bolster your credibility for other things (credit rating, job interviews, apartment screening, etc)
A friend of mine used to live in this huge house like this, they had to bathrooms, one kitchen lounge room area and there were around 7 bedrooms as well. Each paid for their own room separately, it was for university living, they were nice people
I could not imagine sharing a kitchen and shower with 10 other people, but in all honesty, the actual space in your share house isn't that bad. In fact, the rent is really cheap. I pay $425 for a room relatively the same size, but I share facilities with much fewer people. And for living in Arizona, it can be very expensive running air conditioning for 8 months a year, and yet the homeowner doesn't make us pay more for utilities during those months, so I think it's a blessing :)
I knew I recognized the station at the start! I studied abroad at ICU close to Musashisakai (which is like 2 stations down), and definitely spent a lot of my free time hanging out around Kichijoji. It had a really great vibe to it, and had lots of places to eat, drink and to shop around (lots of well-known thrift stores there). It's a really great neighborhood that is a bit less well known outside of Japan and won't be as packed with tourists.
I really enjoy your videos, but I can't be the only one who wonders why you (or anybody) wants to live in Tokyo. Japan is so beautiful. and there is so much to see - Tokyo is just another mega-city.
Hello Shun, great video! Please keep them coming. One thing though, you have shared a lot of private information about your residence in this video. I hope you don't get any unwanted guests or stalkers! Stay safe.
Considering he showed his 2-person bed, an opened box of condoms, and people-less window view, I'm guessing he's wanting some ladies to show up unannounced LOL.
adorable as always. I air dry my bath towel outside. Not good if a city with sooty air but. Share house sounds ideal for someone starting out. Kind of like a dormitory . Is it safe and secure? Hope you enjoy it!
Wow, the only way you could get closer to the subway station is if you lived inside one of the trains😂. Perfect neighbourhood and location👌! The share house doesn't look bad at all... It's clean, and your bedroom is a decent size. Hahaha flexing on your condom stash, I see you Shunchan 👀. As a Canadian🍁I air dry my towels and repeat use a few times before washing. Better for the environment. Congrats on your new home!!!🥳 Please make more videos, you're ADORABLE and the wait until your next video is always too long 🥺💔 Byeeee 👋😘
