Probably the best time to buy it - after it had failed on the market, but before the "retro" boom would artificially inflate the price of older game hardware/games.

1991 - 2005 (Ending with Oblivion, KOTOR, San Andreas etc) was truly a fantastic era for gaming. Dreamcast for me was the best unboxing experience and first boot ever. It felt so clean and warming.
Tell me about it. So many dreamcast games ran in 60fps yet fast foward today we have modern machines still pushing 30fps in a ton of games. The only way around it is pc, spyro and crash trilogy both are 60fps exclusively to pc, even ctr a high speed kart racer is 30. I would much prefer framerste over visual fidelity or at least a choice between the two
Still have a Dreamcast and still play it regularly. SEGA did a great job with the Dreamcast, if they had included a DVD player then it could have had a shot to retake their market share for them. The Dreamcast had one of the best launch game lineups ever.
it would have been cool if the dreamcast had DVD technology, however you have to remember that it was released in 1998 in Japan. At that time, DVD players were almost non existent. a and were ridiculosly expensive. Sega didn't have the money to lose when they were making the dreamcast
Well, they could have waited then, when they would be able to implement it with less risk. They had a pretty weak lineup in Japan at launch after all, so that situation may have been addressed as well.
This was my first game console but at the time I didn't realize how cool it was because all my friends had Playstations or N64s and I didn't, typical kid stuff. My dad was super into tech back in the day though and realized how much better this console was, now I'm glad that he did. I also had way too many games to play because he'd download and burn 2 or 3 new games for me everyday at work and bring them home. Ah, times were so much simpler back then.

"You can fight" (shows a game where you drive a forklift and feed a kitten more than you fight) Still love Shenmue though.
When is this console releasing?
He's joking. Don't be an idiot.

It will come out in 1999. Hype!
“It’s really smooth, I didn’t see any errors!”
Incredible console. Too bad the PS2 overshadowed it. I liked the Dreamcast more. It was so fascinating. The VMU and broadband modem.
Not to mention the first console MMO.
One of the best consoles ever. I had about 3 of them. Upgradable modem. The memory card. I remember when I was my ship people used to come in the berthing and just stand there and watch thinking it was a real nfl game on tv when I was playing the first 2k. Sega just never sticks things out or find enough developers to compete.
Let's admit the inbuilt DVD player of PS2 forced all of us to buy it 😂😂😂😂
@@rainehappy7097 If you mean Phantasy Star Online, it wasn't an MMO. It was just an online RPG.
@@DeltathRiylaan It felt massive at the time. lol
Such optimism back then. Probably one of the best consoles of all time, yet it almost killed SEGA :(
"Sonic will have to run pretty fast to catch Nintendo and Sony"
LMAO

@giftofgab247 Sony flopping? I'm curious why are they flopping they have the PS4 and just released two critically acclaimed games in two months
Now he's running on to Nintendo and Sony consoles
Sony is not flopping
@giftofgab247 I'm sure your parents think the same way about you
Saturn really didn't have to die as badly as it did. I play a lot of Japanese saturn games and I cant help but wonder what Sega of America was thinking by blocking some of these.
Saturn was the best console ever made, Also Xbox, GameCube

That game was my favorite in the Arcade lol
Nobody had a proper fitting clothes and everyone was greasy. I miss the 90s

Ah the good old days of gaming. If they ever came out with a dreamcast 2 I'd buy that thing in a heart beat. Sadly I don't think such a thing will ever happen.
I absolutely loved/love the Dreamcast. Vast array of game types and interesting ideas. Some of the best games were made for this system.
The games were turd mostly all were sports, fighting or arcade style n64 had 100 times better games and it was on its way out by this time saga dream cast was just arriving
@@xavierd3298 Dreamcast cannot be compared to n64 , it's more like ps2 was superior to Dreamcast
21 years later ps5 is coming out lol. Time goes too fast.
We will all die eventually)
Sega Dreamcast: 60 frame per second
Ps5: Ubisoft promise the new assassin's creed will never goes under 30fps on ps5
Unfairly fast i dare say...
@NINTENDO_SONYFAN SOLDIER The PS5 isn't even out yet but it's already showing promise
@NINTENDO_SONYFAN SOLDIER OK since you're not convinced go do this.
Compare the Unreal Engine 5 demo to the Unreal Engine 4 demo.
Or the PS4 Ratchet and Clank to the PS5 Ratchet and Clank.
The base PS4 can't play Spiderman at 4K 60fps but the PS5 can.
"60 frames a second, which is twice the speed of a TV"
the "our eyes can only see 30fps" of 1999
If you're willing to strech it, you could say that it is somewhat right because of the interlaced scanning technique that the TVs of the time used.
yes dreamcast had vga that could do progressive
@@metanumia most TVs from that era supported 60 hertz and 50 hertz though.and if im right a 60 hertz tv can output 60 fps.
"our eyes can only see 30fps" is wrong.
the saying was "at 30 fps we can not see individual pictures anmore, so for humans it looks like motion instead of a series of pictures"
I remember when the Dreamcast came out I used to see it in Hollywood video
why the hell is this being recommended to me
