Sega Dreamcast
Hey guys! To celebrate 25 YEARS OF DREAMCAST, I've released a new video about the launch of Sonic Adventure and the Dreamcast here in North America. You can watch it here 👉 ua-cam.com/video/kXluFqhZMCU/v-deo.html What Dreamcast games are you playing today to celebrate?
Like the new format dude!
Your dad was a freaking Legend man! He shared your interests, and supported you all the way to the end. What gift your childhood was Tyler. Glad you get to share it with your daughter now.
I agree. His dad is amazing !!
Jskskss
Tyler's biggest gift in life was his dad 🥲
He did make his childhood so much awesome & memorable.
Man, all these videos make me miss my wonderful childhood too. I started with the N64, but did play NES & SNES as a young kid. My brother had the NES and some neighbors had the SNES & Sega Genesis.
I'm an old 36 years old man now, but will always be a kid at heart. I'm super nostalgic & still love stuff that made me happy as a kid.
It was his dad's interest in games too. That's what made it awesome.
My dad has always disliked video games and would make fun of me playing them. Today I'm not even allowed to bring video games to his home. He said I was allowed to have them around him when i was younger, but now he's worried about me since I'm an adult and still like them lol..
As where his dad said video games were so great they could "make a grown man cry" 💙
Still I wouldn't change my dad at all,. He's a relic. He doesn't even have internet or a smartphone and thinks google is just some silly word.
They don't make them like that anymore.
But imagining a father who loves gaming is so cool, and so amazing he filmed this stuff. I bet he never imagined these vibes he filmed would be shared with so many people.
And then there's my dad saying the sounds my video games made still haunt him to this day. 😮😂
I disagree. The dad was overcompensating for a failed marriage.
I was there on 9-9-99 to get my Dreamcast at midnight launch at EB Games. I was 22 years old at the time; freshly graduated from college and in the workforce. I started a buzz at my new job in the lab as my infectious excitement enticed four coworkers to get their own Dreamcast. When I hear your memories, it triggers some of my own. It's heartwarming to think back on better days. Thanks for another nostalgia trip
The shirt you got with your Dreamcast is worth more than a used Dreamcast if the shirt is still in the bag.
I was there 9-9-99 to bro great times (born 6 months prior)
You could buy it locally long before in my country, but you had to go to another country to be able to buy it in my country. We didnt get one until after it released though.
I got mine 29th of November that year. Best console experience ever 🎉
I don't know if it's my aging or what but new after the PS3/360/Wii era, it wasn't as exciting anymore when a new console came out.
Parents importing a jpn dreamcast before US launch for epic 13th bday?! Holy cow legendary!
Dad knew his way around retail and mail-order that’s for sure!
House looks big as hell too 😂, sick childhood
S tier parents
Check out the rest of his videos. He had a gamers golden childhood. Imagine getting the PS6 or PS7 a year before everyone else. You would be a legend.
His dad without knowing it at the time ! Helped his son create an awesome channel of brothers & sisters aka a Big Ass Family of video game lovers at MY RETRO LIFE! ❤️ it ! Thanx dad because your our dad too and a part of our memories when reminiscing the days’ !!!!
I miss sega consoles so much
This channel offers a rare glimpse of not just gaming back then - but life as well. VERY few people actually recorded and documented experiences as extensively as your pops :) I'm about to turn 38 so this is a BLAST from the past, from an era long gone by lol
Bro had the Dad we all wished we had growing up.
My dad was similar. He LOVED video games and toys. We had systems before our birth. They made sure we had all the games
no way my test tube was way cooler than your dad 😎

The dad I wish I had was phillip banks.
@raphael9783 the pedophile? 😂
You’re dad was the man with those camera angles every time you were playing a game he always captures the end and it’a dope!
The Dreamcast didn't just die. It got the old yeller treatment
😢
They straight up canceled *Propeller Arena* even though it was completely finished. Such a great release that would have been, I mean I kind of understand why but still...
The ps vita had a similar fate.
@@BdR76well Propeller Arena was still to be released later in 2001, just like Sonic Adventure 2 didn't come out til summer of 2001, like 5 months after the announcement of the Dreamcast cancelation
(quite a few games were still being released even months into 2002)
But then 9/11 happened.
And with the type of game that was, it was just a bad time PR wise to put that out.
That was according to an interview with Yu Suzuki (the man behind Shenmue, who was also the man behind Propeller Arena)
@@joshuabates38 The Dreamcast and PS Vita to this day, are still pure fire!
Dreamcast will forever have my heart. This video just took me back 24 years ago, and watching you guys live through it makes me cherish those times even more today. It’s always a great day when My Retro Life pops up in the notification screen with new content to enjoy.
Thank you always Tyler for what you do for this community.
Thanks bro it really is something I do for myself and the amazing byproduct is that others like you actually get something out of it too! Thanks for being here and we appreciate the Super Thanks!
@@MyRetroLifeCan you please do a nascar video since you did wwe?
Tyler I'm so glad you came back. I've been a fan of yours since 2015 when you originally uploaded your home videos and I'm just glad you're back..
@@MyRetroLife Do you still have all of your old consoles and games?
lol when you said 24yrs… I thought , damn this ninja old.
Then did the math and was like ….oh, we’re the same age 😂
I bought the Dreamcast on a whim when I worked at CompUSA. I bought it with Sonic Adventure and Soul Calibur. Completely blown away when I broke it out and started playing. PSO wound up being how me and my best friend were able to play games together while he was away at college.
PSO?

@@bdr7576 Phantasy Star Online - basically the first proper console real-time MMORPG. It also blew me away. I remember practically shaking with excitement when I first got it online. I almost couldn't believe that you could play with and talk to people from around the world in an incredibly awesome RPG game like that! It's still my favorite game of all time and you can still play PSOBB on private servers for PC.

Phantasy Star Online I believe. One of the first console MMORPGs
Hey guys! Thanks for watching the new episode. What were you playing on Dreamcast back in 2000? Have a great week!
Shenmue
Mine is Resident Evil Code Veronica X one of my fave title of RE:Series how about yours Dude 😎!!
Shenmue
i didn't own a dreamcast, nintendo's pokemon trading card game for gameboy was taking up my attention in those years.
I got a Dreamcast for my birthday in 2000. The games I played the most were Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2. I also owned Soulcalibur, Incoming, Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future, Sonic Shuffle and probably others I can't remember.
The Sega Dreamcast is still one of the greatest consoles ever made.
I don’t know how I’ve never noticed this before: you have your dad’s voice! I think that adds to the awesomeness of your channel: it’s like having a piece of your dad narrating every video!
Don't compare a person's voice to someone else's. Takes away from their individuality.. 🙄
Crazy the Dreamcast is closer to the 1970's then it is to 2024! Played the heck out of Shenmue 1&2. Turns out they're RPG's. Didn't realise that until 2010/12.....over a decade after completing the games.
Shenmue literally started as "Virtua Fighter RPG" on the Sega Saturn. There really hasn't been anything like it since
*Turns to dust*
RPG? More like an Adventure. There's barely any RPG elements in Shenmue.
Man, it's incredible how good your videos make me feel. They transmit very good energy. I love watching all of this, your childhood, your adolescence, your life in games. Your father was a true hero. For me, the Dreamcast was the video game that most impacted my life. I got him a few months after I lost my father and he was my company during months of sadness and depression. I don't even know what else to say, thank you for having this channel and sharing your videos and memories with us. 😉👍
I spent so many hours with my brothers playing techromancer on the Dreamcast and countless other video games. Such a good console that will never be forgotten.
I am a fellow Houstonian Gen Xer, I just discovered your channel and it brings back so many memories.
I had an awesome Dad (He passed in 2017), he was a lot like yours but he didn't document everything like your dad did.
Our Generation grew up with video games and the video games grew up with us.
It's a dynamic that the current generation can't experience.
I worked for one of the smaller game stores in town (Gameproz) but we dealt in imports and retro before that became as big as it is now, I finished college in 2000 and actually invested in one of the stores, purchasing it in 2002.
I did well until GameStop surrounded my location (4 stores within 3 miles of mine) I had to close it up within 2 years but it was a blast while it lasted.
So many memories....hundreds if not thousands of hours in all of those 2k games 😭
Best sega system ever made. I miss the Sega Dreamcast so much. Sonic Adventure, Carrier, Hydro Thunder, Sword of the Berserk, RE Code Veronica and Blue Stinger. Those days were glorious.
Yup! I enjoyed it a touch more than the Genesis too. Although, the Genny' had the huge luxury of coming out back in 89, when pop culture was a butt-ton butter. As far as DC goes, I got mine on my 15nth birth day at launch after coming home from school. So many amazing get togethers during Summer with friends playing Power Stone 1&2, Spawn in the Demon's Hand, Soul Calibur, Cannon Spike, House of the Dead 2, and so much more. My biggest regret was not getting my dad to record those moments. But that's just the reality for most of us way back when unfortunately.
Sigh. The Sega Dreamcast was the last none Nintendo console that actually had me excited. Truly ahead of it's time, everything about it was incredible, from it's design, it's 'name', the VMU, the stunning huge momentous leap in visuals compared to PS1 & N64. If it had lasted a full 5 year generation it would of spanked the Genesis....After DC died, i moved on to the GameCube. It was alright, but for me, it failed to capture that magic, energy & uniqueness the way the DC did. Plus, pop culture went to crap in the 2000's so that obviously didn't help either. ;)
You miss it? Why?
Just play it.
Garbage.
I wish Sega still continued consoles in the modern days, they made great consoles like the genesis, Sega cd, Sega 32x, Saturn, master system and dreamcast
XBOX is as close as we'll get.
32x is far from great
@@robert5235 i think they shouldve just released the neptune, but with CD support. And skipped the saturn instead and have made those games for the neptune. The dreamcast was awesome though. But everyone was and still is playing playstation. Sega had already fallen out of favor by the time the dreamcast released even though it was by far the most powerful console at the time.
@@D3sdinova they probably should’ve just skipped over it and leaned into Saturn support instead of splitting the market.
Lol 32x
Every video you upload makes me happy!
😊
The mission: buy a dreamcast and invest in Enron. What could to wrong?
Lol enron

Man, i am from Brazil. At that time, It was not easy to buy new releases of vídeo games. The sacrifice we had to do here to buy was bigger than you guys in U.S.A. Even saying that, i always admire your father in the vídeos you do, because, Even If you probaly always knew you would have the vídeo games, your father always made a big effort to impress you as son. For me now, with 41 years old, like a father, it's beatiful for me seeing that. I like your vídeos, i watched many, i like because i lived this era, not like you, i don't had this consoles until i can pay for them, but i remember the expectation, i would love tô have them at their release, and i like to see who could have. But, the First thing let me continue tô watch many videos of yours, is about your dad, his Care inspire me.
The Dreamcast is one of my favorite consoles of all time so many great games! Sonic Adventure in particular is one of my favorite games and one of my first games back then! I can’t wait for this one Tyler!
Hope you enjoyed it!
@@MyRetroLife i always enjoy your videos man! Till the next one! :)
I’m the same age as you, and I was there, too, in 1999-2001, just in awe of SEGA at their creative peak and unabashedly trying to convince all of my family and friends to buy into the dream. Your videos bring back all of the feels.
Selling my Dreamcast & games is one of those systems I wished I would have kept I absolutely loved the Dreamcast. Hydro Thunder was my most loved DC game I couldn't get enough of it. What a way to start your teenage years it's so cool you have so many memories on video 😊
I had a cousin who I'd never met come stay with us at Christmas in 1997, and he had a PlayStation, and got a 64 for Christmas. I remember playing a demo of Tekken 2 of the PlayStation, and GoldenEye on the 64 for almost 2 straight weeks...... I'll never forget how fun that was
The Sega Dreamcast was so far ahead of its time. The Internet connection/access alone was ahead of the times. PS2 didn't have internet 'till 2001, a full 1-2 yrs behind Sega's Dreamcast! The game titles and the graphics, should've helped push the console to the masses, and it did on some level. Unfortunately, Sony's PS2 DVD player was a HUGE deal for gamers, especially new gamers. In addition, the massive fan base Sony built-up from the PS1, really propelled the PS2.
My roommate had a Dreamcast, and I played the shit out of it. I even called in sick a few times just to go on 12 hr plus binges. Personally, I loved The Dreamcast. I owned a PS1, and was a fan, but not a super mega fan. In 1999 and 2000, I gravitated towards The Dreamcast. I honestly thought The Dreamcast was gonna be around for years, and I was excited to watch its library grow exponentially. Anyway, grat video. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! 😀 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
the ps2 was not just a DVD player, yes it was reported at the time that half of the ps2 sales was because it can play DVD movies out of the box and a very cheap DVD player at that and the DVD movies was insanely popular back then, but the ps2 was also more powerful than the dreamcast.. it turned out the DC was in fact a 32Bit console but it was capable to push far more polygons than the ps1 and N64 combined, where the ps2 was the actual 128bit console.
also it was said that it's not technically the ps2 what killed the dreamcast it was the stupid moves of Sega of America's boss, he got paranoid by the ps2's specs and immediately throw the towel into the ring without giving the console a chance even before the ps2 to be out.
with the decision of stop the support of the DC many devs who were actually willing to develop games for the DC dropped out and cancels their games for the system too in fear that they might works tirelessly on the DC version or port and no one will gonna bother buying them.
sure the DC might gonna struggle keeping up with the ps2 and later the NGC and OG Xbox if the plug wasn't pulled off too early, but it would be enough lifetime to keep the DC fan more happy.
These Dreamcast episodes are my favorite.
I was all about playing Soul Caliber at my buddies house after school, playing Phantasy Star Online until 5AM online with the keyboard with the dial up modem, getting on the leaderboards in Sonic Adventure, talking into the microphone to a fish with a face, grinding the rails in Jet Grind Radio, and dropping off passengers jamming to the Offspring in Crazy Taxi. It hit hard when I heard the Dreamcast was not going to be supported anymore and that SEGA was no longer producing consoles. I appreciate that they are still making games, but being on Team SEGA since the Genesis, I lost something when they sunset the Dreamcast. Thanks for the video Tyler, always great reminiscing with your home videos!
I got a Dreamcast in 99 shortly after it was released. It was so freaking cool at the time. It was light years ahead of the PS1 and the N64. Played the hell out of it with friends and fam all the way through to about 2003
I was born in 85 and my dad got me the Dreamcast for my 13th birthday as well.
The Dreamcast was probably the only console that I got the week it was released, and it is the only console that I ever got that felt like a true next gen console that was vastly improved from previous gen consoles.
Also, Manny was right to love WSB 2k1. I was OBSESSED with this franchise, as well as the NFL2k and NBA 2k series on Dreamcast
Also must add, this is one of my FAVORITE UA-cam channels. Just such great content. Love seeing you and your family enjoying games together back in the golden age of gaming.
9/9/99 will always stick out to me as Dreamcast launch day. My brother came home with one and i had no idea he was getting it. They just had them ready to buy at the K-mart, no hassle just walk in and get one. I really wasn't hyped for it, I even wondered why my brother bought one and then i played Soul Calibur all night long and my mind was made up then and there. Such a special time for me.
It's a shame that your Brother was r.t.r.d. Or he would have bought one of the good consoles from that time.
Props on the Top Skater footage! That was my favorite arcade game of the time. There would be no Tony Hawk Pro Skater without Top Skater.
Totally forgot about that game 😅
And there would not be Top Skater with out SKATE OR DIE!!!

My brother came home with a Dreamcast on 9/9/99 and we played it for like a week straight. I had just graduated from college so the timing was perfect. Powerstone is still a great game and I still love the Dreamcast.
The Dreamcast D pad was a dream. best dpad ever… no one will do it like that again. It was high and so smooth and responsive
Year 2000, Got my first townhouse at 20 and my Dreamcast was the staple of my living room. Nice CRT, surround sound speakers and 4 controllers😌 man, I miss those days. Better times👍🏾
When I tried modding my DREAMCAST so I can play the Japanese version of SHENMUE, I didn’t do it correctly and my DREAMCAST stopped working. So I bought a Japanese Dreamcast and was happy to learn about the paper clip trick so it can play JAP and US games. What a time 😂
Yea man... I remember summer 2001 was soo epic! We spent time playing sonic adventure 2, doa 2 and capcom vs snk
The Dreamcast is one of my top 5 alltime favorite consoles, and I’ve been owning consoles since the 1970s.
I just have such fond memories of the Dreamcast. I was quite bit older than you were, and maybe because it was a time in my life where things were happening that were really good. I got my Dreamcast on 9/9/99, and moved to San Francisco 2 days later for a great new job, and to be with my gf (who became my wife). Just an all around great time. SF being a tech capital of the world made it exciting since I love tech.
But man, the games on that system were just fantastic. I was just so blown away by so many of them. Crazy Taxi and Ready 2 Rumble were just so much fun as launch games, along with NFL2K. House of the Dead 2 was another I played a lot of. And I loved Air Force Delta. Hydro Thunder was a blast.
Later games were great too. And though they didn’t have support from EA, Sega’s own sports games were phenomenal. First system to have true online play, built in 56k modem.
Just an exciting jump into the 128 bit gaming pool. I remember my buddy showing me Star Wars Episode I: Racer and Rainbow Six on his PC, and months later, I was playing them on my Dreamcast, two of my favorite Dreamcast games ever. Just a special time in gaming.
I never had that special feeling with my PS2, though there was something special with the first XBox, it kinda felt like a Dreamcast, or a newer version of it.
This what UA-cam about man Tyler Dad still lives cause of these videos feel like he here now THATS WHAT UA-cam IS ABOUT SO COOL love yall
The Dreamcast was the only console in my life whose cancellation genuinely bummed me out. I had never seen a console gain such an amazing library so quickly, and it seemed like the grand return of the Sega I loved during the 16-bit era.
All of 2000 on the Dreamcast in the US was like the grand finale of a fireworks show. DOA2, THPS1 and THPS2, SFA3, MVC2, F355 Challenge, Shenmue, and so many more. It was my first online gaming experience. It was my first experience of the internet of any type at home. The DC web browser was what got me online at home. I didn't have a PC. The times playing great games, the times spent with good company, good family times. Everything was incredible, and I'm so happy I could experience it.
As someone who also lived in Houston, and was around the same age with a Dreamcast on launch day: this episode had an extra nostalgia blast for me.
We felt just like you did: Sega was back!!
Seriously almost every single one of my friends got a Dreamcast, we were all subscribed to the magazine, all had SegaNet and played online together, and took our VMUs with our Chao to trade and train during the school days.
There were just smash hit after smash hit game releases, the whole way from launch til the end in 2001
Truly the most exciting console to have owned during its life. Never before or since, has another console swept me in as a super fan, along with all of my friends, like the Dreamcast did.
It was an absolute phenomenon.
Even when the PS2 launched, Dreamcast was still the big thing in our neighborhood (up in Kingwood), and hardly anyone got the PS2 initially
It wasn't until that Feb. 2001 issue of Dreamcast Magazine, where it was announced in the Editor's monolog that the Dreamcast was being canned, that all of our souls were just devastated, and for the first real time, we started considering a different console to get for that generation.
But there were still some heavy hitting games that had yet to come out for Dreamcast, and we held on to the very end;
Most of us didn't get a PS2 til around winter of 2001 (some got Xbox, and others got Gamecube). And it really was only by default, as we knew Sega games would be going to all of those consoles, and no longer to the Dreamcast.
Had the Dreamcast kept going, it easily would still have been the most popular console in our neighborhood.
If you went to our little town in Northeast Houston back then, you would come away with the impression that the Dreamcast was the most successful console of all time, and that PS2 was the slacker.
Dreamcast was just SO popular there.
What an amazing ride that was, and I'm glad to have been a part of it.
SALUTE to the Dreamcast, and SALUTE for this excellent video!
I never had a dreamcast but I still remember looking at one they were selling near my house. They even had it on the window so every time I passed around that place I would see it and dream of playing all those awesome dreamcast games.
As someone the same(ish) age who had a dreamcast at the same time- yes we were hyped. But we also knew it was doomed, especially those who read game magazines every month. None of us wanted to believe it, but we felt that storm coming. Especially by October/November it was pretty obvious what was happening.
bro getting starcraft on the PC back then was the best freaking time! i cant believe u got footage of that!
Such an underated console. I didn’t have mine for long and only a few games but I loved it. I remember a game called toy commander which I absolutely loved and played more than any of the other games I had at the time
overrated at this point. And I owned one at launch and hated Sony with a passion.
Toy Commander was a cozy and fun game!
I was born in 96 so I grew up with the PS2, but still, just seeing two people playing in the same room together brings back so much nostalgia. Nowadays everyone plays online away from each others that has benefits if you can’t be there in person. But I miss connecting with people personally while playing games.
I still remember when I got my dreamcast, I was probably like 6 or 7 at the time, I regret giving mine away and it took me a long time to realize how underrated that console was back then
Somehow had your channel come up. Were the same age, you loved the same games I loved, and your dad acted in the exact same ways for you that mine did for me. I wish you all the success in the world with your channel buddy!
That’s amazing bro! Here’s to our Dads! And thank you for the Super Thanks 🙏
I got a Dreamcast on christmas 2000 and one guy said to me at school in 2001 that the dreamcast have already fail and will no longer making game anymore ,i didn’t not believe him until the end of the year i even got NHL 2k2 because i am canadian and find out the dreamcast was really dead 😢 my parent got me a gamecube on christmas 2002 !!!
I was working at Best Buy when both the Dreamcast and PS2 came out and when Sega said they were done with the DC and moving forward strictly as a developer, my DC library increased exponentially as our store had to liquidate all DC games to get them off the shelf at reduced cost.
I still love the Dreamcast and had a friend of mine a few years back modify one of my DC consoles with a beautiful 3D printed internal carriage that has an SD card connected to an emulator board that has a ton of DC games on it and one of the overlooked DC games I told my friend to include, that I'm still surprised to this day hasn't been ported or gotten an HD remaster, is D2. I remember putting many hours into that action RPG sequel to D on my DC and I wish more people would talk about it so that a remaster can eventually come along to modern consoles and PC.
I bought a Dreamcast years later maybe 2003 .. I was so excited getting my used .. first one.

Absolutely! Glad I get to
I too was a early adopter of the Dreamcast. In 1999 the original ps1 and n64 were absolutely no match for the Dreamcast. A lot of people were waiting for the PS2 but the PS2 launch titles were crap compared to the Dreamcast's launch. It really was like having an arcade at home. I bought a lot of Dreamcast games at the time because it was the first time I had a job. Wish Sega would have kept going with the Dreamcast for a couple more years here in the States.
😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
So you're r.t.r.d?
Titles?
The PS2 launched with a single title in Japan, and still sold 10 - 1 to it for DVD playback alone.
SEGA were fools not to go the DVD route honestly.
GTA III was released, PS2 became a legend.
you summed up my fondest memories of the Dreamcast well - I just remember that no matter what game you played on the Dreamcast it was super smooth with no hiccups and usually had great graphics. Love that your dad is so passionate and was never shy to record the smallest moments, so special
For it’s time the system was so good, I think everyone was shocked about it abruptly dying
I couldn’t believe it because PS2 was trash at the time. Good games on PS2 came AFTER the Dreamcast was gone from stores.
I'm from Australia, Melbourne, and i can't explain how addictive and nostalgic these videos are, even loving you talking about your summers, we can relate, when it's over 100f and the skin is peeling off our feet playing cricket. We run inside, grab a sunny boy ice block and smash some daytona usa. Loved every minute of those days
The hype for the Dreamcast was off the charts!
Tyler this is one of my favorite videos you have done yet because it really conveys how the special memories get tied to generations of games (and it really captures the beautiful times of the millennium)
Dreamcast is in my top 10 consoles, and really think it was ahead of it's time.
What’s your top 10 brother ?
You were blessed to get yours as a present. I had to work for mine. 😂 Summer of '99, my birthday wasn't until another 6 months from now and Junior High graduation another year from now so I spent my Summer at my grandfather's hardware shop in Dayton, Ohio to do errands and upkeep for 2 and a half months until the fated release date of 9/9/99. It was the first console I bought on retail and the first one I bought with my hard earned money working in that shop and it taught me a few things about that trade, all the while anticipating to make enough to buy the Dreamcast and a few games.
To this day it's still my all time favorite SEGA console.
I’m a 87 baby. But for some reason the Dreamcast was most nostalgic to me. Maybe because I loved the system and the games that were on it so much.
87 baby here too! Dreamcast just did something that other consoles from Gen 6 couldn’t. I loved all of Gen 6 regardless.
November 1987 baby here! Time is flying, man 😂. The dream cast was ahead of its time.
As 87 babies can I ask you guys something? Do yall like the 2000's or do you feel like you guys were too old to appreciate the stuff coming out that decade?
@@TheMasterofDisaster48 everything from 1990-2012 was my favorite part of so many things. 2013-Present has a lot of hidden gems as well for things that I love, but not like the 90’s/2000’s.
I think overall the beginning of the 2000’s were some of my most memorable times in gaming with how online or multiplayer games did for our community such as LAN parties and video game clubs in high school or university campuses.
My friend let me borrow his Dreamcast in 2000 along with Shenmue, San Fransisco Rush and a few other games. We were blown away by the graphics and sound and I'm still impressed with this console. That friend is gone now, we couldn't have imagined that war and drugs would enter our lives and cause so much chaos. But I still love all them dudes and cherish our time together.
Still love this console, I prefered it over the Ps2 and OG Xbox... It was on the same level as the Nintendo Gamecube for me personally.
I have watched all of these videos over the last few months. I see a lot of comments saying how great it was of your father to record these moments.
That is an amazing thing. Though what I see is something much more special. These are not just recordings of you and your family. These are the memories of your father.
These are the very point of view of what he experienced as a dad. It is like looking through his eyes and living his life. This was what he saw, this was his joy.
Most people can look back in their own memories. You get to watch all of his. That is the true gift.
I am quite certain that your father inspires other men to spend more time with their children. Just like he has done for me.
it's still sad to see how sega had to exit the console market
Broke my heart, as the Genesis is also one of my top 5 favorite consoles. So I was a HUGE Sega console fan. At one time had the Genesis, Sega CD, 32X, Saturn, then the Dreamcast. Also a fan of their handhelds and had the Game Gear, and then later on the Nomad.
I would be first in line if Sega ever released a new console.
It is a shame. I wonder what SEGA consoles would look like today if they never stopped and were more successful
@@PulseXP-yo8wuit would look like a PlayStation or xbox
@@PulseXP-yo8wu Given how they specialised in the arcades, and the arcade scene right now is... not doing so hot, I'm kinda glad we don't have a current gen SEGA system.
They likely would've had to change their approach and it wouldn't be the same. So seeing SEGA leave on a high note was likely the best ending in the long term.
@@The_Prizessin_der_Verurteilung How the fuck would the success of an arcade effect the success of a console? You really think the Sega Genesis was a success because of Sega's involvement in the arcade scene? And actually you're wrong about the arcade scene not doing so hot. Both Round One and Dave & Busters are very successful, and we've even seen the rise of arcade bars. Maybe try exercising a little critical thinking skills next time before posting nonsense. Just a suggestion.
I'm very grateful your dad filmed all these kewl moments. There's not a lot of footage of what it was like growing up in the 90s. And this nostalgia is my happy place. Thank you!
I've been seeing a lot of main stream references to the Dreamcast lately and SEGA has been talking about the future. Can you imagine if SEGA came back to the console market with classic old school games without battle passes and DLC? I think would take the gaming world by storm
I have always hoped this would happen. It would mean the literal world to so many.
Employees of SEGA, if you read this, please make this happen!!!
Id love a sega system to come back
@@barone8999 We are so overdue for another player in the market! Someone who stands out from the Sony/Microsoft and who can take on Nintendo
SEGA only has 1.5 Billion cash on hand, I'm not sure if they could create a full home console with that amount. They would have to create the console, and also beef up their first party release schedule. They would also have to make the tough decision to decide if Atlus games were going to be exclusive, or if they would continue to sell them on other platforms to keep the money coming in.
Another amazing video , Tyler. The Dreamcast will always have a special place in my heart as it is the first console my dad bought me back in the early 2000s. We couldn't afford an Xbox, which is I what I wanted, but I appreciated my Dad for the dreamcast all the same
Dude I love your Dreamcast videos , I’ve got the sports Dreamcast and all my games still … I have such a deep love for this console because of the memories and the amazing library … thanks for another great video
I was 14 years old and saved up months in advance so I can buy the DREAMCAST back in 9.9.1999 and I was so excited to purchase the first console that I paid for. Those were magical times and I can still remember the commercials leading up to the date. SEGA was definitely ahead of its time.
Love this channel! 👌🏻
Glad you enjoy it!
Holy growth spurt Batman! The transition from when you got your console to hanging out with your cousin looked like 5 or 6 years had passed when it was actually like 2 (1998-2000). I think that's one of the main reasons why kids of our generation are so attached to the Dreamcast. It came at a time when we were transitioning into young adulthood. The last hurrah of our childhood, and boy was it a great time to be a gamer.
Sukks you guys missed the best videogame gen(6th gen). Even the 7th gen had great testosterone fueled games like God of War 3, Arkham Asylum and Arkham City.
Thanks for the fun times.
Mission accomplished! Dreamcast out!
The 2k series games on the Dreamcast would be enough to sell me on the console too. I remember seeing WS Baseball 2k1 on display at Babbage's before it's release and it seemed like an eternity before I got to see it on the shelf lol
I remember being extremely jealous that Resident Evil Code Veronica was a Dreamcast exclusive for a time. It was the only game that made me want a Dreamcast. I never got one though, I went with PS2 instead
I still remember playing the Sega Rally 2 Demo at a Kiosk outside a gaming store when I was 13... and it blew my god damned mind. N64 and PS1 and a little bit of Saturn are all I'd seen up until then. It just floored me! And it quickly became my favourite console of all time. The Gamecube is a close second.
one analog stick. ONE??????!!!! SEGA, you needed to do better than that!!
Love your content brings back memories of me and my pops 😢 RIP POPS
My buddy got one for Christmas ‘99. After he got a PS2 when it came out, he sold his Dreamcast to me for cheap. I only had it for about a year before I also bought a PS2. But I loved it- so much so that I bought another one again a couple years later just to revisit some of those Dreamcast exclusives. One of my favorite consoles to this day.
The nostalgia from your channel gets me upset so often i wish i could go back and relive it all again for the very first time. I am so glad your channel exists to teleport me my mind back to these days.
Me and my brother to this day still talk about the Dreamcast. It was the best Christmas ever when we got it. First game we played was nba 2k. The graphics blew us away. Long live the Dreamcast!!
I remember 9-9-99. We had saved up and preordered our Dreamcast, but we also were there to pick up Final Fantasy 8, which I believe launched the same day.
Boy we played a TON of Soul Caliber that night.
Wow, this video captures such an incredible summer with the Sega DreamCast! It’s amazing to see the bond between you, Manny, and your dad - those memories are truly special and make your story even more unique. I remember only getting a chance to play and rent the DreamCast once during my childhood, but playing Spawn with my buddies left a lasting impression. It’s awesome to see how much joy and connection these games can bring to different people. Thanks for sharing this nostalgic trip down memory lane!
I never had a Sega system growing up until my friend brought over his DC on my bday in March 2001. Pkaying DoA and Shenmue converted me. However it was soon after, I believe, they announced discontinuing it. I was heartbroken. Oddly, my DC stopped working in Oct 2001, and I sold all my games for cheap. I had already moved on to swooning over the Xbox, which I would be getting as a Christmas gift. I did eventually get a DC again off eBay but games were already expensive to acquire. I do appreciate the DC in getting me out of the gaming funk that I had been in. I had grown out of the N64 and wasn't playing much. Great memories though.
I wasnt even born when the dreamcast came out . But getting one a few years ago , made me realise how underrated it is . Love playing imports on mine . Also , thank you tyler for making these videos. They help me calm down during my battle with my autism as an adult and i get excited for every new video . Thank you for what you do .
Thank you so much man. It makes me so happy knowing the videos are helping you that way.
@MyRetroLife no problem man. Your videos have had a positive impact on my life .
Dude, You're videos have been keeping me entertained for years, Maybe I'm just a sucker for nostalgia lol but man those days truly felt special. Would LOVE to see you do a ranking or Tier list video of the many consoles you grew up playing sometime!
Thanks man! I really should do that
It's always great seeing Dreamcast content on your channel! Recently been playing some Sonic Adventure, Fur Fighters, & Shadowman! The games were next level for it's time! Sadly I didn't get 1 til 2002 a year after it discontinued. Such a great system deserved way more!💯
Great timing Tyler. Just bought a Dreamcast 2 days ago and played it for the first time in 20-21 years or so.
As a longtime gamer, Sega super fan and someone who's lived in Houston since 1983, these videos make me so happy. I loved my Dreamcast so much. Tony Hawk on the system was so good and i wish i still had mine.
I got Dreamcast on launch day. I’ll never forget playing Soul Calibur that first day and being absolutely blown away by the graphics. I don’t think I’ve ever had a wow-moment in gaming as big as that. I was surprised more people didn’t buy it, a lot of people were waiting for PS2, but Dreamcast was out now. You could have 128 bits in your home today, there was no way I was passing on that
I remember walking into my local game store and seeing the kiosk running Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast. I was floored by the graphics. We had an N64 at home and it couldn't come close to what we were seeing.
