    Just a suggestion. If that is the mica blue you can use silver leaf first and then put the mica blue on top. it makes the color a little brighter but shine so much more even without a clear over it. It seems to make all the mica colors just beautiful.

    Thank you for sharing this wonderful video!!!
    This is exactly how I paint my kits, a Japanese friend of
    mine taught me the basics on how to use paint from a
    spray can.
    Tamiya has the best model hobby paint, both bottle and
    spray can!! Mr. Hobby comes in second place for me, I
    use Mr. Hobby paints as well.
    They are both excellent quality paint products!!

    I use Future(brand name) floor polish for clear coating. It's a lot cheaper then model paint and you can wash it off if you mess it up if you do it before it completely hardens.

    I’m going to have to 100% disagree with you about not being able to get a glossy finish with cans. The reason YOU can’t get a glossy flat finish is your technique. First mistake was your second and third colour coats should wet coats. When you said to quickly mist on the final colour coat I cringed. All you did was add texture, taking away from the flatness. Your clear coating, the first one should be a mist coat and the rest should be slow and wet. Any dry spot will become textured. If the clear coats are sprayed wet the finish should be very glossy. You just might have orange peal from the high pressure of the cans. For cars I actually prefer to use canned clear because of how much sprays out.

    Tamiya website says to never use their rattle cans on plastic kits which cuts out most of their products, and yet you seem to have handled it perfectly. Just want to confirm with you that Tamiya rattle can paint and primer are okay to use on a Tamiya 1/24 kit before making any purchases.

I'm going for pearl white on the R32 Nismo Custom kit, would you recommend going with the pearl white paint and a standard clearcoat or standard white paint and pearl clear? I believe the pearl clear instructions said to apply before the paint so I would need regular clearcoat on top regardless, right?

    I just cant seem to get good results out of Tamiya rattle cans. I prime and gently sand, maintain proper times between coats, shake and roll the ball bearing for 1-2 minutes AND heat the can; I always start away from the piece and trail in and keep the nozzle clean, and I STILL get speckled, bumpy gloss colours. What could I possibly be doing wrong?

    • @TheScalemodelingChannel
      @TheScalemodelingChannel  7 років тому +1

      Aah ok, thats a different story indeed.
      The basic idea behind this is as follows:
      The bond between the tape and paint is stronger then the bond between the paint and the body.
      In this case the stronger bonds wins, resulting in the paint peeling off of the body along with the paint.
      You need to sand the body before you apply primer, i and with 600 grit. After this you can apply paint, or sand the primer with 1000 grit for the paint to stick better. If this is all done correctly the paint should not peel off with the tape.

    I see orange peel even in the first mist coat, Really light as suggested
    Could it be because the paint is too old? (maybe 4 year since I bought it?)

      Spray booth and tack cloth is all i have to say :P This seems to work for me, Youll always have 1 or 2 but by using a good tack cloth and a good spray booth it gets rid of a lot of dust.

      The end result will not be as strong. nor will it look as good. Also the Primer acts like a fine filler for sratched in the body, and helps the color stick to the body a lot better.

    Using automotive paint will it damage the plastic?

    • @TheScalemodelingChannel
      @TheScalemodelingChannel  9 років тому

      Tamiya is not automotive paint. Though automitive paint would not damage the plastic if the correct plastic primer is used.

      From the same brand as the rest of the paint you would use for color and clear prefferably
