I have a similar booth, all I did to modify was tape up the small gaps on the sides and seal the back hose mount to avoid air leaks. All in all, I am very pleased with the booth as I live in a very small apartment in Japan this is great size for me.
@@fragglerocker8316 It definitely won't bother your neighbors. Besides, it'll almost definitely be quieter than your compressor, so that'd be your main issue.
Thank you so much for doing these videos. I’m homebound and disabled and I have always wanted to learn to air brush ever since i was a kid and some photo realistic painting done with it. Being on a fixed and limited income I’ve decided to try modeling and learning to air brush and videos (and tips like you share) on your channel are awesomely helpful for noobs like me. Thank you for taking the time to do this. It’s very generous of you to share your tips and knowledge.
I bought my first airbrush yesterday, nothing special, Harbor Freight. I heard someone say it's better to buy a cheap kit than to never try. Theres a Hobby Lobby next door. HL is doing 40% off all models for another couple days. Either the 22 or 26th How's the modeling going?
This guy is out here making videos for the people. Money has always been the prime barrier to entry for airbrushing, but nowadays there are budget minded options. A lot of people like myself hesitate when it comes to these bargain options (understandably) so I'm really glad there's a pro out there willing to drop the coin to test them and give honest reviews.
With the candle test I think incense would work better since it's always smoking it'll be easier to move it around and get a good idea of maximum distance from fans it would work and where the sweet spot of a spray booth is.
I have the older version of this spray booth, it has a single fan, I did the LED lighting installation myself, and I got via Amazon, the extractor bell with 4-inch outlet and a flexible dryer hose (9 feet long) also 4 inches in diameter; I've had it for more than two years and it's excellent!!
I’m in the UK, and I put a spray booth together for around £40, which is probably around $45. I simply picked up a used cooker hood from a kitchen refurb locally for £20, then some pieces of plywood to create box sides, then used a cake stand. The vent at the rear of the cooker is four inches, so I used tumble dryer flexible hose to vent through a window. I don’t know how suitable a cooker hood in the US would be, but the type I have here works for me.
Thanks for this video. I build in the basement and don't have a spray booth. Right now I'm spraying out in the garage using a cardboard box. Living in the Chicagoland area it limits my spraying to the summer months so between this booth and your pail system I'm going to be able to spray year round. Thanks for everything you do for us modellers.
Would you mind explaining the mechanics of the bucket you are using with the booth exhaust? I don’t have an easy way of exhausting the air from my booth and that has heavily constrained what I can do in my hobby room. This looks like a potential save to my hobby dreams!
One thing that I didn’t see mentioned here from other users is that you can take off one of the side walls and attach two booths together to have a giant spray area. It’s a really great option for large scale models or terrain.
@@barbatosrex9473 wish me luck it’s my first time doing this painting stuff haha. Please post more videos on setting up the compressor and airbrush haha. I ordered lacquer paints for gunpla. Good video, I like that the light can be turned on independently of the fan. I figured $100 USD would be about $136 CAD, which seems fair.....then checked Amazon Canada and it was $225 + $24 shipping.....

Ive seen people make them out of spare cardboard if youre looking to go really budget.
As someone new to airbrushing, I'm in an apartment and do not have ready access/easy access to be able to vent outdoors. I mainly use only acrylics and enamels would this be a viable starter booth for someone in my situation?
If you can't vent the particle outside, buy some sort of container, fill it with water & point the fan pipe into it with cardboard & duct tape, with some cutting That way the dust collect on the water & you can just open a window to dissuade the thinner smell Please use 3m 6200 mask with 6001 filter during spray painting regardless of a working spraybooth or not
I just got into the hobby and got one of these, it works but boy it’s loud! I just listen to videos with my noise cancelling headphones on. My issue was that although it comes with fans one in front of the other, only ones facing you in the booth turn, it’s odd. The other issue was that I did not find out till later that the hose connection had a gap in it so spray dust was leaking out there, nothing that some Vaseline didn’t fix though!

thank you for the video. Instead of a "candle test" look for a "smoke pen". A friend of mine works as a chimney sweep and uses these smoke pens for testing the air draft and if everything is airtight
Might be overkill, but using a smoke ball would be a good way to see the air flow! As the vent is going, blowing air at the smoke could be a great demo
One big warning with cheap Chinese spray booths: Only use them with water-based paints. A *lot* of these aren't properly grounded and have exposed copper in the wiring. If you're painting with lacquers or other flammable paints you're basically aerosolizing fuel and compressing it with a ton of air in a metal box. One spark from shoddy wiring or static build up because the case isn't grounded....and that's basically how an internal combustion engine works.
It's funny that I found this video while I was looking at this particular hood. Now I just need to figure out if I can fit a Caestus Assault Ram or a Storm Eagle Gunship inside it for painting. There's no way I'm doing those larger vehicles by hand. I'm really sold on the idea that it's portable, because I have limited space for hobbying and I'd like to be able to take it down to use the space for other things when I'm not running the air brush.
I enjoyed your video. When you were discussing covering the bottom with black foam board, I thought that maybe a black oven liner would work better. Plus it can be cleaned. Just wanted to share a thought.
Made my own out of cardboard and inline bilge fan (wont ignite fumes), filters, dryer hose and Leds. Put the fan in the window, actually outside on grass. Bilge fan is great, its far away from booth(quiet) and moves ALOT of air. $25.00
A hundred bucks is not a bad investment for a booth like this! On the other hand you can get the waterfall booth that you've tested for a little over 200 bucks and it's much healthier and more spacious. I build a lot of 1/48th scale jet fighters and I need width and depth in a booth, that's why I built a booth myself, but I'm really tempted by one of the waterfall booths, I think they're excellent and the future. I wonder if a 1/48th scale F-14 or F-15 fits in one of them?
I have this booth, I like it for it's price no major complaints. I am replacing it with the new waterfall one, just waiting on Robot Kai to ship it out hopefully in March
Another fine review. I have a booth that I built years ago, had to replace my fan awhile back. This booth is cheaper than the fan I bought. I may order one as a backup if my fan goes out again. Toss the whole booth and switch to this. Might as well get it now, it ain't going to get cheaper.
I love your work in these videos. Your paint tests helped me select paints for my models and brought a lot of joy and satisfaction. This paint booth video and the aquarium filter media tip are entertaining, helpful and well made. Thank you.
Not living in the US. But I have a shipping address in Delaware ;) I have used this for many years as there are some companies that don't send to Europe or their shipping is way too high. For that box shipped by air from US to Norway would be 15-20$. Using Jetcarrier services. I do however understand that you're not going check with everyone. Have a good time painting! :)
I actually have this version but I think it was the older one without the light. And it was actually cheaper than this. Been a great little spraybooth. Super easy to maintain. Fan is still great in it. And thumbs up for the Carbon filter replacements, that is what I use in bulk as well.
As someone who is getting back into Gunpla and considering getting into airbrushing, this was a nice review and even though this spray booth got just a tiny bit more expensive it still seems like a good deal and in a good size too for my small apartment. Will be getting this soon.
Another great video, I have based on your advice a air booth, duse the job, even got base coating perfectly, all from watching how you air bush, love models, cars, planes, trains & warhammer 40k, I have the hard job of painting but worthwhile and I enjoy making and painting so relaxing, looking for a good chrome like green, and I'm starting painting again after 7years of not doing so, like riding a bike, got help from your videos, I have really enjoyed watching your videos on the different parts of air bushing. Using a cheap air bush while I'm still getting used to air bushing, the booth is similar to my single fan, making a fumes Box as live in a studio flat, I'm also in to 3D printing both resing & filament, have both to make models to paint, I love metallic green, but I'm looking at some you have shown in other videos, which works out the green metallic colour I good and works well with my necrons, amazing 👏🏼 videos you make
Yes shipping outside the the US is crazy. I run 3d printing business and had stop shipping outside US. Cost more to ship then what I charge for the product.
Nice review! Honestly, the Master Airbrush stuff is much better than it has any right to be at the price points they're charging. I got back into modeling during the pandemic and bought one of their Iwata HP-C knock offs for less than 30 bucks. The seals on the tips are a little finicky, but as long as I'm paying attention when doing a full tear down for cleaning or a needle/tip change, it works like a champ. I also picked up one of their compressors last fall and it has worked flawlessly so far. I'm definitely in need of a spray booth since I'm currently painting in the garage and when the Texas heat starts ramping up, I'm going to need to move it indoors. This looks like a great option.
I tested the booth away from a window so I use a bucket that I run the hose to. On the end of the hose is a filter pad. There's some water in the bucket too. There is vent holes drilled in the lid. I did a short video on my Patreon channel about it
I only use acrylic paints and primers such as Army Painter, Badger Stynylrez, etc. My painting area is in the basement with no easy access to outside venting. The windows are glass block. Can i just use a booth like this to start airbrushing without worrying about venting to outside?
just looked it up, i bought my version, slightly more expensive, back in 2018. modded mine to run a dryer hose to vent the off gasses out the back window, but its collapsible when i'm not using it.
Have you considered doing mini-courses on how to make the most out of your paints? I've got a personal project I'm working on and have been looking into trying to get the best mixture to reproduce a good, reflective gold and found your video's super informative. You've been the best resource I've seen. I'd love to pick your brain and really get into airbrushing projects.
Thanks for this! I was looking at this, but wasn't sure it would work for me, but you have shown for sure it will. Thanks a bunch (price went to $119, though lol.)
Great video ive been looking for something like this...would this work for regular canned spraypaint ? Just to paint little things ...or would i need a diff filter..?
Thank you for another great video! I watched this as soon as it dropped and just ordered mine today. Also got the 9 drawer Ivation dehydrator that you previously featured!
Great review as always , wonder if anyone has done a long term test of this one. Some of these compact booths have had lighting issues like the melting . Thanks
thank you for testing this out , i was wondering on its quality , i am recently getting back into using an airbrush but didn't have a compressor for it ,your video on the harbor freight one was pretty good not the cheap one but the next up one ,so I bought it the brush is good and i can use it with the 2 other airbrushes I have had 1 since 1990 and the newer one that came with the kit and another that was given to me from a friend
The problem I have with this is the the "connection" between the the plastic shielding at the metal body, it lets paint out if you are not careful/unaware. I had to place some cardboard on the side to catch any overspray.
I have a similar booth, all I did to modify was tape up the small gaps on the sides and seal the back hose mount to avoid air leaks. All in all, I am very pleased with the booth as I live in a very small apartment in Japan this is great size for me.
How loud do you find it? I'm also in a small space and don't want to bother my neighbors.

Imbed small magnets in corners. You can then use loose magnets to hold paper in position then pull out and throw away when too dirty!
My tip is if you leave it set up then some strips of painters tape over all the gaps in the booth to seal it better improves air flow at the face.

Thanks for the review. I have been wanting to get one and this looks good.
just looked it up, i bought my version, slightly more expensive, back in 2018. modded mine to run a dryer hose to vent the off gasses out the back window, but its collapsible when i'm not using it.
Was thinking about getting a booth and found your video. It was great, thanks for making it!
You got it Pete, great little booth here
Airbrushing indoors how do you clean the reservoir between color changes? I can't imagine doing it without a sink nearby
Sweet little booth! Wow, if you have a small hobby space, this is what you need.
I've learned more about air brush painting just today watching your videos! I never thought to use spoons to test. Thank you so much!
Great, thanks for the video, I was just on the market for a spray booth, now I know which one to get. Thanks again
Thanks for this! I was looking at this, but wasn't sure it would work for me, but you have shown for sure it will. Thanks a bunch (price went to $119, though lol.)
Do you think this would be able to handle priming with a rattle can of Tamiya primer? Or would that be too much?
Great video ive been looking for something like this...would this work for regular canned spraypaint ? Just to paint little things ...or would i need a diff filter..?
This was great. Gonna look for that booth now. Curious if there would be any leakage around those joins though.
Enjoyed review, wondering if the fan motors increased using the bucket rather than a window?
Thank you for another great video! I watched this as soon as it dropped and just ordered mine today. Also got the 9 drawer Ivation dehydrator that you previously featured!
In the uk the booth is priced at £225 on Amazon.
thanks for the vid. I'm gonna start painting minis.
This is great, I'm glad you posted this, I'm going ti buy one today 😅
I had a box set from the U.S two weeks ago, it only cost just over £10 to the u.k
I am only painting acrylic (warhammer). Do you need the outlet necessarily ? I don’t have a window in my room for the outlet.
Painting with a brush you don't need a mask but an airbrush sprays fine paint particles into the air and long term those are not good to breathe in.
You could use incense sticks for demonstrating airflow.
The problem I have with this is the the "connection" between the the plastic shielding at the metal body, it lets paint out if you are not careful/unaware. I had to place some cardboard on the side to catch any overspray.
I assume you could tape it up, no? Especially if you aren't constantly folding it back up.
@@hhaste yeah you can. This was a while ago, nowadays I just put an extra barrier up.
