    I examine the recent Elon Musk interview with Don Lemon, and attempt to use logic to show that to change the outcome the only possible way to do this is to change the standards. This is not an opinion.
    I also respond to David Pakman.

      Came here to say the same thing... there is a lot of illegal stuff that they were claiming isn't illegal and I wonder if they genuinely don't know or if they are trying to change the way we think about those things to make them more allowable. I'm glad Elon called his interviewer out on the CP comment.

      Not correct, spam can be done by people. As for Bots, algorithms that ban bots, hit people's accounts all the time. Doxing isn't illegal, it's not "stalking" to know someone's address, specially when that information is already publicly available
      I'm a Freedom of Speech absolutist, but your argument here doesn't make sense. All the 3 above are legal and allowed. The reason they are hunted down on platforms is because those need to be filtered for the platforms to be usable

    My work put me in the path a prominent professor of the University of Utah medical school, a respected medical school. She wrote the big final test that decided if students passed or failed the program. A few years ago they had a student who failed by a good margen 3 consecutive times but each time the faculty pushed for this girl to get another chance.... because she was a Native American female. There very few of that demographic in medical field according to this professor. The professor was asked to personally tutor this student and still the student failed the test. The student accused the professor of being racist by not tutoring her well enough and the professor got a bad write up and was thankful it didn't cost her her job. After the 3rd failure the faculty discussed if they should give her a 4th go. According to this professor the normal students never got anything like another try or special tutoring, you fail and you're out of luck. This was back in 2016, I can imagine what DEI is like now

      There are videos on YT of a former/now banned American College of Surgeons (I think that is the right name) member who got booted from the ACS for questioning the DEI movement and the lowering of standards. You can go find him rather than me provide details, but he said he would not allow himself or anyone he cared about be operated on by anyone under 40yo unless he knew the surgeons and/or their qualifications, or did serious research into the surgeon's credentials. He said the focus of the ACS has moved primarily to promote DEI concepts in healthcare and cares very little about its historical mission of educating and improving the abilities of its member doctors.

      @Danielle-zq7kb 3 місяці тому +3

      One test to pass or fail the entire medical school program? That doesn’t sound correct. Med students do take board exams, but they aren’t one professor writing them, these are licensing exams that foreign doctors need to take , as well as students in the US completing their studies. These exams are put together by committee and people can get tutoring.

It's simply dishonest. You can make an argument that moderation based off of our law's makes sense and that is a separate argument, but Elon marketing himself as free speech isn't honest. It also leaves out Elon's long history of censorship, including him firing Lemon just based off of that one interview. Which is ironic because now Warren is claiming to be fired for something similar.

    As a black African living in North America , coming from a place (South Africa), where from 1992 , affirmative action became a thing, from my experience, it never ends well or as intended.Whilst the intent was seemingly honourable, it was a colossal disaster. The general consensus on inequality was accepted across the political spectrum but how to achieve that desired balance was the challenge. Short cuts and quick fixes will only end up hurting the intended beneficiaries, (as it did in SA ) even more in the long run.

    • @Nylon_riot

      This is backed up by data. There was that horrible situation in Rawanda that we all know. Afterward, to remedy this, the government went colorblind. They said there are no more tribes. You are a Rwandan citizen, that is it. The fighting stopped. Not only that, their economy recovered, and they are now one of the more prosperous and safer countries.
      This happened in reverse on Sri Lanka. They were colorblind for 60 years, they enacted affirmative action, a civil war broke out, and their economy was decimated. You pit disparate groups against each other. You get a tyranny of the minority over the majority. It is just how human beings work. No one is immune to power grabs.
      People wonder why capitalists would implement socialism. You would think they would be against it because the ideology is anti-capitalist in nature. The reason is that if people are fighting for something they think they don't have, then they aren't asking for a raise. In short, divide and concur.
      Jeff Bezos figured out that this makes people less likely to unionize, and we know his anti-union stance. For example, if a woman thinks she is making less, she is going to spend her energy fighting others and the employer for equal pay. But if she knew she had parity, she would be fighting in the other direction to ask for a raise or benefits or unionizing with everyone else.
      Right now this is an employees economy. The Boomers are retiring, being such a large generation, retirement means they are taking a lot of spending power with the.. The next generation is Gen X, which is a very small generation because of Vietnam. When Gen X was born, there was the highest divorce rates, the oil embargoes, and the Great Inflation (everyone forgets that one), so women had to enter the workforce en masse. With Boomers retiring and a smaller generation incoming, this gives Gen X and Millenials all the negotiating power. This is why inflation is so high, and they can't bring it down. They can't materialize people. So this is their way of trying to take away that negotiating power by removing it with affirmative action because then people are too busy fighting for something they already have.
      There are more black Americans in the middle class than people think. The Anglos are middle class. There are 17 ethnic groups that make more than them. The highest earners in the country are Nigerian and Asians. So they are basically forcing the middle class to fight each other so they don't negotiate for higher salaries. It's sick.

      @@Nylon_riotYou've made some very good points until you reached your "diagnosis" for inflation which is a more technical issue.
      Inflation is predominantly present as a function of monetary manipulation (artificially very low - or even negative, in Europe for example - interest rates, printing money and issuing sovereign debt), the ESG guidelines (hindering CAPEX in the E&P sector and fossil fuels in general, for years), the pandemic policies (antidemocratic lockdowns, disrupting supply chains, mandating "vaccines" causing firing of personnel, etc) and wars (which could be avoided).
      All in all, it seems, that governments pulled all available levers to induce inflation and, in my opinion, that's not by mere chance.
      It is the only time in modern history that all governments share a huge sovereign debt problem. Guess what inflation does to sovereign debt: it destroys it (along with peoples' purchasing power - but that never stopped the statist criminals).

      I worked at a smaller late stage startup in Seattle that had this exact hiring policy. For each White Male applicant that a hiring manger wanted to interview they needed three viable 'diverse' candidates preferably BIPOC, or Female (particularly for engineering roles). A white male applicant could not be extended a job offer, no matter how good he was, until all three 'diverse' candidates were interviewed and the hiring team reviewed diverse candidates viability at the company and prioritized, in any way possible, hiring diverse candidates instead of the white male applicant.
      Part of the idea was that if there way any performance or skill gap between the white male applicant vs. diverse hire applicant that was due to systemic racism, in the case of BIPOC candidates, or patriarchal oppression, in the case of female candidates, and they were willing to hire a less skilled applicant, if diverse, any opportunity they could. Then the company had a policy to provide additional resources to diverse hires as a means to combat systemic racism and patriarchal oppression.
      Three things that resulted from this:
      1) We missed out on some great potential hires because of the bureaucracy, the discrimination, and timeline of this hiring mandate
      2) The additional resources allocated to this process directly impacted our ability to focus on our product and satisfy customers. We went from being innovative thought leaders in the space to barely talked about and laughed at by new experts in the field.
      3) The CEO and e-team got to talk and sound great about their focus on diversity and social justice. All the while the product suffered and we started bleeding customers. Many of the competent people remaining at the company jumped ship and the company bled cash until it was sold to a private equity firm. The executives still got rich off the sale but all the diverse hires were either laid off or stuck at a shitty job.
      I still remember being in a meeting with the VP of HR and her saying "we don't want to hire more white people" It literally sent a shiver up my spine and I found it surreal that company burnt itself down over the next few years. Compassion and good intentions are not what they appear folks, I promise you. The tokenization of diversity and hiring for ideological reasons, or to improve superficial optics, are far more racist and sexist than meritocracy. I apologize for the length of this, but it affected me in a profound way.

Of course there is clearly a difference between protecting the free speech of a person who perhaps angrily wrote "you're ugly" in a one off Tweet/X, is vastly different than someone who is repeatedly telling the same person "you're ugly" over and over, day on end.
    Even if you don't agree that either one should be removed from the platform, it still doesn't mean that a single instance of "hate speech" should be put in the same category as harassment in terms of Twitter's moderation policies.

      This is turning into a subculture of the conservative space, a form of circle for one set of ideas. Cult of personality.
      There is only agreement, in sheepish fashion.
      The DEI is true logically but we haven't seen any lowering of standards and no decline of services in the medical field or aviation. This is a scare tactic because in some fields merits can't be bought and sold. The counter to that is; everyone will not have access to the top surgeon or top pilot anyway. Like not all NBA teams will have access to LeBron James.
      And free speech is a myth. There are at least a few paradoxes in determining the Overton window, the paradox of tolerance and the Sorites paradox (grains of sand turns into a heap) meaning "who decides?".
      Even in the most humanitarian society, there needs to be some measures to take in order to hinder unwanted behavior.
      Logic is a good tool but it's not a silver bullet.

    Bots & spam cannot be allowed for very practical reasons. Eliminating bots is necessary because when approaching potential advertisers, it is essential to be able to disclose an accurate number of users on the platform. It is necessary to eliminate spam to enhance the user experience. Unchecked spam will make a platform unusable.

    • @newtonfirefly3584
      @newtonfirefly3584 Місяць тому

      False !!
      A. Bots are just programs; they exist within every platform by the platform along with users. Actually cannot be stopped, policed, prevented or necessarily detected. Their use has positive and negative affects, intents, purpose, results
      B. so called "SPAM" are just mass media, promotion, proliferation, or determined by a specific set of criteria -> also via program, automation, 'bot'
      C. Your claims about SPAM results are actually false, but allowing individual users to determine which to be personally blocked, is certainly the best; ie email accounts,Telegram
      Good Luck

    I haven't had an issue with Packman before, but his point here was stupid. Bots do not have free speech rights, so just remove that from the conversation right off the top. As to getting rid of spam, business has every right to keep that material off their platform. The ugly thing about free speech is that you're not always going to like what people say. It's important that they be allowed to say unlikeable things. The answer to such unlikable things is to post your own counter to it. Educate. Illuminate. Otherwise it's a slippery slope. I'm an atheist, and I certainly don't want some christian fundamentalist removing MY right to criticize the bible because they don't like what I have to say.
    As for doxing - Doxing is giving away someone else's private information. That is not yours to provide. That's basically identity theft, and that is illegal. You should be able to say whatever you want to say, but you can't give away other people's stuff, especially their personal information.

    Note, if you pay someone to recruit an additional 20 people and you tell them that they MUST get the result of 20 people to pass, they are highly motivated to trick or manipulate and defraud you. Their job doesn’t end when they bring 20 people to your front door, they have to get them to pass or their service is useless.

    The best way to illustrate this to most people is to use athletics. If the NFL decided they needed 10% Asian or Nordic or any other under represented ethnicity within their ranks, the ONLY way to achieve this would be to lower the standards. Even if they added another 30 teams so as to provide more roster spots so no current players would lose their jobs, the standards would have to be lowered. It’s not a difficult concept unless you’re blinded by ideology.

    • @newtonfirefly3584
      @newtonfirefly3584 Місяць тому

      Your example seems simple, but not necessarily correct, accurate.
      Any "sport", "athletics", can be developed within nearly all types of various people within the world; just finding those with the given attributes, aspects, for that specific athletics, sport, etc., then developing those to achieve their best and according to the desire, necessary level.
      Certainly, the incorrect, improper, misuse would be to change, lower the level, standard to promote any one individual or group as determined, desired, though those individuals do not meet, achieve the level with others, along with excluding other with equal or higher levels simply because those individuals to not fit into the desired group of individuals which has nothing to do with the athletics, sport, function, performance, etc.
      That process with preferences, is certainly called improper, invalid, discrimination, prejudice, bigotry, negative bias. Simple. Period.

    A simpler example was brought forward by Jordan Peterson: If 80% of applicants for being nurses are females, and you want 50% male female ratio, your pool of good nurse is going to be reduced on the male side, because less people are applying. Thus, if only 5% of each side are actually very competent people, you will run out of competent male nurses before females. So to keep the 50% ratio, you will be forced to employ less competent male people even if there are more competent people available on the female side.

      There are several flaws in this argument. It suggests that the applicant ratio remains static year-over-year, meaning that 80% of the applicants are always women. However, it would be more likely that the applicant pool shifts closer to 50/50 as the profession starts to be seen as equally viable for male applicants. This results in a net improvement as it brings in a previously untapped hiring pool. It also assumes that competency achievement only takes place pre-hiring. A well-run company will establish baseline training that ensures standards of competency for all employees.

    • @maxpelletier2237
      @maxpelletier2237 3 місяці тому +2

      @@wethridge There is also a flaw in your argument: It's not about accessibility. It's about interest. More women are interested in becomming nurses. Just like more men are interested to work in construction. Not saying "only" men or "only" women, but "more". Less woman are attracted to construction, less man are attracted to becomming nurse. Not everything is 50/50, and it's not because of incentive. More men are in IT, more men are gamers. Hell, Magic the gathering players are almost 100% men.

    • @C_R_O_M________
      @C_R_O_M________ 3 місяці тому

      @@wethridgelike the OP said, it's not a matter of viability but biological proclivity towards certain activities, occupations, hobbies, etc. These phenomena are persistent even in chimps and other big primates. Males and females differ and differ substantially (on average). Hence your basic assumption (which, I suspect, is based towards nurture vs nature) is flawed.
