Megadeth is my pick. When I first heard Wake up dead, that was my calling to megadeth. I've always liked the Megadeth's more raw sound and more raw approach to music.
The entire Rust in Peace is just a slap in the face. The first time I heard that album, I knew they were the number 1 thrash band. Every song is ridiculous. Everybody talks about Tornado of Souls, Hangar 18 or Holy Wars, which are amazing but what about Take no prisoners, Five magics, Lucretia? Wtf are these transitions? This album is perfection.
Those are all great but what about Rust in Peace Polaris, Dawn Patrol, and Poison Was The Cure? LOL every song on Rust in Piece is either great or a masterpiece :p
I've noticed that many musicians tend to prefer Megadeth over Metallica because their songwriting and compositions are more interesting. Whereas non-musicians prefer Metallica because they got simple but efficient tunes. It may not be 100% true but it often is
I'm a musician, and I prefer metallica. From a musical standpoint I would say that megadeth is more complicated, but metallica actually sounds better in my opinion, in terms of both production and songwriting
@@finnvanderbar3935 I’d have to agree, I can appreciate the complexity of Megadeth, but IMO they can get kinda formulaic, at least more formulaic than Metallica
If I wanna thrash around, have a good time, and forget about the world for a bit, Metallica. If I wanna remember why I love technical guitar work, mosh, and think about the world, Megadeth. If I wanna listen to metal, I'll listen to both of them, cause they're both great bands.
I used to love Metallica. Until I listened to more Megadeth and realised everything about them is more refined and sophisticated. It's like Metallica is a nice chocolate ice cream and Megadeth is like chocolate mint with some toppings on. Both great tho
James is a great rhythm guitarist. He can play anything Dave can write. Dave's lead on the other hand, I don't think James can play that. I mean megadeth riffs are hard but anyone who is somewhat technically proficient can learn them. James hetfield is a professional who's been doing this for decades.
Same here, I started playing guitar when I was 13 (I'm 15 now) and started getting into Metallica the same year, and then once I discovered Megadeth I didn't want to give them a try until sometime last year (2019) before the summer, I forced myself to get into Megadeth and boy did I fall in love with them quickly. Will never regret listening to them for the first time. Dave Mustaine is a walking inspiration.
Same but the opposite for me. As I get older Im starting to appreciate Metallica’s 90s stuff. When all I wanted to do was shred, Megadeth was way more impressive, but ive noticed Metallica is just stronger as a songwriting unit. Could be because more than one person is doing the writing. I dont think speed and technicality is everything like I used to.
Megadeth - The combination of Marty Friedman and Dave Mustaine's guitar playing is unparalleled. Both bands are monsters in their own right however, I think Megadeth edges them out.
@@GatesRapes 21? Like their age, or you meant 2021? Either way is stupid, lead guitarists don't care about top 10 lists, they're so many in the last 2 decades that outplay all 3 of them, lmfao...
More Technical doesnt = better for me. Metallica has such a solid sound, badass riffs, and vocals are much better. Megadeth is incredible though, and also has some of the best riffs.
I kinda feel the same way too. I started listening to Megadeth before Metallica, and I got into the early Metallica stuff because of the influence that Dave and Cliff had on it
You made a lot of good and thoughtful points looking at many different variables. Unfortunately your opinion is not the same as my own and so the only logical thing I can do is say you are wrong and that I am superior in every way.
Got Dave to think for the first album, major riffs on the second, and a body riff or two on the third. Wasnt until JFA that they went 100% original. Even that is disputed
@@burtknighten1873 he only has writing credits on half of KEA and that’s the extent of his contributions beyond a riff here and there. RTL sounds nothing like the first album (and the first megadeth record).
I agree with you except in one thing. In my Opinion, the most unique lead guitar playing in megadeth was Chris Poland. His jazz style and Unique tone is something that I have never seen it replicate. No diss on marty, he was an awesome player and he played one of the best solos (if not the best).
Yes I agree with the jazz style and that very nice tone. He was asked to record solos originally for some Rust In Peace demos. You can hear that distinct tone in the solo parts.
Marty was the lead guitar during the Golden years of metal and Megadeth was still a young and relevant band, he wrote some iconic songs/solos you can't really compare him to the others.
Agreed, Poland is incredibly underrated. Definitely the most unique imo. But Friedman is so good that he overshadows Poland unfortunately. My favorite lineup is still Gar/Poland/Dave/Dave.
Songwriting: Megadeth are clearly more technically outrageous in terms of speed, precision and they did have some unique, unorthodox song structures on their early albums (I'm thinking of stuff like "Looking Down The Cross", "Wake Up Dead", "Set The World On Fire", etc). However, the epic song compositions of Metallica's early albums are pretty well unbeatable. Songs like Ktulu, Master Of Puppets, Orion, ...And Justice for All, One, etc are like Beethoven with electric guitars. They combine strong, hooky, verse/chorus structures with the twists and turns and dynamic shifts of prog rock, with runtimes that are self-indulgent without ever feeling boring. They also incorporated more and better sounding acoustic guitar parts. Just listening to the difference between "Mechanix" and "The Four Horsemen" illustrates my point about Metallica's creative imagination when it came to song arranging. Edge: Metallica. Lead Guitar: While Megadeth had a handful of guitarists who are vastly more skilled than Kirk Hammett (and truly some of the best in the biz), Kirk - for all the shit he takes - wrote some truly memorable and melodic guitar solos in his prime that really stick in the mind of the listener. Songs within songs, if you will. At his best, I think he gave Mustaine a clear run for his money. None the less, Mustaine is no slouch by any means and one cannot listen to the likes of Chris Poland and Marty Friedman without conceding that Megadeth's emphasis on the art of guitar soloing and the skill with which they applied it gives them a clear edge in this category. Edge: Megadeth. Drumming: Let's just cut to the chase - Every drummer Megadeth has ever had is better than Lars. LOL. I am sorry to say it so bluntly as I am not a religious Lars basher (his drumming is adequate, even sometimes unique and his contributions to Metallica as an arranger are highly underrated) but he is still the Ringo Starr of Thrash Metal. Haha. Edge: Megadeth. Bass guitar: This is another no brainer. Cliff Burton's musical genius cannot be overstated and both Jason and Rob have been on the same level with Ellefson in terms of general skill in my opinion, so it's Metallica hands down. Edge: Metallica Riffs: Running out of steam at this point so I will just make it brief. Both Mustaine and Hetfield are riff monsters. Mustaine's emphasis seems to be more on twisting, serpentine riffs that incorporate cool scales and catchy melodies into them. Hetfield is more of a brutish powerhouse in the vein of Tony Iommi, who uses meat and potatoes power chords with subtle but interesting variations on them to deliver the Metals. Too many examples to name but both have consistently delivered some of the best riffs in the genre. Edge: Tie. Just my opinion, so no one shoot me! Clearly I am big fan of both bands and always will be.
dystopia was a catastrophe album. the worst of his career. sometimes, time has to pass, im sure he got one or two other trick to show the world eventually.
@@gurditt_singh hmmm not so sure about that like ... Burton would've probably been the greatest metal bassist of all time ... he's already top 10, maybe top 5 after only 3 studio albums
Die-hard Metallica fan and a very big fan of Megadeth too but it's great to see someone acknowledging Kiko, probably the best Metal guitarist rt now...
Funny part is I got into Megadeth because someone I knew was a diehard Metallica fan who always shat on Megadeth. I started to listen to it on my own and later thought, "Actually this is pretty damn good". Became a fan of both.
Most people are saying megadeth, but giving reason of technicallity while they know themselves that's not the actual reason they like megadeth, its the feeling and exposure to music that you get after listening megadeth , its an experience of music when one listens to megadeth
I know why I listen to Megadeth. I also know why I don’t listen to most new “rock”. The reason; Technical (to use your word). No one is going to say Marty Friedman isn’t “technical”. But I’ve never heard that term referring to Maroon 6, or Fallout Boy or any number of cookie cutter bands. So your 100% wrong saying people don't listen to Megadeth for the "technical" work. That's EXACTLY why I listen to them. But I'm not a dumb, precious, weak, confused child of today, looking for anything to be offended, either.
Metallica: has a lot more songs that people know and like in and outside of the metal community. They are even used in movies(zombie land 1&2 intro, Xmen apocalypse ect.). Also Stage presence definitely goes to Metallica. Megadeth: Amazing band. More technical song writing. Id say more consistent with their style of music. Definitely deserve their place in metal history. I will always pick Metallica. Their music has been so important to me since i was very young. I think their energy and passion are more intense. Ive seen them numerous times over the past 20 years and they have always kicked ass. The band just kicks ass so hard. I still listen to them everyday and get hyped.
Metallica I heard first and loved them. I then heard Megadeth and I lost my shit! Metallica is simpler(not in a bad way) which explains why they are more popular because people respond to nursery rhymes and memorable hooks that get stuck in your head. Megadeth is musicians music for people that respond to interesting and ever changing themes that challenge the mind. Both are great but Megadeth for me is greater.
I like Megadeth, but there songs feel like they're over complicated and I feel like I can't grip them like I do Metallica, besides, Metallica is just iconic
@Mr. MERCEDES 95 Are you actually saying that Metallica is not iconic? Now before I get into anything I need to say that I am not a Metallica fan. It just is a fact that Metallica is iconic. They are one of if not the most influential band to modern metal. Not to even talk about the amount of people they have inspired to start playing guitar. Sure you can hate on Lars and his Napster tantrum among other things but you cannot say that they aren't iconic.
Dave gave Metallica their sound. Him starting Megadeth has simply pushed them all to be better. Megadeth has been much more consistent over the years where Metallica tried to get radio friendly for a while and got away from there true sound. I will admit that I like James vocals better than Dave’s. But for shear ability Megadeth wins hands down
It somewhat depends on my mood, but overall Megadeth has been my choice the past few years at least. In terms of writing melodic choruses I love the Youthanasia album especially. But Shred! How can we forget Chris Poland and his wildly unique right hand technique, his hyper-precise bends, and those jazz-infused lead lines?
Poland was not great. Theyve had a few better guitarists. In fact one could say he was the worst of all of them including Kerry King. I credit Gars for the jazzyness of early Mega, particularly peace sells album.
About this question of Megadeth vs. Metallica, it's incredible that they came from the same source and were once united. They were a supergroup in reverse. Unreal! And despite this collective talent splitting up, they still hold the #1 and #2 spots in everyone's hearts. What talent! Also, you gotta hand it to D. Mustaine for coming back so strong despite the devastating setback his career had. Not sure if I could pick myself up like he did. I admire him for that.
Both are amazing bands but Dave was able to find such amazing lead guitarists who brought a lot of variety. And David ellefson is so damn amazing with his playing. And Nick and Gar are so phenomenol. Kiko is a metal God already. I like metallica too but Megadeth connects to me in a spiritual level. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
MEGADETH, ARE THE KINGS OF METAL, DON'T EVEN COMPARE THEM TO THE STILL DEVELOPING metalicaca, but their trying to run with the BIG DOG MEGADETH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It just has to be Megadeth, every beginner guitarist will learn some Metallica song but they cant learn any Megadeth song because they are just to technically proficient
@@Vic-f1t Check out the official vid for Peace Sells, I was that kid in the Slayer shirt telling dad "This IS the news!" (but I wore a MegaDeth shirt under my graduation cap & gown, lol)
I definitely prefer Megadeth. I used to prefer Metallica years ago, but then I started listening to Megadeth a lot more and realized that I really like them a whole lot better. I love Holy Wars, Hanger 18, A Tout Le Monde, Tornado of Souls, etc.. Just epic pieces, that for me eclipse anything by Metallica.
Grew up hardcore Metallica from their first album. Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning hit, and I loved every minute of it. Then they went down hill. Megadeth hit with Peace Sells, and, my favorite, Rust in Peace, and are still kicking. Megadeth all the way in my opinion.
right, not even the same ballpark. also just look at the last 15 years, what has metallica done that isnt humiliating and fucking hot garbage? megadeth on the other hand...though dave is crazy now sadly
@@miskatonicuniversityavclub202 I play guitar and I say Metallica in the 80's was better than Megadeth. Megadeth has amazing guitar work but holy fuck Daves lyrics are as cringy as his voice. Who cares if Metallicas stuff is simple, it still had impact and passion behind it. Sad but true is a simple ass song with a simple ass riff but its still heavy as hell. Creeping Death's main riff is literally one palm muted note and a power chord and yet its still brutal as hell. You cant tell me that being technical makes metal better when Metallica proved that simple songs can still be as heavy as technical ones.
This is difficult. When I listen to Metallica, I'm always transported back to when said song or album was released, and it gets my blood pumping. Megadeth does the same for me, but when I listen to them, the overarching theme in my head is, "do you f**king hear that?" It's like I'm in a candy store and I can't make up my mind because there's so much going on in the song. It might just be Megadeth for me. And as a bonus, Dave has made albums with some of the best musicians to ever pick up an instrument/sticks.
Although they are both "thrash", metallica really emphasizes on consistent use of a singular root chord or note, giving it more of a chug feeling or staccato onward. Megadeth uses way more more fills while maintaining that chug feeling and uses more technical scales... they are two different bands and I love both
I’m gonna be honest, megadeth shit is too hard for me sometimes, so i resorted to metallica, but then i realized some metallica songs, even though theyre somewhat easier than megadeth, really kick ass than the technical megadeth stuff. And to me by far, Fade to Black’s intro solo is one of the best solos ive listened to. (keeping it between these 2)
Fade to black main solo is literally just 7 8 9 frets and some 12 13 14 fret shit over and over again, melodically it's great, but tbh creativity is a lot less in that solo considering many kirk solos are better than it
If you've ever watched the interview uploaded in 2006 between Lars and Mustaine, you'd learn that Mustaine loved the rest of the group. He saw them as an extended family, but without a second chance he was removed from the band. He only ever had his mom and them. They got rid of him because he was an aggressive raging drunk, but instead of helping him they just got rid of him like a pest instead of a friend/brother. They had great chemistry, especially with the writing and shows during the early 80's. I don't like to compare the two because they're both equally as great. Before anyone makes the argument: "Well Mustaine broke dreams and kicked band members out also"... Remember, he gave them not only second chances, but MULTIPLE chances. He didn't want them to experience what he had experienced, but it got to a point where no matter the amount of chances they wouldn't change. To this day Mustaine has incredible skills while playing live. Not to discredit Lars' or Kirk's skills, over the years their skills have depreciated and created some infamous failures. Even as a band they experienced failures/quality drops later on due to this lack of practice and chemistry. (Good examples would be their albums St. Anger and Lulu). In most recent live shows where Metallica had invited people from Kill Em All such as Dave Mustaine, they had clicked with increased speed and excitement. The chemistry hadn't been better in years. So before anyone makes a "Metallica vs Megadeth" or "James vs Mustaine" or any comment that revolves around a half-assed opinion or comment around WHY things happened in the band and how people's personalities are, do your research you dumb fucks. Thank you.
What i hate is how basically EVERYONE and their dog knows about Metallica and one or more of their songs, but only metal fans in particular know anything about Megadeth. Hetfield's vocals are definitely more friendly to the masses, but i wish more people knew Megadeth
Wow another delusional comment with no evidence to back it up surprise surprise. Dave made less than half of the song on kill em all. And Metallica was created before Dave joined
While I agree with Megadeth's technical and compositional superiority, I choose old Metallica over them because Mustaine's vocals always sound like an angry muppet (to me.) I love when he shuts up and riffs, but when lyrics resume, the music dives (for me as a listener.) Next, Cliff Burton had some intangible greatness that made his era of Metallica legendary. (Rip, Cliff) Megadeth put out album after album in direct competition, and Metallica always out sold. Then they sold out... Then they actually made enough money to buy their souls back, and Hammet had enough cash left to buy The Peter Green/Gary Moore 59 Les Paul, (and that guitar is cooler than all the forefounders of thrash put together, imo) Megadeth can't claim many such impressive feats. ...still, if Mustaine beats cancer, I'll give Megadeth the win, cuz...shiz.
Song wise it's always Metallica for me, feels like I know em more than most people over the years. Songs like Fixxxer, Outlaw Torn, That Was Just Your Life are really fun to play for later Metallica songs.
Metallica for the riffs and Megadeth for their solos. Megadeth overall is more technical but both in no way are easy. Metallica has the ultra fast downpicking whereas Megadeth has many technical aspects. In the end I love both but if I had to pick one it would be Metallica
Megadeth for the win here, if you compare 1983 to 2013 area, for ex, youthanasia specially, what a bummer, you have to consider that Mustaine has wrote many on 1983 and the 1984 one. throw me some metal church or some testament, and I might still answer MEGADETH.
Love both. I lean more Megadeth as I got older, but the first album I ever bought with my own money was "And justice for all", so Metallica has a special place in my heart during my tween and teenage years.
namedropping neely and davie in this video made me think who do i prefer of the two? i think i need your shred wisdom in a comparison video in the style of this one! also, metallica, because of some of the same reasons you like megadeth, but on a more macro level - they've been adventurous, interesting and daring in their sound compositions through their eras! some good, some bad, but all their albums have a handful of very good songs, and that's good consistency! (not to mention their place in 035 eternity with the enter sandman riff..!~)
You literally started with my favourite song I knew subscribing your channel was a good idea Edit' wasn't the most popular Megadeth song called Holy Wars...? Or Symphony Of Destruction...? Edit 2: 5:46 EPICO Final edit: get ready for long speech... So, Metallica is more succesfull band than Megadeth, and their music brings more pleasure, that's sure. Their songs are catchy, melodic and cool, also James' vocals are beautiful. Complexity of their songs leaves several bands behind, and the fact that they are so long makes them really satysfying. Metallica's using multiple instruments, they even had an album with professional orchestra. Also, let's not forget about the memes ("the table", "crab", "wah-wah", "bad Lars", "alcoholica" and many others) and the entire impact they had on the culture. They made metal mainstream. They invented thrash as a genre. They are the most popular band on the world. They are the best pick for people with classic taste. Megadeth is lyrically better and their songs are much harder to play. Although Metallica's music is easier to listen, it's Megadeth music what deserves endless respect. Their fans usually admire their skills, not the joy the music brings. Megadeth is far more recognizable - Dave's religion issues, the story of his life, his incredible roasts, his red hair; Marty Friedman, one of the world's greatest virtuosos and composers, all that shit with changing lead guitarists with each album; David Ellefson, Mustaine's best friend and the man who literally pushed him to create Megadeth; Nick Menza, the great loss, amazingly tallented man who died too soon (Megadeth's version of Cliff Burton). Metallica members are iconic, but they are not as breathtaking and interesting as Megadeth ones (except Cliff, but he's dead for a long time (as well as the entire Met... Shhh, don't kill me)). In case of being fair, just check out the history of those bands. That's the most important (and actually the only one) thing, that makes it sure that Metallica will never be my favourite band of all time, although my taste can change. No matter how hard I try, I cannot forgive them for what they did. And I'm sorry, 'cause they are an awesome band and they don't deserve any hate. Now let's go personal. I prefer listening to Metallica, their songs are longer, simpler and prettier. I remember thinking about making change in my top list of bands. Nr 1 spot is taken by Scorpions, but I though about putting Metallica here along with them, as an equal. I didn't do that at least, but it doesn't matter. What matters is that I can't remove Scorpions song from my playlist - it just doesn't feel right. I have no problem with doing so with Metallica songs. However, when I tried to remove a Megadeth song from my playlist, I couldn't do that. So though about placing Megadeth at the 1 spot along with Scorpions has never crossed my mind, but their songs are as important to me as Scorpions songs. Literally the battle of heart and mind. The mind says "Metallica" and heart says "Megadeth". I remember a UA-cam series about bands' most often used words. For Metallica it was "death". For Megadeth it was "life". How true! I often let Metallica compositions kiss my ears to sleep, while Megadeth is a perfect alarm to wake up in the morning. Metallica music is freaking brilliant, flawless as if it was made by lifeless robots (or gods but whatever), while Megadeth music is so full of life and emotions! Apollo and Marsyas. Wich one is my favourite? Megadeth. I'm sure that Metallica music is better overall. But Megadeth gives me THAT feeling. And also Dave Mustaine. The man - the myth. He's my idol, my example, my master and the man, who made me pick up a guitar.
I used to prefer Metallica, but honestly now I’m a bigger fan of Megadeth. Once I finally got them, their extremely unique sound became addicting. Though Metallica is still awesome and has a special place in my heart for the H.P Lovecraft references.
Megadeth: One of the most jaw dropping bands ever, excellent musicians, killer riffs, absolute chaos, the most technical out the big four Metallica: One of the best bands ever, despite the genre, despite the style, despite whatever. The biggest rock band nowadays In my opinion, they are incomparable and two completely different beasts; megadeth is almost like a jazz band playing thrash metal, metallica are like the beatles of heavy music! Both are absolutely amazing... in my personal opinion, megadeth is the best thrash songwriting band out of the big 4, but metallica is the best songwriting band out of the 4, whether it is thrash metal, heavy metal, bluesy shit, ballads, whatever... Learn to love them both; no comparisons needed
I love them both but Metallica hits way too close to home to not be my favorite. Plus i think their riffs have a more thrash feel and i like their heavy signature guitar tones that i dont think anyone could pull of like they did. Also, Daves voice is kinda……….……yeah…
I started with METALLICA : kill'em all, ride the lightening, MOP, may be AJFA and I quit .... Then, I discovered MEGADETH which is more constant, with good lyrics, technical parts, so many riffs, licks and solos. So I vote for MEGADETH !
Many Thanks Shred ! I found your video pretty intrresting and funny. Always having a good time and many thinks to learn out of it. Shred, shred till you dead !
@@aussernllc they’re doing whatever feels good and sounds good to them, and the fact that they get hate and backlash because they don’t sound like they did in the 80s is ridiculous. Literally when he said Enter Sandaman is the most overplayed metal song of all time, I clicked on one of Davie504's vids that starts with him playing sandman on bass lmao
In my opinion that riff in the middle of Damage inc. is one of Metallicas not only best but also brutal. It has this crazy brutality to it like the blackened riff.
You threw in a PAGANS MIND RIFF! Subscribed! My all time favorite band! Love the videos and character play and theory analysis ! Keep up the good work man!
You gotta remember a lot of Dave Mustaine's guitar riffs and song writing bled all the way into Master Of Puppets. Of course Metallica gave no credit to Mustaine.
Not true. There's no proof of Mustaine writing anything other than the 4 songs on Kill 'Em All and one riff on Ride The Lightning. And he was credited on all of them.
@@johnp82 Actually yes there is. If you listen to some of the demo recordings of rough draft riffs you'll hear a riff that basically got turned into part of Leper Messiah, and even a little bit of To Live is To Die. It's pretty likely James recycled old riffs on accident and changed them up, so obviously why would Mustaine be credited?
I love both bands, but if I have to choose, I prefer Megadeth, Dave wrote amazing riffs (and some solo too) and his voice fits well with his songs, Marty's style blows my mind and Poland's too (his tone is even more unique IMO). Gar and Nick were amazing, Junior is a good bassist (nothing outstanding IMO, but I still like him) and the rest of member were at least good, but these are special to me.
In 1989 I would've had a tough call, but in 2021 I think Megadeth has more metal street cred, whereas Metallica has more mainstream appeal. I'm going with Megadeth for the same reason. Mustaine is the best songwriter of anyone in both bands, and that chip he's carried around on his shoulder has kept that Megadeth edge.
Megadeth for me as well Dave’s the reason I started playing guitar after listening to killing is my business and than Rust in Peace way back in high school 🤘
If i am at work on 3rd shift just me and 2 more people working far away from me, i listen to Metallica. I also listen that when i walk back from work or when going somewere that requires more than 30 minutes of walking and specially when i go fishing . Megadeth on the other hand is what i like at a party or at home playing videogames. I think both have their own niche so it's not a matter of comparing them as much as it is a matter of what kind of mindset they fit in as you go trough the day and have different thinks to do or think about. Both are awesome.
Shred has completely redefined the way I play guitar Working on an A Phrygian song that goes into E as the pedal tone in the verse, and then brightens up in the chorus with a Bb Major riff
Same here Maybe as a Thrash band I can count on and just have a good time, Metallica are always the bros, but in terms of songwriting, and blowing one's mind, Megadeth is just a whole other level. Also, in what comes to their newesr albums, Megadeth are still as good as you'd expect them to be. Conquer or Die is just so damn gorgeous, seriously it always feels like it's too short, what the hell Kiko?
I personally think Dave is the Mozart of Metal, , Song writing skills are well above anything Metallica have ever done, The man is a genius? Gimme Fuel , Gimme Fire ,Gimme ZABZABBA DA..???? Say's it all!
Not a genius, but a legend, sure ! And he wasn't afraid to play with best : Poland, Frieman, Kiko (I love Kirk, but ...and I don't want to talk about Ulrich drumming ..)

Megadeth all the way because they make the more technical and faster and better solos/rythymparts

Answer: Yes.
Right? I say be thankful for the fall out to begin with and Mustaine got to do his own thing!
Spot on.
clearly Metallica is better than Megadeth, and without a doubt Megadeth is better than Metallica
That was my first thought too
The answer is definitely slayer, no doubt
The entire Rust in Peace is just a slap in the face. The first time I heard that album, I knew they were the number 1 thrash band. Every song is ridiculous. Everybody talks about Tornado of Souls, Hangar 18 or Holy Wars, which are amazing but what about Take no prisoners, Five magics, Lucretia? Wtf are these transitions? This album is perfection.
So true.
Oh man everyone always forgets about those three
Correct and Five Magics is the best song in metal history imo
If Rust In Peace is perfection then Peace Sells and Killing Is My Business must be beyond perfect.

It’s true, I only recently got into music and ever since, Megadeth has been my go to band and Metallica just doesn’t feel the same lol

KIKO kicks them both ass
Marty was the lead guitar during the Golden years of metal and Megadeth was still a young and relevant band, he wrote some iconic songs/solos you can't really compare him to the others.
Agreed, Poland is incredibly underrated. Definitely the most unique imo. But Friedman is so good that he overshadows Poland unfortunately. My favorite lineup is still Gar/Poland/Dave/Dave.
@@andrade2129 English much?
Songwriting:
Megadeth are clearly more technically outrageous in terms of speed, precision and they did have some unique, unorthodox song structures on their early albums (I'm thinking of stuff like "Looking Down The Cross", "Wake Up Dead", "Set The World On Fire", etc).
Lead Guitar:
While Megadeth had a handful of guitarists who are vastly more skilled than Kirk Hammett (and truly some of the best in the biz), Kirk - for all the shit he takes - wrote some truly memorable and melodic guitar solos in his prime that really stick in the mind of the listener.
Drumming:
Let's just cut to the chase - Every drummer Megadeth has ever had is better than Lars.
Bass guitar:
This is another no brainer. Cliff Burton's musical genius cannot be overstated and both Jason and Rob have been on the same level with Ellefson in terms of general skill in my opinion, so it's Metallica hands down.
Edge: Metallica
Riffs:
Running out of steam at this point so I will just make it brief.
Megadeth is just boooooring as hell. Metallica are like magic!!!

More technical doesn't mean more enjoyable.
I like Megadeth by a nose. Reason. You hit the nail on the head, more interesting song writing and execution.
Thank you.
Metallica. Papa Hets riffs reign supreme.
What i hate is how basically EVERYONE and their dog knows about Metallica and one or more of their songs, but only metal fans in particular know anything about Megadeth. Hetfield's vocals are definitely more friendly to the masses, but i wish more people knew Megadeth
That's easy.most of the riffs were Dave's on kill em all, so in essence Dave made both bands .
Most? No, a few? Yes. Dave barely wrote any riffs and most of his solos were rewritten by Kirk, KEA was primarily James and Lars' genius.

Wow another delusional comment with no evidence to back it up surprise surprise.
Dave made less than half of the song on kill em all.
And Metallica was created before Dave joined
(plays bells’ bass solo on guitar) me: *so you have chosen... death*

Symphony was more widely played in mainstream, making it to radio play and kids birthday parties
@@THRASHMETALFUNRIFFS Yes, so we can argue about Holy Wars or Symphony, and Tornado was never their most popular song. Just the most popular solo
i think im in love with you.
@@exhumation.666 ^^
I used to prefer Metallica, but honestly now I’m a bigger fan of Megadeth. Once I finally got them, their extremely unique sound became addicting. Though Metallica is still awesome and has a special place in my heart for the H.P Lovecraft references.
It had writing contributions by Dave. It was his last project with Metallica.
The chunk on that "ahhh" at the beginning tells me you have a spectacular growl.
Megadeth: One of the most jaw dropping bands ever, excellent musicians, killer riffs, absolute chaos, the most technical out the big four
Metallica: One of the best bands ever, despite the genre, despite the style, despite whatever. The biggest rock band nowadays
In my opinion, they are incomparable and two completely different beasts; megadeth is almost like a jazz band playing thrash metal, metallica are like the beatles of heavy music!
I think this is simply the most sensible & intelligent comment I’ve seen, kudos for breaking it down!
I love them both but Metallica hits way too close to home to not be my favorite. Plus i think their riffs have a more thrash feel and i like their heavy signature guitar tones that i dont think anyone could pull of like they did. Also, Daves voice is kinda……….……yeah…
James Hetfield has been the riff-master in ONE of the greatest thrash bands of all time, Dave Mustaine’s been the riff-master in BOTH.
If Metallica continued the same disposition of the first four albums I would have picked them no question but in the thrash relm Megadeth wins
Metallica first four albums dominate metal. That formula could still work today. Don't know what the 🤬 metallica is doing now.
@@aussernllc they’re doing whatever feels good and sounds good to them, and the fact that they get hate and backlash because they don’t sound like they did in the 80s is ridiculous. I will admit that the stuff they put out in the 90s wasn’t their best material, but they still proved that they’re still one of the best heavy metal bands of all time.
Disappointed at the lack of drummer comparison
First time seeing this channel and the way you constructed this video was incredible new sub
Comparing Lars Vs Menza is not even fair 😂😂😂
My favorite is Metallica when they played Dave Mustains songs.
Kill'em all was one of the best Dave Mustain album 🤘🤘
jon stolpe true but he wrote like 3 songs on that album
jon stolpe dude not even half the album was Dave?
Don’t worry about it Okay? Lightning and ktulu arnt Dave’s work like a few riffs in the are.?
Um Okay? Yea he only has 6 writing credits and the only songs he wrote fully riff wise was phantom lord, jump and metal
I’d say Megadeth but I actually can’t come up with a reason why.
You gotta remember a lot of Dave Mustaine's guitar riffs and song writing bled all the way into Master Of Puppets. Of course Metallica gave no credit to Mustaine.
Yes.
But it might've happened vice versa too. Mustaine might've used ideas from Cliff, James, and even Lars.
So you’re saying that because I’m influenced by Dave mustaine ,when I make an album I have to have him as a songwriting credit.
@@johnp82 There's definitely proof. "Call of Ktulu" is all Mustaine. He even reused it for "Hangar 18."
I kinda cried a bit when you played the for whom the bell tolls intro on guitar 😢😢
Literally my two favorite bands
Shred has completely redefined the way I play guitar
Working on an A Phrygian song that goes into E as the pedal tone in the verse, and then brightens up in the chorus with a Bb Major riff
metallica is a great band
megadeth is great metal band
Well said
U cant say Metallica isnt Metal, Especially their first albums
Hafos have you ever heard of Blackend ?
@@blackened8250 All Justics is just fucking metal on his best
@@itais860 I think that meant that Metallica is great metal and more band. And Megadeth is just metal
Metallica is the reason people start listening to metal, megadeth is the reason people keep listening to metal
Facts. I still listen to both
I consider Megadeth,, better in all aspects.
Holy war riff is gonna be my ringtone forever
Same here
Maybe as a Thrash band I can count on and just have a good time, Metallica are always the bros, but in terms of songwriting, and blowing one's mind, Megadeth is just a whole other level. Also, in what comes to their newesr albums, Megadeth are still as good as you'd expect them to be. Conquer or Die is just so damn gorgeous, seriously it always feels like it's too short, what the hell Kiko?
5:40 thats illegal.
Megadeth's best "Thrash" stuff comes off of "So Far, So Good, So What" IMO. And off of "Killing".
I think Peace Sells was their Thrashiest point. Black Friday, The Conjuring, Wake Up Dead, Bad Omen.
@@madden7732 That's fair. Didn't mean to exclude Peace Sells! I hate just saying their "First 4 albums" but each one has lots of Thrash to offer. Right now I can't move away from So Far, So Good, So What! though. Set the World Afire, Mary Jane, 502, In My Darkest Hour, Liar, Hook In Mouth! Many of my favorite songs in one place! My buddies and I love shouting the lyrics to Hook In Mouth!
@@z-man.cometh yeah SFSGSW it's also a killer! Gotta love that album, a straight 10/10
Agreed
@@madden7732 and it gets shit on for some reason
Megadeth with Marty and Nick Menza. Metallica with Cliff Burton.
Those are my favorite lineups and can't decide between them.
until you remember that mustaine, burton and hetfield used to be in the same band. here's the greatest metal lineup ever if it werent for the drummer: ua-cam.com/video/ulXhyJagHXM/v-deo.html
Megadeth for me by far. And a huge reason IS the vocals. I can't stand Hetfield's "eee-YAH" and I love Mustaine's gritting his teeth high-pitched snarl. I've always preferred odd singers, like Ian Anderson and Billy Corgan. Way more interesting and emotive.
This is the only UA-cam channel that makes you laugh while learning
