Hi I painted water tanks mostly for twenty years and have been driving over ten now. I bought my own truck now and it needs painting your video made me think I can do it myself again. I think you done a great job I hope my old T2000 comes out looking nearly as good as yours
Wow, that old bulldog turned out beautiful! Great job! If that were my truck, I would then turn around and break the budget because I'd be tempted to hit the chrome shop and add some serious bling to her.
Just subscribed to your channel and I'm glad I did. You have a wealth of knowledge and I like that you explain what and why you're doing what you're doing. Learning alot. Keep it coming. I like learning how to do things myself or atleast understand how it's done.
This is why I am trying to build a shop in my back yard. To be able to paint my own truck and work on it in piece with out being bothered by the weather. Good job sir.
there was a lot of hours of prep on this paint job for sure im sure it would have cost a pretty penny at a body shop if they didn't cut a bunch of corners like was done when the hood was previously re-painted. glad you are enjoying the videos
WoW awesome job the first van i painted was way back in the early 80s and i did in a small garage at the back of my house and wait for it i used an electric spray gun load of thiners but it came out really good and did alot of cars vans then my life change and it was the end of that but yes you've done yourself proud just as good or if not better than a paint shop .
That Mack needed some love and you provided it. I like the fact that you lay out the process on how to do this just like your other videos. Very much appreciated.
Glad to see you working on the mack I've seen it and often wondered about it.love big red and that cat swap was a great choice.keep making your videos we love the top notch work you do and the time you take to explain what's your doing.keep it safe driver.🚛
That came out great! You have inspired me to try painting my car! Thanks for sharing. Just goes to show what determination and perseverance you can accomplish allot!
Ezrider92356 wasn’t sure if you used clear coat Imron over the base but it appears you did... very smart.. MACK looks awesome! BTW you have inspired me to make the time to get some of my projects done. Thank you very much for the video!
I love that paint its aircraft paint poly urethane. My peterbilt 379 I painted with it . Your going to love it when it gets dirty and all you have to do is shoot it with a hose and dry it off and it will glisten just like it was waxed. Great job boss
great job bud,i have both my classic fords to repaint and you have lifted my confidence 100%,i would reckon you are self taught and save yourself thousands of dollars each year, and i see no problems in maintaining your own truck(s) vehicles harming the economy.
That rig looks good for a NEW rig, much less one that's 19 years old! I'm impressed and you can also switch to painting trucks if hauling gets thin. A-PLUS!
You did an awesome job you are a hard worker and your work is awesome good for you that would take me weeks to do but I guess your working your truck so you can’t take your time but very good job especially not having a booth
glad you are enjoying the video's. i may ad some more lights later on but it certaily does light everything up at night esp hooked to the hopper witch has somewhere around 70 lights on it
You really did a good job I enjoy watching your videos I'm a diesel mechanic myself but never been a painter that's a good skill set to have. Keep up the good work man
glad you are enjoying. im not much of a painter myself just good enough to get by, somewhat true for mechanics as well. spraying the paint is the part that intimidates people the most but its actually the easiest part and only part of the process i find enjoyable. its everything that comes before that witch will make or brake a paint job. painting a few mailboxes can generally get someone past the intimidation of spraying paint.
Emron is good durable paint, I used it all the time, now it can't be bought in Canada. Centari paint was good too, a gallon of expoxy primer is $200 and change here in Canada. Big job for one guy to tackle u didn't outstanding job, ty for sharing
iv heard a lot of places are banning it due to not meeting voc requirments, first time iv used it myself on this project but i like it, id certainly use it again.
yeah imron you would probably be fine shooting over 320 dry its pretty thick sticky stuff. other automotive paints iv used 320 would probably have a pretty good chance of having some sanding scratches show threw. this was my first time ever using imron.
You can tell that isn't your first rodeo, looks great Imron it supposed to be a tough paint. That was an interesting version of "Green Onions" ( the first background music for the youngsters).
The version of green onions in this video was actually recorded by my dad using layered multi track recording so the entire song is actually only one person playing every part. I had forgotten I had used that song in this video. 👍
It looks great i do good paint on tractors and cars i wouldent want to paint a 57 chevy or lambergini for some one but you dont need a booth to do a good enough job for work vehicals
A show quality paint job your going to cut and buff with or without a booth. You would probably be surprised just how good of a paint job you could do in a garage or workshop. It's a little less work with a booth but not by a lot
Good one...I helped repaint a Merc bus and crash repair a few transit mini buses, after our day jobs for Johnny cash...we mixed paint, hardner, and tinners, to correct ratio but then mixed lacquer with mixed paint and applied ....I believe this is not the norm but it worked ....your truck looks good... probably took 50 hrs by your self...how's that 359...
thank you. iv never tryed that before sounds interesting. i seem to remember this taking somewhere around 50-60 hours. it was a solid week by the time the truck was all put back together. just brought the 359 home the day before i posted the video on it been out working this week ill start working on it this weekend.

greeting, sir I was watching u how to paint your truck. I enjoy it, but more I enjoying with your music ! if you don't mind can you tell me the name or title of the album please !thank you
first song is a cover version of green onions-booker t and the mg's recorded by my dad. 2nd is a cover of tom petty and the heatbrakers "i wont back down" also recorded by my dad.
thinking of doing this to my classic . how much paint , clear coat and other supplies did you get. how many coats were done in total. help would be appreciated.
About gallon + a quart both base and clear before being reduced. So probably about 2 gallons sprayable 2 med/wet coats both base and clear. The imron is a pretty high solids paint I would probably expect to use a bit more if you use more of a standard automotive paint.
I have so many questions, my truck is painted in that emron and the clear has broken to dust, what is your mix on the paint, how do I remove the aluminum bubbling,I've got seven million rivets do I hand sand those, did you use clear, you amaze me every time I see you, your a monstrous amount of information.
the bubbling is a aluminum oxide layer between the aluminum and the paint, you can sand it off till its pretty smooth there may be a little bit of worm holing in the aluminum that you can fill with a small bit of body filler if needed. if its to the point that the aluminum is paper thin the panel may need to be replaced. a truck with a lot of rivets id probably use Roloc Bristle Disc's on the rivets followed by a bit of hand work if needed. i used clear coat, single stage imron (no clear coat) is very common to be used on trucks, i prefer base clear's though both systems have there draw backs, but single stage with no clear does save some time and material costs. but clears tend to stay shinny longer where single stage tends to get a bit chaulky and loose its shine over the years. but clears can fail/lift and flake. imron in eaither single stage or base clear is a very good product though that will last a long time.
Great idea on the bristle disk,I run a kenworth t600 most of the truck is fiberglass so I need to do some fiberglass building under the hood it’s pretty rubbed thin, can I clear imron I wanna try to avoid orange peel if possible,I also need to do some severe rust abatement to the frame, love to hear your ideas on best ways to tackle this.thks for all you do for us,my hubby wants to buy you a beer,we’re in Florida hope we run across you
@@kristievanthul7086 yup you can can get imron in eaither single stage or base/clear getting the paint to lay flat has everything to do with gun settings and technique more than paint. your last coat has to lay even and wet. spray to dry or holding the gun too far away or improper pressure causes excessive orange peel. environmental conditions can be a factor as well heat/humidity. needs to have enough time to flatten out after it hits the panel before it starts to tack up. all paint jobs will still have some orange peel though. factory paint jobs have orange peel professional body men have orange peel. if you want paint to be dead flat when your done your going to have to have to wet sand and buff it when your done. but if you do a good job spraying the paint as flat as possible its a lot less work. if you plan to wet sand and buff defiantly use a clear coat its best not to wet sand and buff single stage.
