I worked at McDonald's for 13years and got to visit the Ronald McDonald home in Rochester Minnesota where I decided to start donating quilts and my goal was 100 quilts. I got to 80 and had to have surgeries for carotid arteries and ended up with a heart attack and stroke and lost the vision in my eye from blood clots. With the help of the videos I am back my sewing room and trying to sew again. I may not have perfect seams but its okay! And some beautiful women made the last 20 quilts to make my goal! I hope you all know how much you help people and the pre cut fabric takes a lot of pressure off my husband! My next goal is to visit your business! All my thanks to you and your family! How did I miss this tutorial! We received a pillow made from one of my father's shirts. To this day, it's been a source of comfort for my daughter and I. I recently saw a UA-cam video about burial quilts. It sounded morbid at first, but they were from a part of the country that people aren't usually buried in a casket. This man would make a quilt with the person's family members to wrap their loved one in, casket or not. He also made beautiful memory quilts, usually wall hangings, for the family. It turned out to be very comforting, just like our pillow. 😊❤
I made a pillow from my dads Pendleton with buttons on front and pockets. Gave it to my mom. My mom now lives with us she will be 90 this year she holds it and sleeps with it. She said it was the best present she ever received. The smile on her face was priceless😇 My husband retired in 94 and has about 70 ties now I'm going to make him a quilt. Thank you for that pattern. Lots of great ideas. I actually made a flannel rag quilt using a friend's deceased husband's flannel shirt along with complimentary flannel fabrics. She wanted a lap quilt she could snuggle with while drinking her morning coffee. She loved it. I felt honored that she asked me to make it for her.
I'm glad to see you do this simple way of making memory items. I have been using my husband's ties and shirts (and sometimes bit of his pants) for my own comfort- mostly doing paper piecing as I am using articles that he wrote as my paper. This is a quick and easy tutorial.

I use mens shirts to make quilts for the male residents of nursing homes, many are given to me by dear friends or I buy from op shops(I think you call them thrift shops). It's more difficult to find 'male' material especially for elderly gentlemen. I'd hate to think how many I've made, its's so wonderful to see the love & appreciation the quilts get. Many folks don't have very many loved ones or visitors & receiving a quilt is a reminder that someone cares. You taught me to quilt..... so thank you & please know how much your goodness is paid forward, this is my way of paying it forward. Thank you. Thank you Jenny. Watched right about midnight New Year 2018. Mom passed a few days after Valentines day 2017. I didn't know what to do with her clothes. Happy New Year!!🎆🎊!!!! My first quilt was a memory quilt of sorts. I made it for my friends daughter for her 2nd birthday. I made it from all of her receiving blankets and a few burp cloths and a couple of pieces pf new flannel too. She still sleeps with it.

Wow, what a wonderful video! I loved the runner with the ties. Unfortunately my Dad has been gone for many years and I no longer have any of his clothes, but my husband has an abundance of ties that he never wears, and the gears in my head are turning! Thanks for this unexpected little bonus!

I've made a cushion from a favourite shirt, I used the button front as the back of the cushion to allow the cushion pad to be put in or taken out to wash the cover. It works really well!

make sure you check the material of the tie. Polyester ties often melt under a hot iron which would be upsetting on multiple fronts. The tie blocks would make a nice border on a memory quilt if there is enough of them or maybe a center panel.
Happy New Year! I have made many quilts from tees, or from the clothes of departed loved one. Recently, I made a baby quilt (I have 15 great-nieces and -nephews) out of my old dress shirts. Your video was the first thing I watched--a great way to bring in the New Year!

I LOVE working with men's cotton shirts! I started using them for memory quilts, but now I haunt thrift stores - the XXXL shirts are usually the same size as the L and there's SEW much more fabric!

So many of us have quilts that we have inherited from our grandparents etc. And many times. They start to tear here and there and have other issues. Can you maybe do a video or a series of videos on how to repair old quilts? From repairing a tear to taking it apart and stabilizing it and outing it back together?
Will it make any difference if you put a stabilizer on all of the different fabrics? Some of the clothing is cotton but most is not so I’ve put stabilizer on the non cotton but thought I would use it on the cotton just for consistency. And what fabric do you use for the backing of the quilt?
I made my first quilts using clothing from my mother in law after she died. We were giving clothing to nursing homes, etc and I said to my sister in law that I should make a quilt from these clothes. She thought it was a good idea. I called a lady who I had met through my mother in law and she agreed to show me how. Since I have always sewn I had lots of fabric besides her clothes. I only had 7 shirts by the time I thought to do that. Anyway she got me started and I have never quit. I made to date approximately 10 quilts that have some of her clothing in. My kids each got a quilt no I did also using the nine patch block. I have made a log cabin, snowball, grandmas fan, etc. I still have a few blocks left. I had originally cut the clothes into 3 1/2 blocks so when I wanted to make the grandmas fan blocks I had to sew some together to make them big enough. I love the memory quilts. I have made small🤣☺️
Jenny, after my husband passed away, I made every grandchild a pillow from shirts. One special thing I added was a laminated picture of each child in the pocket for that child.

It has an 8 by 8 square of what appears to be 2.5" squares and then it has grey and white diamonds around the colored squares. Is there a tutorial on how to make that? A name of the quilt? I love the idea of the ties. My husband pastored a church for about 25 years so I have a ton of his ties. I couldn't quite bring myself to get rid of them. Would a quilt made like that work?

What if I wanted to make a tie together quilt so it can be passed on to family members. So that you can add on to it . Any ideas on how to do that?

An unrelated question I have is, where is the video on how to make the quilt in the background in the last picture at the end of this video? It has an 8 by 8 square of what appears to be 2.5" squares and then it has grey and white diamonds around the colored squares. Is there a tutorial on how to make that? A name of the quilt? It's also stunning! Thanks!
I love the idea of the ties. My husband pastored a church for about 25 years so I have a ton of his ties. I couldn't quite bring myself to get rid of them. Would a quilt made like that work?
