This tutorial is great because he supplies the example tracks as well, which ensures that everyone can follow this tutorial and match everything that he does. For absolute beginners this learning material is foundational. Something that might be super obvious to experts isn't necessarily known by everyone, like the counting of bars.
I did do some old school mixing on my mates vinyl decks in the 80's and have just bought my first digital DJ controller, Numark Mixtrack Pro2. Looking forward to getting stuck into a journey learning with your help at the ripe old age of 64. About time someone talked in lay mans terms.
This is hands down the best beginner dj video I've found on UA-cam!!! I've been watching so many for about a month now, and none broke down the basics like you did. I feel confident and excited going into practice, rather than overwhelmed and lost. Thank you so much!! Would love to see more from ya. -4our
I agree, this is bringing it back to basics. We all need to crawl before we can run. Look into Music Theory and also Song Structures. I found these very handy in understanding how music works and how songs are structured. And don't forget to Practice Practice Practice.

Yes! Yes! I’m getting it! I’m almost an old timer and just started doing this just for fun. I got into a bit of inexpensive gear and your video has really gotten me in my way! Wish I could have a video like this everyday to practice and advance my skills. Thanks!!
You explained this perfectly for me a total beginner and stranger to the equipment. Thank you I was able to mix my first song. The follow along download and count was exactly what I needed. Thanks again. (YES) for the part 2 💯
Yo! I appreciate what you said in the intro! often times we think we need the best and most expensive equipment to get started or be good at it but that isn't the case and this applies to so many situations in life. As a guitarist who wants to get into DJing I really want the least expensive way to get in so that I can experience and see if i really enjoy it or is it just another fad i have.
I think the thing is that the equipment is already at a high standard. Eg if you wanted to recommend an acoustic instrument, you may have a list of things to avoid when buying! Eg for flute, we have to buy or rent a 'student flute'. Not a flute from a music shop.... a flute from a flute shop. A guitar from a guitar shop...not a guitar from a generic music shop.
Thank you sooo much for this! Incredibly helpful- this video is one of the best I’ve seen hands down for learning how to dj. I’m buying my controller tomorrow and can’t wait to continue learning with you!
Question I was able to get the 1st side of the disc to work and play sound, but for some reason I can’t get any sound on my second 1, mad confused right now
This is really well done. The UI elements to circle things and such help a lot. The extra effort to include those is appreciated. Your general approach is great, man. 👍
I want to thank you for the help I have been doing a lot of looking on UA-cam too fix my audio so thx a lot you got yourself a subscriber can't wait too see more!!!
You are awsome bro. You make it so much better then anyone on youtube. Your baby steps us what I need. Please make a complete set of lessons in a same teaching pattern nice and slow using the entire same setup or same controller. I went and bought same controller with Dell laptop. What's your input on windows vs Mac? I really appreciate it. 🙏🏾
I would love additional tutorials since I am new to it and I have the DDJ-Rev1 I specifically would like help with simple scratch technique like transformer and where to get good samples like drum kit etc….
Great video my friend. Until now I use numark mixtrack platinum. But I want to buy a pioneer... This work with VIRTUAL Dj? Ddj flx4 work? Thank you in advance. Best regards
Thank you for this detailed tutorial!! Very helpful for a beginner like myself. Quick question about the numbers, is there an easier way to remember the order of how they go? When I get to the 3, 2, 3, 4 ... 4, 2, 3, 4 part, its a bit confusing.
Try saying the number patter when you're just chillin without music and get the rhythm of that count. I just watched another video and the dj did it differently but I followed this technique and i was in synch with the video. It's a tutorial from Laidback Luke
Hi CEE B Thanks so much for this great easy to understand toturial. I was searching all over UA-cam for this kind of info. What’s the reason behind the 2 x 4 count. When I play my sound effect during a mix it’s not loud enough even though the smaller volume is to the max
Great video👍Just wished you would've explained the reasons for turning the low eq knob each time because honestly I never really heard a difference in sound which was kind of confusing🤨
Thanks bro. Tbh I wanted to keep this nice and light not too much information. But if you thought that then maybe I need to improve on it in the next video. The low eq knob removes the drums and the bass of the track to allow the mix to sound a lot better when mixing the two tracks. Thanks for bringing this up. I’ll add this in in future videos. Thank you for watching
@@DJCEE_B I appreciate everything you're doing bro. Keep up the good work. You are doing us all a great service💯. I just ordered the Rev-1 by the way lol
The most luckiest thing I've always take it on the go that I have the most, Pioneer DDJ 400, HP 14 laptop, JBL Xtreme 2 and a pioneer DJ headphones. How lucky i am. 😎🔥🎉🎉🎉💯💯💯
This is amazingly covered and works for other controllers too by just philosophy. You cut out a lot of the fluff that other tutorials seem to bog down with and get the basics rolling for getting your first two songs mixed. Keep it up!
Hey Dj credit b could you do a video on mixing old tunes like four tops and supremes music like that is big here in the states they have hand dancing classes any info you could provide would be really helpful
Great video! I have the Rev 1 and want to know if you could/would do an extended tutorial on specifically the Rev 1 and all off its settings and features? Also, I have Serato DJ Pro. I'd like to know how to set different cue points on one individual track and loop those cue points, as well as learn all useful features of this controller. Thanks!
You're asking question about things that you can find on Serato support site...trial and error. This video is for complete newbies, introducing the 'concept'. As in people not knowing even what DJing is. For looping cues, you just need to try reading the instructions or look for another Pioneer product or from a video of another brand/controller using Serato. Once we can basically DJ, we need to teach ourselves. It's okay to seek help when we're stuck. Get stuck first. Then say "i tried this...then this...then that. This worked up until a point. Etc."
thanks for the video. i used to dj back in high school. i stop djing back in 2010. i have 3 kids now and wanted to goback djing just for my kids. my option is hercules djcontrol jogvision just because of the jogwheel it remind me of my old technic turntable. second one is the pioneer rev1 because of the battle style. just cant desides which one. i live in canada so the hercules is about 429 canadian pioneer rev1 is 379 canadian. need help. thanks in advance.
