I appreciate the support. As time has gone by I keep seeing issues with several controllers. I think due to “supply chain issues” (as they say) that Pioneer switched to easier to get inferior components. Seems to track with what most companies do when they want to please shareholders instead of consumers. Profits over people. Pioneer used to build to a standard first, now they build to a budget with built in planned obsolescence I’ve been seeing similar issues with InMusic newer products (Rane, Numark).
I hear ya. I felt the same when I got it and couldn’t find a detailed video of all it can do. So I did it. I’m grateful for the comment and the watch.. x4🙃
You only need to learn phrasing and beatmatching to start, mixing with faders first and then eq. You can gradually add fx and techniques from there. Always something new to learn. I’ve been at it for decades and this is a new piece of gear to me so here I am 😁

@djchance the beat jump feature is useful for exactly what you mentioned-setting hot cues. For example, you find the start of the chorus or vocals and you set beat jump to 8 or 16 bars and jump back to find the previous hot cues. This makes it easier to do on the fly and ensure your phrasing is correct for layering, transitioning with breaks, etc. (obviously you need a little more attention with live music)

i got this a little over a month ago and this was recommended, and I was thinking I surely know my controller. Why do i need a tutorial. Well I am happy I did watch, there was a lot i did not know about before this video lol
Great vid fam. I’ve been dj’n since March of this year using the small Numark Dj2Go controller. I’ve been dippin n dabbin on my new ReV1 for about a month now. And seeing these features was a great help💯💯
I am a new DJ and I just bought the Rev1. Thanks for the video I really learned a lot. I would love to talk to you see if I have my controller set up correctly.
I actually use the crap out of beat jump, but first a bit of context. I'm somewhat of an intermediate bedroom/hobbyist dj that's getting back into it on the rev1 after doing house parties for friends back in the day when the numark idj3 was new. These days I'm looking to spin niche stuff. Right now I'm really happy with a 4 beat/half bar beat jump. I'm still in the process of setting up my library, and i do a lot of prep work during actual practice. I'm a musician and to me it's kind like sight reading, like sight mixing maybe? I know preparation and familiarity with your tracks is most important, but I have way more fun preparing my music while actually recording myself practicing mixing basics. So for example, setting cues while I'm playing. Say I'm actively spinning an unprepared track and I hear a part I wanna have as a cue point. I'll beat jump backwards on beat and set the cue point on the 2nd go round. Its functional and it gives my mix a bit of a performance pad moment. Especially with the 4 beats/half bar setting it kinda mixes the bars together in an interesting way. This works for going back to a loop point that doesn't have a specific cue set to it too. I'm a pretty spontaneous mixer, but again i'm literally just in my bedroom so I feel like trying anything and everything. Another really important use to my style and the reason I chose 4 beat/half bar beat jump is beatmatching with songs that have an extra measure in their structure. say I'm beatmixing track 1's vocals/mids over track 2's drums/lows. However, track 1's song has an extra measure right before the drop. Instead of letting the song structures get out of sync by that measure I beat jump track 2 backwards to keep the song structures in sync. otherwise track 2 would hit it's drop while track 1's vocal was doing its extra measure. Last things that come to mind are when doing performance pad shenanigans with the 4 beat/half bar setting i can jump forwards and backwards to spice up a repetitive part of the track, or how it can help a lot in a live setting to cover up little beginner mistakes like not having a proper mix in for the current track's outro but also not having a proper cue point for the outro so I just beat jumped back a bunch to reach where a more prepared DJ would've had a cue. to me, beat jump is just a really flexible way to move around while still keeping the beat.
If any of that interests you, here's a shameless plug of me spinning underground hardcore for my discord friends ua-cam.com/video/W63cAlPdUk8/v-deo.html I'm not great but I'm having a blast learning
This was super helpful! I’ve been DJing for about a year and this taught me a lot of things I didn’t know about my board. I’m still having issues getting sound output for decks 3 and 4. Does anyone else have this issue?
If I could, I would 👍 this 100 times over. I sincerely hope Pioneer DJ has compensated you for your time and compensated well, good sir. I just discovered how to delete hot cues from the controller, a question which I had. Thank you again for all your effort into making these vids, mate. I truly believe, this may be the Ultimate Guide To The DDJ-REV1, bar none.
It means a lot to me to say that. Especially today being my birthday. I just wanted to help out anyone who’d need it and offer what I know. Pioneer didn’t pay me a thing. I don’t think the even know I exist. I buy my own pieces. It’s why I haven’t put out anything new in a long time. I can’t afford to buy piece after piece. This channel needs many more likes, subscribers ,shares to generate ad revenue or some “super thanks” patrons so I could get my hands on gear or sponsorships with some gear making companies. Thanks again for your support Dima.
@@idjchance Cheers, mate!! Happy birthday! Best wishes and to many more. It's a shame that bit about you not receiving any compensation for your time and expertise. I think they're missing out on an incredible marketing opportunity. Nevertheless, myself and thousands others really appreciate your attention to detail and the simple way of explaining each function or technique. You're a talented musician, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I play fairly developed progressive deep to straight up trance and techno but i like this layout of this controller. i like the size and the jogs seem a comfortable size and seems like the mixer area has enough room to not be cramped and the up fades are further apart.would used the pads for stems and loops. would be even dope to do a rotary knob fader mod to be a rotary mixer. only thing not ideal is how the eq knobs are far up from the level faders. with long fade mixes I like the EQ knobs close to or right next to the level faders for each channel like the 19inch rack mixer style or old pioneer 2 channel 300(?)
for controllers I like the pitch control to be put like this battle style. out of the way since its not so vital on controllers with sync and nudge buttons and jogs. they made the overall package so its not the kind that tries to impersonate a mixer and 2 decks but it is a controller being one single piece of gear that has functions that still allow a 2 decks and mixer style of spinning.
@@maccagee693 it’s just a basic fader. Same one they have been using since the first DDJ. The most advance I can do is a crab or flares. Autobahns, orbits and the like are way beyond my skill set so I don’t know how well it would do with those.
Just double checked Pri Yon Joni's vid cause surprisingly the manual literally calls them pattern 1,2,3 lmao. On the tracking scratch modes, the pads go 1: forward scratch/stab 2: reverse scratch/stab 3: baby + chirp combo 4: 2 click flare 5: crab scratch 6: military scratch Also as far as cheating with tracking mode goes, I'll be using the fact that when you touch the platter it jumps back to the beginning to cheat beat juggling. I'm very interested in it, but man spinning static jog wheels just doesn't seem like the way to go about it. maybe I'll stop cheating once i upgrade to a rev7 or some other motorized platter lol
Great tutorial, thanks heaps! My rev1 just arrived yesterday and am looking forward to putting it through its paces! It also occurred to me that the scratch speed buttons don't work for the basic scratches because they are only one click patterns... so in order to speed them up, one needs to speed up the "record" hand back and forth, not the fader clicks. Cheers again, and subbed! 🤟
Thanks for this awesome super detailed tutorial. I have ddj1000 (recordbox) and I want to buy this controller as a backup controller and fun. What is better choice: numark platinum fx or rev1? rev1 looks awesome. Thanks for answer.
The rev1 is a great option because of the layout and to me, it’s better looking but for the same money the Mixtrack platinum fx has a lot to love. The platter screens, the long pitch sliders. I did a video on the Numark here : ua-cam.com/video/jjj2H_3II0g/v-deo.html I find myself always grabbing the Rev1 though over all my others in this range.
I just bought a 4 deck Numark. I almost purchased this one. I literally need someone to come to my house and explain this board to me like I'm 5. I'm a former producer and the interface is pretty similar DAW software, but there are significant differences.
I just got my Rev 1 and I’m pretty new to all of this. I’ve been having an issue in which anytime I touch the turntable it auto cues for some reason. Even if the song is playing and I can’t seem to turn it off.
@@idjchance hey man, just wanted to let you know I've been playing around with this for about 3 hours (took some doing to get Windows 10 Pro onto a Chromebook 🙈, I've actually had the controller for a couple of weeks but didn't want to spend money on a new laptop). Got everything up and running this evening and I must say...I am extremely blown away by the responsiveness of the controller with the serato DJ Lite software. It's fun for a beginner or an old skool junglist like myself to just jump in and even mess around with the preloaded tracks and some of the looping and filters. Absolutely love it for the price, mate. Good on you for an honest review. Respect.

Great video! I just got the DDJ-REV1. I have it hooked up to my Mac and can hear sound through the laptop speakers. But no sound through headphones. I noticed you are using a splitter rca cable in the back of your rev 1 in the video . Is that going to one speaker monitor. Lastly the sides of the jog wheel when I turn they don’t do anything. The top part of wheel or platter when I touch works fine.

i got this a little over a month ago and this was recommended, and I was thinking I surely know my controller. Why do i need a tutorial. Well I am happy I did watch, there was a lot i did not know about before this video lol
That’s great to hear. Im grateful for the watch and the comment 😀
Great vid fam. I’ve been dj’n since March of this year using the small Numark Dj2Go controller. I’ve been dippin n dabbin on my new ReV1 for about a month now. And seeing these features was a great help💯💯
Happy I could help Brave. Thanks for the watch and for commenting.
Thank you soooo much for this awesome tutorial just got my Rev1 few days ago!
I’m happy to help. Hope you have a good time with it. I appreciate the watch and the comment it’s such a huge help to the channel.
I am a new DJ and I just bought the Rev1. Thanks for the video I really learned a lot. I would love to talk to you see if I have my controller set up correctly.
I’d be happy to help if I can. Much appreciation for the watch and comment. What do you need to know?
If any of that interests you, here's a shameless plug of me spinning underground hardcore for my discord friends ua-cam.com/video/W63cAlPdUk8/v-deo.html
I'm not great but I'm having a blast learning
Nice. Thanks for the info. Never thought of it since I use the hot cues.Ill have to try messing with it more
Its really a good tutorial, well explained. Keep up the good work man!!
Thanks Russkay. I’m happy to help.
This was super helpful! I’ve been DJing for about a year and this taught me a lot of things I didn’t know about my board. I’m still having issues getting sound output for decks 3 and 4. Does anyone else have this issue?
This was so helpful!! Thank you
I’m happy to help Abisola. I appreciate the comment and the watch.
OUTSTANDING review!
Thanks PC. I appreciate the watch and support.
Props on the details man. Thank you very much. I am going to get this gold version tomorrow :)
Thanks for the watch and the comment. Let me know how you like it
Very informative this video has taught me many things thanks
I appreciate the watch and comment Dan.
Great product unit review and tutorial. Looking to get a Pioneer Rev 1 Dj controller for my dj work in the near future.
Thanks for the watch and comment Jerome. It’s much appreciated. When you get one let me know if you have any questions or tips.
awesome i just got this today and have zero experience. great tutorial
Glad to hear Toa. Thanks for the vote of confidence and the watch.
Great vid. I just bought One for a flight out. Thx
Awesome. I’m Happy I could help Lonza. Enjoy and have a safe flight.
@@idjchance salute. Thank u
I love the video. Thank you
@@christopherreynos3469 Happy to help. Thanks for the watch and comment 👍
Great video! This has helped me out a ton!!
So happy to hear Farhod. I also appreciate you leaving a comment and for watching.
I just got the rev 1 but seeing this gold one is making me wanna return it and get the gold one
It’s what I did. It was too pretty
Whats the cross fader like on this, is it good enough for advanced scratches?
@@maccagee693 it’s just a basic fader. Same one they have been using since the first DDJ. The most advance I can do is a crab or flares. Autobahns, orbits and the like are way beyond my skill set so I don’t know how well it would do with those.
Thank you so much this was amazing ❤appreciate you 🎉
Glad I could help Soul. The comment and watch are much appreciated
It's just awesome
Just double checked Pri Yon Joni's vid cause surprisingly the manual literally calls them pattern 1,2,3 lmao. On the tracking scratch modes, the pads go
1: forward scratch/stab
2: reverse scratch/stab
3: baby + chirp combo
4: 2 click flare
5: crab scratch
6: military scratch
Also as far as cheating with tracking mode goes, I'll be using the fact that when you touch the platter it jumps back to the beginning to cheat beat juggling. I'm very interested in it, but man spinning static jog wheels just doesn't seem like the way to go about it. maybe I'll stop cheating once i upgrade to a rev7 or some other motorized platter lol
Dope intro
I appreciate the support TMB 👍
Pretty well explained 👍
Thank you Sharbel. The comment and the watch are much appreciated
Super Useful, thanks a lot!
Happy to help Arnaud. I appreciate the comment and the watch.
I did a video on the Numark here : ua-cam.com/video/jjj2H_3II0g/v-deo.html
I find myself always grabbing the Rev1 though over all my others in this range.
@@idjchance thanks and good luck!
Gracias por compartir!
Thanks for the watch and the comment.
Scratch bank u can drag a track over the pads an the track locks into the pads
Tnks you .good job
Appreciate the comment and the watch Sony.
Better half time than the Super Bowl 😂😂 hilarious but this was an extremely helpful video.
Hey Shawn thanks for the watch and comment. Happy I could help
I love this
I just bought a 4 deck Numark. I almost purchased this one. I literally need someone to come to my house and explain this board to me like I'm 5. I'm a former producer and the interface is pretty similar DAW software, but there are significant differences.
Hi Lindsay. Which Numark did you get?
Thanx for the info, your funny dude :) I'm a subscriber
Thanks for the comment and subscribing SC
I just got my Rev 1 and I’m pretty new to all of this. I’ve been having an issue in which anytime I touch the turntable it auto cues for some reason. Even if the song is playing and I can’t seem to turn it off.
Solid video, man. Got yourself a sub🙌
Thank you Dima. I appreciate the watch and sub.
@@idjchance I found a good deal on an open box. Gonna take like 2 weeks to get here but I've been down a serato rabbit hole for 2 days.
@@DeemMalicious it’s a fun little controller. Let me know if you have any questions. Maybe I’ll have an answer or maybe you can give me tips 🙃
@@idjchance last time I touched a platter it had direct drive and a vinyl record spinning on top. Weird, right? Haha
Respect.
Hello again, this video is so good👌👌
Thanks Dan. I appreciate the watch and comment 👍
@DJChance this video helped me so much when I first got this, and I'm enjoying them so much more thanks to this video I'm sure 👍👍

Thank you !!!
Yo! Thankyou! super thorough and helpful👌🏽
constructive critique for ya - the audio level of your voice is ducking a LOT! like there's a hard compressor and slow release on it or something. made me nauseous. Cheers!
GOD!!!My broo
Great video
Thanks! I Can’t appreciate the watch enough
Hey, don’t clown! I had turntables in my 20’s and these controllers scare the shit out of me, I’ll be honest. 😆
I’m glad I learned to beatmatch by ear but I’m so out of practice (20 yrs!) I feel a complete newb.
Thanks for the tute!
Hi Melissa. I still use my 1200s here’s and there. You can see them in other videos of mine on the channel. It was a learning curve when I started on the controllers in 2013 for sure. Thanks for the watch and commenting.
@@idjchance for sure! And I was watching someone spin vinyl last night and man was it seductive. It’s definitely making me sideeye my selling of the 1200’s back in 2005.
The top part of wheel or platter when I touch works fine.
suuuper helpful, thanks :)
Thanks Jup. I appreciate the comment and the watch.
