As a DJ, your job is to "Move the Crowd". If a sync button makes that easier, then use it. This isn't a dick measuring contest. You're here to inspire people to dance.
However, people are getting smarter even it's not their thing.. They know well if you're a good mixing dj or not.. They're entertained in you mixing even with mistakes, miss beat matching and they don't like you cheating on them using Sync. Some don't actually dance just because you're good at mixing, they're dancing because they having fun know their DJ actually mixing without using Sync and for people like me, I'm most interested when a person miss beat matching.. It takes you back when mixing is not simpler as can be during the 80s and 90s.
@@reyzuna I think you are over compensating for people in most clubs, who are most likely high/drunk and the only think they care about is if the music is moving them or not. But fair enough im sure there are people out there that do pay attention to the mix quality but mostly it will be people who are also into mixing themselves, so probably a small percentage.
My Hero.... I love your comment.... I sync if needed... I make sure I'm entertaining my crowd, that's first priority.. what's the point of being an excellent mixer with a wack selection... Rather have a dope selection and a wack mixing skill... And people will still enjoy.... Just entertain us.
This video is SUPER helpful! I've been inspired to DJ from watching a lot of streamers DJ and set a mood/vibe. You make look it so simple and fun compared to other channels that sound a little monotone or boring. I can feel your passion in the art. Thanks for making this video!
Thank you for the lesson! Some of us "boomers" who DJed in 1997-2004 miss the time before CD tables when everything was vinyl and turntables and there were no aids to beat match, no tempo tap, no bpm counter, just your ears. BUT I decided this year that I miss DJing enough to break down and buy digital DJ controllers, I also have my technics 1200 mkII attached so I can use vinyl too. It is amazing all the things that the new technology can do and the transition isn't that difficult. Most of us aren't pissed just nostalgic
It’s been over a year, but thank you so much for your videos. You literally have taught me my new favorite thing in the world and really got me through some hard times. Thank you for being such a great teacher and sharing your knowledge.
That's so awesome! Honestly, it really touches my heart to see comments like yours. I'm happy you found joy in DJing, and that you're really enthusiastic about it! 🤩
I’ve always loved EDM music and recently found my self air DJing all the time like a crackhead, just bought a controller and this tutorial is the best, thank you
I am an Old School DJ finally moving out of Analog to Digital. This was a create technical tutorial broken down good so that even an old dog can learn new tricks. Great Job keep it up!
I've always had an interest on learning how to DJ way back 2015 but I never had anyone teach me. Equipment that time was expensive as well, so I only used a keyboard and a cracked DJ software (Traktor) to practice basic intros and outros shown in the video. It was just a hobby of mine that time. A friend of mine said that for someone without an equipment, I was doing pretty good. But I had to stop since I thought I wouldn't be able to jumpstart that career. After watching your tutorial, it brought me back to those days and it inspired me to learn more about being a DJ. I might actually go back and invest in an equipment this time. I learned a lot with this video, and I'll be watching your other video tutorials. Thank you so much.
nice one, DJ'd a wedding on my ddj200 with a balanced usb mixer and a $50nz laptop(with ssd drive) was flawless minus the request harassment. not sure on my next controller, have seen the ddj-rb for $200nz, but am thinking might save and stick with the 200 for awhile, it does what I need it to do(after some extensive midi remaping)

Uy wow, sakto! Buti applicable pa rin itong 2020 guide for 2023 heheh, I'm looking forward to buying my first DJ Controller in the coming months which will be the DDJ 400. After watching you for more or less 6 years now, and as a Dance Music lover since 2008, I'm excited na. Kasi recently lang ako nagka-work and now lang ako nagkaroon ng super extra funds!!
I stopped mixing nearly 20 years and am thinking about starting again, you've inspired me! (midlife crisis maybe?) Anyway - a tip for any beginner/ first time user: Learn to mix by using the same track on both decks, 1 and 2. Once you can mix seamlessly anywhere on the track, it will be much easier to do with different tracks when beat matched.
@@djcarlo nice! 👍 Thanks for all your content! I have been binge watching all your vids on what controller to get. I used Numark Axis 4 back in the day. The equipment is so different now
In hotel quarantine with a recently purchased DDJ-200 (Returned to Canada from Australia). You sir, are the MAN! Appreciate you explaining everything in detail, the fun animations, and the free tracks!!!
if you have a FLX4, if you use the "smart fader" button it adds a nice reverb effect when moving the crossfader which is nice and adds some flare to a simple transition
Yes! But only one controller currently has a button for that. It's still important to learn the ins and outs of what makes a transition a good, working transition
This video is exactly what I was looking for. I haven't tried to DJ yet but always wondered what these DJ's were really doing with all those knobs and all. This explained it perfectly, you're awesome!

Yap....I bought it because I always need to prepare library and for the price it's OK but for real party in club it's terrible....bad sound, no output for booth....But that price makes it ok :D :D
I've been trying to learn djing through youtube videos before joining the academy but I never be able to learn it from youtube but your video really helped me with beat matching, I've watched so many videos before for beat matching but it never helped me. Thankyou :)
I'm an old school DJ who started back in the late 80s. I love all the new tech, I use Traktor Scratch Pro with Control Vinyl on my Tech 1200s which I bought back in 1990. I still do mixes and turntablism with vinyl along with using Traktor and some of it's bells and whistles. I don't harp on any DJ for using what's available. In fact, I'm in the process of upgrading my Rane 56 to a new Traktor or Serato mixer in order to use all the "tools" available within either of the software programs. All I will say is, if you have a chance to "sharpen" your DJ skills by using real turntables, tonearms and cartridges, with either vinyl or control vinyl, you'll develop a better touch and overall control and understanding of the art. The best DJs I know are ones who mastered the art back in the day and then stepped forward and adopted the new tech and expanded their skill set with what's available today. The best part of Digital or Virtual DJ'ing today... Not having to haul 25 crates of vinyl to a gig... LOL... Had Traktor or Serato been around back in the early 90s, I would have used it and been a very very happy DJ not having to deal with the logistics of toting all that crap, lol. Keep the music going, the dance floor shall never die!!!
100% agree Eric! The convenience of modern technology is truly something else. In fact, I used to only have a pair of used 1200s when I started, but I really embraced the wonders digital mixers had to offer
@@djcarlo You got it! All the sounds and ideas myself and other DJs had back in the day are now possible due to new tech. What use to be an ordeal and massive planning to do a wild remix can now be done on the fly with the new stuff. Queue points, loops, effects, cut ins with samples, etc., it's amazing what you can do with a push of a button or twist of a knob now compared to burning through 6, 7, 8 or even more pieces of vinyl to get the same effect and end results.
Sir thank you, in those difficult time, I was a DJ in the 80', I am now 54 but... I still got it in me. Just bought a used Numark PRO 3 for 120$, I know it's probably not the best but I have having a blast since 3 days. I took me a good... 15 minute to get back into it, not that bad... I just loved that video, maybe some youngster that think they don't have it will try. To day trying is cheap compare to when I was 20... ha ha ha. Thanks again sir Ho, I have to say that, in those time, in the 80', the price of one record was the price of a full month subscription anywhere now... dig that.

WHAT A LEGEND... that was 1. actually for beginners, 2. well animated, labeled, and explained, and 3. actually gave good advice on gear. QUESTION: I'm a studio dancer who loves hiphop and urban dance. What advice do you have for someone like me? Do dancers or musicians have an easier time picking things up? Thank you!
I would actually say so William! Since you've got the rhythm already, it'll be easier for you to move and groove with the music, and you've also got your counting down. Both are necessary for me for DJing because you'll be able to flow with the music better. And thank you for the kind words on the video!

Thank you for making this and offering the free tracks to practice. Now I know why they call it a controller; feels like your playing a video game. Hitting the buttons, sliders and knobs all at the right time while looking at the screen and hearing the beat. You dumbed it down but that's how you learn! It's fun! Thanks!🎼
Indeed! Actually, the best tutorials dumb things down so that everyone can grasp the lesson! Getting too advanced and too technical usually knocks me out haha
11:00 -- Hi Carlo, please will you give more detail in to the counting there, because we see 1,2,3,4 but its not clear where u count from on the fading out track, i see 32 beats on the scree there but it counts up, im just curious as to understand this better. Thank you

Before that I was only watching your reviews , Thanks for your great explanation. You are very Talented!
Really great tutorial, thanks. One question though, I’m very new to this, self taught during lockdown 😂 for the most part I’ve nailed the basics but I have this one frustration that I’m hoping you have an answer. When I beat match via sync, I sometimes find the tracks to be slightly off beat and that’s when most DJ’s make use of the jog wheel turning “left or right” to get this perfectly in sync. But what if, as in my case, one is not using a DJ controller i.e. no physical deck and no jog wheels - only making use of a laptop (MacBook) and DJay Pro software, how do I get around this with the keyboard/shortcut keys? Currently my solution to this is prepping each song by editing the grid start of the downbeat (this works) but I find this method not to be the most efficient way when needing to do so on the fly during a mix practice session.
Hello there, Van Wilder! Thanks for watching! The best method is to properly beat grid your songs. You can check the video here on my channel on how to prepare your songs.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR EFFORT DJ CARLOOOO, I'VE SEEN YOUR INSTAGRAM STORIES BTW HAHAHAHA THAAANK YOU SO MUCH. BUT PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODY ALSO

However i must say it helps you grow as dj to learn align by ear ,and also to get the bpm right by ear as software is not 100% always
Thanks, man! That means a lot. Thanks for making my day :)
Thanks for sharing your insights and your experience too! I appreciate this! Cheers!

I am an Old School DJ finally moving out of Analog to Digital. This was a create technical tutorial broken down good so that even an old dog can learn new tricks. Great Job keep it up!
Thanks buddy! I really put this video out to help everyone get into the DJ game, or at least re adjust to digital stuff. Glad it was of help!
I'm glad the video did that for you Ayaken! Really hope the second winds leads to something for you in the DJing world!

Yup! 100% applicable pa rin, with all the lessons you need. Interfaces may have changed slightly, but they should all still be good to go!
I stopped mixing nearly 20 years and am thinking about starting again, you've inspired me! (midlife crisis maybe?)
Anyway - a tip for any beginner/ first time user:
Learn to mix by using the same track on both decks, 1 and 2. Once you can mix seamlessly anywhere on the track, it will be much easier to do with different tracks when beat matched.
Oh that's great advice! I'm gonna consider parroting that in future replied for beginners

if you have a FLX4, if you use the "smart fader" button it adds a nice reverb effect when moving the crossfader which is nice and adds some flare to a simple transition

Awwww! Thanks for the kind words! I’m filled with gladness! I reached my goal!
The blue lightning and texture of the wall behind really makes me feel comfortable, great choice!
Thanks Pablo! I wanted to choose the most inviting setting for my videos :)
To day trying is cheap compare to when I was 20... ha ha ha. Thanks again sir Ho, I have to say that, in those time, in the 80', the price of one record was the price of a full month subscription anywhere now... dig that.
Thanks for sharing your experience! Respect!

You're very welcome bud! I'm glad you got back into the groove of things, and I hope you get the best out of your Mixtrack!
