I’m almost positive that Jake was the patient with the badly bruised face. He acted differently and had a slight NY accent. Plus Marc and Steven were in the hallway with the hippo. We’ve been seeing glimpses of Jake throughout the series, but we’ve thought it was always Marc. Isaac’s acting is award worthy. Amazing.
I just realized they gave us some clues about what they’re doing… Jake is in the background, in plain sight… just like the taxi cabs are in the background. Dang. These people are soooo good at cinematic storytelling. Best MCU I’ve seen so far.

100%. I also think that when they are showing that alter that we think is Jake be tranquilized, it's a visual representation of what Marc has been doing for a long time. Suppressing him in his sub conscious. I don't even think Marc was aware of him until he stabbed that guy. Frankly, I'm not surprised he's afraid to let Jake out. He seems kind of unhinged and murderous. Jake only seems to come out when Marc is in mortal danger. I think Jake might be key to saving Marc and Steven though, with the help of Taweret and maybe Layla. We'll see. I can't wait until next week.

@@OddWomanOut_Pi81 Yeah, that's a great theory. I had a thought that maybe Jake was created as a result of either the massacre at Konshu's tomb where he almost died, or general trauma from killing all those people for Konshu. Much like Steven was created as a safe space for Marc, I think Jake was created to protect him from dying, maybe tapping into that rage you are speaking about. It's all pretty fascinating. I'm stoked to see where it goes.

I always had this mental image of Marc and Steven being brothers. Back in the first episode when the monster was banging on the door and Steven was rambling, I noticed how Marc had a brotherly attitude to Steven's mental freakout. He never snapped at Steven, he never yelled to get his attention, he just kept his voice low and stayed in this kind voice. It was then I figured that they had to be in a loving familial relationship rather than a combative "we are two souls in one body" relationship.

Late reply but I just got a notification from this comment and got reminded of something.
well we know now thanks to one of the producers that the scales balanced because *Steven* accepted who he was and his role as Marc's protector. They balanced because he sacrificed himself for him. So they did have good timing. And I was close, thus was one of the possibilities I had in mind when it first happened.
I like how everyone was so focused on Marc in this episode because we were visiting his memories but it was still all about Steven's story-arc ans character development.

I’ve only encountered someone with DID once. It was clear the person had it. They came into my job, provided ID, we gave them the information they needed. A few hours later they returned and based off the information they gave us about their life it was obvious that THIS person currently speaking to us was an alter. The physical body was a 28 year old man, however the alter was telling us about his life in the 1950’s. The mannerisms were different and demeanor obviously of someone older.
In the present time we honestly didn’t know what was happening but we listened, treated him with respect, and answered any questions he had. He wanted to know how to get his records from his time there in 1950’s. My coworker told him he just needed to provide documentation and we’d get his records. He said thank you and was satisfied with the provided information. It wasn’t until after he left and was able to really process what happened we realized it was DID.
They really are separate people and I hope people watching Moon Knight at the least can realize and treat them as separate people if they were to ever encounter someone with DID.

This show is phenomenal!

Man, this episode was hard to watch but it was masterfully done. I connected with this character more deeply than any superhero character before.
While I don't have DID, I do have a dissociative disorder spawning from severe emotional and verbal abuse when I was in middle and high-school. It was really impactful for me to see a character who went through something similar and have them be sympathetic, and even a hero. Showing how the Moon Knight system was able to grow and become something great through the shadow of their trauma meant a lot to me.

I think there is a really dramatic parallel between Leyla blaming Marc for the death of her father and his mother blaming him for the death of his brother. We just learned how he must have felt after Leyla confronted him. Must have been pretty tough for Marc.
Also I think he‘ll 100% gonna try to rescue Steven, because it‘s another traumatic parallel. As we‘ve seen in the flashback he tried to embrace his brother to not be a cry baby and do some dangerous stuff which ultimately killed him. That‘s pretty much what Marc did with Steven by telling him to be more like a man. This was the first time he was brave enough to do that and it killed him. So by saving him he may have some redemption for losing his brother.

So mark at her Shiva taking that off and try to destory it, for him to almost instantly dust it off and apologise several times have be symbolizm of mark being angry at this mother specificly

  • @rayray9865
    @rayray9865 2 роки тому +35

If my theory is correct we could be seeing the 3 representations/outcomes of trauma for a kid that lived in an abusive environment
    1. Steven is meant to symbolize the happy place that some people develop due to trauma as it was stated and we visually saw in this episode. Or people who fight through the trauma to become something better as we see Steven having a love for Egyptian history and wanting to do more.
2.marc is a representation of running away when things get messy because you're not willing/knowing how to deal with problems, as we seen Marc running away from his problems with Layla and his past.
    3. Jake represents the people who become violent/ aggressive/ secluded due to past trauma who turn to violence as a means a fixing things. but alot of the time these people become desensitized to the fact that they're doing these things that they see it as normal/ defense mechanism due to growing up in an environment full of anger violence and abuse. As we have seen that when neither Steven nor marc are in control a lot of violence happens. And a lot of the times these people become the abuser
I also believe we have been seeing Jake the entire time when we hear a different accent coming from Marc and every time Mar or Steven come to it there's always blood on their face ,due to the chaos that just happened meaning that Jake took full control. And the reason we don't see a full transformation from jake and we just see Marc. is because remember what I said a lot of these people that become aggressive/ secluded see it as normal thing and that there's nothing wrong. that's why we get these subtle hints with Jake's voice and not a full persona incontrol like Steven That's why Mark himself doesn't even notice/ remember the change in his voice and the brutality Jake just handed out.

LOL, Harrow's gonna regret saying that. And no, I don't think that's going to bring Steven back. I know ppl r in denial, but we won't be seeing him again. Marc'll most likely integrate some of his habits but that's it.

    • @zacharyjackson1829

@@rebelfighter5249 the reason people believe steven will come back is because he is INGRAINED into the very fabric of the character.
that's like trying to have a batman that never lost his parents or a spiderman that was just born with his powers. it's just a huge part of the character so them taking away steven forever would be a huge twist that would ruin the character honestly

I'm glad Marvel changed the origin story from the comics so it more accurately reflects what can happen to cause a person to develop DID. Oscar Issac has been extraordinary in this role.
Also, the Disney+ MCU shows have shown a through line of mental health themes. I hope at some point Feige et al. talks about this, as a way of encouraging ongoing conversation about mental health care.

They threaded his through line very well- like how they kept demonstrating his trauma was written really well. How in the last episode Layla blamed him for her fathers death and rejected him, then you see how his mother blamed him for his brothers death and disowned and hated him, then Steven tells Marc if he doesn’t confront his memories everyone will die and it’ll be all his fault. He has been told his whole life that everything he is and everything he does is wrong. Your brain and body has to go to extreme methods to survive that kind of pain and trauma

My favorite thing about this show is all the character work for Steven and Marc. How Marc's DID is such an important part of the story. They easily could have focused on the action and Moon Knight looking dope AF when he's in costume but instead the character work is front and center. And I love it so much. Especially because Oscar Isaac is absolutely slaying these roles. I've definitely become a fan of him because of this show. I truly hope Moon Knight/Steven/Marc will stick around and show up in other project. I'd gladly take a season 2 of Moon Knight but my gut tells me there is not going to be a season 2.

I am thoroughly convinced that Marc created Stephen not only to have someone who has a better childhood and overall life, but also as a little brother to protect; give him a purpose to get him through day to day trauma.
As an example, I was always told with depression and with stress to get a pet of some kind. Something that you are responsible for that requires you to get up every day to take care of. It was something recommended to vet and med school students in my college as a way to keep you mentally healthy enough and force you to "go outside" for lack of a better term.
