The Chapman Stick usually comes in 10- and 12-string models, Tony always plays a 12-string one. There are 6 bass strings and 6 guitar strings in it, with the lower strings from both sides being centralised, while the higher strings are on the edges of the instrument. The tunings are different from regular guitar/bass as well. For his work as a bassist, Tony mostly focuses on the bass side of the Stick, but he plays the guitar side in several songs from his solo work (Stick Men). He's one of the precursors of the instrument, and probably the most notable one to play it. You can hear more from him in one of the several projects he's played on. Notably: King Crimson, John Lennon, Peter Gabriel, Anderson Brufford Wakeman Howe, David Bowie, Steven Wilson... If you dig LTE, though, I'd recommend checking out his work with Bozzio Levin Stevens, which was the first supergroup formed by Magna Carta Records in the late '90s (LTE coming a little afterwards), they're also a full instrumental band. And he collaborated with Rudess in another project called Levin Minnemann Rudess (also full instrumental with German drummer Marco Minnemann). Worth mentioning: JP and JR always improvise their solos while playing this particular track live, contrary to most of their work with both DT and LTE, where they usually play pre-written solos. And they usually play much longer versions, as well, so they signal to the band when they're about to finish the solos, so everyone can go correctly to the next section of the track.
As with Dream Theater, John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess often play unisons during solos, meaning they are mirroring each others' parts. It gives a fullness to the music that is often not understood, because people think it's either a guitar OR a keyboard, they don't think of the two playing in total sync. It's all amazing, that they can pull this stuff off live.
Jordan recently said that "it looks really good" that LTE will be getting back together! What they did with their earlier projects was amazing and has aged so well. This song, Biaxident, When the Water Breaks, and even more mellow songs like State of Grace are instrumental classics!
LTE is where Petrucci and Rudess really get to cut loose. DT just holds them back... Myung plays one of those weird basses on New Millennium, there are some live versions out there.
Wow I like the way they're playing on guitars and epic keyboard playing too especially the drums. I'm not so sure but it almost feels like I listen to Djent Metal or something. Anyway great performance I watch to John Petrucci and his band and good reaction by the way. Good morning. :)
Hi John! Love your channel! Great reaction here! Liquid Tension Experiment is fantastic! I was watching your Red Barchetta, reaction from a year ago, earlier and I was wanting to know if you could do a Rush month again?
Hey Ben,thank you and glad you enjoyed this video as well as my Rush reaction :) I don't i'll be doing a whole month focused on just one specific band again. There is a lot of music and things to discover out there :) But i'm definetly open to a one-off video for Rush again :)
Tony Levin is playing a Chapman Stick. They are amazing, when people are masters with them.
Just placed an order for one yesterday.
That look on Tony Levins face when he looks at Jordan as John is going off on his solo!!😁 Priceless!!🤘🤘🤘
Also, you have to react to Liquid Tension Experiment - When the Water Breaks... Petrucci goes god mode in that as well.
He just can't help himself,can he? :)
JohnG. Reacts - no he can’t! Hahaha. But Portnoy goes god mode in that one as well. 😎🤘
Portnoy really shined on that piece as well
@@JohnG_YT please do that one please bro
And just for your information, this is the opening song for a 2 hours show.. they're already played 2 Billion notes with just this song
You’re reaction to Petrucci going into god mode was priceless .. LTE3 has been announced so hopefully we’ll hear it sometime in the next couple years

JohnG. Reacts HELL YEAH! Suspended Animation was incredible so I’ll be very excited for the next one

Myung plays one of those weird basses on New Millennium, there are some live versions out there.
He plays the Stick on both New Millennium and Take Away My Pain, actually.;)
11:30 that's Edward Newgate (a.k.a. Whitebeard) from the anime One Piece.
Yep that's him! Never read/watched OP ,so i wasn't sure :D
Tony Levin on the Chapman stick bass. Music fest in anything Liquid Tension experiment plays !

Good morning, night, day? I don't even know ,but thank you for watching and glad you enjoyed! :D
Im tired of people comparing John Petrucci to God.. i mean yeah he is good but come on he is not a John Petrucci🤘🏽
When god sneezes he says”John bless me”
If God created a rock so heavy even he couldn't lift it, John Petrucci would deadlift it for 5 reps.

@@JohnG_YT yeah, i mean maybe you make a reaction to the songs Rusty Cooley ?) "under the influence" or "dominion" )))
Project LIQUID TENSION EXPERIMENT COME BACK..!!!!
It’s in the works :D
just a little advice, use as good headphones as you can, to catch all the stuff ;) anyway LTE3 is on the way... check!
I have my awesome Audio-Technica headphones now,so i feel ready for LTE 3! :)
@@JohnG_YT great, in around 63 days it should be out...
I'm glad you chose this band over Beartooth. Nothing against them, but LTE blows most other bands out of the arena!
Thing is, this is actually easy for them. Really not much of a challenge.
Ok
kO - (me after Petrucci's solo)
