Came for the DeepMind review, stayed for the lesson in synthesis.
Honestly! This video connected a lot of dots for me :) I love that mental unlock feeling.
this is the comment of the video
Co sign the overview and the layout of synthesis applies to most synths. Seems like hardware synth actually is the best way to learn synthesis. Learned a lot from this video.
@@travistouchdown1812 me too. an epiphany!
I am just a beginner, but I found the mini teachable moments in this video on Modulation, the APP FX integration, and some GEMS to be great ways to learn more! Hope he continues to do these kinds of (in review) synthesis teaching moments on all the appropriate videos, so informative! 😊
I've had my Deepmind 12d for about two weeks and thought I had most of it figured out. Watched this, and realized there's way more to play with under the hood. Synth companies just need to hire loopop to do video tuts for all their products! Thanks for making this!
Thanks! I don't take money from manufacturers - this way I can make videos about products I think are interesting... sometimes those are harder make than just paying for a tutorial ;)
did someone say Eventide? amazing
would you say that you could get away with the 6 voice version or are the availability of the 12 voices OP? and is their any DAW integration, meaning can I get the software to work in ableton f.e.?
@sbmphr thx for the reply. seems like dm12d is worth it. I was only on the fence about it since I could get a cheap used dm6 but it seems like the additional voices are used so.. thx.. as for daw integration. it seems midi in and out is enough atm.. it just would have been nice to get some automation within the DAW.
@sbmphr I have 3 of them :-))
You really are the best synth reviewer out there. Without a single doubt.
Thank you for your incredibly valuable work.
not even the manufacturer himself can make such an ingenious product video!
for me it’s the best DM12 video here on UA-cam for anyone interested in buying one.
This is really what I would like to see more of from Behringer. It's a good example of their engineers being perfectly capable of making something very effective and unique.
Like the Neutron?
why not both though? clones AND original synths
@@bartosz_xenon Sure. I never said one or the other.
phero i was not impressed with it. Sold it after a month.
@@SPAZZOID100 Deepmind is my favourite synth.
I don't need a synth...
I don't need a synth...
I don't need a synth...

LOL I told myself that 8 synthesizers ago. My recording room looks like mission control. I have a DeepMind 12, a Model D, a K2, A Yamaha DX7, DX7s ( i prefer the original DX7) and a Yamaha EX5. THEN I have an Ensoniq SQ1+ and a Novation Mini Nova. I can usually play them all through my DAW from my master controller keyboard which is an M-Audio Keystation Pro 88. I think I have enough synthesizers ( according to my wife at least) and it's doubtful I have room for anymore :) If you want a great analog synth, go with a Deep Mind 12. I have been playing piano and keyboards my entire life (since age 3) and I have to tell you, the Deep Mind has to be my favorite out of all the synths I have ever owned!
@@scottcupp8129 Shhhhhh REV2 16 Voice is mega........ UB-XA is on my list. (no such thing as enough synthesisers.... its like saying your having too much fun !!!)
Exactly how I got the Arturia Microfreak, and the more I play with it and watch synth videos (especially Loopop) the more I want to get it a couple companions! XD
@@passivehouseaustralia4406 LOL yeah I know right?
“Mod matrix is typically the most dreaded part of a synth”
Modulation routing is one of my favorite parts of a synth. Absolutely love DM-12s implementation, having so many destinations available including FX.
Agreed, the mod matrix on my Microfreak makes this tiny synth a lot of fun to learn on and play with, not to mention it's mountain of oscillator types.
Deffinitly making me want to get more Synths to partner it with as well as effects
I had finally convinced myself that I didn't need a Deepmind 12 and here you are bringing me back to the idea ahhh. Still, always a pleasure!
Honestly for the price you def need one.
@@reginaldbowls7180 - The price pretty much defeats anything in the cons list for the DeepMind. I got this baby for $600 b-stock the first month after its release
@@lordundhimself1310 Exactly I got mine for $600 too. For that price its a complete no brainer. I also love that the Midas guys worked on this thing too.
@@reginaldbowls7180 and TC Electronics and Klark Teknik are no slouches with effects either. Til this day I still look at my DM12 with disbelief. I don't see myself replacing it unless I somehow got a Moog One or something lol
I usually find a way to hate my keyboards but ever since I bought this one, it’s still my main keyboard and I find amazing stuff about it after having it for a couple years
Thank you very much for covering the deep mind, even though it came out two years ago! :)
Many just make a short video on launch, they don't let it "age", settle in, thus we miss all these sweet tips and tricks
Exceptional and the most expansive synthesis tutorial I have seen for a VERY long time - no unnecessary blather - just brilliant!
Alright! A loopop DM video! I had assumed you were letting this one pass by. Glad that isn't the case.
One quick note on the mod matrix: You don't have to use the data entry or encoder to set the values. There are shortcuts. You can hold the MOD switch, then press an edit button to set the source to that control. Then you can move the fader for any destination and it will set it. Obviously if the parameter doesn't have a hardware control on the DM, then you have to use the encoder/data entry slider, but it is a nice time saver.
Thanks for a great, in depth video!
Thanks and crap! I had it written down to show that and missed it for some reason, but that is indeed an excellent shortcut!
I just got the Deepmind 12 today. I figured out right away I needed an education. Thank you for the video. I will watch it several times to understand all you presented.
Anytime I think about selling my DeepMind12d I watch this video again, and it gives me that same “Oh my goodness, what a unit” feeling, every darn time.! This is a timeless walkthrough the DM12 It definitely stapled you, as the “Go to” review channel on all things worth considering. Many thanks, from the past, today and no question, the future:-)
So nice detailed review. Your point of view is what I was missing about this synth, and helps me understand the value of it. Thank you!
Thank you for going over this synth - in the way that only you do. Your videos are so well thought out. I’ve owned this synth for about 3 months and have gotten pretty good with it - but as usual - because you cover it - I learn new things! You’re awesome!
Thank you good sir!
Just ordered one. Was on the fence for a few months but this video has completely sold me on it.
As someone relatively new to synths coming from guitar/bass I genuinely feel like I learned a lot of valuable general information here too. Very grateful...
Amazing synth isn't it? I LOVE mine. As you can see by my profile picture, I featured my DM12
Another excellent video. You have a real skill for teaching the basics of synthesis. I’ve played for years, but still find myself loving how you describe a normally complex concept so readily.
I love you, Loopop. I just bought a Deepmind 12 two weeks ago and I’ve been looking for a video you may have done on it in the past. Thank you so much for releasing this. You’re the best.
That’s probably the best tutorial about DeepMind12 on UA-cam,and I watched many of them. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for this deep dive! You taught me so many new things I had no idea my DeepMind could do.
Very thorough and well illustrated. You’re a good teacher! All other synth tutorials should look to you for inspiration. I hope other people can find this and learn as much as I did.
You’ve shown me the rabbit hole, and I can’t wait to go down it.
Love that your reviews are so thorough that, sometimes, they are the only source to address a question. Very helpful. Thanks for taking the time to cover everything so well.
I love you for this loopop. I've had my DM12 for about a year now. I'm so glad I bought this baby
This review was amazing and in depth. You do excellent work and I just wanted to say Thank You!
Incredible tutorial, as usual. Whenever I am interested in buying a new piece of gear, I check to see if loopop did a video on it. Thank you man.
This is by far the best in-depth of the Deepmind out there, super helpful and insightful. Thank-You! ✌🏻
The best review of this synth in the Internet. Thanks a lot!
GREAT tutorial on deepmind function and operation. Behringer should be paying you, for this , because watching this was the tipping point for me buying the Deepmind 12. Thanks for taking the time for us mere mortals.
Bro, you're such a legend, love tuning into your wisdom and clarity on all the synths but especially on the deep mind.
A new trick of Deepmind 12 = Integration with Omnisphere 2.6! just tried it out and it’s not just the sliders, buttons and knobs controlling omni, but even some of the menu dive options are translated. (LFO/Arp menu, etc)
Works great!
I refuse to spend that amount of money on software, depending on my computersystem or Windows version... I go only for hardware. If that crashes at least all my other synths will still work :-)))
@@deauvillevrienden I normally would agree with you, however I own both the DM12 and OMNISphere and Eric does and amazing job with it for over 10 years he keeps updating it and making better each time. The v2.6 with Hardware integration is really amazing as Adam's mentions. Of course, I would rather buy a Behringer CS-80 Hardware synth than some software plugin. But with OMNISphere you really get a good way to integrate your hardware and software together and can do some cool live things with it, stacking and layers voices and using a hardware MIDI slider controller or iPad. Plus it has over 10k of sounds included and your can create and import your own samples. So, I would say it's worth checking out. Just my 2 cents.
awesome loopop. I am just now researching what will be my first analogue synth.
This review and education has helped enormously.
now I have to watch all your vids lol !!!
I've owned my Deepmind 12 for two years now. It's a real workhorse when it comes to sound design, probably even more than my Rev2. I would love to see an upgraded Mk 2 version though with a larger screen, true note sequencer, audio inputs and perhaps an additional digital oscillator that's user configurable or capable of wavetable synthesis.
A little patch bay would be cool too, but that's just my eurorack brain being hopeful. Love my both my DeepMinds, just wish they had a little more I/O capability.
Hey! I recognize you from GadgetCloud! Small world ain’t it?
I've also had my Deepmind since launch. Great value even for the higher price tag back then.
The feature I miss the most is a global FX on/off switch, or a global wet dry slider. The FX are so powerful on this synth and somewhat overwhelming on a lot of the presets. I know you can go to the FX menu bypass, but while browsing your presets it's a bit involved.
I know, but I'd say, all the more reason to have more than menu access to the FX, or just a global bypass or wet/dry . Tweaking a preset I find it very helpful to check what part of the sound is the analog engine, what part is the effects - exactly because the effects are modulatable in the matrix it can sometimes be hard to tell.
Ou
Amazing video, thank you so much. I'm a guitarist primarily and bought my first synth for recording purposes. This video is so SO helpful. Learned so much. Thanks again.
Thank you for constantly putting out the best synth videos. Great balance between review, specs and tutorial. Giving us a great idea of how a synth will work in our own world.
Deepmind is a great synth, tonally maybe not the most advanced but personally I find it incredibly quick to get where you want.
I purchased this synth because of this - no regrets so far, after almost 6 months still only scratched the surface. Thanks loopop
I think im going to get this over the minilogue
Amazing work! Even as a long time owner I found it entertaining to watch and it gave me some new ideas.
simply the best presentation of the deepmind i´ve ever seen...
Thank you. What a clear and precise way to educate - even learnt something about Synths and been playing for 40 years, well done keep up the good work.
Surprised by what sounds I can get out of this thing every time I turn it on. So fun to play with. Great video!
Damn, was thinking about buying this and now I see an actual in depth tutorial. I’m definitely buying this.
sorry to say, but Behringer convinced me as a synth manufacturer. All machines I tried were potential keepers. The DM12 is on my wishlist, happy owner of a Model D. They did their homework where others were sleeping long and deep...
Sorry to say?
DM12, Neutron, MS-1 so far here. Each is definitely a lifelong keeper. 808, Poly D, K1 and their 303 clone is next on my list... though if they start releasing any heavy hitter polys or certain classic monos this year, those will have to sit on the back burner for a while.
2600, OB-6, CS-80 and VCS-3 ? Man,. If they hit a home run with those, the synth world will explode and ULI will be king forever.
Shh, the synth snob trolls are sensitive to the B word.
You have the best reviews! Clear, informative and no BS!
Wonderful run-through. Love how thorough you are, and your enthusiasm really shines through. Thanks for the content :)
Such an awesome video. So comprehensive, so well delivered. I come back here for a refresher every couple of months!
This synth is finally getting respect. It’s amazing.
I've had mine for 29 months now, and just used it to learn the keyboard, wearing the keys out . . All the while ignoring the true brilliance of the thing--possibly the best synth for the money out there. Some of these patch creation vids have produced truly lovely sound. I promise I will learn how to do this! [I'm usually just in D-106, 'Cathedral'] I CAN'T WAIT . . THANK YOU for posting, loopop.
Most Excellent Tutorial this thing just keeps on giving
This is such a great video! I learned a lot. Ive owned the deepmind 12 for 2 years and I think it is so under-appreciated! If this had a marquee name on it like Korg, Roland, etc I think many more people would praise it to no end.
I ordered a Deepmind 12D today. I can’t wait to receive it, and to put my hands on one for the first time.
Cant believe I missed this one Loopop owning DM12 😬😂🙌
Thanks as always...you know we all really appreciate you😉😎
This is amazing! The best and most informative review ever. You have a very didactic approach to reviewing instruments. Thanks!
you are my hero of tonight. this tutorial is complete and i've learned a lot with it. thank you VERY much. Even if i didnt own a deepmind, it would still be useful, and i've been using synths since the late 90's (but never had a clear tutorial like yurs, i guess). cheers to you!
This may be the best tutorial for this synth. Well done.
My favorite synthesizer. Powerful beast. Love it so much!
Amazing demo - when I bought my Deepmind 12, a few months ago, I legitimately searched specifically for your video on it!!
Gosh, am I glad you’ve made it now!
Had a DM 2 years but still learnt a lot from this video. You've researched this great synth very well Loopop. One thing owners might like to try is using the control sequencer as a note sequencer as shown in the video, and combining it with the arpeggiator. By slowing the control sequencer you can get nearly the same function as the Minilogue XD's note sequencer, ie 32 continuous measures of an arp sequence that's changing pitch. The DM is a terrific synth!
Very thorough review loopop. As always you do a wonderful job loopop. I enjoyed seeing your reviews and I gained very knowledge info. Keep up the great work.
Thank you! I just got the deepmind 6 and this is a video I'll keep referring back to.
Incredible synthesis lesson!!
It could not be explained better.
Thanks!
You have the most comprehensive reviews man. Great work.
A really enjoyable and informative review/tutorial - What a great teacher. Thanks
My favorite stuff from this video: poly chord, the arpeggiator and how you can create custom patterns for it, the ipad and how you can more easily create control sequences, the general sound and FX... everything else can be powerfully confusing.... but man, what a synth, indeed.
this is by far the best kickoff lession for learning how to work with a deepmind by far... you should get good money for that sir! keep up the awesome work and thanks a bunch
Thanks! I don't take money from manufacturers but there is a Patreon with a pretty nice book I hear :)
Would be interested in a follow up video exploring what you could do with the CV in, particularly if you could integrate a bit of modular synth gear into the mod matrix of the DM12.
@stephen roldan Explore and let us know what you find! I'll be doing the same once I've rebuilt my studio. I think there could be a lot of interesting things to come up with, particularly if you could sequence chord holds in the pedal mode demonstrated in this video. I'd also like to use the random generator of my 0-coast for messing with things in the mod matrix.
This synth amazes me more and more every time I play it. I use it probably more than any other synth I have at this point. What a gem.
They should include a link to this video whenever you buy a deep mind 12
Brilliant video. I love all the hidden gems and the musical interludes. Perfect video really.. you gave me so many cool ideas thanks man
Hi, This has been so helpful to me. You have a wonderful way of simplifying complex (or seemingly complex) stuff. In fact you are my go to guy when I want to understand my gear better. One thing I am curious about is what goes on before you record your videos. I would love to see a new video of how you explore a new piece of gear. Your process seems to get to the heart of what a synth/keyboard/etc is capable of. I think that video would be incredibly helpful for many people. To adopt your discovery process (what we don't see). The older we get the harder it seems to really deep dive our gear. Thank you for all that you give and your simple approach is a huge benefit to many of us. Cheers!
Excellent overview !
Wow… I’ve had a deep mind 12 for a few years now. After this video I have a whole new synth. Thanks loop!
So glad I have a DM12. Thanks for pointing out the hidden gems!
Yay, thanks for reviewing the Deepmind!
tech insights and always some theoretical/practical synthesis knowledge on the side chain. your channel has a great value for beginners. thanks
Thank you Loopop for another amazing review, now i am starting to know better my new Deepmind 12 😊
Getting my Deepmind 12 this Friday, will be coming back to review this video!
Always come to this channel for the best deep dives on UA-cam!!
I have this synth my only synth…generally use Kontact libraries ..I don’t see the point of most sampled synth libraries …so limited control options. . This is a really comprehensive ,unbiased reveal of this great synth . I think this synth is a genuine bargain ..it is so versatile 🙏🙏🏿😎🎩✨🦄
This by far one of the best tutorials I've seen
well done Mr loopop, finally couldn't resist to subscribe.
Excellent as always
Thank you and superb demo at the end!
I wish Behringer would provide alternative models with an LCD & digital preset save function in their analog reboots for those of us who aren't as concerned with tradition. Great review! Thanks
Nice one ! Love the 12D, very good tuto !
Loopop: knowing more than me about the synths I've had for years since 184BC
This review is so good it got me over my growing disenchantment with this synth for the last two years. I must have watched it so many times it started making sense . I still can’t update with the editor. And there are still tuning issues which can be corrected by initialization of the preset when it does happen. But I have gotten better results with the matrix and that has helped a lot. I still think a firmware update to allow note entry into the sequencer directly by the keyboard which could still utilize the different style settings there as different gate clock choices etc. so thank you for helping me get settled with it. Oh and writing over the Richard Devine presets is very rewarding! Too! LOLLOL! 😂Peace Christo 👽🎶🐕🛸☮️🙏
Awesome tutorial. It's videos like this that sell this synth. I hope you got a big thank you from Behringer !
World class synthesis tutorial thank you .
Thank you for this! I've been praising the deepmind for a long time, happy to see it represented by one of the best.
What a small world. Im here getting watching more deepmind videos after seeing Jorb's deepmind video which gave me bad G.A.S !
@@benbauer1065 Thanks for this, 2 years ago I already knew what I was all about. Lol! 😂🙏🙏
I have DM 6 coming back to this vid. Always inspires me. Thanks so much. I am just a little supporter of your channel.
Great tutorial and in depth synthesis lesson, I've learnt plenty off new things after watching your tutorial, thanks for such great video and wealth off information my Deepmind 6 won't be viewed the same again what a workhorse 🙂
Long overdue. Another great video. Really surprised you haven’t covered the Novatjon Summit yet.
I just want to congratulate you for getting those screen insets to look the same from different camera angles.
You are a beast! Thank you! I bought my Deepmind 12 after watching your video, you explained everything and the best way!
Also, you told us some gems you probably don't discover sp easily, Behringer should hire you for official tutorials
Probably the most informative machine specific video I've ever seen.
just what I needed to help me get down on my DM 12d. thanks !
Excellent video! It answered a few of my questions about the Deepmind. The only thing I wish the synth had which is missing is ring modulation.
Although I don't have a deep mind I am tempted now. But watching your video's is a pleasure. You are a great synth teacher.
this is excellent! thank you, sir! 🙌
thanx! touched DM12 a few days ago. Unique character!
Thanks for this tutorial. Behringer crippled their DM12 sales with mediocre documentation and over a thousand lackluster patches instead of 128 amazing ones. FWIW, the DM12 *does* have mild analog overdrive. You can change the VCA mode from "Transparent" to "Ballzy". It clearly drives it harder and gives a little grit.
