Released as the new single for their 2018 compilation album, Def Leppard's 'The Story So Far - The Best Of' and as a Spotify Singe, is a cover of Depeche Mode's 1989 smash hit, 'Personal Jesus'. While never a live staple, they did play the audio track as they were coming on stage during their 2019 tour before their Vegas Residency. I think they did an incredible job covering this song. I’m an avid Def Leppard fan and got to see them perform before they came to the United States. They’ve been my favorite band ever! Covering a song takes guts and they chose the right one in my opinion.

Great reaction as always guys! Fun fact for you guys! This song is actually not a Depeche Mode song they covered it too. The original was done by Johnny Cash! Love Leps cover of this its a rare low tuned song cool bass and cool low voice from Joe its def a much different DL sounding song but i still dig it!
Had no clue Depeche Mode didn't write this! You learn something new every day, LOL! And yeah, still sounds great and fits Joe's voice so well. The catalog is too deep for this to be one of my top tracks, but I still think it's a fantastic tune!
Personal Jesus was the second cover song suggested by Vivian Campbell for the “The Story So Far-Best Of” album. Viv’s first suggestion was ABBA’s Knowing Me, Knowing You. The band voted this song down. I have to agree with the band on this one. I also agree with Andy’s take on DL’s cover of Personal Jesus.
As crazy as it sounds, I'll bet Lep could have made "Knowing Me, Knowing You' a cool rocker, kinda the same way they made 'Waterloo Sunset' sound Lepparish! 'Personal Jesus' fits Joe's voice really well at this stage of his career, and I think that may have added to the appeal. It's a fine song, but nothing that really makes it stand out as must listen to in Def Leppard's expansive catalog. Cheers, George! ~A
I love the original Depeche Mode version. I dig Def Leopard but this is not something I’d go out to listen to again. Cheers
No argument's here, Robert. I dig it and think they did a great job on it, but the original is so iconic that I can't see it landing in my top Def Leppard tunes to play, especially since they have such an expansive catalog. Cheers!

Queensryche did Rebel Yell on their new album… love QR, but it was a miss for me. Depeche Mode sucks. 😂 This was okay…
It's funny because instrumentally, I think Queensryche did a great job on 'Rebel Yell', I just think Billy Idol's voice is so iconic that trying to cover his tunes is destined to fall flat, and that's not taking away from Todd La Torre because I think he has a great voice! Same with Lep covering, 'Personal Jesus', it's just too iconic. If you make it your own, it better be amazing. If you cover it as is, just know it will never compete with the original. That's why I loved 'Waterloo Sunset' so much off of Yeah. Lep took a 60's song that wasn't massive and breathed new life into it, and the results were amazing (IMHO).
