That was my favorite add you've done yet =D good job and thanks for putting effort into your adds.
Do a FUNKY bass cover of Nine Inch Nails' "Sanctified"!🤘
1:48 Lars Ulrich and the album ...And justice for all
Steve Harris doesn't play an alternating canter, he only accentuates with the index
*never forget winston*
10 out of 10 in musicality, bass skills, comedy, creativity (and singing). You are incredible, Charles! (Poor Winston... R.I.P.)
only real ogs will understand the last part
There isn't a metal bassist in the world without a Cliff phase😊
Me
Me when I was 16 and thought I was so cool playing bass through a line 6 spider amp with a phaser and distortion 😂
@@e1028 I play with distortion on bass because of Necrobutcher from Mayhem
I notice it's also the longest phase in the video...
Yes there is. Check billy sheehan
0:22 Rob's phase
0:28 Jasons phase
0:32 Cliff live phase
1:45 Lars’s phase
@@helpimadog-otherstuff8377 yessss haha
Hahahah
Where's Webster's phase? )
0:38 is jason's permanent phase
The Cliff phase gave me chills, makes you wonder what he would've achieved down the line
The Cliff burton phase is always be the best phase
Exemplified by the fact Charles only needed to call it the Cliff phase and no one will ever think "Cliff who?"
Amen to that
So for all of us stuck in Phase 8 (by choice), does that mean we're Cliffhanging?
I can't believe he was ever THAT good... I have much research to do now.
It seemed to last the longest 😂
Unironically, the sponsor phase is phenomenal! Always makes me watch through ads even though I'm often not interested in the product itself, but rather your creative singing/playing 🤣🤣
Salty Cracker and Charles, the only dudes to advertise without making me suicidal 👏😅
Epiccc play bro
Shout out to Cliff! But The Most Annoying Phase as an audio engineer really got me! 🤣 I always give the bass love!
Definitely Lars during...and Justice for All
He should have called it the Lars Phase
The reference to Winston its just amazing, he's still dead from that time you hit that wrong note in classical 😭😭😭
He would be so proud of you now that you are such an amazing bassist that create such amazing solos like this
Ha! Are there wrong notes in jazz? Maybe classical? ;-) still, poor Winston
You mean hes still dead from that time you hit that wrong note in CLASSICAL
@@Randomdude260 you're absolutely right I didn't even realized until now
The singing was actually surprisingly pretty good 🤣
Sound like he could be in a Disney animated film 🤣
But... could it resurrect Winston?
You sound like you were doubting him...never again...
@@trebmaster 🤣
Good melody too!
Charles never fails to amaze, educate and entertain me.
Thanks again for this lil gem brother 🤘🏾🔥❤
You're welcome, thanks for watching!!
@@CharlesBerthoud hey Charles, I'm a big fan since 2015 and I'm subscribe to you a way long time ago (not literally long time ago hehe😅😅) oh yeah anyways, since it's been a year and I never ask you a request a song that will make me hype everyday, can you make a bass music from devil may cry 5 called "BURY THE LIGHT" and that will be great to listen in a bass version, I'm sorry it's a long reply to you and sorry for my bad english...
Thank You and You deserve another million subscribers ❤❤🎉🎉🔥🔥
Steve Harris phase! Such a unique and instantly recognizable style. Up The Irons! 🤘
Iron maden rulez\m/
Shocked by the Lead singer phase. Amazing
No matter where you are in your BASS journey, or what genre you play in, you ALWAYS need the open E haha. Just a constant for us players. Cheers and wonderful as always man!
Haha yes, the most powerful sound in the world 🔥
@@CharlesBerthoud Absolutely!
@@CharlesBerthoud I think there's only one more powerful sound: tuning that string to D
@@stefanopani2848even better, tuning it down to B or C#
Waitttttttttttt. Yall are saying E is the most powerful sound, which is right, so that means... RUSH E IS THE MOST POWERFUL SONG IN THE WORLD. K but actually, once I master slap and pick bass, I'll do a Rush E but SLAP cover.
I'm in the "Open E Phase" now...been playing for years lol.
The Prog and Djent Parts are my favorites!
I've always wanted to hear you playing some tech death metal stuff like Beyond Creation, Obsucra, etc.
I started with the Steve Harris phase. He’s the reason why I started playing bass.
i started and im still here. 10 years
legend
Idem here
Yes. 🤘
Great! Love the sound. Your original stuff is always the best!
As always thanks Charles for the stellar bass work and great humor... especially loved the Cliff phase 🤘
You make the hardest stuff look so simple, fantastic musician!
CHARLES! This is simply amazing. Thank you.
Good job on the singing. made we want to listen to the entire add for sure. You earned it.
This is so spot on. Your one of the most entertaining UA-cam performers out there. Thanks.
Playing bass with a bow actually sounds heavenly...
Loved the harmony!
You always manage to put a smile on my already happy life. Wow, I love these videos, well done Charles!
0:22 Robert Trujillo be like
Like if you never left the Cliff Burton phase.
I'm Cliff's age (if he were still with us)
He'd be proud there is a Cliff phase.
An amazing Medley if you can call it that and I also have to mention of course that I am LIVING for the singing ads Charles another fantastic video mate well done!
Only made it to pick phase back in the day but now I'm motivated to go for Cliff Burton
F for Winston, remembered the day when I met him... such a nice and humble guy.
I know it’s a joke but Your singing is actually really good. I love your videos Charles. You actually inspired me to start playing bass a couple years ago and first lesson is actually next week. I’ve been playing by ear and you have no idea how much you’ve help me out
Thanks and congrats on starting bass!!! Have fun 🔥
The tone on the Djent Phase though is so good!!!! All of your tones are but that just makes my heart happy. Haha!
You are one of the most talented and funniest posters of UA-cam! Love your content.
You forgot the legendary phase, The Charles Berthoud phase! Also your singing is very beautiful.
I thought the Tapping phase was the same as this.
I don't think Charles will ever be a phase. He's here to stay!!
@@sonclearbrahman-ar1461 indeed!
Damn! That transition into the promo part was clean!
BEST Ad read EVER! Love the "teacher" behind you in the outro too!!
AMAZING WORK CHARLES!!!
God Bless you ALL!
Amazing video Charles 🙌🏻, I’m a metal bass player and I went to almost every phase you have showed in this video 😂, the only one I missed is the “Wearing your bass insanely low”; also I can do tapping but no way at your level, you’re such a master and I’m inspired to improve by practicing
Thanks 🙏🏼 for show how cool the bass can be when you really master your instrument, greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽
You have to be one of the best Bass players I've ever seen. You need to be in some crazy great band and write songs that will make the whole world sing and last the test of time. Love the videos!!
Who are the others?
@@sonclearbrahman-ar1461 Hahahaha... Remco the Funk master is the only other youtuber I listen to. All the others are in bands like Chris Squire from Yes. Paul McCartney, John Myung Dream Theater. John Paul Jones. I can go on and on... All great bass Players in great bands that wrote great songs. .. His songs and playing are awesome. He is technically better then all of them. He needs a great band. I would listen for sure...
@@GH51505150 Thankyou! John Paul Jones's instrumental, many-stringed bass, solo album is certainly a contender!
I agree. Even Victor Wooten The Great played in a band, Bela Fleck and The Flecktones.
A great bassist play(ed) in a great band!
Here I add my bass heroes to the list (not necessarily a soloist, I think) :
Flea, RHCP
Les Claypool, Primus
Tim Commerford, RATM
Stuart Zender, Jamiroquai
Joe Dart, Vulfpeck
Chris Wolstenholme, Muse
...
@@koetjingoranje4241 Charles IS the band!
The Visual Kei and Technical Death phase were missing, but still, it was great!
Insanely well-played and pleasant to watch!
Ha, love the roll into the ad! As usual great stuff inspiration for all at every phase of musician.
Do this for jazz bassists please!
Steve Di Giorgio got to phase 8, added fretless and created his own style.
And to avoid phase 13 as he said, ‘play cool shit and people will want to hear cool shit.’ Hence why his bass is so forward on most albums he’s on.
Didn't work for Jason Newsted though, unfortunately. His playing on ...And Justice For All is bloody fantastic, but you need a remastered version to hear it.
He did reach a somewhat proggy phase tho
What a great video! you did an amazing job with music as always! The Cliff Burton era is definitely the best! Althought I'm kinda sad you wouldn't put Ryan Martini from Mudvayne somewhere, cuz he is also by far one of the greatest bassists in Metal!
I think I go through all those phases at every show :) Great stuff as always
Everybody: "Ads are boring and annoying!"
Charles: "Hold my Bass!"
Only the OGs remember Winston
You amaze me every time you upload a video
Love the reference to and justice for all cutting out all the bass ... lol
Im a drummer and I miss Cliff Burton soooo bad ❤
I'm sad for any bassist who experiences "... And justice for all" phase.
You played every phase of every metal bassist, so I guess that makes you...every metal bassist. We literally heard from every metal bassist through your playing. Impressive.
I was, at first, surprised that there were no "Les Claypool" or "Geddy Lee" phases, but then I remembered that they're both essentially vocalists who, on occasion, "dabble" with the bass (and an odd keyboard, for good measure). 😁
Your tapping is SO clean omg
Hi Charles, could you do hardest Song with Jamiroquai? That would be insane… Thanks for the Uploads
actually amazing like if cosmic girl would be the hardest song ever!
@@pengu698 or emergency on planet earth
Missing the brutal death metal bassist who uses all the techniques at once
It's good to hear this. It's something that sounds different from you rather than the typical funk-type stuff you play. I'd love to see more of that versatility.
Growing up as a Metal Head this is probably my favorite solo of yours.
Caramba, você toca assustadoramente demais.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
The best bassist on the internet (in my honest opinion). I hope the other dude doesn't "slap" me. Hahahaha
1. I love that the glasses went on for the Djent phase
2. Best advert I've seen on a UA-cam channel haha
also, props for the retro strappage... i use the same 👍 and a retro cotton dimarzio off-white...
and the splendid LeFay... second only to the Lord's Alembic.
First commenttttt
👏🏻🥇
The tapping that you did is insanely impressive ;) huge respect
Love how you managed to make the cliff phase part actually sound like an early metallica song lol
How does it all come together as one composition???
Is there a full version of 12-Tapping phase? I fell in love with it
Absolute fire as always 🔥💀
Charles, I have watched YOU play bass more than all others combined. I have only one question... how do you do the shaky camera thing?? It is genius, and your video skills are on a par with your playing, if such a thing were possible! 🤔
This is both funny and incredibly accurate. GJ :)
the cliff phase earned my follow. well done and thanks for the nod to one of the bass greats.
Never really had a Burton phase, and I don't like playing leads on bass exept for little snippets here and there where there is room.
Was never into tapping either, though I like to sometimes end songs by playing the same note in ascending octaves with the last one being tapped.
My prog phase basically consisted of playing a couple Toto songs in school.
All other phases in the video though, I'm jumping back and forth between them all the time.
I am SO GLAD you added the Djent phase! Djent for bass guitarists in bands like Erra are insane!
I love your cliff phase! The Djent phase was eerily familiar. I have a Schecter 5 fretless for my Djent!
I think you are the only UA-camr whose adds I don't skip. Love your content
The last part of the Cliff phase sounded like the harmony in Spit out the Bone
great! as always. you should create step by step tutorials, please. or maybe those already exist?
lmao..alright that ad break was creative af. Well done.
incorporating cliff was fantastic. you put a spin on it
Genuinely curious how you get your bass set up for tapping, ive had a bunch of basses from low end to high end and i can never get the action anywhere close to tapping level.
Your Cliff phase and Djent phase were awesome.
Great stuff as always, but it's missing the multiscale fretless tech death phase hahaha
Man, you put a smile on my face this morning.
You’re a great metal bassist 👌🏼
Great show in one clip! And best promotion in the end! 😄
Dude, I love how the Cliff Burton phase uses different bass lines of his with interesting fills between.
I love how he wore the glasses to look like Steve Terreberry in the djent phase 😅👌
Love the reference to "Now Winston's dead!" from jazz vs classical 😂
0:54 Anesthesia sounds cool like that!
awesome piece showing off phases and styles.
1:25 Myung phrase!
Love the Cliff Burton recognition!! That and 9 is my favorite.
Very accurate. Unfortunately, I got stuck at the Cliff phase a decade ago. Maybe I should try the djent phase?
Also, Winston R.I.P.
Anyone can tell you are an absolutely astonishing bassist, but I also appreciate your sense of humor! The wigs, the facial expressions. Gifted.
You are the only youtuber where I dont skip the sponsor part, you always make it so entertaining 😂
12. Tapping Phase is the best! And also the ending is great!
Best delivery of an add yet! you gots some seerius skeels, cheers!
I also had a Stu Hamm and Jaco phase as well
Pretty solid harmonies at the end, m8!!!
Can you please cover Schism (Tool)? I love hove the song evolves and how the flow is not letting go of you. You can do that, Charles!!!
You nailed the ad and made it watchable, that was maybe the most impressive thing about this video
Hitting us with the "Two Bloody fingers" gallops with the Steve Harris part. Love it!
