One of the best outro's to a song ever.
This is easily my favorite song from them.
My 2nd favorite DL song. Heard it twice live…epic! Everything that DL excels at, it’s in this song. Joe has said it’s the greatest song the band has ever written. I can’t argue with that!
No argument here either. I think the length kept this from being released (they had a radio version of Rocket) but I believe this would have done really well on the charts.
One of my favorites from Hysteria! When that chorus kicks in I get chills every time! Cheers!
Agreed, love this tune and am still a bit baffled that they didn't try to release it. Steve Clark at his finest! Merry Christmas, my friend! ~A
In the round!!
Absolutely epic!!
My first Lep show was them 'In the Round'... been hooked ever since!
Just found your channel, love what you are doing, Gods of War is my favourite all time Lep song - I've seen them play it twice in concert out of three concerts, so I feel pretty lucky! The guy on the left in this video needs to work on his backup vocals haha
My favorite lep song ever
No argument here, Ronnie It's one of the best of all time from them that sometimes is lost because Hysteria was such a massive album. Cheers friend!
Love this song. Can’t wait until Hysteria gets the Dolby Atmos treatment like Pyromania did. I’m sure there will be so many bits and pieces that come to the forefront.
Interesting side note - Message In a Bottle by The Police influenced this song. Check out Classic Albums Hysteria to hear Phil talk about & play it. There’s also a bit about the backing vocals and how they layered them.
Utter perfection.
Hey Kenny! Thanks for the comments and yeah, such a great song. I love the Classic Albums Hysteria. When they play all the backing vocals and sounds in isolation, it still amazes me. And it holds up so well all these years later! Hope you're enjoying the series! ~A
At times in my life Gods of War has been my number 1 Def Lep track. When it's #2, it's because Foolin' is in the top spot.
No arguments there! Both are underrated gems on two masterpiece albums. I have to throw Animal in there at times too...but then again, trying to pick my favorites is like trying complete a Rubics Cube in 10 seconds for me LOL! Cheers, Rich!
These are one of my series thank you for doing them
We really appreciate that and glad you're enjoying them! We're having a blast doing these, and lot's more on the way! Cheers!
The first rock album I ever bought.
Loved house and hop hop but my mate told me the drummer only had one arm.
Had to buy the album just to check it out.......one of the best albums ever.
Fantastic song. Fun fact: that weird intro to Rocket before the music kicks in is the phrase "We're fighting for the Gods of War," but reversed. Not backmasked, straight up played backwards.
So funny... as a kid I swore it was "Oh helpless night with or without thee' until I learned about that on Hysteria Classic Albums, LOL! Such an epic tune! Hope you're enjoying the series so far! ~A
@@2TEN90 I never could figure out what it sounded like. I sort of heard "Oh hopeless nights" and the rest I couldn't fit to any other words. Yours sounds closest to what it sounds like. I knew it was backwards or distorted or something, so in 1988 my friend had an Amiga computer that could capture audio from analog to digital. So we captured that part and reversed it to see. Lo and behold, it was that line from Gods! I always felt that made Rocket a "companion song" to Gods of War.
@@RobinDale50 You guys went all out to figure that one out! I would sing the wrong lyrics with conviction, LOL! One of my best friends is also a huge Lep fan and laughed at me because for years, I sang, "Suddenly We Can, Up All Night" instead of "Seven Day Weekend" on Let's Get Rocked! 😁
That riff is actually, message in a bottle, by the police, slowed down.
My all time favorite song
Such an amazing song... would love to know how this would have been received if they released it as a single!
One of my favorite song
It seems to be a common theme going with the comments. It really is amazing from start to finish and showcases how good Clark was. Thanks so much for watching, and hopefully you enjoy the series! Cheers! ~A
Greatest band of all time
Yes sir Mark. Stick with us as we are reviewing every Def Leppard Song ever made!
This is Die Hard the Hunters brother
Ironically, they are two of the most underrated songs on Pyro and Hysteria! Agree, Michael! Cheers
They played this on both las Vegas and london hysteria live was awesome
Saw them out there as well... such a great performance. I'd be down with residency number three in the future! Maybe Pyromania start to finish? Cheers, Ronnie!
The note Joe hits at the very end in the video in the round is the best note he ever hit live before the final bombs and ReGan speaking
I don't think he gets enough credit for his singing ability and range. Just listen to him on OTTN and then progress forward. It's pretty amazing. Cheers, John! ~A
This song is epic!!!!
Honestly, one of their all-time best. Like a Steve Clark master-class!
I saw them perform this live in 1988 and during the Viva Hysteria run. Will always miss Steve. So underrated it’s criminal
I love this song
As do we! Would have loved to see this released. I have a feeling it would have done really well, and makes us remember what we loved so much about Steve Clark. Cheers!
Gods of War wasn't even one of the 7 releases from Hysteria. Over 30 years later Joe Elliot said in an interview its his favorite DL song.
And I would agree with Joe. It's not the most important song on the album that obviously belongs to Sugar, and of course, Love Bites was their only number one, but as far as a damn near perfect song, I think this and Animal are the two best on Hysteria, and that's saying something since there is absolutely no filler on this album. Cheers! ~A
@2TEN90 God's of War, Hysteria and Rocket were great musical accomplishments. Even if they didn't sell the album, they make a great arguments for DL being in the Rock and Roll hall of fame.
Oh and Pour Some Sugar makes a great argument for them being in the Strip Club hall of fame 🤣
Pretty much my favorite song of all time.
No argument here... just a killer track. I commented to someone else that I would love to have seen how this would have done if it were released as a single. I honestly believe anything from the album released would have charted. Cheers, Adam, and thanks for watching! ~A
Viv always says he still can't play Gods of War properly.
Steve was certainly a rare talent with a style distinctly his own! Cheers!
Love the guitar in the end ...this came out when Reagan was president....you counted on America to be passive....you counted wrong!!!
Such a great tune! If there is such a thing as an underrated tune off of Hysteria, this would be it. Saw them last week in Hershey and they played the Drastic Symphonies version of God's of War before coming on stage...just a beautiful version! Cheers, Donna!
Vivian has hard time with this song
Ahh one of my all time favorites. Arguably my favorite by them. So underrated it should've and couldve easily been a single and big hit back then but unfortunately they just had too many amazing songs. This era was their peak musically. I favor Pyro more but Hysteria is undeniably their best work. What they should've done and what i wish they couldve done was do what GNR did with Use Your Illusion and make 2 albums. It should've been a double album . Wouldve been absolutely incredible
Never really thought about a double album like UYI, but it would have worked. Hysteria's b-sides and leftovers were better than most bands' big releases. And also agree the magic of Hysteria and Pyromania just couldn't be replicated. I think of how amazing Adrenalize was as a follow-up, and it's never even mentioned in the same breath as the two prior. Cheers! ~A
😊😊😊
Vivian has hard time playing the solo
Makes you realize just how good Clark was... gone way too soon!
I live by a town .... 10*9*0 Any relation? Tenino
