- We're introducing meat rabbits to our Homestead! We are starting with a male Rex and two female New Zealand's. Join us as we begin this process and begin to dive into this new adventure. We're also catching back up on the chicken nesting boxes and adding a few tweaks to them!
I love this!! I actually show rabbits and raise meat rabbits so I have some tips ! First I would switch to water bowls since it allows the rabbits to get water better and grow faster as water bottles don’t let them get water as fast and a lot at a time. I would also get foot protector for the wire bottoms (we use foot protectors since they can get sores from always being on wire) Good luck y’all are doing great !
Thank you so much for the advice! Do you ever have any issues with the rabbits using the restroom in the water bowels? That was our only concern about that but they drink so fast I’m sure they’d love the bowels. And that’s a great tip about the wire protectors, we didn’t even think about that!
Yes they sometimes get poop in the bowls but o just clean it out when feed them
So you could always give them their bottle and bowl so they get can have clean water incase it gets dirty
Nice! I just got rabbits too!
That’s so exciting! Enjoy!

What can be substituted for wheat/barley (no gluten, no soy) if you do not want this in your/rabbit diet? What type of mineral licks and where to buy them?
This is our first time with rabbits so we have so much to still learn! I’ve seen gluten and grain free rabbit feed online so that may be an option. I’m not sure how accessible that is in store so ordering may be the best option for that. As far as salt and mineral licks I don’t believe it is a must as long as your rabbits have a healthy diet and are getting all the nutrients they need. I’d love to give them some in the future though so once I look in to that I’ll definitely share!
Chicken s run free in day they will dag Thur stuff you drop out covering them over isn't going to stop then lol ps . It great rabbits you add they manure to your raised beds
