According to a quick Wikipedia search, the Golden Pheasants normally live in dense forest and roost in those trees at night. It may be that the vast open spaces are a bit un-nerving for them. Consider planting some kind of prairie grasses, pampas grass, perhaps cedar trees or bamboo. Talk to a nurseryman about the types of trees and grasses that can provide cover for this species and will survive your harsh winters. Judging from the fact that they did not go back in their house, they will need some kind of weather proof structure. And since they have been accustomed to their chicken tractor, perhaps go ahead and bring that into the habitat in the meantime
I was thinking the same thing...might be good to add some bushes, small trees, grasses, etc. so that they have protective cover (even though predators can't get to them from above or otherwise). Suspect it is stressful in a wide open space that makes them feel vulnerable.
Anything but bamboo, it will over fill the aviary. Bamboo spreads like crazy and is extremely hard to get rid of if you decide you don't want it anymore xD
@Jake The pheasant like lots of cover. Build some nice garden boxes that are low and high. Than plant stuff like corn that has stiff stalks and have some height to them. If you can find some stalks you can also build nesting boxes that are wrapped and hidden in the stalks. I have also seen small teepees work in the past but they don't last as long. You can dress up bins with stalks and foliage and cover them in camo the birds like too. They are easily able to be moved around like mini tractors as well. Good for times of nesting when you need to get eggs. If it gets real windy you may need to tie those down though. Just a helpful reminder that fake trees and foliage are not good for birds if they ingest them so be mindful of that. I would suggest getting some transported fruit trees to add in the aviary. You might have a difficult time finding stalks now too so hay will probably be your best bet rather than fake stuff. If you have to do something store bought I would suggest hemp products but be aware that if you get nest baskets the birds spurs and feet can get caught in those. I lost birds to this before. Am happy to finally see things come together and I am excited to see what you guys do next. Work is never done on a farm lol. Happy Holidays!
I was thinking some kind of bush. Maybe blueberry or red current bushes? They are thinner shrubs, so you can see them hiding in there, and the shrubs will produce food for them.
@@shadytreez Berries are one of the best options actually. They are safer than other fruits. I would suggest a mulberry tree but trees in an aviary have to be trimmed and maintained so bushes might be easier for them. Good call!
This was such a touching video.. I’ve watched yall move, grow your family & your birds.. Build that beautiful home for the birds from scratch! This right here was worth the wait.. I can see the 2nd 3rds and 4th guessing in your eyes. I know how much those birds mean to you & your family.. Releasing them out there in that big shelter had to almost feel like letting your kids finger go so they can walk on their own for the 1st time.. Fear of them falling but the joy of that 1st step “ flying” … ❤❤ your family has worked so hard on this shelter.. I hope it keeps everyone safe, and we all get to continue to watch those beautiful birds fly! ❤❤
WOW! This is amazing, fantastic, and wonderful. I was worried I would not live long enough to see your aviary, as I just turned 78 in October. I have been following you and your family since you lived in the other house and had only two boys. But what you all do for your birds is give them a permanent home, and I wish you all good health and happiness. 🐦🐦🎆🎆🎉🎊😀😀❤
I'm so happy to see the aviary finished. The birds are going to love living there. Y'all did a wonderful job building this, it looks so beautiful and peaceful!
Yay! Finally! You could put some shrubs in the aviary, to offer more cover for the pheasant. That would be natural habitat for them. It gives them a sense of protection from being in such a large environment and not feel like they are easy bait in an open floorplan. It would look nice, too. It so nice to finally see them in their forever home!
wow what an emotional moment. I am so genuinely happy for you guys, congratulations on finishing this amazing project. it’s been a privilege to have been here since day 1, and I can’t believe we’re finally here!!! as always, so excited to see what comes next. And proud to have been a supporter all of these years. Well done guys 🤍
Its been years in the making and its finally done. Congratulations to all on the hard work by the whole family. Jake, you had me in tears of joy watchingg this. Be safe and blessed.
This is so very AMAZING to see the Birds doing well in the Aviary......After 5 years of building this amazing aviary......Thank y'all.....and GOD BLESS......From an Old F-4 pilot Shoe🇺🇸
I am so happy for you that the big day has finally arrived. The memories you're making with your kids now will last forever. Merry Christmas to the family.
I am very excited for you guys on this Major accomplishment. This was very hard work but, it will pay off for many, many years. Your kids will remember this and tell the stories for generations to come. Congratulations.
I have been watching since bamboo was in an egg, and you guys were still in your little White House on the Hill, you guys are so wholesome and honestly make a lot of your subscribers feel apart of your beautiful family. Thank you for taking us along on this 5 year journey, a new chapter is about to begin, love you guys!! ❤
I posted a comment on the Aviary build 4 video, which basically said from a Hut to a Castle, which was 4 years ago, my comment got a heart and a reply, so to see this video, things have really come full circle.
Poor Jake! You looked very sick on release day. I think I've never seen you this pale in a video. But I'm thankful you went outside to share this moment with us anyways. Really can't wait to see all the beautiful birds in spring and summer! 💜
Congratulations White House on the Hill! Your hard work has paid off and I couldn’t be happier for your birds! The journey to this moment was worth the wait!!!
What an absolutely exhilarating experience to finally see the birds move into their forever home, Love you White House on the Hill and have a happy holidays! 😍
Wow. So exciting. Can’t wait to see the ducks. I think they will all feel safer once the ducks are joining them. So beautiful. Merry Christmas to you all. xx
So cool. I love seeing them in a more natural environment. I think if some small trees grow up it will be even better for shade and vertical space. God bless!
Jake and Becky a long time coming and finally you guys got to release those birds in the aviary, glad to see this happening. I think you need some bushes and small trees around for the pheasants to hide or make a little cave . It will take time for everybody to adjust to their new home I guess. Congratulations 👍🏼
WOW! It's a exciting day. The birds are going to love their new home. You worked so hard on the aviary and it looks beautiful. I love birds. Congratulations! ❤
❤❤❤Amazing! So happy for all of you! Those gorgeous splashes of color against the winter landscape and the perfect hens camouflage. Thank you for sharing the big moment and all your hard work along the way.
It's great to see them all! I'm wondering if the pheasants are feeling a bit exposed and are looking to the trees outside the aviary...what about planting a small tree or bushes like a magnolia? Their open branches are great for roosting in.
I would defintely add more structure to the aviary, dead trees, low shelters for the pheasants with some hays or even leaf litter. Don’t know exactly how it went, but seems like the pheasants were rushed out of their coup, not giving them enough time get used to the entrance of the coupe. At least that’s how it came over on video
Maybe at the bottom of the posts you could make little bush huts for the pheasants? Like a little dome they can hide in but you could make it look like a bush!
The birds will need different roosting quarters. Peafowls are omnivorous so a Peasant will never roost in confine space the peafowls are. Same will happen between Peasants and other birds.
I remember the first time you announced you were building an aviary, it was so long ago! Congratulatons on completing this huge project, you just fulfilled my childhood dream of making a huge aviary full of birds.
Loved watching this build form the start. Great to finally see it finished. I do think though with working with poultry most my life the pheasants and peafowl won’t lay in the shed. They will make their own nests out within the aviary
My goodness 5 years! Time flies, I can't believe it's been that long already and I've been watching y'all since you lived in the rental, I love following y'all's journey through this crazy life and am grateful that you allow us to. 💜
I am so excited to see the birds finally come out. I’ve been watching for over five years when it all begins. it’s so emotional for me to see how much you guys have been working to do the best for these animals and all the hard work paid off, I love seeing your videos. Please make them for many more years I love to see it and all those things you do for the animals❤️
Wow, so proud of you guys - this has been a long time coming. You deserve a lot of praise for the hard work you and your family have done for your farm. Congratulations!
Congrats on getting the birds out! Wonder if the peafowl being so much larger claimed the inside? Maybe if you section of the other side and add a smaller door outside the other birds can use that?
Congratulations on this special day! Your family has worked tirelessly to bring this to fruition. Take pride in your accomplishments! It’s spectacular! God bless!
Wow what am amazing day. So happy to see the birds in the aviary. You may want to build some low lying boxes or something for the pheasants. I believe they like to cover in the grass. I could be wrong though. Congrats its gotta feel really good to finally see your vision coming to life.
Wonderfull job! Im so happy for you all! The pheasants may need some tall grass plants to give them coverage I think thats why they are staying by the fence in the wild they love flying out of tall grass plants
I was in high school when I started watching this channel. The aviary was what always kept me coming back for more updates. Now I’m graduating college and it’s finally over. Thank you for the journey
Awe this is brilliant news. What a beautiful moment we watched. Congratulations to you all for the grulling process that had to happen to make The aviary the dreamed reality you worked so harrd on. ❤ have an awesome day 😊
How exciting! I have been following you since before your third son was born and this video gave me such a thrill to see your whole family gathered for this release. Thank you so much for sharing these adventures with us ❤🐦
Just found your channel. I am jealous of the aviary. God really put his creativity on display when he got to all the birds. Blaze is beautiful. New subscriber here from southeast Texas.
What a full circle moment! Happy to see this come to life and how we have all grown in the last 5 years. I can't wait for the future of the aviary and how it will look with all the birds in there. Pheasants will appreciate some plantscaping, so consider planting medium sized dense shrubs and grasses where they will feel more at ease. I can so see you also introducing different types of cold hardy waterfowl that would look great in there in the future. Good luck and thank you for taking us on this journey with your family!
Have watched your family for years on UA-cam and you simply cannot help but fall in love with strangers. Have seen and mourned some of your struggles and disappointments. But, always cheer for you when things go well. This aviary is major for your family and birds. All I really want to say is Congratulations!! ❤☝
I'm so excited to see the birds finally in the aviary! You guys did such a great job building this thing by your selves. (with a little help from big machine operators) It looks marvelous. Congratulations!
Congratulations on the aviary! It turned out great. So much hard work went in to this project and I’m so glad your birds finally get a large, open and safe space to roam. Your kids are absolutely adorable. I love how involved they are in everything you do on the farm. Thanks for sharing this special event with us. ❤️
Soooo thrilled that you've finally been able to use the aviary for its purpose. Hope you'll try quail again so there will some ground-dwelling birds as well. Congrats on a magnificent construct which will bring all of us great joy. ❤😊
We've all waited so long for this, birds have gone from a Hut to a Castle!

Pampas would look good a4ound the pond
Tiger n lion normally live in the wild, not inside the cage

Thank you!

I can’t wait to see the mandarins move in soon! 🦆 🦚
Congrats!🎉 I think you should put their old coop out there for now. They are familiar with it. Later on once it's warmer you can pull it out.

I teared up when you finally let your first bird go. You worked so long and hard. What a wonderful day.
I wasn’t expecting this until spring… yay! Wonder which they’re picking for the very 1st release! 🥰 Maybe one of the peacocks? 🦚
I think the mandarins

I think an outside shelter for the Pheasants is a great idea
