Our biggest mistake was building our own hutch on our deck, not thinking ahead, that we can't move it from the deck due to weight (it's 3 hutches connected) ... Suggestion. Do not put hay or straw in the nest box. Put it in the cage and let the doe fix her nest herself. Whatever you can do to keep your rabbits busy and using their brain and body will make for healthier rabbits.

You can get them for like $20 and they tend to work pretty well. But if not its all good and we can still hear you! It might just make things easier for you when editiing and such. Cheers.
So I'm only a few minutes into the video and you said you have two bucks. I also have to but would prefer just to have one related to space and cost issues. My concern as well is what happens if my buck is unable to mate. My understanding is you can't have litter mates breed and what if you can't get another buck? Guess I'm just checking to make sure that's factual about not having litter mates breed
I choose not to because of my own research on the subject. But some people say it's okay to do so. I recommend doing your own research into the subject and doing what you think is best. From my research I have heard that negative traits from the litter mates breeding are heightened in their off spring. But some people will tell you otherwise. I'm just doing and sharing what I am comfortable with.
Interesting... I also raise rabbits quail and chickens lol. Though, I just got a new turkey, I'm looking for guineas to replace my old flock and I have Muscovy duck eggs incubating beneath two broody hens :) My bunnies are "mutts" (Angora Lop and Lionhead crosses), but I have American Bresse and Ayam Cemani chickens along with my regular layer flock. :) Those are my main animals other than the dogs (litter due in a few days), cats and soon the Muscovy. I want to sell my rabbits next and work on getting a meat breed going. My quail are Jumbo Coturnix, though I have some white wings and Celadon layers I'm gently trying to perpetuate the genetics of. Anyway happy I found your channel. I'm in SeMo (Southeast Missouri).
sorry another question.. since you tractor your rabbits in the non snow months lol how do you transition the mature rabbits back and forth from hutch to tractor and back again without stomach upset and how and when do you put your grow outs in tractors so they don't get sick? TIA
By mature rabbits, do you mean my breeders? The breeders spend most of their time in the hutches. I just bring them fresh things to eat. My growouts go out in the tractors at 8 weeks old. And all I do is while they are in with mom they start eating pellets and hay, just from nibbling on what there mom eats. Then when they go to the tractor at 8 weeks old they are fully weaned and while in the tractor I make sure to offer pellets still so they are still getting a familiar food and it will help them ease into the grass. Then over time I give them less and less pellets until they are eating mostly grass. If winter is coming and I can't keep them on grass as long I will start shortening their time in the tractors and giving more pellets and Timothy hay. Your right, their tummies sure are sensitive, so it's important to transition slowly. ☺️

I'm so glad you like the video ☺️ that's not a bad amount. It just depends on age, breed and if there still growing or full size. My bucks are big so I'm careful not to feed them too much. I give my breeders mostly Timothy hay and fresh greens then I supplement the rest of their diet with pellets. In my mind the more fresh stuff I can give them and the less pellets the better. I honestly have never had any issues with parasites. My rabbits have always been raised of the ground in hutches. In the nicer months I sometimes have grow outs on grass. But I process at 12 weeks and have never had any issues.
You process SF at 12 weeks? Are they pelts usable? I am wondering what the "sweet spot" would be.. to still have tender meat but be able to tan the pelts in SF?
Hi! Yes I process at 12 weeks. Their pelts are usable. I have tanned the pelts several times. But they are thin and easy to tear so you have to be careful when fleshing them. To be completely honest, I don't know what that sweet spot would be since I have never raised meat rabbits past 12 to 13 weeks. But that would be interesting to know for sure.

Do the rabbits get bumble foot? I’m trying to figure out how we want to raise our meat rabbits. My concern with a colony style is we have a lot of coyotes in my area. So I would think a hutch may be better
I have never had an issue with that. My rabbits always have some type of resting mat. I use squares of plywood. Plus the does get nest boxes too which is another way they are not on wire all the time.
I do not process my breeding stock. I wait for them to stop being productive breeders and then I re-home them as pets. I hope that answers your question
So, do you typically breed them twice in the spring and twice in the fall? About 2 months between breeding sessions, so maybe March and May, August and October? And then 4 processing days June, August, November, January? Or let them go longer so you're not processing in the middle of winter?

I agree with keeping them busy. I don't fix it up for them tho with the hay. Yes I put it in there but they fix it up and add hay and such. :)

That's about right. No exact schedule tho. I process in my basement so it doesn't matter when they are ready
