- I must've been hiding under a rock to have not known about this group. I've heard their name around, but never looked at their stuff. I'm just glad to have caught this reaction on video at my first view of it. I am not exaggerating, guys. This was so powerful, and really captured the raw romance between Christine and Eric.
My favourite thing during covid-19: to watch strange people getting excited about Nightwish. That was enjiyable, thank you from Finland

This song was my introduction to Nightwish in 05. Been in love ever since. Even with all the changes.
My introduction was getting my hands on Oceanborn when i was 13 and putting it on cd player.. and we all know what song is first one. There was not going back.

Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here in 2005 in the "End Of An Era" concert, in Helsinky, Finland, then with Tarja Turunen, the first female singer of the band, together with the bass player, Marco Hietala. This was also Tarja's last concert with the band, she was fired immediately after the show, with an open letter. Bitter-sweet memories..
Also a recent sad news - these days Marco Hietala, the bass player and male singer of the band, announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
As I saw you really enjoyed this powerful performance of both Tarja and Marco. Hope you'll try some more.
This is your first Nightwish reaction, so it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals) - you just heard her. She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile).
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Curious fact: during this concert ("End of an Era", 'twas in 2005, and the last time they performed with Tarja) where is their version of "The Phantom of the Opera", Tarja Turunen (the amazing lady singer with magical operatic voice you just heard) was very sick with a fever and severe throat infection. She didn't even know if she'd be able to sing that night, yet she did it marvellously! So if this is not the best she can do, just imagine how damn incredible she is at her best!😍
Anyway, I see our dear friend Gabriel already summarized for you Nightwish's history, and gave you a list with many of their greatest masterpieces with performances mostly from Floor's era. So I'd like only to encourage you to keep following his list, as well as I'm adding some more NW masterworks from Tarja's era to that list (I'm more of an "old school Nightwisher" haha, but I absolutely LOVE their music in all eras with all singers, for each of them are equally talented, amazing, great artists, just in different ways and styles, who brought special, individual and unique elements to the band that helped them grow, mature and develop their artistic identity, and the whole band is amazing). I personally love the way Tarja sings it, I feel like she deeply understands the crucial importance of the instrumentals (especially the epic orchestral arrangement and choir), and the unspoken soul of the song, so she doen't sing it like it was all about her voice and it's clearly intentional; if you listen closely sometimes she even seems to use her voice like an instrument, often blending her sound with the orchestra's, becoming one living soul with the music. It's just so magical imo!

Now, since I'm also a Tarja addict😆hahaha, I followed her solo career far more closely and can assure she's been doing stunning, beautiful solo work too. To me listening to her singing and her renditions is almost a spiritual experience! She brings an ethereal atmosphere with her voice, a spiritual otherworldly magic to anything she sings, and oftentimes evokes emotions in me that come from the deepest hidden corners of my soul! I just love her so much!💘To me (and before anyone misunderstands me, I know that's ONLY about my personal preferences and how I personally feel hearing her voice and watching her performances) Tarja is special in many ways. I mean, it's not only her talent and the incredible technical control of her voice resulted from long years of full dedication and hard work, it's also her outstanding stage presence and this mesmerizing "gothic high angel/sorceress celtic goddess" kind of energy I get from her; it's her operatic, expressive, rich, strong, dark, powerful yet heavenly and pure voice; and it's the deep emotional magic she's capable of delivering through her renditions. She has always given me goosebumps all over my body within the first seconds of hearing her, bringing tears to my eyes with every breath and touching the depths of my soul💖! I feel like she put an everlasting spell on me since I first listened to her, when I was like 13 or 14! Haha. A-hem... Sorry about that😜 hahaha.
Anyway, as such a huge Tarja fan that I am, I must present you with her solo works, where she shows much more of her power imo, plus she has much more freedom since she started her solo career, she can compose and write her own songs, play piano, sing however she wants to, and just fully liberate her truest creative artist soul.
Her solo musical style is quite different from Nightwish, even still having plenty of the symphonic metal elements as guidelines such as some kinds of guitar riffs, the epic orchestral arrangements and her remarkable operatic deep vocals, but her solo work is much more versitile, she incorporates aspects of many other styles and is always experimenting new things in her music sometimes even being sort of vanguardist, AND I find it just as magnificent!! She's very unique! I love the fact that she just walked her own path and found her "artist self", never trying to copy or recreate her old days with the band, and I absolutely LOVE the results of her choices, I hope you like it too. So, here we go:

Here she sings while playing a grand piano, showing some dramatic nuances of her expression and voice, kind of "gothic vibes". She delivers such a touching, emotional and beautiful performance! It makes me shiver and cry every time! Few reactors pick this performance, but imo more should do it, it's a "forgotten" treasure! Very emotional!

It's just so gorgeous in all possible levels!💘 Plus the epic virtuosic piano line especially in the intro reminds me of Chopin and Liszt, classical composers that I love! Since Tarja is a classically trained lyrical singer (a really great one indeed!) who often performs in classical concerts, reacting to some of her classical performances would be awesome too, if you have time for it, of course haha, AND if you're into some classical music stuff as well (I love it, I'm a metalhead but also a classical musician, so.....😆). Tarja is really incredible in this one!!! It's clearly recorded from a cellphone, but the audio and image are surprisingly good! And trust me it's worth it hearing her singing this! You'll witness her dramatic, "spinto" soprano tone in full; her rendition is so intense, it gives me chills from the beginning as well as her facial expressions haha.

Another American here who's heard them for a similarly long time. I don't even remember how I found/was introduced to them, particularly as I'm not a music junkie like many people are. It's a mystery how either of us found NW in the US, but thankfully we did!

Nightwish is a Finnish band that started in 1996. The band has 9 studio albums, the first 5 were recorded with Tarja, the woman you just heard. The second vocalist is Anette, who recorded 2 albums, and the current singer is Floor, who has also recorded two albums so far. The three vocalists have completely different voices and styles, but each one is good in its own way. Because of the different vocalists, if you want to know the band's catalog, it would be nice to explore the different eras. The five albums with Tarja are influenced by Gothic metal, power metal, symphonic music and folk music. Since Anette the band has been concentrating on elements of symphonic metal and folk music. Tarja left the band in 2005, at the time when UA-cam didn't exist yet. Most of the videos of live performances with Tarja were posted by fans. Some have good recording quality, but others do not. As for Anette, despite being less old than Tarja, it is more difficult to find good live recordings from her. Regardless, Anette has a better ability in the studios than live. Floor has been an official member of the group since 2013 and it's easier to find videos of her with better recording quality. A lot of them were posted by the band itself. When reacting to Nightwish, it would be nice if you heard the versions recorded with the original singers and the current versions with Floor. The same song is quite different depending on who is singing, either because of the different voices and styles, or because of the changes that the group makes to adapt the old songs to the newer singers. Ghost love score, for example, was originally recorded by Tarja. There is a live performance of this song in this very show that you just watched (DVD End of an era). Floor also has a live performance of Ghost love score recorded in Wacken. The two versions are different, but excellent. The original version has a lot of choir, orchestra and backing vocals recorded by Tarja. In the Floor version these elements are very reduced, however, an impactful vocal section was added to the end of the song. I love Tarja's era. @@onefatasscheetah9606 the Wacken 2013 concert is legendary and considered a seminal event where by every measure all the songs performed by Floor and this amazing band are better than the originals,stay with Live performances as this band excels there and are best experienced thusly, however the latest album 2020 of Human/Nature has no Live performances as of yet but some outstanding lyric videos such as Shoemaker ,Floor has also done some incredible covers for YT recently like Alone-Heart,Adagio-Lara Fabian,Ave Maria,Oblivion and more ,and the there is her amazing performances from the Dutch tv show Beste Zangers 2019 on YT with songs Phantom of The Opera with Henk Poort,Shallow and Vilja Lied to name a few. cheers

Hello! nice to see you. You probably know that Andrew Loyd Webber (who wrote the Phantom) has a preffered phantom - Henk Poort. Who just happen to sing a version of this Hard style song - with Floor Jansen the queen of Heavy Metal who just happened to replace the former singer of Nightwish. Always skipped over this, back in the day(Nightwish fan w/ Tarja - drifted away in the Annette era) but came back, after seeing Floor's version,checked it out, & loved it . Goosebumps every time! (A frequent reaction to Floor, & Marko, but not usually to Tarja, as much as I love her voice. :) )

Marko is the darkest phantom ever , even darker than michael crawford and tarja does an excelent work but for me christine is sierra bogess not even sarah brightman or floor jansen can beat the best sierra performances ,greetings from portugal .
I respectfully disagree. Sierra has a beautiful, commutative voice but lacks Floor's Power. I guess it's what interpretation you like.
