This video is actually from the End of an Era concert in 2005. One of the best Nightwish concerts from this era.
Thanks for reaction. That was fun to watch. They both are such great singers. Classically trained Tarja with her beautiful voice and Marco with his strong rockvoice.
Marko has classical singing too and has 10/11 years on Tarja. He knows exactly what he's doing on stage. I don't think you can ever go back to anyone else's version after seeing them. I add Tarja is singing through a head cold and throat infection this night. October 21, 2005. Hartwell arena. 11500 in attendance. Helsinki Finland. Last night of the ONCE upon a tour in support of their 5th Album, ONCE. Now the concert called End of An Era as this was her last night with the band. They knew. She didn't. To say the seperation was handled badly is the short form of the novella of hurt feelings, animosity, accusations, public spectacle etc. Both sides have public statements. The letter dismissing her made public. Ugly with a capital UG.
Now Marko and Tarja mended their friendships. They have sung together since. Marko joined in 2001. Tarja is a founding member of the quartet from 1996. They both studied music in school. Both attended musical acedemies. Tarja.after Nightwish even went back to finish her masters degree. The lady on her RAW tour making up lost dates from lockdown. Finishing 3 more videos for her group project Outlanders. Where she teams up with world class musicians to make beautiful stripped down music. The videos filmed in the carribean nation of Antigua and now finishing her newest dark Christmas album in time for a December tour. Tarja works so hard and does so much. Driven. And take to heart she starts the day with a swim before breakfast. Then it's to work. She plays on stage. I don't just mean singing and keyboards. She puts her heart into the music. She is performing in every sense of the word. The warm chest voice. That head voice. She tops out her 3.5 octave range with a D5. She takes care of herself and her voice. 15 years a solo star and still reaching new heights.
One more fact, Tarja was succeeded by Annette Olzen in 2006. Who was fired in 2010 when she had to quit the tour as she went into Labour. Floor brought in as an emergency front woman. 2 years later offered membership in NW been there since. Now the fact is Tarja and Floor were friends then and are still to this day. She refuses to sing the songs aimed at Tarja. Those who know Tarja will tell you how great a human she is. Marko left last January marking 10 years since replacing 1st bassist Sammi.
Falling in love with Tarja Sussana Solie Turunen-Cabuli perfectly natural. Floor loves her too. An inspiration to each other starting out.

Tarja with that dramatic angelic voice and Marco with his growl-screams made for a lot of great songs! But Marco can also sing really well, not just distorted. And the way Tarja's last vibrato matches the exact beat of Jukka's drums?? QUEEN
Dead To The World 🎶 Live at the Summer Breeze 2002 🔥 REMASTERED is one of my favourites because here they harmonise and it just goes *so* hard, and, surprisingly well! Here Marco sings properly, and they have so much fun on stage!

My favorite performance of this song. I think it needed a grittier Phantom that Marko could provide, and the Phantom of the Opera overall I prefer a little heavier like this, as I think it was intended to have more of a "rock" element. Also Tuomos' arrangement is perfect. Let's not forget Tarja. Kind of disappointed we don't have the whole thing. This was definitely amazing!
It ranks high on my list, but I prefer the version by Floor Jansen and Henk Poort.

Like many people say the real Night wish is when Tarja was in it. Especially recorded officials are diamonds with Tarja, some live´s are not the very best cos there was some disputes before she had to leave band.

As you say, the singer is their first lead singer Tarja Turunen. The male singer is Marko Hietala, who until recently was Nightwish's bass player.
He has also been the lead singer on a few of their songs. My favorite song with Marko is the Nightwish cover of Pink Floyd's song "High Hopes", which in my eyes is even better than the original.

At one point, Marco did intend to be an operatic tenor, but was not accepted for the academy because he was already singing in a rock band.

she is Tarja (Tar-ya) Turinen......notice Captain Jack Sparrow on the front of the keyboard?....Marco kind of stole the performance.....not to be picky, nor a troll, "Phantom of the Opera" is actually musical theatre, rather than an opera.....have you seen Floor doing this song on "Beste Zangers" a Dutch tv show....she did it with Henk Poort, who was the Phantom during it's run in the Netherlands back in the day

So now you have heard Tarja and she can definitely sing. When it comes to comparing Tarja and Floor, you really can't. They both are amazing at what they do.
As you like Marco's voice so much I would suggest 3 songs for you. Nightwish tribute to Pink Floyd - High Hopes live (listen to the original first). While Your Lips Are Still Red - Live at Wembley 2015 and The Islander - Live at Tempere 2015. Also tracks sharing vocals with Floor - Romanticide + Song Of Myself - both live from Wacken 2013.

Tarja, she was the reason a lot people fell in love with Nightwish back in the late 90s or early 2000s. If you want to hear more with her, check the "From Wished to Eternity" concert from 2000. Personally i suggest you to start with :

Actually it was the songs that people fell in love with, with Tarja's voice as the icing on the cake.

Tarja Turunen (this singer) also sings very nice arias like mein herr Marquis, ave maria, or mio babbino caro etc but she also has her solo career from a rocker side and she also has another project where she mixes cold electronic tones with guitars electric for example the cover of Depeche mode "world in my eyes". in a week she is going to release something new (according to her page) and I was able to listen to some tango!! I love that Tarja is so versatile and always looking for something new to do.

Good reaction, I agree about the volume, but that doesn't take away from your reaction, keep on doing it, ignore the negatives, you are being honest and doing well.
Really enjoyed this reaction, very clean production, you definitely deserve more subs and views. If I may make 1 suggestion though, try and balance the volume for your voice and the songs volume as I had to turn youtube up to max to hear you clearly but then almost down to minimum to listen to the music comfortably.

This might well be the best rendition of this song ever.
No other phantom is as menacing as Marko here.
And I believe Tarja was one of the singers that inspired young Floor to study classical singing and not just rock/metal. Anneke from the Gathering is another one.

Yes, Marco is an amazing singer. He won the Masked Singer Finland in 2020. Check Nightwish's cover(tribute) to Pink Floyd's Gigh Hope's. There you see Marco do a solo song, and band killing it.

"Phantom of the opera", actually, is not opera. It's musical theatre.
No need for the "theatre", really. It's a musical. That's the common way of referring to this type of music. (And holy cow what a run Lloyd Webber has had... Just how many smash hit masterpieces has he composed? He's Mr Musical.)
Marko is kind of grandfather of Finnish metal. He's been a lead singer since 1984 or so and his formal training is on classical guitar. He plays both bass and guitar very well and is one of the best singers in Finland.
On Nightwish he always was the male lead singer, never a backup.
If you want to see him sing more and play acoustic guitar, try the Islander (live in Tampere) or While Your Lips Are Still Red (live in Wembley) or Weak Fantasy (live at either).
Try planet hell, slaying the dreamer, wish i has an angel, etc with Tarja and Marko. Amazing!

I actually prefer Marko's phantom in this version bc, its a sinister, haunting character, it should sing that way, not be clean and poppy sounding.

Yeah because the original book where the musical was based has him be creepy.
That's the only thing I dislike about the musical, they made Phantom some kind of romantic, misunderstood character, when in the book he was a villain

From this live DVD End of an Era - Ghost Love Score (how should be properly sang), Nemo and my favorite The Siren - yes they do exist and Tarja is one of them. I might get some folks mad about the next statement - Nightwish sound is because of Tarja, we all know the band adapt around her powerfull voice, and for someone who comes after her to replace is hard. Floor is good, but the true Diva in all the aspects is Tarja, without heavy makeup and sexy clothes - just a great voice.

This was from a concert of theirs in their home country of Finland which is why Tarja says 'Kiitos' to the crowd instead of 'Thank you' in English. It was released as a DVD called 'End of an Era' as Tarja was fired from the band just after this. Marko is a very accomplished singer - he has been in his own band called Tarot since the 80s. :)
Do note Marko's highest note was just couple of steps below Tarja. That's really bloody high for male voice, especially with that strength and grit.
And she had the flu doing this. But yes, NW is amazing. And every new member have given something new and Tuomas, the mastermind he is, have always used that new blood the best way. Greetings from Finland.
hmmm... First video watching in your channel. Nice reaction. The only - is your voice volume is so much lower than the song's, that I struggle to hear what you're saying but the music is very loud.
Rise the volume of your mic in the mix! If one hears you, ears break when music starts. or then the music is ok, but your comments cannot be heard. (Really many reactors seem to have the same problem - like you were horribly shy/not eager to let anyone hear what you say. and no, not my earphones, they are good)

Marco founded the Tarot band in 1982. He could be described as a veteran. Unfortunately he left the Nightwish band recently. Tarja is first singer Nightwish and is a soprano.

Before Nightwish, Marko had founded Tarot with his brother. He was also the main singer there. During the pandemic he left Nightwish and didn't want to make music anymore. But this year he toured Finland with All Stars Band Northern Kings and solo. We all pray he comes back to Nightwish.

I don't think Tarja was ever an opera singer. She went straight into Nightwish as her first career step and does not sing professionally in a grand opera style but more like an operetta/musical production style. I never heard of her performing in an opera.
@@TheRealRedAce It wasn't the first step in her career, from her point of view. In the first few years she says in interviews that she wants to go to the opera. Nightwish is only temporary until the actual career starts. That's why she didn't bother with the demos, but only shows up for the recordings in the studio. That's why she gets less money than the other band members.
@@Mischnikvideos But...she never went into opera. Even after leaving NW she stayed in rock. NW was her first professional music job after leaving the Sibelius Academy where she studied along with Tuomas, so it WAS the first step in her career.

@@Mischnikvideos She chose the career, but there may have been prejudice - Marco of NW originally wanted to be a classical tenor, but was refused academy training because he had already sung in a rock band, so such prejudices do exist.
Its true that ALL SM bands and singers sing "weird stuff" for a rock singer - it kind of defines the genre. Marco and Tarja sang Ave Maria together on stage, Tarja has sung classically on special occasions, Floor Jansen has sung operatic arias and other genres (Beste Zangers) etc.
I've even done them all myself, if not on such a fame level!
Come to check out Tarja; end up blown away by Marko! There were times when I thought even Floor might be the second best singer in the band😁
