Someone posted a comment on a video I saw that you can tighten up the invisibobble by putting them in hot water, and it works. Now I’m not afraid to stretch it three times over my hair because I pop it in a cup of hot water after I take it out and it goes back to its shape.
I use the Pro Hair Ties and they are AWESOME!!!! They don't slip at all (I do Irish Step dancing) and they unclamp so you don't lose any hair taking them out. I have heavy waist length hair and a tight pony at the end of the day! Still leaves a bit of a dent...but totally secure and non damaging. I bought a bunch of different colors. They were made for cheerleaders originally.
This video made me realize how much I miss running. Years ago I used to be one of those crazy people who ran 4 or 5 miles before work every morning. I ran a few 10K's and loved running. Sadly, now I suffer from severe back problems and it is all I can do to walk. Yes, the drone footage was awesome. Hubs did a good job. I am sure he was having all kinds of fun.
I wish more people talked about working out with curly hair, so glad to hear you talk about it! It’s my biggest struggle with a hair type similar to yours. I use satin scrunches and do a loose bun and the root stretch annoys me so much, but working out almost daily is super important to me so I just deal.
You are supposed to wrap it fully around as in when you bend each end they're supposed to be touching each other under each other. There are also bigger ponyos that you can use that are supposed to be better for people with dense hair
I’m an exercise specialist who trains clients and does multiple exercise classes. The best hair tie I have ever used is the goody ouchless elastic hair tie. These things last forever! I can get a decent hold with only two wraps of my hair so I hardly ever have kinking in my hair and for extra hold I wrap an additional time. If you haven’t tried them yet you should!
That drone footage is BOSS! I've seen a couple other people recommend the Pro Hair tie, and I second that! On Kayley Melissa's channel she absolutely raved about it. You can cut it to customize it, has grips, and you simply release to untether! Might be exactly what you're looking for! 😊
Super helpful! I almost bought one of these a couple of times. I'll refrain. I have no good ideas for hair ties. I just use the metal free, cloth covered elastics. Scrunchies slide out of my hair in minutes, so they're a no go.
I have 2a fine hair. Love the ponyo! I use the smaller ponyo also. It gives me the appearance of more volume and never gets loose. I guess it just depends on your hair type. You might have more success with the larger ponyo.
I’ve been using the Burlybands from Amazon for my 2b/2c hair. I have super long and super thick hair. But, I run with the Burlybands in and I really like them and they stay in!
Have you tried hair bungees? You know, a piece of elastic with two hooks on the end? You catch the hair with one end, wrap it around the ponytail as many time as you need to, and then attach it with the other hook at the other end. I find those make the best ponytails, and since you just unwrap it when you're done ... no pulling. (I don't run, so I haven't tried this for exercise, but I like these things!)
When I work out on a day that I'm not going to wash my hair I put it up in an invisibobble and then I put a bonnet over it. But, I'm not going outside for a run! I usually do a Physique 57 or a Raviana Yoga video.
I think you were being far too kind to that product 😂 I appreciate you going the extra step with the drone to show it actually slipping down. It's very helpful and kudos to your husband too for helping.
My favorite - work great while walking/jogging - Revlon Essentials Black Fabric Elastic Coils, 4 Count. I find them at Walmart for around $3.50 for 4 count. I’ve been enjoying your videos this past year; thank you!!
Idk if you have ever "medusa clipped" your hair for sleeping but that might work for you for running? Just a suggestion I thought of. I like to use claw clips when I work out more than a hair tie. Also you could cut an invisabobble and then wrap it around it's self a few times and still use it as a hair tie but it would possibly work better since you can secure it better that way. And a little claw clip underneath your ponytail may help as well
When I used to run I was like you but way longer...I always had to braid my hair. I’ve never had a holder that held, never haha 😆 French braids were my best friend.
On the subject of products that add grit to your hair, have you ever tried any sea salt spray products before? I've seen a couple posts on the curly reddit that mention how their hair curls up a lot after swimming in saltwater, so they've been using a sea salt spray to get similar results. I know when I used a sea salt spray before CGM it would give me a fair amount of grit and texture to my hair so I'm curious if a sea salt spray would add grit as well as some more curl definition.
I run with the Puff Cuff. I use the micro and put it on top of my head. I also use a buff to manage the hair that isn't long enough for the PC (my hair is just beyond chin length). My hair is coarse AND dense!
Laurie Everhardt I checked these out and they look like they’d work great, but I’m not sure which size I would need, and to get the pack with all the sizes is $50! For plastic! Oh my...
@@monas.6839 if you want it for running or exercise, I would say the smallest you can fit all your hair into. I have a second one the next size up and it would never stay in. I got a pack with two micro and one mini.
Thanks for sharing, I also use a silk scrunchie. I would love to see more videos featuring similar curly hair friendly items, showing if they work or not.
I'm so glad you reviewed this product! I wonder if you still think it works or like it just for doing cute styles for daily wear? Would you recommend it for that? I don't need it for working out, I have Very long hair so I put my hair in braids when I work out, but I've been tempted to buy it for the cute hairstyles I've seen with it. Wonder if you could give an update on that aspect and maybe recommend some cute styles you like to use it for, or if you think it just isn't worth it at all and I should save my money. Thank you! ❤😊
Love the review! I was curious about these myself. Also, loving the drone footage! Haha, my hubs loves our drone, too. He's a sunrise, sunset junkie when it's not being used for business lol. ☺️
The hair ties GIMME Bands are pretty good for not causing dents and damage! they might be a bit too thick for your fine hair and miight slip a bit, but they are the best i've found!
Have you tried velvet scrunchies? The velvet texture tends to grab the hair strands without pulling them out when I remove them. They also stretch enough to make a messy bun high atop your head so the weight of your hair won't tug on the scrunchie with every foot fall.
Yay! Thanks for answering my question on this. I’m a Texas girl with fine but dense hair, so I pretty much hang on your every word. Haha! Maybe you could try the puffcuff hair clamp next? I have been seeing this one and the one you tested advertised a lot.
Why am I hung up on changing the intro music? Probably because I’m not a runner. Check out the nylon (pantyhose style) ponytail holder. They work for me. I also normally workout in a bun and not a ponytail. My hair is nearly to my hips though so ponytails tend to pull and ruin the curl no matter what.
I had a similar issue with the Ponyo. My hair is just too slick. I got the 2.0 and it seemed to stay on better. What I've consistently used for years is the Ficcare Maximus hair clip. It is pricey, but I've had 3 for about 18 years and they still look like new (except one that the decorative coating broke off the first week). I have both the large and medium and I like them both. The medium feels better for vigorous exercise. I've dropped them, lost them under my bed, thrown it in a drawer, worn them daily when I can find them. They are really sturdy. I have fine wavy hair and it doesn't crush my curls more than anything else. I twirl my hair up and slide it in sideways (almost like a french twist). I prefer my hair not to be left out swinging so I prefer it that way, but you can do it with your loose hair at the top of your head. They have a website and are sold on Amazon.
I just use the regular pony holders and I just go carefully and slowly when taking it out. Not a lot of breakage that way. In any case I have fine medium wavy curly hair too so in order to get my hair to stay tied up while out of doors I put the pony holder on and then I carefully double it and bend my pony in half and hold it up on top of my head like a messy half bun. If I gently twist my hair in the direction it curls then when I take it down it tends to be a nice twist out and the curls are not disturbed. This method can still stretch out the crown a bit, but mine tends to be somewhat straight anyway so I'm used to it.
What a great video! Thank you so much since I was wondering the same thing too. I was wondering how does it stay in your hair on an average "I'm wearing my hair up and out of my face day." Does it stay in your hair? Inquiring minds want to know. :)
I noticed at 6:20 you pulled your hair like you would a regular hair tie to tighten it. When you with the Pony-O you actually pull it apart. Instead I pull my pony up and squish it to make it tighter.
I an a 2C/3A and I feel like its so hard not to get the top layer stretched every time I put my hair up. I do really like those spiral hair ties. My hair is super thick and the weigh of it alone makes it hard for it stay in a pony, but the coils hold them well without leaving any indentations.
Really loved the drone footage & your hair looks awesome today! And, I really like Teleties to hold my hair instead of the Invisibobbles. My hair is very much like yours, and I and the Teleties are stronger. If they stretch out, then put hot water on them, and it will go back to original size. :O)
I have been using an Invisibobble and headband to keep my hair up during my workouts and really wanted to try the Pony-O, but my hair is incredibly soft and fine so I think I'm going to skip it. Thanks for sharing!
As soon as I saw the shadow I thought, "look at you with the drone footage!". :) I often just use a hand tied elastic tie (the strip of smooth, flat elastic) - I can get it fairly tight but it doesn't pull hair since it's so smooth. But my waves are pretty loose at the crown, so I might have more stretch from it than I realize.
didn't complete the video yet but just wanted to say that I tried the original invisabobble and didn't like it .. and I tried H&M's version of the Invisabobble and I LOVE it .. it doesn't stretch out, it actually holds my hair! I hope this comment helps someone
Lower porosity hair is naturally slippery. Fine hair is naturally slippery. And wavies naturally less structure to our hairs than curlies. You were doomed from the beginning 😂😂
I use the nylon pantyhose style ponytail holders for a better hold. The nylon seems to keep the low porosity slick hair a bit better than some. That said work outs are usually in a bun.
Courtney! Thank you for all your videos. Summer is coming up and I remember last year your curls suffered from the UV exposure. Have you done research on UV Protectant products that you could share? I’ll be out in the garden this summer and would like to protect my hair. (I’ll wear a hat too). Thanks bunches!!
Love your videos! Gimme Beauty hair ties 100% all the way. They have different types and styles for all people. I love them all and so does my family. Give them a try. They are amazing. ❤️
There is a learning curve. I did see you pull your hair apart to tighten the ponytail. You can't tighten it the same way as a regular ponytail holder. Watch their IG or book a skype to chat with someone so they can show you.
I usually french braid my hair before a run, otherwise it will end up a big tangle. Is that a big nono if you're doing the cgm? And do you usually do a full wash after every run? I'm getting ready for my final wash and starting out with the CGM but I usually just wash my hair once a week and rinse it in between (like after a run), I'm wondering if just rinsing and using like a leave in conditioner will be enough... 🤔
I have super dense and long hair as well! Have you tried using clips? I wrap my hair up in a low bun and clip it in two places with small clips with the grip inside. It never rips out my hair either and stays in place when I run!
Oh goodness, I did try that once and MAN! For what ever reason the clip (even though it was clipped in the front) slipped and ripped hair so fast. Ugh I'm so so glad that works for you though.
Yeah so those ends have to be bent all the way under the ponytail towards eachother and also cant pull your ponytail tight like usual. It will loosen it. You could see that it was loose just sitting there when you touched it. Maybe adjust technique ? I have dense hair and it holds so tight it makes my head hurt lol
I just recently found your channel...love it! My hair is very similar to your sister’s (would love some more insight into her products/routines) but my sister’s hair is very similar to yours. So, it works 😁 I shared your channel with her and she’s hooked too. I did see where you sold your shirts once...is that something you would do again? I love them!
Have you tried putting your hair in a lower ponytail while you run? A lower position naturally lessens the amount of bounce and swing (at least for my hair), which should reduce the movement of your ponytail holder.
Awe those open Texas fields....loved your running footage lol!!! Such a bummer on the pony-o! I have the same trouble with pony holders and the same problem with exercising with hair touching my skin lol!!
Maybe try the PRO hair tie? They're supposed to be just like those really good ones that rip out your hair but have a clip so you can unwind it from your hair instead of yank it off. I have my doubts about how it works on a curly girl because, tangles yo.
The Pony-O definitely didn't agree with my slippery fine hair :( I like Teleties well enough, but they still slide down over the course of the day. I kept seeing ads for the PRO Hair Ties, made of silicone and they have a clasp release so you don't have to pull them through your hair. They're supposed to be popular in the cheer/gym circles because they stay well. I ordered some to try and I'm hoping these are finally my holy grail!
I am a dancer so I think I might just be doomed. My hair has to be pulled back and stay back without something big and chunky in my hair for turns, floor work, and partnering. Oh well, I guess I'm just using normal Goody non-metal hair ties for my fine hair.
Hey Courtney, thanks for sharing this! I have reciently purchased a few invisibobbles and they should be coming next week! So excited to try them! I have found the best hairstyle for me while I work out is to do a loose ponytail on the top of my head, then twist it a little and put a few small clips in to make a bun ontop my head. Or a braid, that works well too👍.
Personally i LOVE old school banana clips!! They hold everything back off my face but since the clip in and out they don't pull or tug and they don't stretch my roots out too much either. But i don't think they would be stable enough for intense cardio like running or biking, i have one bum knee so i am mostly yoga/pilates/calisthenics
Personally, I LOVE the kids version of invisibobbles (lol!) They actually grip my hair better. I think it’s because they are smaller in diameter and are actually designed for finer hair (my hair is fine). I also own the regular and the PRO invisibobbles but I find that I really do prefer the kids version! I only have to double it once to get a secure pony/bun for exercise. I also wear them at night, or even while I’m doing stuff that isn’t heavy exercise, without doubling them at all so they hold my hair in place without ever being too tight/over stretching stretching roots. I have ended up buying like 5 packs of the kids invisibobbles because I love them so much! Of note: I make a point of not wearing them on my wrist to prevent unnecessary stretching. That being said, if any of my invisibobbles do get overstretched I boil some water and drop them in for about 10 seconds, that’s all you need to shrink them back up.
Fitness instructor.. high intensity classes- like “sprawls” & lots of jumping jacks, etc. Thick thick coarse hair will not stay up. Braids seem the best so far but usually it will start coming out bc of layers & the jumping. So I end up not able to fix it bc my class is watching me. Invisabobbles end up stuck in my hair. So so bad. I don’t see how women can get buns on top of their head to stay during a workout. I have to stay low & even then 😩
I use the invisible booble for children because I have fine low density hair . I put my hair in a low ponytail and it slides to the very ends of my hair. Does anybody have any other suggestions.
Honestly, nope. The only ones that kind of work for me are the Power Invsibobbles. Otherwise, I braid my hair back - either the normal way or, if I want it off my neck, I do an upside-down braid (starting at the nape of the neck with my head upside-down) then pin the ends back onto my head.
Scrunch It Pony Holders www.scrunchitcurls.com/collections/all-products/products/large-pony-holders-2-pack Wondering if you've tried this one? It's similar to the Puff Cuff but the teeth are longer. Comes in large and small (but the small is sold out right now).
MY GIRL COURTNEY USED A DRONE!!!! That is soooo cool! Yesss Courtney! So awesome, as always
Someone posted a comment on a video I saw that you can tighten up the invisibobble by putting them in hot water, and it works. Now I’m not afraid to stretch it three times over my hair because I pop it in a cup of hot water after I take it out and it goes back to its shape.
Right! I have heated the invisibobble up a bunch of times, but it seems like they stretch right back out again right after a shrunk them up.
Drop it in ice water right after you put it in hot water. It helps harden the plastic back up.
I could even fix one after it ripped, I just melted the plastic with a candle and stuck the ends to each other.
Thank you for this product demonstration. You actually did hands-on real life demo instead of just talking about it! Amazing job as always!

Yeah, I'm with you. I just deal! I am still working on figuring out the perfect workout/hair schedule.

Fine hair is naturally slippery.
And wavies naturally less structure to our hairs than curlies.
You were doomed from the beginning 😂😂
Buahaha right?!?! Utterly doomed!
I’m a wavy, and my hair is super thick with texture. No pony is solid enough for this mane. I have to double up to get it to stay in place 😂
Ps. Invisibobbles or however they’re spelled don’t work worth a crap either for my hair :(
I use the nylon pantyhose style ponytail holders for a better hold. The nylon seems to keep the low porosity slick hair a bit better than some. That said work outs are usually in a bun.
invisaboble are fab. use hot water to re shape.....understand about the running thing
You can put the invisobobble under hot water and it will contract again.
im worried bout having to wear my hair up everyday and the CGM
Hey Courtney! What routine did you use for your intro video? Is there a certain video I can watch?
Completely un hair related, but where did you get your running shorts? They are real cute and the perfect length I have been looking for.
I hope so, I bought one!!!
I really like the pro hair tie. They have a plastic piece that you can pop out when you want to take out the ponytail so no pulling
Plus they stay in for kickboxing
I will have to look into that one!
Try the pro hair tie I'm so interested in seeing if it actually works
The Pony-O did not work for me either, it fell out even without working out. And no you dont run in a crazy way. 🙂
Have you seen the puff cuff? I’ve thought about trying the micro sized one, just to see.
I have super dense and long hair as well! Have you tried using clips? I wrap my hair up in a low bun and clip it in two places with small clips with the grip inside. It never rips out my hair either and stays in place when I run!
I love anything that clips out so you don't have to pull and stretch the hair 😍
Oh goodness, I did try that once and MAN! For what ever reason the clip (even though it was clipped in the front) slipped and ripped hair so fast. Ugh I'm so so glad that works for you though.
Yeah so those ends have to be bent all the way under the ponytail towards eachother and also cant pull your ponytail tight like usual. It will loosen it. You could see that it was loose just sitting there when you touched it. Maybe adjust technique ? I have dense hair and it holds so tight it makes my head hurt lol
Looks like you and the hubby had fun making this video. One question though - were you able to complete your scheduled run that day?
Have you tried the Puff Cuff?? It’s like a clip and hair tie hybrid!
Try the forever band by goodie they are amazing!
Hahha, yeay for Texas! LOL.
You can put the invisibobbles in hot water for 30 seconds, then pull them out and set aside, they will shrink back to normal size.
Ahhh, you beat me to it lol. I was going to say that too :)
love your videos. I watch every single one, lol. I was wondering what drone y'all used for this video?
Pop bands work for me. Not sure if you get them there?
I just put it in a French braid!
Maybe try the PRO hair tie? They're supposed to be just like those really good ones that rip out your hair but have a clip so you can unwind it from your hair instead of yank it off. I have my doubts about how it works on a curly girl because, tangles yo.
Very cool! I will check it out!
I use Pro Hair Ties and they are AWESOME. I do Irish Step dance.😁
Sounds great!
I do this too!
staying up till 1am on a school night to watch this, lol
Where do you go to school???
I thought all US schools were closed...
Randi Poe maybe he/she has online school in the morning? :)
Curlfriend Collective makes the best scrunchies an TIY are good too the TIY are used by gymnasts/athletes.🙂
Have you tried the pro hair tie?
Fitness instructor.. high intensity classes- like “sprawls” & lots of jumping jacks, etc. Thick thick coarse hair will not stay up. Braids seem the best so far but usually it will start coming out bc of layers & the jumping. So I end up not able to fix it bc my class is watching me.
Invisabobbles end up stuck in my hair. So so bad.
I don’t see how women can get buns on top of their head to stay during a workout. I have to stay low & even then 😩
Have you seen Pro Hair ties???
I just order some. I'll let you know how they work...
Does anyone know if - Garnier Pure Clean Finishing Paste is CGA? I can’t find a definite answer.
Have you tried the Puff Cuff? I'm curious about it.
I have tried that, and it slips out of my hair too....bummer!
I had the exact same issue that it slips out. I don't run and it slowly slips out.
Is that a drone camera? You're now a level 100 UA-camr 😂
Probs to the husband for the filming👌🏻
Have you tried Maui Moisture?
do a full wash day using AG hair products!!
Have you tried puff cuffs? I have not, but I've been curious!
Yes, I have tried them, and they slip out of my hair too...rats!
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney Same for me. I have thin, fine hair and I bought the micro and it's still too big and slips out.
Scrunch It Pony Holders www.scrunchitcurls.com/collections/all-products/products/large-pony-holders-2-pack
Wondering if you've tried this one? It's similar to the Puff Cuff but the teeth are longer. Comes in large and small (but the small is sold out right now).
