I like your theory on how universal translators work, mostly because if two aliens are talking about humans they might say "Oh, that's a Human. They're from Human III."
Since the official name of our system in Star Trek is Sol and Earth is also known as Sol III, calling our species Solians rather than Humans would be the logical option.
The Barzan still got the benifits of the Wormhole sale though, the Federation were gazumped and another power bought the rights to the Wormhole _before_ it's shortcomings were discovered.
For the next poll: Oh Boy, the Bothans. It's so hard to not judge a species when there representative on the New Republic Council was as 'nice' a guy as he was. You said that the wormhole was to the Gamma quadrant but it was the Delta quadrant that the Ferengi were sent to and later found in by Voyager. The episode in question is "False profits" where Voyager finds them in the Delta quadrant.

Maybe Barzan is a Class M world and it's not a different gas in the atmosphere but some sort of airborne life, like fungal spores or something along those lines that accounts for the green atmosphere. So the planet could be Class M and only hazardous to most humanoids due to a type of life on the planet that the Barzan people have evolved to live in a symbiosis with. Their breathing apparatus cold be providing them with something they usually get from breathing the spores (or whatever it is). I'm sure there are many Class M planets that are hazardous to most humanoids due to some form of life found on them.
with the planet classification. i would suspect that M class was added as the planet was able to spawn a highly developed and advanced intelligent space fairing race. its just that there is something intrixic to the planets nature that dose not agree with most humanoid speices but is passive or not a hidrance to the natves as they evolved with in it. its honestly surprising that more planets arent like this. well maybe we are but we never hear about them after all earth's nature might be perfect for us but god knows what werid gasses or liquids or what have you that other speices have evoled to breath. and even if the same mix is fine for 99% of other species their might be one race out there that say, when water contacts their skin it burns them like asid did i, in the year 2022 just defend signs..no but you thought that i did, didnt you?

It was great to see the Barzans get a little bit of Development in Disco and moving up from a one-time only seen species.
I didn't know much about the Barzan so this was very informative.
I am so glad when other species are fleshed out more. Many are just waiting for someone to tell their story.
Benzite for the next index video. Thank you for all you do!
Finally more trek

Ok so honestly I really look forward to these videos. Probably my favourite series

Barzan from Barzan II

Nice short round up. I hope we will see more of this people in future Trek.

The Barzan wormhole lead to the Delta Quadrant (voyager) not the Gamma quadrant (until it was destabilised by the Ferengi).
toxic but not lethal unless constant exposure reminds me of nitrogen, which alkso reflect a crapton of green light
Rick,
You did a great job fleshing out the Barzan. There was just one error: the Barzan wormhole leads to the Delta quadrant, not Gamma.
it likely leads to both as it swings around the Galaxy on that end
I did catch that too. But wasn't sure if he screwed up or if Voyager did with that episode with the Ferangi

I'm curious about the Bothans more so than the Benzites. But both are interesting.
Pretty unique breathing apparatus.
The Barzan wormhole would still be valuable. Unmanned science drones and/or generational ships for colonization would still be feasible.
I thought the Barzan wormhole went to the Delta Quadrant
I wonder how many deep range scout probes star fleet sent through that wormhole. Imagine being able to get out in front of deep space exploration
Bothans next!
Can you do the Illyrians now that Una Chin-Riley from Strange New Worlds was stated as one?

Nah but their pasta is amazing
A species that requires trace amounts of chlorine to survive. Interesting
