Joe, your channel is changing my life (sincerely). I was completely sedentary and after trying so many sports and activities I though that nothing was making me really happy. Once I discovered your channel I said: this is what I want for me. And so did I. I'm super happy camping outside and even happier by learning things with you. Thanks a lot man. You seem to be a very nice guy. A super friend! Thanks!
Wesley Alves Was it easy to get into? I've been dreaming of camping overnight like this one day, wish my family was a lot more into camping and nature. The only time I camp is when my friends family invites me out to camp in an RV on RV parks. Did you spend an exorbitant amount getting into this? Is it something you needed to put a lot of funds aside to pursue? Thanks!!
You inspired me to go camping solo - and I did it for the first time this past weekend on my motorcycle and it was amazing. THANK YOU for your passion for this. I've learned so much.
Joe- I know what it takes to film / tape / record this....the setting up ... you really do that well ...then edit it ! I understand why pt2 is still in progress . Amazing and we love it . Thank you.
Dude I love the walking shots you set up. They're always so beautiful and well planned out. Nice work! Love all your vids! Lifetime viewer right here 👈🏻
Cameron Reid - Makes a HUGE difference in quality....I find because of empathy these person centric vids allow us to more easily envision ourselves in such a "scene"....he does well at those "moment" shots.
Joe, I'm a new subscriber - love your videos buddy, you have some fantastic country around you (UK is so small!)...if you're interested I have a tip for your beer that I use when me and my son go camping, if you spin the ring pull around on the can (so it doesn't pull open) and tie some cordage to it you can anchor the can to a tree and let it dangle in running water without worrying about it floating away - the can also gets colder much quicker too due to the running water 👍 keep up the good work!
I appreciate your honesty man, I think that's why so many of us are here. When you don't pretend to be a tough guy when no one else would notice- that's what a real tough guy does.
Ethan Adams lol is your profil the real you or what lol but I just love your profil and im british but I like to spell british like B r I d I s h bridish br id I sh bridish
Big Joe... I loveitt that you so stoked over rain and thunder and lightning and stuff. Idk why so millions of people donot like stormy cool elements. I listen to GOD speak to me through the rain...and it is BEEUTIFUL!
I work full time, so i don't get any time in the woods anymore. I make sure I watch your videos so I can still feel like I'm there again :). Thank you Joe.
Retired infantryman here. Love your gear and field craft skills. You should do a series on land navigation, orienteering and post trip clean up recovery.
It's a great day today, looks about as nice a day as that day. But I'm stuck in a subdivision surrounded by highways and buildings. At least I can watch you have fun out in the wilderness.
Boss Hogg. Yup. I'm not in a city, per say, but it is a very urban area. I'm about 30-40 miles away from a decent patch of woods. And, well, I don't drive.
Wow my friend I have a few years on you. Your last comment was out of place. There are kids here on this forum. Your colorful language or "Judgment" is not required here..
Rest easy Navy Davy, unfortunately the hubris of the uneducated is astounding in this one. Nothing defines a definitive argument like conjunctions, a myriad of punctuation mistakes, and broken sentence structure while operating under the guise of free speech, and attempting to repress another's view. Toting human communication, one can very easily ascertain that his ability to present a cognitive representation without resorting to primitive vernacular speaks to the value he has as a person. The silver lining amid the very essence of his construct being that his extraordinarily limited perception will gratefully die with him.
I think he is in the wrong place to express these views. Joe does a great job of producing videos that are educational. I've been a long time viewer of joe and family. I started to ,ake a few videos my self, mainly of church services so those who could not attend the services would be able to watch on-line. I was disabled at work and have has four operations over the pas t 20 months. I don't think I'll ever be able to walk again like a normal adult. I watch Joe's videos because I wish I had taken my life in a different direction and been more like Joe. As my screen name claims I served in the U.S. Navy for twenty years. I went around the world four times. After twenty years I retired with four children who didn't even know me. I had been at sea 15 years 6 months out of the twenty years served. My first wife had died of cancer and right at the end of my Military service I lost my five year old daughter in a fire. I respect Joe for spending time with his wonderful wife and daughter , taking them out on camping trips and just spending time with them. Joe emulates the kind of guy one would like to have as a friend. Weather he tells someone God bless you or not is not up for debate. If you are looking for a discussion board based with the losers in Barkley CA. I was raised right across the bay in the Mission District of San Francisco CA. Get over your bad self. This is a family friendly zone. Join Joe as he adventures out taking us along. Buy and save a beer so as he drinks his you can join him and be there with him. I beg of you keep the language clean and the hating down. This will be the last time I broach this subject. May the Lord Jesus bless all who come to this site and watch the videos. God has given Joe a talent and he shares it with us all. ENJOY.
Hi Joe, I recently found your site. I sit in an office and so appreciate your videos. Thank you for taking the time to share your camping trips with us. I really like the way you set up the camera and we can see you walking or when you pan around and share the things that you see with us. You teach me things, well sort of. I'm sure I would not recognize a beaver that chomped on a tree, but I enjoy you sharing those things with us. You are full of knowledge and you share it. The first time I went camping I went with a group called "Mosaic". It was in Florida. we Canoed up the Swanee River. We had our stuff in plastic bags and would camp out at one spot and move on to another one the next day. We did some mean camping!! It was a first for me so I really wasn't prepared and I wasn't use to not having a bathroom. My friend had given me an air mattress that did not work. So I was pretty miserable on my first night. It was also cold. I had a headache and was constipated (hey you share your stuff!!). I wanted to go home. I remember sharing the canoe and telling the person to just leave me off somewhere so I could go back home!! The second night some folks took care of me. I shared a tent so I wasn't so cold and I was given aspirin (had a major headache) and finally went to the bathroom. What a turn around. In the morning I was looking for wood for the fire. I ended up having a good time!!! So I found out that I liked camping!!! It has been a long time. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I also like when you take Scout. He is such a good dog. You are good with him. It 's nice to see. Sheila
Hey Joe, just found your videos and enjoying them a lot. Wanted to give a hammock noob some tips on hammock sleeping to make your nights more comfortable: First off the type of hammock you have is called an Asym - they are designed to be slept in diagonally, with your head at one of the bungie tied outs (the bungies not only widen the hammock but they stop it rocking too much in high winds) and your feet at the other, gives you a flatter, more comfortable position. Secondly, tie a small piece of paracord around the tie up ropes just before they meet the hammock material at each end and hang the loose ends downward, these act as drip lines to stop rainwater running off the trees, down the ropes and soaking into the ends of the hammock. Lastly, a cheap fleece / flock picnic blanket with a waterproof backing makes a great hammock 'rug', tie thin bungie cord to two opposite corners of the blanket and the other ends to the furthest points of the ridgeline, then put your mattress on top of it to hold it in place. It should lie in the hammock diagonally in a diamond shape. It lines your hammock with cozy fleece and stops those horrible cold moments in the middle of the night when your arm or shoulder come into contact with chilly hammock nylon :) Stay safe guy
Great video. I love watching Joe. It's especially refreshing when he could care less about the weight of an item like a lot of hiking UA-camrs and ounce counters. I get so tired of hearing about load outs and gear shakedowns it's almost sickening sometimes. Go Joe 👍
I think that you watched Shug too much!! LOL We have been using hammocks for almost two years now. I always leave the stuff sack on the suspension. Nice setup! I use down quilts from Enlightened Equipment. Good quality and price! You can come and join us on an adventure in the U.P. of Michigan! Anyway another excellent video Joe! Bob
Am missing your live broadcast due to life schedules. Feel like we're missing much of your great bushcraft info.. Plz video your live shows and allow the rest of us to gain/enjoy your expertise 😎
Hi Joe....I love your videos...I'm 70 years old but have done a lot of backpacking in these years. Listen, if you can could you make sure your vids are closed captioned for those of us that are dear or hard of hearing.... It makes them especially enjoyable when we can understand the points your trying to make. You make me feel like I'm out there with you. Thanks again, William
this is awesome love the videos ,, I only watched a few but I like how u keep the silence of the forest and don't add music ,, im subscribed now, what won me over is the education that's involved , I learn a lot just by watching
As soon as I save up enough money to buy a car I’m driving to my states hiking trails going off trail and doing a weekend camp with my dog.. love you joe your videos are therapeutic and inspiring!
Your videos are what i needed. I love the outdoors. I'm learning so much from your videos. I thank you Joe. I'm anxious to apply what i've learned from your videos for the first time this winter.
enjoyed your video Joe. I have a question for you. Do you carry a tourniquet on your person when using an axe or hatchet? If you don't, you may want to get one and practice using it with one hand. If you have to go looking for one in your ruck or tent etc. you can pass out from blood loss and have a bad day. Just a hint for guys that use axes and hatchets, chainsaws and such. Ray....Oklahoma
Ray getoutdoors If Joe cut an artery on this trip for example (depending on where artery is located / and severity) could prove fatal even with a tourniquet. If he hacked his leg especially femoral artery that's a stat (emergency) situation and he could abate the hemorrhage w/a tourniquet and walk. Best case scenario if he did is a Satellite phone and emergency provider could get to him quickly. I've had to deal w/a few arterial hemorrhages in hospital under the best of situations and even then it can be dicey dealing with them.
Amanda, Your right about cutting the femoral artery. If you carry a tourniquet on your person when using sharp cutting tools at least you have a fighting chance if a artery is cut. You should practice using it that way you know what to do if it really happens. There are many examples on the internet of real life situations where a tourniquet saved a life.
I've spent a lot of years in various hammocks under all sorts of weather conditions. I started using a hammock as my primary camp when I was about 12 in 1972. I was using a surplus Vietnam era jungle hammock. I used that particular one or one like it for years. Great on the motorcycle, great on the trail. I have a nice ENO nest with rain fly and bug netting now. In warm weather, you don't need the insulation; it's really bulky if it's good. Those insullated under layers make a LOT of difference when the temps start to creep down towards 0 C. It can give you at least 3 seasons of use. I wouldn't want to try it in the dead of winter in -10 C even with an arctic bag and an underlayer but I've been nice and toasty in the late fall.
I personally am not a fan of a flat lay... I prefer a voluptuous one.. Also, now when I watch old videos and you talk about (or I see) scout, it makes me so sad.
Joe, your channel is changing my life (sincerely).
I was completely sedentary and after trying so many sports and activities I though that nothing was making me really happy.
Once I discovered your channel I said: this is what I want for me. And so did I.
I'm super happy camping outside and even happier by learning things with you.

Hammock tip for ya Joe: toss your pack in the hammock when you're setting up in the wind like that! No more parachute sail syndrome.
Spoken like someone from the Plains.
But wouldn't that just create more of the tension he's fighting against when tightening that berry?
gyffes gyffes lol he slept in the hammock
And use the stay lines LOL
I just bring a folded up glad bag(heavy duty plastic garbage bag) great for keeping gear dry. 👍
Dude I love the walking shots you set up. They're always so beautiful and well planned out. Nice work! Love all your vids! Lifetime viewer right here 👈🏻

Joe Robinet it always amuses me that you have to cross every stream twice to get your camera back !
Joe Robinet that's true but don't over do it either
Cameron Reid - Makes a HUGE difference in quality....I find because of empathy these person centric vids allow us to more easily envision ourselves in such a "scene"....he does well at those "moment" shots.

Joe’s A.D.D kicks in, “okay, I ‘m gonna make a bow and I need to... Squirrel! Eagle! “

In the calm before the storm! Another legend will be born!
The best vids are when you build a cozy shelter with your dog and feed him meat treats.
In fact you could probably sit in a motel room with the heat cranked and feed him beef treats and it would be equally satisfying.

Albert Draper same
Scout liked this comment.

when we see hawks flying over us in Aotearoa (New Zealand) it means our ancestors are looking over us...Its a good sign of protection :-)
So your ancestors are not in heaven or hell? Now there hawks flying in the sky? Really, where do you get this information?

Hey Joe, just found your videos and enjoying them a lot. Wanted to give a hammock noob some tips on hammock sleeping to make your nights more comfortable:
First off the type of hammock you have is called an Asym - they are designed to be slept in diagonally, with your head at one of the bungie tied outs (the bungies not only widen the hammock but they stop it rocking too much in high winds) and your feet at the other, gives you a flatter, more comfortable position.
It lines your hammock with cozy fleece and stops those horrible cold moments in the middle of the night when your arm or shoulder come into contact with chilly hammock nylon :)

Your videos are what i needed. I love the outdoors. I'm learning so much from your videos. I thank you Joe. I'm anxious to apply what i've learned from your videos for the first time this winter.
Got a laugh out of me when you cross the log and look back and think I gotta get the camera

The gortex cover for the mss bag is the answer to conduction when sleeping in the old hammock. This works great!
Love the stuff that you and hidden woodsmen are creating together! I will have this or the scout pack. Keep up the great work Joe!
"Urine is the spice of life" 10/10, best moment on this channel.
enjoyed your video Joe.
Ray getoutdoors what is a touriqeut? does it stop bleeding?
Ray getoutdoors nevermind, just googled it, however that seems like a pretty desperate measure
have you ever cut into an artery? You have a few minuets to stop the bleeding before you pass out. If your by yourself, you die.
Bro how do you keep your knives so sharp?
Its been 5 years already since i first watched this video, from that day on i was hooked by your vids man good luck God bless!
I wouldn't want to try it in the dead of winter in -10 C even with an arctic bag and an underlayer but I've been nice and toasty in the late fall.
ive been wondering for a long time now, what brand is that hoodie you are wearing, I cant find any slim fitting hoodies like that one
Can of Feesh it's not slim fit he is just too skinny . ;D
Judging by the logo, Mountain Warehouse.
OH new tattoo like it.
I personally am not a fan of a flat lay... I prefer a voluptuous one.. Also, now when I watch old videos and you talk about (or I see) scout, it makes me so sad.
