Not taking anything away from the brilliant world record tour in 589 days, but for an even more amazing real two-up adventure, get your hands on a copy of the book (I got mine on Ebay) "Two-Up" By Scooter to Australia. In 1957, Michael Marriott and his wife Nita rode their NSU 150cc Prima scooter from England, through West and Eastern Europe, Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan to India and Sri Lanka. then Perth to Sydney to Darwin. No internet, no communications, on a 150cc two stroke scooter. That that is a feat that should be remembered. A cracking read.
In 2018/9 I rode my V Strom 650, two up around the world, at the age of 63. I did 43,000 miles in total, as I had to finish the last 5000 in 2022 due to breaking my collarbone in Kazakhstan.
Wow - what an adventure!
Too bad we can’t have noise restrictions for politicians.
Or fit silencers to them 😂
And woman!
Laugh out loud.
Didn't know Mat had passed I was aware he was battling the terrible disease from some of the past bike show episodes, sad news RIP Mat.
So glad you said you didn’t know about Dave’s ride out. I thought I was the only one! I was gutted when I found out and would’ve gone as well.
Me too… diary note for next year..must be another one for the good causes.
Sad news about Mat. The Bike Show wasn't one of my mainstays, but I did binge watch it periodically. I knew he was quite sick, but hadn't heard that he'd passed. Condolences to his friends and family. Thanks for the update.
Yes he was a nice fella, very sad to learn of this.
I feel more and more disenfranchised from a world of motorcycling where £15k to £16k is considered ‘good value’. Good value is my Super Meteor 650 circa £6k, why spend nearly three times that (or more). I just don’t understand it.
Where I live a lot of idiots have basically removed their silencer with illegal rear pipes. It's spoiling being able to change the sound of a bike for the rest of us. Something has to be done against the idiots giving biking a bad name.
Totally agree !
Then, many bike enthusiasts across europe, seem to be baffled (no pun intended) when their access to trails and countryside tracks is prohibited 🚫.
Louder the better
One of the things i notice most in Europe, is the lack of noise from Cars & Motorcycles alike. In the UK every other Car & Bike, sporty or not has some ridiculous exhaust.
Here in commiefornia a great many bikes and more than a few cars/trucks are stoooooopid LOUD! FTN.
SS
@@BrianMcCann421 Really? What’s the logic there?
I am looking forward to more of your tours, particularly liked the Alaska and Japan trip as the scenery and your commentary was superb and not forgetting bike scran which we can all relate to.
14:50 I like the letter about the TT. The author is spot on.
Agreed….
For £20 you can sign up for the TT tv channel coverage…bit too much chat for my liking but great camera work and racing coverage.
It’s always been the same with regards to the TT, even in the 80’s there was never any main stream interest, even having camera crews on the island filming crown green bowling whilst the TT was on! Big up to the Manx government now streaming everything, I now live in Australia and watch it every year!
Andy, you continuously help to save me £3.25 and effectively contribute to me going paperless! It's a win-win! Cheers 🍻 😂
was lucky to hear about Dave Day was the best ride out ive ever had to Barrow in Furness it was reported 200,000 people lined then route cheering all the bikes on was deeply moving
When it comes to rating bikes , it’s only the owners rating of a bike & what it’s worth to them that really counts .
But owners tend to justify their purchase
@@droommotor Why would an owner need to justify any purchase to anyone . They are the ones that’s purchasing & riding the bike. By them doing so they have obviously justified it to the only person that matters ,themselves . What others think is of no relevance .
@@maskedavenger2578Some people do. Ive seen several bikes that were complete shit. But new owners went to great length to justify their purchase.
@@droommotor Complete sh💩t maybe in your eyes , but not apparently in the eyes of the beholder , the persons that purchased them . They probably reckon your choice is an even bigger crock of sh💩t , why should anyone have to justify their purchase to anyone .
@@maskedavenger2578unfortunately a Lot of them do.
There are loud bikes that are an obnoxious intrusion on the road to be sure, I’m not opposed to the idea of noise cameras, but I’m pretty sure there’d be a greater number of large trucks that’d exceed the threshold settings for noise. And for that I for one would be greatly appreciate seeing cited for noise violations and orders to repair.
Noise cameras may not be a big thing yet, but I think they will be coming. I live in Hathersage in the Peak District, and they announced just today that the council are looking into having one installed, pretty much at the end of our drive. I'm not surprised though, I live about 200 yards from where the 30mph switches to a 60mph straight, and on a weekend it does get annoying listening to bikes either screaming off down the 60 stretch, or doing rev bomb down changes as they slow (too late) for the village.
Love the monthly bike news, a great way to start my early morning with Mrs H in bed and our 2 dogs asleep on the sofa next to me, meaning no interruptions haha. Condolences to Mat's family and friends, far to young. Can't wait to see your 'tarting up' of the GS, I get the feeling that bike could be a constant tennant of your garage. I hope you both enjoy the ABR festival.
Always one of my favourite programmes on the channel. Hope you have a great time at the ABR Festival.
cant beat morning hot bevy and Bike News!!!! thanks Andy!
My pleasure!
Love the Bike News!! Hope you have a fab time at the festival, Andy!
Cheers Jez - here now and having a great time!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Wish I could be there - moving house!! Enjoy!
Steel frames and twin cylinder engines dont make a SuperSports bike. At least the Honda CBR 600R and Kawasaki ZX6R have 4 cylinder engines and alloy frames. I'll be keeping my 2002 ZX6R, fun and reasonably comfortable.
Great news that you’re keeping your GS, newer isn’t always better.
I heard about the big ride for Dave Myers on Facebook sadly I couldn’t go as too far on my classic 350 not yet run in , lovely man he will be missed. The news you bought up about noisy bikes ? I do like nice sounding bikes as I’ve just bought the DNA air filter for my Enfield classic 350 as it deepens the sound but not too loud . But I have to say when I’m in bed late at night I get woken up by very loud bikes so that’s annoying and I think it would be very uncomfortable on long rides to have such a noisy bike . I do have to say though Harleys and the Indian are very nice loud , I have a Harley dealer just round the corner from me. In fact Enfield dealers could no find me a halcyon green classic 350 but Harley found one straight away so they will looking after my bike and a great bunch of people they are. I didn’t know that Harley has an Enfield section in some of there dealers. Looking forward to you touring videos this summer and test rides thanks 😊🏍️
Andy just a message about your garage torque after watching it and your comments about your custom bike it reminded me of a bike I sold 18 months ago Trident with a green gold one off paint job. I went on autotrader and found my bike available to buy at a garage near me and it is now back in my garage😊. Thanks Mike ps love your bike as well🏍️
Matt's passing - I had no idea. That is indeed sad news. I enjoyed his motorcycle reviews with his particular brand of humor while doing them. Rest In Peace, Matt. I rest well deserved.
Whilst I appreciate bikes can be too loud, my own personal noise bugbear is people who bring yappy dogs into pubs, drives me mad
but of course nobody's allowed to criticise dogs nowadays.
Don’t get me started! (I’m not a dog lover either…)
They can be a right pain when it spots another dog and they start barking on. The owners are to blame for not controlling them
Then again other people have badly behaved kids, the owners are to blame too.....
Dogs bark, it's what they do but owners need to train them to be quiet when told. Unfortunately no one seems to train the idiots on noisy motorcycles.
Oh, good! Really looking forward to those trip videos from Wales!
Coming soon!
Thank you so much for this review and, this time, a special thank you for remembering Matt Durrans. A really great bike journalist and a passionate rider, I’ll be missing him a lot. ✌️
'Dave Day' was awesome!
Looking forward to the shotgun review.
Having test rode almost all of the Royal Enfield's the shotgun is by far my fave of the bunch!
Bikes are taken off the road instantly in Germany and Austria now if you fail a noise test, they are very active on the B500 with all aftermarket parts checked for E marks and you must carry the paperwork to prove the parts are approved, this includes braided brake lines and footpegs as well as exhaust systems all of these will get your bike impounded if not compliant.
@@williamcoulter5462 The TüV system in Germany is great as all the aftermarket equipment you buy is approved and you have the paperwork to prove it.
Cars in the uk seem worse than bikes now. The boy racers all have pop pop back firing exhausts and some of them are now incredibly loud like a shot gun being fired. Are these toss pots ever prosecuted?
Seems a bit draconian to me ..not a model we should be pursuing 😮
Who else watches the parish notes hoping for another biker scram announcement?
Me! 😋
Not aware of any sound cameras in Suffolk and Norfolk, and although I'm biased don't think its an issue in my rural area. Street triple rules 😂, Cheers Andy, RIP Matt and Dave.
Morning from Germany....
The noise issue here is always a bone of contention....
We have lovely roads shut to bikes over weekend periods, and if the bike is stopped by the police and it's too loud, they will seize it till the appropriate exhaust is fitted...😳
Morning!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Shouldn’t that be Guten Morgen.
Thanks for this TMF. It’s the first I’ve heard about “noise cameras”! Don’t think there are any in the north east 🤞
Love the garage / DIY videos, don't forget to add in some funny music 😄
That 23 Grand Harley just looks the type of bike for tackling Wyrnose and Hardnott passes, that is if you want to get killed.
I hope you do more classic bikes. I love those the most.
Great news round up, as always! I will hopefully see you at the ABR this weekend for a chat 👍
We’re already here - it’s going to be a great weekend!
I'd like the R20 if it were refined. The R100T was a bit of a tractor compared with the R60/6. Noise on a village crossroads, surrounded by houses, shops, a major tourist gateway to islands (that you know), it's like a Sturgis Rally, but _every engine_ sounding like a dumper truck, mixed with local teen's pretend NASCAR. Some of us need to work. Surrounded by magnificent, empty roads, *but,* folk 'express themselves' _all over the village_
Good to see you.
Interesting episide as ever. Love to see your take on the Ducati supermoto if & when you get the chance. Also looking forward to your opinion on the Daytona 660 & why you prefer the GSX8R as I came to the same conclusion. Shame about the Scrambler 1100. Great engine & a classy bike. I get the noise thing but noise caneras sound like a rather dismal addition to the existing road furniture. Also looking forward to your MT-09 SP & Duke 390 rides as well as a bit of biker skran too.
Hi TMF! Enjoying your bike news video(June), you’d mentioned you did a tour of Wales was that you pulling out of the Shell petrol station by the “Waterloo “bridge Betws y Coed?? on the Gold Wing with Mrs Flyer and friends ??????.I pulled up behind you on my MT09 with the wife on pillion thinking he looks familiar!!!😂but you were pulling away before I could give you a thumbs up ..Hopefully see you in beautiful Wales again soon ,loving the channel 👍-Bryn (Abergele)
Yes - that was us, sorry we missed you!
I used to own a very loud bike - straight through megaphone exhaust in a xv950r and some people told me it was the loudest bike they had ever heard. I honestly can’t say now what I saw in it - I wore ear plugs and I feel embarrassed to think how annoying it must have been. It failed the MOT and I had to get a baffle made - it was still very loud, though. I agree that noise should be restricted. Someone always puts his bike on the red line at the lights about 1/4 mile from my house and I have got pretty tired of that. So… apologies everyone and I have grown out of it… I like a grunty exhaust as much as the next rider but the introduction of noise cameras would not upset me.
Love the R18 s looks
I have the street triple R MY2023. After watching the lengthy comparison on MCN (UA-cam) i bought one and it is a superb bike for road riding. Track isn’t for me at the moment but I am assured by MCN the R is just fine!
Sold my Striple 675R recently and I'm still a little tearful. I needed a better bike for touring and the Z1000sx does a fantastic job so it was a good decision......but the heart still longs for the Striple. Perhaps one day ill have both 😅
Motorcycle noise can be a problem. I used to live very close to the Eifel in Germany and spend a fair amount of my spare time enjoying the roads there on two wheels and four. If I went on a Sunday or a Bank Holiday I would often take my car as on those days quite a lot of the better roads were closed to motorcycles. Inconsiderate bikers had spoiled the roads for the rest of us. It’s always been a mystery why so many bikers need extra loud pipes, they rarely hear their own exhaust note which is left behind them and so many people wear earplugs they hear even less. I do most of my riding these roads on quieter back roads and trails where quite often often the quieter you can pass through the better. Having said that both the bikes I’ve bought recently have characterful exhaust notes without ever being too loud. Even do the owners’ pages for both are always full of people asking for recommendations for louder pipes. I know a few people near me who have had their track days ruined because the local tracks are getting very tight on noise.
I have seen how the police are clamping down on them and they are taken off the road on the spot if caught with loud exhausts or non E marked parts on the bike , we need the UK to catch up.
Interesting stuff. Look forward to the new financial year and more bike reviews. How about doing a CFMoto 450 adventure bike review; as light and has a 270 degree crank?
Another good review of the papers Andy see you and carol at the ABR 👍
Will do!
If they tried to limit noise levels in North America there would be a huge revolt as there would be no Harleys left on the road 😅
Ther have been rumors that LA is looking into them. Also, you have to remember that there not just for loud motorcycles.
@@Hooner77 I completely agree with the concept. You have the right to make as much nouise as you wish, so long as you are not impacting others around you who are no interested in hearing it.
Cheers for this Andy, it's something I look forward to each month as I don't buy MCN 🙈. I agree with your view on the 5* markings and IMO they'd be much better splitting things out into sections giving each one a score out of 10 then adding them up to give a total to provide some seperation. This should include the price too as putting the Triumph and the others up against the Ducati which costs half as much again seems a bit ridiculous as someone looking to but the V2 is unlikely to consider the Trumpet and vice versa, but ho hum that's MCN!
Could it be they don’t want to upset the manufacturers and the ad revenue..just sayin…
So sad Matt passed away! Loved his show too!
HD CVO is the standard same model with all the optional extras. Possibly the paint job is the unique for the money?
I have only seen a couple of the R-18's since they came out, but literally dozens of the K16 GTs riding around here in British Columbia. I can't imagine an R20 ever being popular. As a Ducati owner since '06, I love the brand, and would love to see what you have to say about the Desert X.
I shall see what I can do!
I bought my first bike in 1976 and have years of motorcycling goodness under my belt. Even I can't avert my eyes when a story appears about idiots chasing a big cheese roll down a hill.
Looking forward to the CF Moto and Royal Enfield reviews. Both bikes on my short list and I value your input greatly as I evaluate the bikes for possible purchase.
I’ve just double checked the calendar and June isn’t over yet! I hope not anyway as I’d have missed the ABR Festival. Looking forward to winning the pub quiz!
Good luck with it -we’re on site now, it’s going to be a great weekend!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Can you recommend anything I should be revising?
By-the-by, the cheese rolling takes place at Coopers Hill in Gloucestershire, and yes it does get way more press than it deserves.
Prefer this outro music to the 'hey kids we're the Missenden Fliers ' one.
Thank you - I shall gradually change over to the new music in my videos…
Agree re Street Triple. . Hence I bought one! Massively competent bike! But equally can sit on most of the day and potter if so inclined! But I also agree the V2 looks beautiful. .
Last year I was chucked off a Rocket 3 at 80 mph at Bonneville Salt Flats without any skids on my feet 😄 It might not be 160 mph but maybe I might earn extra credit for being able to land my leg back on the bike as we both came to a halt.
Yikes!
I hit a deer on a Rocket III Touring…the deer succumbed…the bike was totaled. I got scraped up but good yet nothing broken.
Noise cameras are used in Knightsbridge mainly for boy racers in Lamborghinis. There are warning signs in the vicinity.
I wish Ducati would put the hypermotard in a low seat bike, something similar to the Himalayan .Great video TMF👍👌
Thank you!
I'm looking at getting a Triumph Street Triple RS early next year, but the current Yamaha MT-09 SP has also taken my fancy. I'll be good to hear your views on which you think is the better bike. The Triumph Street Triple RS is going to be hard to beat in the handling stakes. Also, reviewers like Neevesy (MCN chief road tester) and Chopsy, are always complaining that the brake-feel on Japanese bikes is a bit disappointing when compared to European bikes. But, I think it'll be a very close-run thing, as the Yamaha MT-09 SP looks like an excellent bike for the price. So, as always, I'm looking forward to your honest review. 👍
Try before you buy.
@@russcattell955i Wise words, but it's easier said than done, sometimes you can't get a demo, but I know what you mean. Even when you do, it's usually only an hour's ride, and personally I don't think you can really get to know a bike until you've done a good few hundred miles on it.
How will the noise cameras work someone will have to find out the noisiest production bike and set the limit just above that.
I’m looking forward to those bike reviews
It's like everything horses for coarses,,not everyone likes every type of motorcycle 🏍️,, but we choose the type of bike we are attracted to at the time,,so my K6GSXR and SV 1000 suit me,,☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️as long as you get a buzz then get a few 😊😊 from northern Ireland,,

As an R9T gen 3 owner and someone who has been tempted by a Rocket 3, I would love to see an R20 come to the UK.
Torque over BHP, this sort of thing make more sense than a Ducati V4.
Actually I agree with you there!
Good vid lot to see at an obviously slow time of year. Everybody is buying and riding. The best of times for bikes. Anyway, I hope you get to meet LAVI and OLLIE at the ABR festival this weekend. Followed them the whole trip. Novice people who learned how to ride and travel pretty much while on the road. The big Suzuki AKA BUMBLEBEE was up to it as well. So meet and greet with them and the bike will be there as well. Lavi has just got her motorcycle license. No more back seat rider for her. Film some if it too. Love to be there. Hopefully next year. I'm running out of years. All good. Safe riding and flying
Sad to hear that.
What?
I remember seeing a stunt rider @ Santa Pod yrs ago on a Z1300 Kwacker,he wasn't using skis,he had metal plates like a speedway rider. He was on his own & he had one ankle in a cast as he had broken ankle. Don't remember the speeds, but I'm sure he was French.

Way too many Harley's here for noise cameras, HA, maybe California will lead the charge!! Will miss Matt too!
The R2000 engine is earmarked for the next gs adventure model..... you need to ride the 660Tuareg. Better than the T7 way lighter than the desert x etc.
The noise cameras near Loomies are been set off by tractors more often that motorcycles,
Greatest hits Radio told us about Micheal Dunlop beating Joey’s record, just what I wanted to hear as I was going to watch the race when I got home from work.
Anyone into the TT it’s work paying for the TT+ live pass app, it late now but hopefully they will have it again next year.
Great tip! ….and interesting re the tractors!
@@TheMissendenFlyer My lawn tractor has a sticker on it showing how many decibels it produces. It is higher than the limit on one of the local tracks. I often wonder how they keep their grass so beautiful mown.
There used to be a nutter at Brands Hatch who would slip off the seat a speeding Kawasaki grabbing the back of the seat getting dragged along the tarmac wearing Dutch clogs that would leave a trail of sparks.
Really enjoy bike news, did you ever consider it becoming a podcast. I ask as normally I watch it but this morning I listened to it while walking the dog and for me it worked, ow I may watch it to later but as a podcast it worked.

R20 ? I really fancy an RnineT but they’re a touch small for me (6ft4), so if this R20 is in essence a bigger version of this than the R18 cruiser, then it could be right up my street…… especially with all that ohlins bling on it 👍👍
"Absolute lunacy "! "Love it!" 😂😂😂😂
Would love to see you review the zx4rr. Do you have a friend with a 90s 400 kawasaki? Would be fun to see a comparison.
And as great as the street triple is, its not in the same class as the cbr600rr and the kawasaki zx6. Its like apples to oranges.
Hi TMF , advise for my first bike. I will be doing a DAS course . i Have been driving since Feb 1990. Would a Tiger 800 be too much as a first bike. Thanks Chris. Great Channel I enjoy all your content.
I live in a 12 month riding season state in the US and I have never seen an R18 in the wild. I don't know who is buying those things.
If I were in charge at BMW Motorrad, I'd shut down that R18 model production today. Sometimes you need to cut your loss and move on. They should come up with a 1300 GS Nostalgia Model instead by putting the new technology in the older bike's chassis (1250 GS).
How does a camera record noise? I'm sure the detector is a sound sensor/ microphone of some sort else it's an April the 1st item!
I think BMW are losing the plot along with a lot of other older manufacturers. The Chinese are going to do to them and other legacy manufacturers what the Japanese did to the British bike industry.
BMW lost the plot over 30 years ago .
@@maskedavenger2578My 2005 & 2002 BMWs are very nice thank you.
BMW's only good bike is the S1000RR. the chinese are releasing smallnore fours which have so much more character than the inline twins tons of manufacturers are switching to
Yes I agree that the Chinese bikes are rapidly improving, but ride a modern bmw, most are fantastic, balanced with outstanding handling.
Electronics are similar from all manufacturers , engineering is better on the bmw but so is the price. Get what you pay for, and I'm not discrediting some if the new Chinese bikes, they are excellent.
@@kevinhann104 I would choose a Japanese badged bike made in China or anywhere ,over a modern BMW . If you class being used as a mug to finish testing for issues that BMW should have sussed & sorted at factory ,as getting what you paid for ,as good value , I don’t .
might make myself unpopular now . ...I love bikes , been riding for 26 years , have an after market can ( not silly loud) but regards cans and noise ..it is has got a bit ridiculous ....I live in a residential area on the approach to some great biking roads and apart from hearing some not so considerate riders revving the bjayzuss off their bikes in the 30mph residential area. ..and many overtaking dangerously near a school .......you can also hear many of the considerate riders who kept a lid on it until they got to open roads literally a mile away when they are going for it ...probaly heard 30 tonight alone ....so you can imagine what my non biking neighbours especially with babies and pets think of them and hot hatches etc ....people who make their bike that loud just alienate most of the non biking public and if we dont calm ourselves down ..i am sure noise cameras / revenue generating enforcement tickets will start coming.....sure , have an after market can , sounding nice ...but please dont take the biscuit ....or we will all start paying the price.....anyway love the show Missenden flyer.
BMW R20 set to be a roadster not a cruiser Andy - different segment, so think of it as a bigger R12/R129T not a R18 :) but unlikely to go ahead :(
Looking forward to ABR
Me too! See you there.....
I don’t know if R18 sells well here in the states, but I credit BMW for making an ostentatious bike…and several versions to choose. My knees would not approve of the riding position, but I like them all the same. As for the Pan American it’s doing fairly well here…the new engine is a blast!
Yes i agree - the new HD engine is a peach!
Gday tmf...would you consider doing a review of the cfmoto NK 800?
Indeed - duly noted!
You cannot think that the new 1300GS is even remotely as fugly as that Harley?!! I know you're not a fan but to the uninitiated like me, I can barely tell the difference between the 1250GS and 1300GS and actually prefer the more streamlined look.
Ok maybe I was being a bit extreme!!!
Should get a good trade in price for my R18 when I show interest in the new R20 at my local dealership.... what do you mean you'll be lucky.
Dont think I'll bother then 🙄.
Good video mate, is it me though or is the mic a bit on the tinny side this upload?
I noticed that too - I think it's more to do with an echo in the room....
"Now this is proper nutter stuff innit". That made me spit my coffee! 😂😂😂
Do you disagree?
@@TheMissendenFlyer absolutely not! 🤣🤣🤣
I ride a stage 1 Harley.... sound cameras are a worrying thought.
I think the pan American on looks beats out the gs but it’s hard to beat German engineering. Maybe just maybe the Pan America Special is a better value than the gs. I totally get keeping your old gs instead of buying a new one if there’s nothing wrong with it.
Andy, FYI sound on this video has a ringing sound.
Hmmm weird that…..
Hi there ...are you planning to ride the Suzuki sx250 by any chance..?
I’ve never heard of those! Dont think we get them in the UK.
Sad to hear about Mat.
Yes very much so….
Any more flying vids? Bikes vs planes vs Helicopters vs trikes. 😊😊😊
