+theawesomeico200 It's not so much that Romania is better at fighting corruption than Bulgaria is, it's more like corruption in the Romanian state apparatus has grown to such proportions that it's seen as a threat to internal and external security by both the EU and NATO, so they finally started to push through a few cleanup efforts with outside support.
As a Bulgarian, I can say that my country doesn't get much love or recognition from the rest of the world, so reading this comment section where everyone took the time to say something nice about Bulgaria, really warms my heart! Love to you and all of your beautiful homes too!
Agreed, something about Bulgaria (even though I'm just an American who's only left the country once for Japan) makes me want to go there, the culture and landscape is extremely attractive, as soon as I can Bulgaria is certainly my first go-to place to see.

We all are humans, and as such, prefer to live off each-other's happiness than each-other's sadness! This, combined with the ecapuslated geography of those regions and the alomst non-existant conatct with other ppl/ tribes in the past, means that you are likely to find a unique and beutiful local tradition, that everyone loves everywhere you look! SO instead of giving suggestions to other to visit your ansetral home, how about you go and visit some placaes you've never been to - it's a lot easier than it sounds! I have a friend, whos a "nomad', and basically travels the world on what little money he earns, with great success! If he can do it, then we can plan a one-week or two-weeks holiday to another country out there, that we can afford!
Sorry for the rant - basically, what I'm trying to say is to stop trying to promote the regions you konw to other ppl, and insead you go and explore thye regions of the world you've never been to! GO and enjoy yourlsef, instead of trying to make other enjoy themselves in the places you think they should!

Bulgaria is so cool, definitely in my top 3 countries in Europe. Maybe I'm subjective because I'm from Romania and we are quite similar in many ways and we know to look behind the image of the poor (EU) country. I don't know many Bulgarians, but the ones I've meet we're cool, talented, educated and all around nice people. I don't understand how the rest of Europe is not in love with this country. Have you seen their rhythmic gymnastics? or listen to their traditional women's choir songs? The mind hunting track from Ghost in the Shell was inspired by them. I’m British and Balkan countries are my favourite, tbh. Beautiful cultures of each different country, traditional music and dresses are amazing, and the people are so gorgeous. May be poor countries but they have the best history in Europe. You should be proud to be Romanian.

Is it weird how Iceland is about as big as Bulgaria but have only population of like Plovdiv (the 2nd largest city and the oldest city in Bulgaria and one of the oldest cities in Europe)? But much richer in terms of GDP?

@@HeroManNick1321 year old comment but Iceland is approximately 103,125 km2 or 39,817 sq mi. Meanwhile, Bulgaria is 110,993.6 km2 (42,854.9 sq mi). It's close, but not as big as Bulgaria. And as to why it has a small population, it's mainly due to the climate and lack of historical development. Iceland was isolated from the rest of the world.

And the famous bulgarian yogurt is made by special bacteria that can be found around balkan and rodophes mountains. Nothing to do with the old bulgar tribes who came to the balkans at 7th century and got asmilated compleatly by the majority of slavs around 9th century.

In 2002 I met my Bulgarian wife Emma )). I know a little bit of Bulgarian language mnogo malko, but also I know and I have traveled among beautiful places, I like the mineral springs, mud baths, moussaka, meatballs (kiufteta da!), Shopska salad, hot peppers and many others.., in general I would replace everything for Bulgaria that is my country! In fact lots of English speakers do know Bulgaria very well, since it is a popular destination for seaside holidays and for buying rural houses to live in when you are retired. The Brits are so common in the villages here that they even have entered local modern literature, with a novel „English neighbour“ by Mikhail Veshim (there is also a sitcom based on it).

And what I can say is that you guys are one of the warmest and kindest people I have ever met, and your country is probably the most beautiful I got the chance to see. And your rich culture and history, your traditional music, and your food!! Yogurt in France doesn't taste as good since I've tasted bulgarian yogurt! And I'm depressed to not be able to eat banitsa anymore!! I miss so many things from Bulgaria since I'm back in France ahahah

I left Bulgaria to French Canada 14 years ago because of the corrupt politicians and the way they govern my country. I miss it so much, of course, I miss banitsa, boza, and kiselo mliako . Now we see that all governments everywhere in the world are corrupted. I like Trump so much and wish he governs the world. Then I will be back in My country.

just visited Bulgaria last week, really love the country!! really great atmosphere, nature, and culture. People never really talk about going there, but after my trip, I really recommend you to go! I love too see how Bulgaria is kind of mix of European and Asian culture. I also recognize a lot of similarities with Asian. I also really like how the people use rose flower for everything, like parfume, soaps, foods, sweets, etc. will definitely comeback someday!

Greetings from Poland to Bulgaria! You have a beautiful internationally known actress Nina Dobrev, who in my mind, is one of the most beautiful actresses in history. During the time she was shooting "The Vampire Diaries" (with her co-star Paul Weasley who's by the way Polish), she looked like the most beautiful girl in the world. The Vampire Diaries really had strong Slavic vibes! Bulgaria and Poland are the only Slavic countries that still exist in the same form as before the fall of communism in 1989. Other Slavic countries either broke out from USRR and did not exist for the most part of the 20th century or changed their names and territories. This year, Polish-Bulgarian singer Blanka represents Poland in Eurovision Song Contest with her song "Solo" and she's really proud of her Bulgarian heritage. She's heavily hated but whatever. The things I mentioned are simple things, but the things that not many people realize and I think they kind of connect our 2 Slavic countries, which are so far away from each other, but after all, we're both Slavic nations. My first job was in 2019 when I came to Germany to factory TST to earn some money for college. The biggest amount of people working there was from Romania, Poland, and Bulgaria. I decided to work there once more during the summer of 2022, this time it was mainly Poles and Bulgarians, unfortunately, the chef staff divided people into nations, so Bulgarians work separately from Poles together, and Poles with each other, to avoid the language communication barrier during the work. But before work at about 5:30 am some of us gathered in front of the factory to smoke and we always greeted each other- Poles and Bulgarians- with respect. I remember that my lighter didn't want to work once and this nice Bulgarian lady by herself lent me her lighter to light my cigarette and it was very nice

Hey, in some regions of Mexico we also make yoghurt the Bulgarian way. We actually call the lactobacillus "Bulgaros", which actually means "Bulgarians". It's so delicious!
That is actually the scientific name here we also call it that bcs is the only place which live in the wild

Interesting fact: The pronunciation of the capital is actually Sófia (stressed on the o) whereas Sofía (stressed on the i) is a female name.
