Thanks Jamel! I saw KISS on their tour for this album. I was 14, and painted my face like Ace, and my buddy painted up like Paul. The show was awesome, and I will never forget it. The bonus for me was the opening act, Judas Priest. I lot of people did not know them, but I was already into Priest, and they put on an excellent performance. Most everyone was there to see KISS, and often booed Priest, and chanted “We want KISS,” which made me mad because I also very much also wanted to see and hear Priest, and they were stellar! Oh, the memories.
This band was an utter phenomenon when I was growing up. Everybody knew exactly who they were, posters were all over the place, kids sang their songs in school and even came to parties in makeup like them. This song was Kiss at there best
I remember the release of this album so well. We all put on our best platform shoes, elephant bell crushed denim pants, and headed out to party at the local "Kiss-co-tech". 🤩 🥳 Good times. 🥳 🤩

Kiss was with Casablanca Records, an American record label owned by Universal Music Group and operated under Republic Records. Under its founder Neil Bogart, Casablanca was most successful during the disco era of the mid to late 1970s. The label currently focuses on dance and electronic music under the direction of Rob Stevenson and Brett Alperowitz. "The Casablanca Singles by KISS...1974-1982" covers KISS' remarkable eight-year stay on Bogart's label, from their very first, "Nothin' to Lose" b/w "Love Theme from KISS", from their self-titled debut to their very first charted 45, "Kissin' Time". The band's subsequent string of hits included "Dressed to Kill"'s live version of "Rock and Roll All Nite" (#12 on Billboard's Hot 100), "Destroyer"'s "Shout It Out Loud" (#31) and the Top 10 ballad "Beth", "Rock And Roll Over"'s "Hard Luck Woman" (#15) and "Calling Dr. Love" (#16), "Love Gun"'s "Christeen Sixteen" (#25), Ace Frehley's solo hit, "New York Groove" (#13) and "Dynasty"'s "I Was Made for Lovin' You" (#11).
I heard Kiss perform this song live at Dodger Stadium in (I wanna say) 1998. Some friends from work invited me to the show. A memorable night I will never forget.
I've lost count of the number of KISS concerts I've been to, but this song is always a fan favorite...and sounds so much better live. 1985, when I was 17, my best friend and I met KISS backstage...the highlight of my young life, lol.
Every time I hear this worldwide hit it takes me back to 1979 when my friend and I saw a rock magazine article titled Kiss goes disco”. Immediately my friend said “Kiss goes disco my ASSCO!” 😂. Since then I’m proud to say my 18 year old son and I have met all four original members of our all time favorite band KISS!
Oh! Stupid notifications made me late to this party.. This is one of my favs of all time! Jamel- I’ll go ahead and say, PLEEEASE react to “I still love you.” FANTASTIC ballad of theirs! Different side of Paul Stanley singing his love/heart slap out!! No makeup, onstage! 🔥🔥❤️✌️
I was about 9 or 10 years old when this came out and we all loved it and became Kiss fans on the back of it, in the way that children do - we had their names plastered over our books and tried to learn as much as we could about the band members from music magazines. We each had our favourites but everyone wanted to be able to touch their chin with their tongue like Gene Simmons
@@AaronRadioStudio Yes, the Live version as well as others, their first 3 albums were good but does not match the energy/intensity of them doing the songs live.
KISS was one of several rock acts that put out a disco song. KISS, Rod Stewart, The Rolling Stones, all had hits during the disco era that were "disco adjacent" at the very least. This was mostly done on a dare, but they pulled it off. ~Be Blessed
Definitely a song that was a sign of the times. With disco so big at that moment, a lot of rock bands did this (Stones, Queen) to try and remain relevant.
Stones Miss You not disco. Just had the four on the floor bass drum beat.. that alone does not make it a disco song. Disco tracks don’t have harmonica in them🤣
Saw KISS twice in the 70’s ... once at the Fabulous Forum where Cheap Trick & Peter Frampton opened for KISS. And, Anaheim Stadium where Ted Nugent & Bob Seger opened for them! Both concerts were unbelievable!! Love the song GOD OF THUNDER🩸🩸Ace Frehley’s electric bolts from his guitar 🎉 Confetti falling all over the Forum during ROCK N ROLL ALL NIGHT 😻 BETH by Peter Criss. And definitely can’t forget Uncle Ted zip-lining to the Anaheim stage playing his guitar in a loin cloth!! Those were the days!! Ace Frehley’s sister is my hairdresser & says Ace is working on a solo project now & doing quite well. 👊 (boom)
Despite their wild makeup, Kiss was one of the most commercial formula rock music bands of them all. Along with a charismatic front man, and spectacular pyrotechnic stage shows. Add in the marketing campaign, you couldn't escape their logo. More like savvy entrepreneurs than musical geniuses. The music is not terrible by any means. Good hard driving rock n roll. Sounds the best when you're 18, and drunk.
1979 ~ The last time KISS was original & "cool." My 1st concert 12/1/79. All I see now, is huge disco balls & glitter. I truly appreciate your reactions, mate! Thank you.

Disco Fever ! Everyone took a shot at the magic beats that were selling like McDonald's. Kiss, the Stones, even The Grateful Dead took a walk down "Shakedown Street"...
Hated this back in the day. Rockers like me despised disco and hated kiss for putting this out. Of course years later and some maturity we realise it's a pretty cool tune
Finally a KISS appearance! haha This was their stab at disco and turned out to be one of their bigger radio airplay hits. Even though they're a hard rock band, they dabble in lots of genres as you'll see if you dig deeper into them. Keep doin' your thing sir.
So, not a member of the Kiss army by any stretch, but to me this was one of their best. To me, this song was their music and their glam campiness finally coalescing into something that made sense. Of course, I get why the average Kiss fan does not like this, and that's cool too, but this is a JAM.
Your roller skating comments were dead on! I totally remember skating to this tune! Hell, I had it on single! Yeah, it's disco, but it just showed how versatile KISS really was. Have fun!

@@scottferrell2806, wrong, Paul played bass in this song. Almost every band member (except Criss and St John) played bass in some songs (Thayer, for example, played bass in some 'Hot in the Shade' songs). Gene didn't play bass even in his solo album. He is a great player though, just don't feel insecure when somebody else plays a bass part.
I grew up listening to Kiss, some of the best memories I have with my dad, glad I got to see them in 96 with him before he passed away a few weeks after my 12th birthday. That being said, Live Kiss is the best Kiss.
Yeah, some of their stuff was definitely a hard rock/funk/disco fusion. And this was one. My personal favorite by them is God Of Thunder with Gene on lead vocal.
This song reminds me of better days and hanging out with my girl neighbors that lived a couple doors down and they played this one a lot. This brings back great memories of just hanging out. This was their answer to disco. This is one of my favorite songs of theirs. From 1979.

"a lot of people don't like disco" but a lot do! And I'm one of them. At 56 I still go to dance clubs twice a month to tear up the floor, and long may I continue doing it for nothing else brings me such unbridled joy!
Welcome to KISS! You can spend the next month just on them. This song is not representative of them though...it was an attempt to capitalize on the end of the Disco era. Not a bad song though! Next up for them: Detroit Rock City; Heaven’s on Fire; Crazy, Crazy Nights; Shout It Out Loud; Strutter.
In the top three all time KISS songs for me! Great song! Lick it up.. Heaven's on fire.. Rock and Roll all night.. Detroit Rock City... etc... so many good songs!
Yes, KISS did a disco song, because the record company wanted them to do it since it was the late 70's and the disco era. Hated by most, but I always liked it and I think it brought others to KISS. But if you are going down the KISS rabbit hole, try Detroit Rock City, Shout it out Loud, Rock and Roll all Nite, God of Thunder, Love Gun, Beth, etc. You have hundreds of choices, and these will give you more of a feel for true KISS music. Keep that great music Alive, and keep rocking your reactions. Love the channel.
After this song was released, I remember when they came to my town for their tour, a bunch of Kiss fans formed a picket line in front of the stadium entrance and they would carry 'NO DISCO' signs.
I don’t care about the beat. I love listening to KISS 💋 no matter what it is! People can learn how to handle a little disco! That is what is great about growing up in the 80’s. I loves everything from disco to country!
I saw Kiss on their Destroyer tour in 1976 * ( pictures) and I saw them again in 1979 w/ pictures and they played this song - and they nailed it- great reaction and I love ur videos!!!!!
This was the first hit Desmond Child co-wrote. His hits as a songwriter include Kiss's "I Was Made for Lovin' You"; Joan Jett & the Blackhearts' "I Hate Myself for Loving You"; Bon Jovi's "You Give Love a Bad Name", "Livin' on a Prayer",[1] "Bad Medicine", and "Born to Be My Baby "; Aerosmith's "Dude (Looks Like a Lady), "Angel", "What It Takes" and "Crazy"; Cher’s "We All Sleep Alone" and "Just Like Jesse James"; Alice Cooper's "Poison"; Michael Bolton's "How Can We Be Lovers?"; and Ricky Martin's "The Cup of Life" and "Livin' la Vida Loca".
rock bands in the late seventies/early eighties would write songs like these so they would get played in discos & roller rinks and get more spins. Queen's was Another One Bites the Dust
This was around the time when Kiss started using custom guitars which fit in with with their over the top show ethics. - Gene's executioner axe shaped bass. - Ace's light chasing guitar - Paul's broken mirror guitar. But let me tell you the story about that last one. Paul got himself an endorsement deal with Ibanez guitars which resulted in a Paul Stanley signature model. Paul became immersed in the upcoming New York city Disco scene and figured that a guitar with the effect of a Disco ball would be just the ticket. But to keep in touch with Kiss' heavy metal roots, commissioned the guitar to look like a cracked mirror. axeology.com/image/1979-06-20_PS10SM1.jpg Luthier Jeff Hasselberger was hired by Ibanez to build the guitar which used real mirror recessed into the guitar's body. Hasselbverger turned a spotlight onto it and the beams went in every single direction, just as Paul had meant it to. But Mirror is SHARP and Hasselberger had to buff every single edge smooth and apparently missed a few spots since Paul actually ripped open his arm a couple of times. No matter what you might think of Kiss, that's HARDCORE!

There's no way to narrow it down to just one or a few songs as "favorites" but as a huge fan since 1977 when I was only 6 years old I would have to start with "Deuce", the opening track from "Alive" along with a few others like "Love Gun", "I Stole Your Love", "Shout It Out Loud", Heaven's On Fire".....
"If there's one thing KISS will never do, it's a bull**** disco song."
-Lex, "Detroit Rock City" movie
But they did and here it is in all its glory.
That movie is THE BEST
@@anypoxynames that was not disco. That was early stage glam rock. Not that there is anything wrong with disco, but they were no more disco than ELO was. I don’t mean to butt in, but if you care to read the following reply, you can. If not, that’s cool. I rarely speak up, but it took my mind off my worries for a while, so I appreciated the challenge. All in kindness, all just discussion.
@@Queen_of_Hearts-Sharnell Glam rock appeared in the early 70's. This was released 1979, just saying. Still can't stand it.
Love that movie. I watch it every time it's on tv. I always say to myself, if I was his mother, I'd be taking them to the concert and rockin' out with them.
I always feel like a dork because this is the ONE Kiss song I like....but I freakin LOVE IT. Gets me moving every time.
I'm A Kiss fan and proudly LOVE this song! People felt that way about the Bee Geesh after they made the DISCO era!! Music transcends everything!
This was my very first rock concert, I had a friend who is older than me and her mother worked at a record store as a manager. She got some free tickets and my friend asked me to go to the Municipal Auditorium in Nashville Tennessee to see kiss. I was so damn excited oh, there was only one problem. I was only 10 years old. I begged and pleaded with my parents to let me go and they finally relented. It was standing room only that night. We were short and couldn't see the stage very well, in addition ,there was too much marijuana smoke to see much of anything....lol.. my ears were ringing for 2 days.
Was it worth it?
Same here. I begged my dad for tickets when they came to town. I couldn't wait to go. I was about 15 at the time. lol Begged and pleaded and cried. I got my way. lol
Well ,for kids the image was so cool ,with the makeup and everything, but I'm pretty sure that my parents were not the only ones who thought they were the disciples of Satan....lol😆😂🤣
@@darcisavelli546 well I have to say that my fascination Kiss didn't last too long. I think preteens and early teenagers were a big part of their fan base. Now I would just consider them apart of the "Shock Rockers " of time, along with Ozzy Osbourne, and Alice Cooper.
KISS'S contribution to Disco! An entertaining and pretty damn good tune! Thanks for playing this one Jamel, I play this one acoustically. 👍👍🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
The first time I ever saw a concert in 1977 you should listen to Beth by kiss
My First Kiss concert November 1975 I was 16 years old.And the Rest is Kisstory.Kiss Army Forever!
Yes scene that sore I seen kiss with you original lineup since 1975 all at Madison Square Garden the worlds most famous arena. He was very polite and we had a good little conversation because she couldn’t do a line so people are outside around the corner. The book is kiss and makeup. It’s a good read check itikour
Y’all served him the Kissco first???😂😂😂😂 love it.
"KISSco"-love that. Don't let Gene see that. He'll grab it and copyright it.
@@jonnuanez2843 he probably already did lol I didn’t invent it I just heard it somewhere
@@mattcurti686 Knowing Gene, he'd probably make mirror balls with the KISS logo all around it and charge $80.
Rosco (rock/disco songs) were not bad. Goodnight Tonight by Wings, Miss You by The Rolling Stones, Do You Think I'm Sexy from Rod Stewart, ...l
I've lost count of the number of KISS concerts I've been to, but this song is always a fan favorite...and sounds so much better live.
1985, when I was 17, my best friend and I met KISS backstage...the highlight of my young life, lol.
If I had to pick one Kiss song I would like to see Jamal do it would be Nothin' to Lose.
Yes yes and sure know something
Absolutely. Would love to see his interpretation of the lyrics.
Talk about freaky deaky! lol

Lick it up is another good one by Kiss
Lick It Up and Heaven’s On Fire are big rockers!!! Love em!!
This song was the 'Kiss' answer to disco.
Kiss - Detroit Rock City
- Shout it Out Loud
- God of Thunder 🤘🤘🤘
Three of my favorite songs!
"Someone grab me the roller skates and get the hell outa my way!!" FLMAO😂🤣 "KISSCO"
That should be on some merch 😂😂😂😂
Kiss rule. Love gun is a good one of theirs.
If u want to hear a great KISS song listen to Black Diamond
Replacements version awesome ua-cam.com/video/S4RyjwIdwxc/v-deo.html
Best KISS song is “Black Diamond” off the Alive! album IMO
Yeah but Disco ended in 1980 Nu wave came in.
👊 (boom)
They were the first band on the label that would have bands like “the village people” they would eventually have gotten on the disco train lol
Check out "Sure know something" off the same album as "I was made for loving you". It has a cool video too!
THIS☝️
1979 ~ The last time KISS was original & "cool." My 1st concert 12/1/79. All I see now, is huge disco balls & glitter. I truly appreciate your reactions, mate! Thank you.
Detroit Rock City - KISS
My first concert in the 70's KISS. What a show...A little disco never hurt anyone. Great reaction as usual.
I LOVE IT LOUD has to be my favorite by KISS
I was certainly the youngest girl in Italy I was 6 years old to buy this single ... Fascinated and at the same time troubled by this band. 'now ..... I'm fashion and sexy even at 70 years old. Gene Simmons is a myth that has upset my dreams as a teenager, the theatricality and the look of this mythical band is unique and will be forever!!!!!!❤️😈💋
Disco Fever ! Everyone took a shot at the magic beats that were selling like McDonald's. Kiss, the Stones, even The Grateful Dead took a walk down "Shakedown Street"...
I saw kiss 1980,it was an unbelievable show,Peter Chris rose up on a pedestal banging the drums, 30 ft flames, they just rocked the house.. cA 🖒
Hated this back in the day. Rockers like me despised disco and hated kiss for putting this out. Of course years later and some maturity we realise it's a pretty cool tune
Right on
Finally a KISS appearance! haha This was their stab at disco and turned out to be one of their bigger radio airplay hits. Even though they're a hard rock band, they dabble in lots of genres as you'll see if you dig deeper into them. Keep doin' your thing sir.
Saw Kiss in concert 22 years ago, full makeup.. Awesome Awesome show 🔥😻
easily my favorite song from KISS. it's one of my go to songs to start my groove. this and "I believe In a thing called love" by the darkness
Finally some KISS! You should try out the Unplugged version of I Still Love You.
Bam!
Good Lord, I saw KISS multiple times in the 80's and that song just exhausts me now.
I loved when a band stepped out of their box. Albums that fans didn't care for were usually my favorites.
It would not be Kiss without this song, I love it.
As a first time introduction to Kiss?
WTF
You wanted the best, you got the best. The hottest rock and roll band in the world. KISS! Best live show ever.
Have fun!
Thank God Anton Fig was on his game with his drumming for this album...
And Paul Stanley was kicking ass on that bass. Gene didn’t like the song and it was one of the two albums where gene had the lesser amount of songs
Loved Anton’s drumming on Ace’s work!
@@Chicken_Wing91 Paul doesn’t play bass, Gene does.
@@scottferrell2806 yeah **Live** in the studio they don’t record live the record each person playing separately and mix it together.. that’s why they had a producer
Thank you brother Jamel for making me smile!!!!!Thank you for doing a reaction to America’s greatest and most successful American band ever KISS!
Start with Detroit Rock City, Beth, Rock & Roll All Night!
I grew up listening to Kiss, some of the best memories I have with my dad, glad I got to see them in 96 with him before he passed away a few weeks after my 12th birthday. That being said, Live Kiss is the best Kiss.

Not a big Kiss fan but I always liked this song.
Kiss and Rush are my Favorite two Bands. Kiss 1 was my first Album in 1975. 💗 Rush was my first concert in 1978. 15 yrs old. 🤘
You give me a great big smile on every video. How about PEACHES AND HERB...REUNITED? Love ya! Mary
I was 12 when this came out. Our neighbor had a stereo with flashing disco lights and they played this non-stop. That's where the action was, baby 😁
React to more kiss!!!
Yeah, some of their stuff was definitely a hard rock/funk/disco fusion. And this was one. My personal favorite by them is God Of Thunder with Gene on lead vocal.
Lex: "Man, if there's one thing KISS will never do, it is a bs disco song".
This song reminds me of better days and hanging out with my girl neighbors that lived a couple doors down and they played this one a lot. This brings back great memories of just hanging out. This was their answer to disco. This is one of my favorite songs of theirs. From 1979.
Please react to the rock band Cheap Trick: "Surrender", "I Want You To Want Me" (Live At Budokan), "Dream Police", "The Flame", "Ain't That A Shame" (Live At Budokan), "Voices", "Ghost Town", and "ELO Kiddies".
Saw Cheap Trick open for KISS at the Fabulous Form in L.A. Fantastic!
"a lot of people don't like disco" but a lot do! And I'm one of them. At 56 I still go to dance clubs twice a month to tear up the floor, and long may I continue doing it for nothing else brings me such unbridled joy!
Yes, I was 12 years old when this came out and was an absolute staple at the roller rink. Skated to this a lot.
Hey we would've been classmates! 🤘😎
of all the songs in the Kiss catalog, this one divides us the most. you either hate it or you love it, there is no middle ground on it. I love it
Try “Hard Luck Woman.” Sort of a KISS country song
Seeing them live was surreal... This brings back memories from that show! Blew my mind!
This is what happens when a hard rock act attempt to write a disco song.
hahaha! And I was a die hard kiss fan! lol
Yeah. They nailed it. Right up there with The Stones' Miss You.
They get a sonically and melodically near perfect track? 🧐
I've seen them live five times. They give it their all every show and truly appreciate their fans ❤
Great song simple as that! I'm happy that you loved the song. This song changed everything for KISS.
I saw Kiss on their Destroyer tour in 1976 *
( pictures) and I saw them again in 1979 w/ pictures and they played this song - and they nailed it- great reaction and I love ur videos!!!!!
I remember in 1978, I was 6 yrs.old and terrified of them. Fast forward to the 80's and I really appreciated them and their music.
You would be greatly impressed with their ballad "I Still Love You" from MTV Unplugged version.
It's awesome, watch and review that one
rock bands in the late seventies/early eighties would write songs like these so they would get played in discos & roller rinks and get more spins. Queen's was Another One Bites the Dust
I appreciate disco! I’ve taken some crap for it over the years, but I still think it’s a valid music genre! It was fun music. 🕺💃
This was around the time when Kiss started using custom guitars which fit in with with their over the top show ethics.
- Gene's executioner axe shaped bass.
- Ace's light chasing guitar
- Paul's broken mirror guitar.
But to keep in touch with Kiss' heavy metal roots, commissioned the guitar to look like a cracked mirror.
axeology.com/image/1979-06-20_PS10SM1.jpg
Luthier Jeff Hasselberger was hired by Ibanez to build the guitar which used real mirror recessed into the guitar's body.
