  • This beautiful tiny house on wheels has become a dream first home, allowing one young woman to escape the rent and mortgage traps and get her start on the housing ladder!
Stef was drawn to the idea of living in a tiny house as she wanted to live in a place which was simple, minimal and which would give her the ability to focus on other parts of her life.
Life in a city like Auckland can be crazy expensive. With the average house price around 1 million dollars and the cost of rent through the roof many end up getting stuck in the rent trap and have given up on the idea that they will ever be able to own their own homes.
When looking for housing options in Auckland, Stef began searching for alternative solutions such as shipping container homes. When her childhood friend decided to move overseas, selling their almost complete tiny house, Stef jumped on the opportunity to become its new owner and get her first foot on the housing ladder.
At 17m2 (182ft2) this tiny house has it all, including an amazing parking spot, close to the beach and with sea views! Enjoy the full tour of this beautiful tiny home.

I hope that you're all keeping safe and well! I'm sure many of you watching this will currently be in self isolation / quarantine due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Rasa and I cut our Australia tour short and returned to New Zealand, where we have now been in self isolation for just over a week. New Zealand has just gone into level 4 lockdown, which means everyone in the country is self-isolating for at least the next 4 weeks. It's crazy times out there, and I hope you and your loved ones are all okay. Fortunately, we have enough videos already filmed from earlier in the year that we will be able to provide videos for at least the next couple of months - and after that, unless travel restrictions have been lifted, we might have to get creative. We are all in this together though. Stay home, stay safe, keep well. I hope you enjoy this weeks video. With love, Bryce & Rasa

Best advice I could give you as a 32 year old buying a house via the traditional route; as soon as you start working, set up a second bank account & start saving money for your house. Even if it's just a small amount each month, it will add up & put you years ahead. I really wish somebody had said this to me when I was your age because I would probably have been in my own house about 4 years ago but I'm still having to save.

I think that I will take the pandemic and lockdown as a chance to build my tiny house. I am currently living in Belgium hoping that we don't need to spend 2 more months in lockdown (this is the 3rd week). If not, I have a chance to return to my home country Latvia where I can spend time in the countryside completely isolated from the rest of the world. Materials are available and if I manage to get equipment- I will go there and build my tiny house. It's been good 3 years of watching your tiny house videos and I'm ready to go for it. We are still only in the opening stages of this pandemic.... things are certain to get much much worse. Optimism and positivity are tremendously helpful, but they need to be counter balanced and kept in check with realism and preparation. The idea is not to dwell on speculation and fear, but to acknowledge that extreme dire scenarios are very plausible, if not probable, and hedge against them. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. My hope is that after we emerge from this crisis, great lessons will have been learned and that we will change the way we live our lives, so dependent on the system, so that the next time crisis hits, we will all be more independent, self sufficient, and prepared.

This one is one of my favourites. And I watched your channel A LOT in last month. Double stairs are good idea and I love the fact how much open space she has. Doesnt feel tiny because its not cluttered. The owner is gorgeus as well and gives off really positive vibe. Great work again!

I think it would actually be pretty easy to create a privacy barrier on the "sleeping room" wall. you could use fabric or plants or wood panels. and it wouldn't be very difficult to install.
i was also surprised to the tv isnt mounted on the wall. that's the first thing i would change. 😆 also i'd have a roll up projector screen mounted on the ceiling so it can hang down in front of the tv so you could choose between the two.
i like this floor plan a lot.

Are tiny houses exempt from building codes regarding stairs. I've noticed in just about every tiny house the step and riser very significantly from those allowed in regular homes, along with the omission of hand rails.

    • @oliverburke
