Money shift? I'm curious how the owner killed it...Was it like multiple track days or like I changed the oil 8k miles ago and I flogged it in 110 degree weather... Or 87 octane is best for performance...
The engines prior to 2009 have issues with oiling and other bits that make them pretty allergic to track use, and prone to puking even in normal driving. 2009+ have a pretty sweet upgrade in the oiling system to keep the motor happy even in high G cornering.
@@MrCukydoh My father is a Die Hard Porsche enthusiast, has owned multiple porches like 944s, 911s, 914s, etc for at least 30 years, and according to him, the Cayman is more of a proper Porsche than the current 911s. The Cayman has a driving experience that you expect from a Porsche, the new 911s just feel like large luxury cruisers that can go fast, like an M series BMW or an RS Audi. Driving both new and Old Porsches myself, I'd have to agree.
@@Bazzookie but tbh if it werent for that "fast luxury cruiser" then people would just go for the competitors in its price range. i love its rear engine layout because it allows rear seats while still having better performance than a front engine.

what ls guys are butthurt lol? its funny because the ls is just smaller and offer more cubes too. Best cayman ever built It's just perfection It has the power It has the handling And it's manual And it has the best sound ever And it's beautiful looking And it's a Porsche
People will be so quick to bash the Coyote engine like it doesn't hold great value when in reality its one of the biggest bang for buck V8 motors of this era. It can easily get you 550-580 to the crank N/A on a safe custom TUNE. I'm sure if you do H/C/I 302r heads, stage 3 comp cams, CJ intake then the sky is the limit.
One of my favourite parts of the Cayman is the engine which means I wouldn't do this swap, but I can understand why he did. The car seems to drive extremely well, who ever has this in their garage will love it.
But,But,But it should have an LS motor, Oh screw the LS motors, finally a shop that thinks outside the GM box. Probably making the Porshe guys vomit but who cares? Thanks for a nice change from the norm.

+bandwagon240 You've never experienced a 4.0 flat six then. SMOOTHEST revving engine I've ever experienced minus rotaries AND it revs to 9000 and it has the high pitched mechanical exotic sound. The flat plane crank v8 is a great engine but that 4.0 flat six is just on another planet. The 5.2 sounds great and is louder but man you need to hear the 4.0 flat six just rev out to 9000 rpm.

Wow, what a package. Can't beat the weight distribution. For a more budget minded build the 996 with an LS can be done for something like 15,000 all in. Kinda the same principle. After all the IMS problems of the 3.4 a replacement motor was so much that the LS just made sense. I think the weight was almost the same as well for an LS2 or LS3
I have nothing against the LS engines but it's nice to see something else swapped in! I would have just stuck with the Gulf blue and orange though, just nit picking though...awesome car =========
WATCH THE DAM video BEFORE you comment IDIOT. That's literally one of the first things he tells the viewer. I generally don't like boy racer paint jobs. But i have to believe it along with the sound track of the car is the reason the Camry pulled over so quick. SCORE!!
A part of me is screaming sacrilege that they used an Coyote motor, the other part is reminding me that this would probably out run a cayman Gt4 no problem lol
With ease. A GT350R outruns a Cayman GT4 with ease.. and this is 600lbs lighter, has roughly the same WHP, lower drag, and you can still stuff a ton of tire under a cayman.
Car & driver did a track test for a bunch of cars this year, including the GT350R and the Cayman GT4, the Mustang beat it around the track by about 3-4 seconds. So assuming this Cayman can handle track duty it should smoke everything up to a Viper ACR and Z06.
Even at quite low volume, the sheer amount of mayhem and bass coming from that cabin is making everything in my studio vibrate and rattle. I can only imagine what it must be like inside the car. Perfect LA daily-driver...
A little more TRUE info on the build. The engine is NOT a $14,400 Aluminator, it's a bone stock Ford racing Coyote motor which complete with the electronics, cost about $8,500. The engine was tuned on a dyno, though, and I think the 425 HP may be correct. The power steering is NOT from a Lamborghini Gallardo GT, it's a kit for converting hot rods, etc. to power steering. I can't fault the driver in the video, though - he's probably just repeating information he was given.
That car is sick. The way it sounds reminds me of the cars in Hollywood movie in the 1970s. Even know I grew up in the 80's and 90's, I loved those 70's movies.
Which means if you blow it up again all the work is done and just add new 15 K motor. Cool livery and awesome sounding motor= win. Extra points for unique and non LS high revving V-8 and funny looks.
TheSmokingTire Looks like Jesus actually put in his 2 cents. lol. OK I was just curious so he didn't want to spend basically the $70k for the new motor so he went with a coyote, but it basically cost him $100k in the end anyway. Still a cool build though
The power density on a coyote is mint. They howl. They pull hard, and they're reliable for what they are. (Many have passed 300k miles) I drive an rcsb f150 4x4 5.0. I love how it moves.
I don't like the fact that american sports cars bacially don't exist. it's either 450-700hp 4000+lbs musclecars or 650hp supercars like Corvette and Viper. So it wasn't completely sorted; with obstacles they have over come what's left is the definition of details. Plus this is part of it's development. Got to put some miles on it to see what really needs attention running and driving right. I like the fact that the guy went; that's what a Porsche motor cost;screw that how about we stick a huge honk en twin cam v-8 in it. this engine is huge in terms of it's size. Again passed on the obvious LSX which could easily make the power and been easier to package, cheaper.
Ya I know you did. Thanks for the response. I was just saying that for any option leaving the hatch open a little I would think would not make enough of a difference. But still I am impressed by all the builds people bring to you.
James Mac hell no. the 4.0 flat six sounds sexier and revs so much smoother and up to 9000 AND has a lower center of gravity and I assume it weighs less. The 911r is the perfect car.
Putting a V8 in a 911 would completely shaft it and more likely than not kill you in the process..... The rear engine design of the 911 has up sides (weight behind the rear wheel means it hooks up hard) but putting more weight behind the rear wheels also increases snap over steer and the pendulum effect (not good if you like to drive fast) Porsche have almost engineered it out of their newer cars but by fitting a V8 your reversing all that work and made it even worse.
Because Ford modular engines are fucking huge. I'd curious to find out the reasoning for going Ford over LS. I would think an LS would fit better in the engine compartment already provided.
+allanb3222 No, you are wrong. Matt, said the Aluminator cost $14,000 to the customer. A fully dressed LS3 cost less than $10,000 www.chevrolet.com/performance/crate-engines/e-rod-ls3.html?cmp=OLA_DISPLAY_9516382_129352777_302958530_67918104
That 4.0 would still be a ticking time bomb that costs way more than this engine or ls transplant not to mention how cheap parts are if something breaks on the domestic motors
I adore how often slower people are mindful of faster people around there. Anywhere in the Midwest and they'd go slower to spite you and flip you off like you're the biggest piece of shit on the planet for not wanting to do 10-20mph under the speed limit.
Why do so many people get butthurt over engine swaps? And man, there is more hate for LS swaps here than there is for the 'ruining' of a Porsche with a V-8......The LS motor is awesome. Go buy a car and do what you want with it. The social media generation thinks too much of itself, kids these days seem to think their approval is required. It isn't. The best swap I've ever seen was an LS in a Supra......because it pissed so many people off. lol.....great stuff.
***** There's a ton of Cayman/911 engine swaps. I think Matt had one. You can get a used one. It's probably a better choice because it's cheaper and easier to install. One could also tune the stock engine. It's not like the swaped engine makes 1000+ HP
That Toyota Avalon driver that pulled off to the shoulder deserves praise! I wish more drivers would do that or at least pull into the right lane instead of going the exact below the speed limit as the driver to the right of them.
Needs more tuning. Got dead spots on the throttle unless that was a semi-cold start and when he returned back but this is a very damn well good swap. Bout time someone didn't LS swap a car for a change. I can respect this car and the build. I'd totally daily drive this in all weather conditions. Congrats to the builder!
Interesting swap. It sounds awesome! Never would've thought someone would stick a V8 in a Cayman. It looks like it drives great too. Mid engine precision and big V8 power all in one. Dear Santa... lol.
so, any one have an idea of the best way to blow the motor on my ladies Cayman? it needs to look like an accident...
Edward Feenman massive high rev burnout big shot of nos fill the cylinder full off gas and say it was not firing
Ask the owner of this car that managed to blow it so quickly. Having more money than sense seems to be a good way.
Money shift?
I'm curious how the owner killed it...Was it like multiple track days or like I changed the oil 8k miles ago and I flogged it in 110 degree weather... Or 87 octane is best for performance...

If I lived in CA or even in the US, I would buy this right now for 70k. True bargain in my mind.
For real. The power and no performance of the engine along with Porché's legendary racetrack handling. Pretty great combo.
Nice way to start the day. I was going to say this is heresy in a Porsche, but when you hear it, it's like heaven.
Does it still have ABS, power steering and ESC (and power brakes)?
Or did all that have to go?
It still has ABS, and it has electric power steering from a Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 Race car. It does not have traction or stability control.
Sounds somewhat terrifying.
More fun without it anyway
Definitely.
Well good thing is mid engine and not rear like the 911. I heard those try to kill you with stability off.
This is so cool. This is one of the reasons why I love the automotive world. Awesome build.
Unusual sound for a Coyote engine! Must be the short exhaust pipes, probably directly from header to muffler.

exactly ha!
A Porsche has never sounded so good!!! And those flat 6's can sound great.
Jesus, how much does a porsche motor cost if this is a $100k build to put the coyote motor in it and it was cheaper than a porsche motor
THe Coyote crate motor is $15,000. A Porsche 3.8L Motor is $30,000 and a 4.0L motor, what you'd need to get more power than this, is $70,000.
Hardcaslte I spent $25k on my 3.8 when my engine blew due to an IMS bearing failure
Which means if you blow it up again all the work is done and just add new 15 K motor. Cool livery and awesome sounding motor= win. Extra points for unique and non LS high revving V-8 and funny looks.
TheSmokingTire no the coyote crate motor is 11

wait wait wait. $70k INCLUDING the Cayman? So total $70k?
Everybody needs one of these.
I think Matt's going to need a cigarette after this.
irritablearchitect yep and he has even quit! Lol
And a mullet
Change the body to a gt3rs and engine from a gt350 and this would be my dream car
James Mac hell no. the 4.0 flat six sounds sexier and revs so much smoother and up to 9000 AND has a lower center of gravity and I assume it weighs less. The 911r is the perfect car.
Agree, when you have something like a RS or a R why would you have an engine from a Mustang (which is not as good as yours) in it? lol
Change it to a 718, maybe even with the gt350's engine, would be perfect. The Flat Six Engines are kind of to holy to change.
+Farhan Chowdhury An Aluminator can reliably rev to 8000 RPM with proper valve train and tuning. Plus that TQ curve.
seems like a lot of work to put a V8 in it ....
Because Ford modular engines are fucking huge. I'd curious to find out the reasoning for going Ford over LS. I would think an LS would fit better in the engine compartment already provided.
Mike D aluminator us a factory fully forged motor.
WildSandwich Not to mention the price difference between them. The 5.0 is cheaper.
+allanb3222 No, you are wrong. Matt, said the Aluminator cost $14,000 to the customer. A fully dressed LS3 cost less than $10,000 www.chevrolet.com/performance/crate-engines/e-rod-ls3.html?cmp=OLA_DISPLAY_9516382_129352777_302958530_67918104
funkingitup Compared to the original Porsche engine that came with it or an upgraded one, the 5.0 is still cheaper..
Wow, this is a very cool build!
This is an interesting concept. But for such a complex and expensive swap, I would have gone the extra mile and went with a 4.0 Porsche flat 6.
slaWterCH 4.0 Flat 6 engines on their own cost such a stupid amount of money. €30,000 for a used engine.
That 4.0 would still be a ticking time bomb that costs way more than this engine or ls transplant not to mention how cheap parts are if something breaks on the domestic motors
very unique build. I like it. Don't listen to the "but, it's a Porsche!" haters.
Sounds badass!!! Just like my 2012 gt mustang😉👍🏻
This look like the most fun you've had driving any car!
I adore how often slower people are mindful of faster people around there. Anywhere in the Midwest and they'd go slower to spite you and flip you off like you're the biggest piece of shit on the planet for not wanting to do 10-20mph under the speed limit.
lol, feeling like a NASCAR. Never thought I would hear someone saying that when sitting in a Porsche. The guy who daily drive this thing is a maniac
This is slicker than owl shit
Richard Swagger lmao !!
Richard Swagger finer than a frogs hair
Why do so many people get butthurt over engine swaps? And man, there is more hate for LS swaps here than there is for the 'ruining' of a Porsche with a V-8......The LS motor is awesome.
Go buy a car and do what you want with it. The social media generation thinks too much of itself, kids these days seem to think their approval is required. It isn't.
The best swap I've ever seen was an LS in a Supra......because it pissed so many people off. lol.....great stuff.
Why didn't they just put in a engine from a 911?
It's much easier to do and the engine is probably lighter.
West Senkovec $$$$
West Senkovec bcz a Porsche engine is 2-3x more expensive
Alex B. not a used one
***** There's a ton of Cayman/911 engine swaps. I think Matt had one. You can get a used one. It's probably a better choice because it's cheaper and easier to install. One could also tune the stock engine. It's not like the swaped engine makes 1000+ HP
putting a standard 911 engine in a cayman is about the same price and you get far less horsepower.
That Toyota Avalon driver that pulled off to the shoulder deserves praise! I wish more drivers would do that or at least pull into the right lane instead of going the exact below the speed limit as the driver to the right of them.
This is ridiculous, and stupid, and really fucking cool.
Imagine a PDK version of that car.
So, a little faster around a track to brag about, and a little less exciting to drive?
Good paddles are a hell of a lot of fun
Interesting swap. It sounds awesome! Never would've thought someone would stick a V8 in a Cayman. It looks like it drives great too. Mid engine precision and big V8 power all in one. Dear Santa... lol.
The Porsche motor was too expensive so he spent $100k on a v8 swap?!?! Maybe I misheard something, but either way there is MUCH WANT for this car.
Rum Runner S2K The 4.0l Porsche engine would have costed him 70k. This one costed him 14k.
@@europlebr3216 plus it's probably more reliable and parts are gonna be cheaper if something does break
I hit like button within about 5 seconds, very nice.
