    I've been watching a lot of videos on guitar editing in different DAWs because I'm frustrated that Pro Tools seems to be way behind when it comes to ease of performing this task. Reaper and Cubase seem much easier and intuitive, ESPECIALLY with the slip editing and being able to just click and drag the region to move it forward or back and not affect the rest, instead of having to use a keyboard command to nudge sample by sample. Seeing your warp and fade adjustments was also really great to watch, and makes a strong argument for using Cubase! Great work man!

    • @grimzee

      Yes I know exactly what you mean, can be frustrating at times. There is a bunch of features in Ableton I wish they had in Cubase but for now I just have to do work arounds haha.

    LOVED THE CONTENT!! how would you approach SUUUPER tight djenty guitar editing? like that after the burial's neo soul song, that has really tight robotic guitars lol

    • @grimzee
      @grimzee  2 роки тому

      Thanks so much man! Getting that super tight robotic sound tends to be a much easier process since you don't have to worry about preserving the realism. For example you can chop off the start and tail ends of each note to get a more staccato sound. You also would have to worry about fading the notes in and out, they can have hard cut offs haha. I hope that helps! Cheers

How am i able to identify the pick of a note from the decay of the previous note. Sorry if it's a silly question, i'm a beginner in this whole metal production thing. Thanks in advance! :D

      Are you writing a DI track? Try zooming in and out and you may be able to visually identify the thickness increase of pick attack. You can also just listen over and over and watch the cursor move along to help you find it.

    • @grimzee
      @grimzee  2 місяці тому +1

      Hey Russ ill usually set my warping algorithm to "Elastique - Time" i find that yields the least amount of artifacts. A lot of the artifacts introduced by this method are hidden once the DI is run through the amp sim

    Nice and useful video. Do you edit both left and right guitars to the grid? Don't you lose width, stereo or wall feeling that way? Thanks in advance.

    • @grimzee
      @grimzee  Рік тому +1

      If you over do it and make the left and right guitars 100% the same in terms of how the transients/waveforms look, you definitely will loose some of the width. I like to make them really close but never 100%, for example I might leave the left guitars tail longer than the right to increase the perceived stereo width. Hope that helps!

    I just don't understand this perfection craving. If you want perfect fast noise - just use sampled guitars. They are much easier to edit and process. Gonna sound just as good, if not better. Live music is valuable for inherent human touch. Dynamics, imperfections are supposed to be there. Rant off. Excellent video. Thanks for taking your time to do it!

    Really sad that heavy metal is approached this way now so often. To the point that, in order to create an “acceptable” recording, you have to butcher it to the teeth with editing and extract all the humanity out of it, otherwise it’s perceived as “unprofessional”. That is fucked up.
    Heavy metal is characterized by precision… in editing. Apparently not in playing.

    • @tylercrews9025
      @tylercrews9025 7 місяців тому

      it's really not that big of a deal. people have been editing for a while even on tape. it's just one of those things where if it makes it sound better, and gets the same point across, why not use it? also you still have to lay down good takes before you edit, time aligning is hardly ever altering a whole lot, so I'd hardly consider it a "cheat" if you know what I mean.

    • @majav15mg
      @majav15mg 6 місяців тому

      @@tylercrews9025 why does it sound better? Where did this standard develop where inevitable aspects of any human performance are now considered undesirable?

    • @tylercrews9025
      @tylercrews9025 6 місяців тому

      @@majav15mg Long story short, modern musicians who are against editing often don't understand it fully and are usually complacent, egocentric, and lazy performers. Truly practiced musicians are extremely critical of their performances and often point out things that are too small to warrant completely re-recording for, and so they lose the ego and just fix it with a computer, because who cares. If a musician gets upset because their takes needed to be edited, it's a good sign that they're probably incapable of taking criticism or they just have a bad ear.

    • @majav15mg
      @majav15mg 6 місяців тому

      @@tylercrews9025 That’s complete nonsense brother.
      You still insist that natural and inevitable aspects of human performances are somehow “flaws” of inherently lower quality that need to be fixed…
      …and that the edit-butchered agglomeration of snippets at the end is a “good product”. I completely disagree with that,
      No classical recording would be taken seriously if it was recorded that way. Rife to the teeth with cuts and edits and takes where every little note was recorded separately. Or extreme multitracking to create something you’d need many more musicians for.
      And people do care immensely. I want to listen to a PERFORMANCE. Not a computer project. But to each their own.
