Beautiful painting. Thanks for sharing your collection and thoughts. Kuratake has the pigment details on their websites. Lightfastness depends on so many things like paper (like swatching :) and painting style, so it's hard to take nehonga(sp?) style paints and use them as western watercolours and expect them to behave the same. The window test helps, but with so much changes of temperature and humidity, it's less a Lightfastness test and more a permanence test. For my Lightfastness tests on an interior wall that gets several hours of direct sunlight, Kuratake are holding up the same as Rembrandt and W&N for the same pigments. I haven't had a chance to try other Japanese brands yet.
Thank you! and thank you for adding your thoughts- really interesting about your lightfastness tests too. Good point about expecting the traditional paints to behave as we are used to- these paints are unique in their own way and not any sort of substitute for others that we might be using. Totally unique and beautiful because of it. D xx
I have found them here on my German Amazon site. But there should be something available very similar on other sites. The US Amazon has something which looks similar and the (very long link) is: www.amazon.com/dp/B0D22HHFLJ?ref=cm_sw_r_cso_sms_apin_dp_DS71V6N74QG3E3SPHNVR&ref_=cm_sw_r_cso_sms_apin_dp_DS71V6N74QG3E3SPHNVR&social_share=cm_sw_r_cso_sms_apin_dp_DS71V6N74QG3E3SPHNVR&starsLeft=1&skipTwisterOG=1&newPreview=1&th=1 These are PERFECT for the size of pans. I watched a Madden Grimes video recently where he conducted a lightfast test. He also said that pigment information is available on their website IIRC 😁
It is so lovely! I see that the next comment down has kindly added that Blick's seem to have the colour- I am in Germany so it is difficult to know what is available and where. Blick's seem to be worth a try. Deb xx
Thank you for your help Anne! That colour seems to be a favourite- nice to know where it is available in the US and I can help my US Patreons too. Thank you! D xx
Hi, I love those colours ❤ Thankyou for sharing 😊 Could you possibly send me a link for the metal containers please? Can’t seem to find tins with the required dimensions on Amazon 🤔
You are most welcome! I have actually left a link in the comments for both my local (German) Amazon and the US one. Let me know if you cannot find it. Deb xx
That could work actually! To be honest, the magnet seem to be okay but the self adhesive is a bit dodgy. I think that a dab of better glue will get the job done. But I love the idea of Blu tack if magnets were not available! Would solve the problem in a plastic box too! Deb xx
I find when I try to get the effect of gouache with these, the result is very sticky… so while they CAN be gouache-like, it doesn’t seem to be a very practical method. Does anyone else have the same experience and perhaps a solution or two?
Absolutely spot on and this is why I maintain that they are not a substitute for gouache. They fit into our kit somewhere between western watercolours and gouache. It is pigment dependent too to a certain extent. Some are more 'gouache' like than others. The binders are what is making the stickiness and there is a definite sweet spot for the amount of paint that can be used. The slight stickiness also makes layering of other mixed media products more difficult. Deb xx
Love It!
Thanks! Deb xx

Could you put a link for the palettes you use, please? I have the kuretake paints and their cardboard box is about to give out! Thanks!

Thanks! I shall take a look (a proper look might be needed!). Deb xx
I wonder what the colors look like on rice paper?
Nice color choices for your pallet(s)❤
That is an excellent question! Thanks! There are some gorgeous colours to choose from too D xx
That #99 Azure Blue Green... I'm in love!!! But alas, I can't find it ANYWHERE available in the US 😭😭😭
Blick's has some single Kuretake pans ... I put the Turquoise Green in my cart! PG7 AND PB 28 ??? I think! 🎉 Happy painting!!! 😊

I am going to start putting my finger in the paint every time I paint. Great tip!😂

@@debbievongrabler-crozier2646 Thankyou 🙂
I wonder if Blu tack putty would be better than the magnets. It sounds like hard to know if the magnet is strong enough when purchasing online.

Ooh liner brush tutorial
Your wish is my command! I shall make sure that it happens! Deb xx
