Thank you for your thoughtful video. Please don’t feel bad about people misinterpreting your art piece, I imagine it’s impossible to make art that won’t be interpreted as political somewhere on the planet! I enjoyed seeing which colors you are exploring and look forward to seeing you continue to work with them in future videos.
thank you for your kind words! really appreciate it 🙏😊yeah it's true, i have no control over how people interpret what i draw, and i never expected this 🥹
@@ultramarine_finest Thank you for sharing your art & favorite supplies! I don’t know if this is a problem everywhere in the world, but in America, people with a certain viewpoint have been given free passes by the news media to get personally offended by people with alternative perspectives. It’s honestly gotten ridiculous, not to mention over half the US voted for Trump bc of their convictions. The beauty of democracy is the pendulum of leadership can swing back-and-forth over the years. We should respect other people‘s opinions on their candidates and not only support people who agree with what we think. The fact that people felt the need to say something to you shows how self-centered our society has gotten.😢❤
@@aschilpe I understand what you mean and i agree with you. i have never lived in the US, only had two short visits before. I noticed even some of my distant family members who moved to the US, changed the way they think very drastically. it's unnerving to see people support politicians like sport teams.
This was such a lovely and calming video, also full of inspiration. My cat also used to drink my paint water, it might be the sound that attracts them. Your solution was genius!
So enjoyable to watch. You are inspiring, and I look forward to seeing what you do next year. I had a lot of fun "enjoying the squeeze" of filling my own Art Toolkit folio palette, inspired from watching you do yours. That palette has certainly been one of my favourite art supplies this year. Happy Holidays Ultramarine!
I have a suggestion for you regarding cutting your brushes. I had to do this after ordering the wrong length of brush and cut the end at an angle. After smoothing it off with fine-grained sandpaper, I now have a brush with a useful mark-making tool on the end. The wood has been laid bare, which I quite like, but in your case, if you prefer, it can be touched up with black acrylic paint.
that's really smart! I was thinking maybe nail polish, but acrylic seems like a good idea too! i don't need to buy a bottle of black nail polish just for this :p thank you!
These are my favorite types of videos I'm just a hobby artist, but it's always interesting to see what supplies other artists use. Good luck with your oil pastel and gouache explorations!! I think I'm going to try sewing my sketchbooks the way you did and see how it goes 😆I usually just bookbind them, but I got a sewing machine this year!
Your way of using the metal palette is brilliant, same with the cloth around the water jar! Thanks for sharing these tips! And all the pets for your cat, the white toes are so cute :'D
Ohh you have inspired me to get a sewing machine to make my own sketchbooks. I’m terrible at hand sewing but I have been wanting to make my own sketchbooks.
that's wonderful! I got a sewing machine this year to mend my clothes, I learned about visible mending and loved the idea. using it to make sketchbooks was a surprise bonus 😊i also didn't want to spend the time for hand sewing, machine is sooo much more efficient!
Thank 😮you for your informative video. I enjoy your soothing voice. Would you share where you got your favorite Schmeike palettes it looks very useful.
thank you! i got that palette from Jacksons almost two years ago. I couldn't find it on jacksons anymore but this artist has a video unboxing it: ua-cam.com/video/vRLDisO25QQ/v-deo.html I don't know if they will come back in the future 🤔
Love the video so much! Some information for you - royal talens makes sketchbooks in pure white color too! I made a mistake of purchasing a white one [in a cork cover] instead of ivory!
oh yes i heard about that they started to make white sketchbooks! but i didnt see any in my local store. I will check if i can order online when i finish my current one, only a few pages left now. thank you!
@@ultramarine_finest no problem! if you'll end up looking online I know for sure that the cork, art deco, still life and milk maid covers have snow white paper inside for sure. btw loved the sewing sketchbook tip, i've been sewing clothes for years but never came up with the idea of stitch pages together!
Thank you! I wanted to add that Lamy Safaris are great for sketching. You basically only need one pen because the nibs are easily interchangeable and cheap. I can also recommend the Platinum Preppy (5$) and it can be eyedroppered. It seals airtight and is great for document inks because the nib never dries out. I‘m also located in Europe (Germany) and can easily order M. Graham paints nationally. Let me know if you need help.
yes you're right! i have many different nib sizes for my lamy safari. may i as which website you order mgrams paint from? i compared the price from jacksons uk and us and it seems to be a big difference 🥲
these videos are so dangerous because I always finish them with 50 things on my wish list 😅 the crayons for figure sketching is genius & I've just finished all of my neutral inks so might give that brown a try!! and why are cats like that, mine lovess taking bites out of paper so I can never leave out anything important haha can't wait for the oil paint journey - make sure you have proper ventilation and a dedicated place for drying far far far away from where you sleep 😭
haha how funny! your cat must love the mouth feel of paper xD and thank you for watching 😊i just borrowed some books from the library about oil painting, set up, and safety... and im thinking to store the paintings on the balcony but i also worry that they'll become fire hazards in summer time 🥲still not sure what to do yet 😅
xD i know! I bought many super popular colors from daniel smith. undersea green, green apatite genuine, cascade green, lunar blue, buff titanium etc... in 15ml tubes too! 😅and i don't use any of them. maybe i should arrange a giveaway or something, these paints deserve better owners than me 🥹
Love your cat. I have a black street cat and she loves to sit on my laptop, paper (I am writing on or drawing on ...). Her name is UPS- which stands for Useless Piece of ... Thanks for sharing! Merry Xmas and hope your medical issue gets sorted out!!! Cheers!!!
of course! Kimlan Hsueh Hwa Niang (Fermented Rice) it's a sweet condiment from Taiwan, usually available in asian supermarkets. It's pretty sweet, I find it hard to finish a whole jar just by myself 😅it's better to share it with some friends.
I havn't bought any canvas yet, i'm still learning how to prime and store them etc :p maybe i will try masonite with canvas (im not even sure if that's the right name 😅but i think i saw something similar in the art store) and for acrylic gouache i only tried black and white for value study, still not sure if i like them or not 🥹
Thanks for your suggestions. I have one also: I use the same airtight palette and the only watercolor paints that got moldy were my Mgraham. Green colors. Has that happened to any of you? My other brands/colors were fine, just this brand. To clarify, it happens that I only have greens in this brand.
ahh that sucks ☹️ i have kept my mgraham in a dry bookshelf throughout the summer months, and never had any issues with mold. I have viridian, sap green, phthalo green and permanent green pale.
I feel bad that you had someone who thought you had political motives for a wonderful painting of a rocket taking off. There’s nothing indicating politics in the picture. And one look at your channel and stuff has no indications of that at all. That’s like saying a painting of a city is political and promoting the destruction of wildlife. Sorry for the long comment. My point is is that you shouldn’t have to feel bad for painting a rocket ship of all things. Anyways I really love the painting ❤️
thank you so much for your support 🥹 apparently that rocket was from spaceX founded by Elon Musk... i just had no idea, but i also understand that people are emotionally charged during the election period 😮💨 it's not something i can control so im not too worried about it 🫠thank you again for your comments 😊
Don't feel stupid for your beautiful painting. Why do Americans have to make everything political? You were not thinking of that when you painted the picture, so to have people push that meaning onto your painting is just ridiculous. Enjoy your painting for the moment you painted it. ♥
I'm sorry if i give that impression, all the products were bought by myself with my own money (except for the empty box at 10:39) No company asked or paid me to make this video or to be included in this video. I'm just trying to reflect on my preferences regarding art supplies and hopefully, i can spend my money more rationally in the coming year. cheers :)
Your advice of putting a cloth round the water jug is fantastic! I‘ll try that, thank you! 🎨❤️
yeah! it's very handy :p

People are far too sensitive. Some seem to look for things to be offended by. It must be exhausting.
