Back in the early/mid 80's Canyon Lake had some of the BEST wall and grotto dives in Texas. The vis was 15-20' usually and there were places with sheer walls 40', 50' and more. Several of the grottos captured air. You could be down at 40', swim in one like that big one in the beginning, surface and chat with your buddy. Just terrific dives. We never ever went in very far, always kept the opening in view, Cavern Diving Specialty. Travis has a few areas like this, mainly down by the dam at LCRA park, under Hippie Hollow, and at the dive park. But if you liked wall dives and grottos, Canyon was your dive.
It still is one of the best lakes for wall diving lol…the vis has gone down a little bit recently because of the lower lake levels but over the past few years it has been amazing with great vis! I have a few more videos on this channel about these dives, feel free to check them out!
@@scottbauerbelow That's one big benefit of the lake being down so much. The silt will dry up and blow away, so when the lake fills, especially a flood, once the water calms down the vis will be amazing and nothing to stir up.
I miss paddle boarding. Gave mine to my daughter. Possibly may be moving. It's a scary thought how places in the world that never flood, flooded, and places with regular rain are in a drought, like here in Hawaii. Our mild change of seasons was on time a while ago. Summer heat. Autumn cool down. Winter rains. Spring showers getting ready for summer. Now our summers linger into winter. Winter's only a month of rain. Spring has its moments, like this year it rained up until July. Climate change is a spooky thing. Great video!
Our droughts are cyclical bit this time the water jn the lake seems to be lower, my guess is because of recent development and a larger population using the water
Very interesting, I've seen a lot of still photos from the news but this is the first video I've seen. I'll be adding a link for people to watch yours on my next video about the area. Are you located in TX?
The lake wasn’t there in 1913, it was just a river valley back then, the dam was built in the late 1950’s and the lake didn’t fill completely until 1968

Great video! We led glow trips there all summer.
That actually sounds really interesting
Crazy! Would be cool to explore more of them!
There is plenty more, there was a decently or promising one that we didnt check out
First appearance since the 60's

That sounds great, thanks! Yeah I am located nearby
I love living in such a beautiful area
Me too! This part of Texas is beautiful
Never would've thought all these caves exist!
There are quite a few that I didn’t even get to check out
The entire Hill Country has an enormous number of caves in limestone formations. I used to go caving in wild caves.
The caves and grottos are cool to see.
This is crazy me and my son and my girl is just out there. I never knew what lies beneath.
How low is the lake in now November? I need to put on hiking boots again. Where is this? By the dam?
The lake is still just as low, this is not so much by the dam, it is in an area called party cove
What was the water level at the time of this video? Just curious if the cave is still accessible now
This was last fall so the water level was slightly higher then…they are still accessible
So it's been that low at least 1913 and most likely lower multiple times before that, earths natural cycle is both beautiful and scary.

What boat ramp is this closest to?
Yeah it was unfortunately
snakes? no thanks!
