I’ll be buying a truck in the next 6-12 months. Only looking at trucks with APU’s and Espar (or similar) heaters. That should be a good indicator of lower idle hours which are one of the biggest killer of engines, emissions systems and take-home pay!
I just bought a late 2017 cascadia with 600k miles for $65k at 11%. 747 credit. $49k financed. $1700/month. Local truck. 40-50k miles a year. Engine hours are low. Has APU.
I wasn’t aware some of these used units were $140k+. I thought I overpaid.
You should've waited for the market to drop that truck usually around 35k with that many miles you did over pay
Interest is Very High and Depend is you got A New One Box. One Box is 10k without install.
Truck Should last until 900k
This must be Canadian because $160K for a used semi with 500K miles is way high in the US.
Yea because I know Cascadia 4yrs old 500k miles usually go for 50k to 70k from what I know
Right I check recently. 4 yr is 52-74k mileage dependant
@@MS-ql8ek yes it is Canadian and we are always over priced here
I worked in Operations with a heavy / medium transport company. We ran our own depot & had fuel tanks onsite. These were used to fuel up the smaller vehicles & often our Sub Contractors accepted part payment in fuel to get moving after they were loaded up. We had proper Amenities with showers, canteen & meal rooms. As a new person I got to hear the woes of Owner Operators who worked huge hours but were often awaiting payment. We ensured ALL drivers could get proper rest breaks whilst their loads were unloaded or loaded. Often drivers refilled their water tanks, had a cooked meal & rested their bodies at the same time. Tyre Checks / air fills were done by yard staff & often the fuel top up was enough to get them moving until the next drop off or until they were paid for their deliveries. Most of these Owner Operators were working from week to week & lived in their trucks most of the time.
Favorite trucking channel just hit 100k subs hell yeah
I’m new to even the thought of buying a truck and I’m so glad that I came across your videos. This is a tremendous help.
Thanks for the informative vids as always.
Thank you for this lesson. We are going to purchase a used truck and was only looking at the miles. So thank you.. I know what to look for now.
Paying for a new truck means you’re basically living to pay off debt, let’s say you had $300k cash, would you buy a truck and try and recover what you spent ? It’s not going to happen because trucking doesn’t pay enough and the equipment depreciates and falls apart !
ThaNx Ronan 1 month ago I bout a 2 yr kt680 171,000 6000 hrs $2000 a month OTR thaNx to your previous videos I'm glad I made the right choice, i was mainly looking for a truck with under 200k miles and not to old never minded the running hrs but now it's one of the first things I'm looking for and advising other ..happy belated birthday 🎂 🥳 🎉
💖💖💖💖 I love this channel and you are positive and I see it 💖💖💖💖
I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship were are you from?
Good presentation but i can say that i like for you to mention the value of military trucks vs the rest of the others
I find that it’s best to finance the most I can afford. Always new. Depreciation and interest allow me to show a business profit, just on loan. This doesn’t include no down time, no maintenance and better fuel mileage.
Could you make a video on the specking of a truck right from the order form from start to finish?
When buying used, look for a company with a great maintenance track record, one that wins awards for safety. call the company and find out all you can about their scheduled maintenance program. I.E. a and b service intervals. Other than that, your advice is near perfect… thank you sir
The only thing I look at in a truck is how long the hood is
I would look at mileage and hours of idling when it comes to any semi truck if I was going to purchase one.
Yea! Peterbilt dealer in Mn. told me a month ago that my ‘15 579 with new crate engine 200k on it, new Michelins and just about everything that can be worn out at 800k has been addressed, way too much to list here, was worth 40k! LOL!!!!!!
Or buy a 40,000 dollar 20 year old truck and don’t worry about payments and interest rates
you will spend more..i got 94 flat top pete, 99 classic, 2022 peterbuilt 2022 t680.. yes the old trucks have no payments, but it cost me more in parts and most on downtime ..
@@TheDriller100 it’s still new give it a year or 2
And break down every month lol
My list
1) I can SEE the back of the engine standing on the ground by the firewall
2) Detroit Series 60 or N14
3)gears 3.90-3.70 for Detroit
3.42-3.30 for N14
4)APU and diesel heater
5)Price under 21k US
Bonus for wheelbase 280-325 inch
5.5 - 6.8 mpg. Extremely hard to have a breakdown for more than 30k. Way more comfortable than ANY new truck I have driven.
I run 50-65 mph and try not to idle. I do 92% of my maintenance and repair and have yet to see the truck that will save me enough fuel to pay for the mechanics NECESSITY to keep these new trucks on the road. I have hooked up our toter and pulled in about 60 trucks in the last 8 years. Which isn't too bad until you consider our fleet is 7 units and we only run 3 emissions trucks. 48 of my pulls were those new trucks. Computer gets upset, and truck can't make it in.
Hi Ronen can you do a video on CNG truck?
Hey I watch your videos a lot
I’m looking to buy Freightliner with x15 Cummins efficiency series
Can you guide a little on that please ?
Older looks better to me, but they aren’t as efficient as our new trucks of today. I get close to 7.5 MPG in the Freightliners at work.
My 2020 gets around 8.8mpg and my 2016 gets around 8mpg
$150k more for 1mpg 🤣 Glider Allday
Happy birthday to you
Who would you suggest the people who would buy your old trucks, and what is the most mileage you would ever buy a truck
Bro those numbers are wrong… the prices changed

_Yes, engine hours is extremely important, diesel engine. I was determined the life of the engine not the mileage, a truck that does not have an APU unit on it can end up being a trap, deceptive._
_I know for certain Detroit engines after 2018 is 15 to 20,000 engine hours before the bus or before you need a major overhaul, the Cummins engine after 2018 is 20,000 engine hours to 25,000 engine hours before the next complete overhaul_
_I don’t know anything about the Mac engines, Volvo engines, or the Paccer engines_
Why u always tried compare old vs new equipment... it's depends what u hauling...in my case 1996 old peterbuilt do the job well, I overhaul the engine for 18k. Don't need 8 plus gallons per miles for make a good check.
I bought my 2001 379 for 40k and overhauled the c15 for 35k
So I spent the same as what they do in interest alone
And don’t have to worry about a payment and get to bank the whole paycheck
Does anyone know how to check the hours of a truck? I’ve seen some videos talking about it, but they don’t explain how do you find out how many hours the truck had been running, the truck that I drove before don’t have that information on the dash board gauges
Every truck brand is different go to flip through all the setting until you find it
Could you make a video for new drivers and how can they get their first job? It's really difficult to land a job without experience
I’m in the same boat
That not true. Companies will train you and give you a job
@@jamesball8519 I've interviewed with challenger and another company that trains new drivers and they failed me their road test even though i had everything perfect. The moment they hear that i am a new driver haven't been driving since i got my license, they reject me.
@@EricEric-ne2ix keep in touch if you get anything that doesn't have handbombing, let me know. I'll do the same.

I work for Vista trans v good company
I'm saving money to buy a 3-4 year-old truck (cascadia or pete 579) for flatbed/stepdeck and I really want my truck with a diesel APU because It's supposed to have way less idling hours than a truck without it. What do you think about diesel APUs?
Nothing to think about they allow you to live in the truck without idling which saves fuel and engine wear.
Ok so I want to ask a question what is the best way to go for someone just looking to start driving? Some of us will not have 40-50k put away as we just started, but if we are in the position where we need our own truck what is our beat option?
I have 2018 new gen cascadia with 560k miles with only 10500 hrs on the engine 0% idle 😎
What is the oldest truck in your company fleet.
Used 2007 or Later Detroit or Cat.
He Trippin
$15k-50k
Glider
Tune PDI or Pittsburgh Power.
Right now looking at the trucking industry I will not get into debt. I will prefer buying an older 60 series spend 15.000 thousand dollars to get right than buying these new truck that was build to get mechanics rich.
smart man! the only ones that will survive what's happening now are the guys with paid of equipment and older trucks. wait till trucks get even cheaper then buy.
Good info here but the title says When should you buy a truck?
Make more
Good news is 2018 trucks are cheaper than 160k usd.
Seriously, how long were those two going to shake hands?
Wait so the first example the guy has to lay 190,000 K over 6 years and then pay 50 k in interest !? So what’s the actual point of doing this so you can just use the truck does the profit outweigh all these payments ?
When I buy a truck I will either buy a new truck, or a pre emission truck. Why? Good question, let's do some math. Pre emission will cost you 20-50 grand, then up to 50 grand to correctly getting it on the road (fixing), so you are around 100 grand. Your 4 year old, 165 grand, then you will be putting around 30 grand in fixing to put it on the road, so your at 195 grand. For 50 g more, you can get a brand new truck, with a warranty, warranty is a piece of mind driving down the road. Well worth the 50 g. That's just my imput on that.
What cost would you have for a pre emission truck if it is well taken care of? I'm thinking about going down that route. May work up to paying off a nice one for 75k and up.
@@MGTOW_GHOST honestly go for one that needs a rebuild, so you have a new engine. I really like knowing about the true history.
@@michaelcopeland8985 Yea that sounds fair too. Everybody don’t save all of their repair and service receipts to know what has been done with the truck.
Service also,or Abuse
What about for foreigner can they get job
60 months is 5 years
I would never go used again. It's a money pit, new comes with shiny warranties.
I am confusing 245k is canadian dollars or U S dollars ? Does any one know, I appreciate it
Canadian
Thanks❤
I don’t advised to buy used truck but buy risk 70% percent. New truck risk 0 percent
I will buy new 0 miles.

No one buys trucks the price will go down period
I got a 2016 cascadia for 60k still going strong 💪🏻

$160 000 Down Payment $40 000 leaves $120 000 not $110 000 🙄 but what's $10 000 🙃
Bro all those numbers sounds crazy I make $1 a mile and I can't see myself paying that much, my goal is buy a truck for 10 to 20k and rebuild the whole thing after I'm become OO maybe I can think about yhise numbers
The reason this guy's numbers suck is because he is a Canadian. They like acting as if everything is so expensive and then at the same time they get paid shit and pay super high taxes. It's a total loser country. They don't broadcast that they are Canadian because then nobody would view the channel. He probably makes as much doing UA-cam as his loser trucking company pays him.
Or you could buy a $50,000 lunatic truck and lower your risk.
Buying a used truck got to go with a Pre Emissions Truck
New Truck go Glider Kit
Yeah I know they quit making them but
Just buy the Truck and finish it yourself because they quit making them don’t mean you got to quit making them
(Drivers) You doing a good job driver ! 😂
Or come up with start up costs of 50K and order a turn and burn Emissions truck
Nothing wrong with them until you stuck with the bill and it doesn’t run on your time and money
Lol 😂 Get you sum Steering Wheel Holder’s 😢😂
For You Steering Wheel Holders window shopping You need to get your money right first
Or keep up the good job at your leasing and being the best company girl/man you can lying on people not washing your bottom riding around paying other peoples taxes just starving out wishing on a star knowing your dead end job ain’t going to be given you that pat on your back
Yup you are screwed 🤪
Until then keep watching UA-cam trucking channels because you ain’t never going to get a truck
Don’t get mad at me it’s just life and that is that
Learn how to pronounce “Illinois”
If you buy a new truck for $250k zero down for 60 months it's gonna cost you $5300 to $5800 a month....I bought my truck for $5k at an auction 2 years ago, did an inframe at home for $5k and put a new turbo on for $1200 and I'm over 200k miles and my total repair and maintenance including the rebuild and turbo for 2 years has only been $23k that's including the trailer, oil changes, brakes, tires, small repairs. So I'm sitting at just under $1k a month for all that compared to the $7k a month you'd be paying for a new truck and trailer. Stacking up my cash to buy a new Peterbilt 389 with cash outright and then save $40k I would've spent on interest
