Well I’m happy to say I’m currently working on a video where I wear every single piece that is in my layering system and it should be coming out fairly soon!
Well the DAS isn’t truly waterproof, it just has a burly DWR and is synthetic, so while it’ll handle a light shower, for prolonged use in wet conditions a shell is definitely the play. So the shell I’d recommend would probably be the Dual Aspect just for its practicality of being able to accommodate more layers underneath.
Thanks for the review on the DAS Parka! Just how warm is it? How does it compare to the AlpLoft Parka in terms of warmth? Does the DAS Parka naturally thermoregulate by itself or do you constantly have to open/close it as it gets too warm or cold?
Hey there! So I did do a video that kinda compares the two jackets (ua-cam.com/video/KNnTC1LyUYI/v-deo.html) But to answer your question here, for straight up warmth the AlpLoft wins hands down. But in overall cold weather performance the DAS is way better because it does naturally thermoregulate! If you layer smart you can keep the DAS on without overheating.
I would say that more than likely it is slightly warmer on a technicality, as Patagonia looks at their jackets for overall warmth in all conditions. And because the DAS Parka is synthetic it holds an edge over down in damp conditions
I have the Das Parka and It's a great jacket and I love everything about it, but I really really hate the hand warmer pockets. Where I'm at up here in AK I use it for 40 to -15, and as a photographer doing my thang in the cold I NEED hand warmer pockets that fit a mans hands not a toddlers hands. Hand warmer pockets are `not big enough, and this thing is supposed to be a belay jacket...? I'm really bummed because again I really do love the jacket but my hands barely fit in the bottom hand warmer pockets, not to mentioned they're not lined at all, so with my landscape/seascape photography it creates a major problem, and forces me to wear thin gloves when I shouldn't have to. So bottom line one of thee greatest jackets ever made but the hand warmer pockets are a joke and are too small. Peace
thanks for pointing out that 10D issue in general
Mountain Equipment Fitzroy is the goat of these jackets
Hey bro ace video. In future would be great to see an jacket you talk about worn. Gives a much better idea of the fit. Cheers

In Your opinion which is the best hardsheel from Patagonia to protect DAS Parka??? Is DAS parka waterproof???

You mind sharing what size the jacket is and you height/weight I read it runs big and not sure what size to get.
I got a size Medium, for reference I’m 6ft and ~170lbs. The jacket is definitely supposed to fit a bit bigger just for fitting over layers
Is it warmer than the fitz-Roy? Patagonia claims that it is slightly warmer?
