As a jacket freak and tried many and spent too much, the Arcteryx Thorium hoody is da bomb! #1 Cerium for a light down that would also come in at the top, and again I've had a lot and the testing ground is AK. Thanks agin for another great review!
Thanks for mentioning the Rabb, thats the only other brand in comparison. I bought the REI stonehenge and going to compare it against the Beta Down to see the differnces. Great Vid thanks
Besides the stats, how do you rate them in terms of warmth? How does the Stellar do with its 5+ ounces compared to the others? And how many ounces of Down fill in the Beta Down?
The Stellar is incredibly warm for the weight. We have another female writer - Kate Agathon who did a write up on our website - Engearement.com it as well. I do not know how many ounces of down are in the Beta Down, but I would guess 5+ oz easily.
Great video!! Recently bought the Patagonia for £140 at cotswold outdoors. Very happy and couldn’t believe the price. Would love to see some british brands like Mountain Equipment, Rab and Montane on here
How do black diamond's puffies compare? Also, have you cross shopped into the hunting market? I would be curious to see how stone glacier, kuiu, sitka, first light, etc. Compare with the other outdoor brands.
I have a ton a of down jackets. I recently got myself a Jottnar Thorne down jacket and I absolutely LOVE IT! Its 750fp and hydrophobic down inside 90/10. You should def check it out.
I don’t think I’ll ever get the obsession with weight. Why would I pay more to have a less durable product? Yes it’s nice for backpacking but then you have to worry about every little branch you come across. Companies should offer more 30+ denier jackets I think we can handle a few extra ounces lol
Yea!! 1) Happy early birthday to you! Got any plans for this year? I always find it hard to get friends together on the day after Christmas LOL. 2) So glad this video was helpful!!! Take care!
@ no plans because I didn’t request off work 😂 but that’s ok, I need more money anyways for college. I hope you have a good bday, more life and many more years to come!
@@MarcoGarcia-et7zw I feel you bro! I am not taking the day off either (usually I would and go split boarding) But my wife and I just built a house and need to pay that mortgage! LOL. Thank you so much for the wonderful note. Much love to you!
I bought a microlight alpine last year. Very pleased with it, but it is on the heavier side for a down jacket. I plan to use it for many years though, and it looks like it will handle that just fine.
Sean, I also wear ex large in Arc’teryx but was looking at the alpha parka and nuclei sv parka to wear casually. Should I size down to large since they are normally meant for belaying? Have you ever tried either of these on and if so how was the fit. Great channel and good work by the way.
Hello friend! Thanks for the nice note! I am bummed, as I do not have experience with either of those, so I can not offer legit advice. Sorry! I hope you get a chance to try them on and find the best fit.
I have the Arcteryx Alpha parka, and am usually a size LG in their jackets, I did not size down (got the LG) and it fits great (as you might imagine). I'm 6'1", 195 lbs.
I'm glad I watched all the way to the end, where you clarified that those are all DOG poop bags in your pockets. I was going to suggest more fiber and less coffee... But thanks for the concise but thorough reviews!
I have a question for you, I know you get numerous requests about jackets but do you have any information or thoughts on the company Sitka? I was thinking about the Ridgeland or Rover jackets. Would value your feedback on them. Keep up the great reviews.
Hello! Thanks for the nice note. I have a few bow hunter friends who swear by Stika, but I have not personally used their gear yet. I will look into those jackets and see if we can get some testing going. Thanks for taking the time to leave a kind and helpful note. Take care!
Would you say the Beta is better than the older Fission SV? I have the Fission and love it, I also have the Cerium and love that one too but each piece has its time and place
I have a twelve year old Fission SV that is starting to show its age. I've only been able to try on the Beta synthetic insulated in store. The latter is definitely lighter than the former, and it doesn't feel nearly as durable or as warm. I'm trying to find the Beta down insulated in store before ordering online. The drop hood, drop pockets, weatherproofness, warmth, articulated fit and length of the Fission SV were awesome. The Fission SV was my first Arc'teryx purchase and made me a fan of the brand's products.
You know, I did not get to test any Canada Goose for this year. I am sure it would have done well. I was aiming at USA available lightweight down jackets for this video. I know there are a lot of other GREAT offerings out there and I would love to incorporate them in the next video. Take care!
Hey, I am a BIG fan of Rab and have been for years. However, I did not have any current Rab down jackets to test out, therefore offer in this review. I want to keep this review as current as possible and not rely on past years (which I have many) down jackets. - to be as accurate as possible for the viewers. FWIW - I am a big fan of Rab and think they make excellent products. Take care!
They are both great. If you don’t mind the shiny face fabric, TNF is great. If you want more subtle aesthetic and recycled fabric, Patagonia is the way to go.
Interesting points on each parka. Try the new LL Bean WIND CHALLENGER ski parka. Fully adjustable helmet compatible hood, pit zips, Down Tek DWR treated 650 fill GOOSE down, woven baffles, NOT sewn-thru, 4 outside pockets including small left forearm ski pass pocket, double layers on hood, shoulders and elbow-to-wrist areas plus a double pull hem drawstring to keep out wind and spindrift snow. At $349. it's reasonably priced. I'm 5' 10" and 180 pounds so a size Large lets me wear a medium base layer, heavy Norwegian wool sweater and, if ever needed, a down vest. Without the added down vest and with adequate insulated pants, boots and mittens I'm good to -15 F. at least.
Would love to see this for synthetic insulation layers
I can put that together :)
@@Engearment please do, Down has proven to be too fragile, would love to see synthetic durable jackets that aren’t too bulky, thanks in advance!
Need the mountain equipment oreus in there!
@@Engearmentyay! I only wear synthetic insulation.
+1
RAB Cirrus Alpine, so comfy.
Another solid review, and the drop pockets reference never disappoint!
Glad you liked the drop pocket info! I freakin love em. 😆😎
Love your content. Has helped my figure out sizing/fit and pro/con’s of each jacket.
Thank you
Thanks! I am glad the video helped you out! Really appreciate your stoke too!! Take care :)

Superb overview and as always great presentation from Sean.

You normally wear a hard shell on top of it😊 that functions as the protection
Great review. Between the Patagonia & Arcterxy, which is your favorite and why?
Me and you have the same birthday! So cool!!! Been wanting to get one of these for my bday and this video motivated me! Thank you so much!!

whats your opinion on patagonia jackson glacie jacket
How do you not include anything from Feathered Friends? Do you pay for these or are they given to you???
A wery good review of fine jackets. Down patrol hoodie is mine.
Thanks you very much! That is a FINE choice. Good on you friend!

The Down Sweater has 5.3 oz of fill for the last few years, quit the increase from 3.5 oz for previous years.
Yes, it’s definitely been a change in the amount of down they use! Thank goodness 🙌
Marmot often is solid bang for the buck, but…the cut is often short and squatty, in my opinion.

The OR Helium is really nice. Durable and warm with a nice neck lining compared to the Arc’teryx. Cerium seems cheaply made with a thin zipper.
Agreed - the OR Helium is an excellent jacket and underrated. OR gear is such a good value.
@@Engearment@Engearment What would give the Cerium a real run for the money?
What do u think of the brand fjal raven and rab?
both really good, they also belong in a video like this
Katabatic jackets are worth checking out too
Agreed! I need to get them in the next round. I used to go to their headquarters when it was next door to my gym in Lakewood.
No Mountain Equipment? They make great Down jackets
Aw can you bring this forward please want to score the best on black Friday 😂

The Stellar makes me want to lose weight. Because it is such a cool jacket, but it's too trim for me, unfortunately.
Arc’teryx is doing 30% off
Time to get a deal!
