Recently had a loud rattle noise from the cam belt area, took apart to have a look and it was the cam belt damper, the noise was the belt hitting the cam belt cover, managed to tighten up the belt tensioner and put it back together, oredered the whole belt kit from gates, and a water pump and fan belt. Gona replace it all tomorrow. Did discover the belt service intervals is only 50k, car has just hit 90k, id say when the garage done the belt change they just changed the cam belt.
how long did this take you from start to finish? I need to do my WP on my 97 GS-T, 46g3t engine as well.... I did the timing belt and WP 3 years ago but just got a leak and believe its coming from the weep holes, i posted up a inquiry in DSMtuners earlier today... I have the timing belt tool kit to hold cams in place, its just been so long since I did it, I dont want to mess up my timing cuz I remember it being complicated... I also dont have my grenade pin anymore, definitely tossed it, guess I gotta buy a new one huh?
I say about couple hours. I did took my hydraulic tensioner and use a bench grip vice then stick a align tool in the hole to keep it in place. Cam gear tool helps a lot
My eclipse 1g has a shirping sound and i suspect the water pump (4g63) it goes away when engine is warm and how easy is that job on this kinda engine 😁
First I thought something was going on at my bottom end then I decided to remove my serpentine belt and move all my pulleys sure enough it was the water pump lol

Exactly i got the same problem i thought was the tensioner
This just happened today for me I thought it would be hard but it looks pretty easy, I will be using this video to help me fix mine
