    Very useful summary - from the beginning, with some interesting speculation for progression of the eruption based on previous events . Thank you!.
    As a geologist I can only agree with your ‘wait and see’ advice. In my experience, all the educated geo-guesswork in the world is no match for Mother Nature and her bottomless bag of shabby tricks!

    Good to hear your views. I saw that the met office mentioned that the inflation has only dropped about 5cm, from the 35cm uplift. That's a bit concerning, as that means there is still an influx of magma that needs to go somewhere.

    Hello from southern California! Tomorrow is our 5th anniversary. We spent our honeymoon in Iceland.
    We stayed in Grindavik, and had an epic tome at the blue lagoon. I'm fascinated watching your channel...your accent lends an authentic and personable. I'm heartsick watching the threat to Grindavik, but so interested in the geology and it's changes. Thank you for your hard work creating this content ❣️

    Good report 👍🏻 as always, our Volcano 🌋 Reporting friend Hildarmenn!
    Is it possible, to superimpose a
    Compass 🧭 readings on some videos shots of the 🌋?
    For example, @02:02 when Eruption began, @02:41 wide view of area etc.
    It would be SO HELPFUL for us to determine which directions the most lava flows? Or even put marker where Grendavik, Blue Lagoon, Power Plant & yes, even Reykjavik directions?
    Who expected THIS Eruption, certainly not the experts or they’d never have allowed the citizens of Grindavik back home yesterday.

    Well so far it looks like Ieland couldn't have been luckier the way its looking. If it doesn't go to Grndivik and it looks like it wont, it may fill in the lower area in the area opposite of the power plant and stay there and it doesn't look like it is going to hit the power plant so far then boy oh boy it could have been a lot worse. If it had gotten longer or even stayed at the same power and length as when it erupted then Id say both town and power plant would have been taken out if the berm didn't work 100%. Looks like we got another tourist eruption lol.. I heard they may let everyone in to get close in a few days once they know its going to stabilize. Thanks for the update!

    Looking forward to flying to iceland on 1st January. I hope that the eruption will still be active, but of course without further damage to infrastructure and to Grindavík.
    The show from the plane is so insane. In 2022 we had the chance to experience the eruption.

    • @Hliarmenn
      @Hliarmenn  9 місяців тому +4

      It's unlikely it'll increase a lot again, although more vents could open. There's no chance that we'll get an explosive phase, eruptions in the peninsula are mostly effusive with just a few exceptions.

    I enjoyed this video as always. Thanks for that. That was a spectacular eruption and I am thankful that nobody was hurt. It was unbelievable. You have got a glimpse of what was happened as Laki erupted. Can you imagine a fissure 30 km long? I can’t…

    • @Hliarmenn
      @Hliarmenn  9 місяців тому +2

      Yeah, exactly, I was just thinking that when they said the output could've been as high as 400 m3/s.
      I personally think it was somewhere between 100 and 200 m3/s as Skaftáreldar would've been somewhere between 700 and 1000 m3/s. Crazy to think the fissure in Skaftáreldar was more than 7 times the length of this one.
