    The dramatic natural changes in such a short amount of time is incredible to witness. I’m quite thankful for your great reporting! Takk! Where I live in SW Washington USA, I’m surrounded by long- dormant shield volcanos. It’s awesome to see the birth of one. I hope to visit Iceland again soon to see for myself.

      @@eastwind6820 there are shield volcanoes in SW Washington State east of the Cascades. They belong to the Hotspot that is currently under Yellowstone. They were created as the North American plate slid over the Hotspot. There are shield volcanoes trailing into southern Idaho all the way into northwestern Wyoming to Yellowstone.

      @@eastwind6820 yes those are stratovolcanos, but I’m speaking about those in the Boring Volcanic Field, Indian Heaven Volcanic field, and the Marble Mountain-Trout Creek Hill volcanic field. Big Lava Bed in the Gifford Pinchot national forest is the most recent cinder cove that was active ~8000 years ago. Trees still barely grow there. I spend a lot of time up in those woods. Interesting how the volcanoes opening is narrowing. Always thought that the area that allows the magma to escape to the side will be blocked off making it more like the traditional looking stratovolcano. Find it hard to see the crater becoming completely blocked as the magma needs somewhere to escape. Just fascinating to view all this. Many thanks to our intrepid reporter Valur, from Kris.🇦🇺

    • @paulmichaelfreedman8334
      @paulmichaelfreedman8334 3 роки тому +3

      It's all about pressure. The fact the magma has to rise higher to the lip means more pressure is needed (and given), which is about 4 bars per 10 meters given the density of the lava. This could also open up old vents and/or completely new ones.

    One classification though....the lava fountain is not the same but less visible because the height of the cone has increased. The lava pool has become higher along with the cone. There is less dissolved gasses in the lava coming to the surface right now...so there is less 'geysiring' because of this...it's more effusive

    Magnificent work, guys! Having become addicted to your channel, I can add now how close Icelandic and Spanish languages are: Valur sounds like Valor (courage) and Art in Spanish is Arte. So, quite apart in distance, so close in meaning. Muchas gracias from Spain!

    We literally just stopped our crying five year old (lego dispute with older sister) by saying, "Do you want to come see Valur? He has a new haircut..." :-)

      How far is the vvolcano from where people are staying?

      @@6nferno - I was astonished at how close these people were observing!!! I did not think that one can in any way predict what might happen at any given time! How could they not know that the wall might not fail right in front of them???

    Amazing. I watch the various live streams of the volcano, but they give no sense of scale at all. The landscape is so barren and there are no landmarks for reference. The volcano could be only waist high for all I can tell. Only when watching your videos do I realize the size and scope of this ongoing eruption.

    The volcano is absolutely just amazing to watch, i never get tired of watching it. plus its amazing at how much the volcano has changed the surrounding terrain in such a short time, it really is like being on an alien planet. Everyone there in Iceland stay safe!

      Imagine being on the crusty black with the hot molten rock underneath... thats what our crust is ontop of the magma... we float on hot red molten rock, drifting slowly as our rock icebergs collide and submerge...

    There's so much lava coming out of the volcane and it's still increasing. It's amazing to see the structers that the lava makes and the speed it flows.

    Thank you Valur for your wonderful news stories, not just of the volcano, but on other Icelandic news. We LOVE Art's videography. We thoroughly enjoy your walks with Polly on the streets of Reykjavik while updating us on the latest news. We have been watching you since this new volcano area started earlier this year. We are thrilled that we got to come to Iceland May 28-June 9 (our 4th time!), not only to see the volcano but to visit and travel with our Icelandic friends to the Westfjords, one of our favorite places in Iceland. It was amazing to see the difference in the volcano area between visit #1 on May 28 and visit #2 on June 7. And now we are seeing even more stunning changes in less than a week after our return! Happily, since I subscribe to your online newsletter, my husband and I were able to order our Fire Geysir Bomber Jackets - on May 28, our first day in Iceland, while doing our mini-quarantine in our Reykjavik hotel while awaiting our Covid test results (which we got 6 hours after the tests at Keflavik Airport)!!! They arrived at our house the day after we got home - not only perfect timing, but they fit us perfectly. We continue to watch all of your reports -- keep them coming!
