Lyrics:
We are the youth
We'll take your fascism away
We are the youth
Apologise for another day
We are the youth
And politicians are so sure
We are the youth
And we are knocking on death's door
Never knew we were living in a world
With a mind that could be so sure
Never knew we were living in a world
With a mind that could be so small
Never knew we were living in a world
And the world is an open court
Maybe we don't want to live in a world
Where innocence is so short
We'll make it up to you
in the year 2000 with...
Never knew we were living in a world
With a mind that could be so sure
Never knew we were living in a world
With a mind that could be so small
Never knew we were living in a world
And the world is an open court
Maybe we don't want to live in a world
Where innocence is so short
We'll make it up to you
In the year 2000
Build it up for you
In the year 2000
Make it up to you
In the year 2000
Build it up for you
In the year 2000 with you
Never knew we were living in a world
With a world that could be so sure
Never knew we were living in a world
With a mind that could be so small
Never knew we were living in a world
And the world is an open court
Maybe we don't want to live in a world

I worked on this clip. When the water cannon and smoke kicks in thats what I was involved in. It's spooky how this song / clip were so ahead of the time. Considering whats gone on during 2020 / 2021 Silverchair certainly had a crystal ball.
Politics has always been a contentious issue. But I know what you mean

That crystal ball was on the cover of The Door.
We'll be doing this until the end of time 😔

You can always go back & watch these shows & hear these songs on UA-cam but you can never recapture the magic of an era as it was happening. Me. In an italian rock station "Freak" would be aired non stop, but thats Just about it just as if they were a one Hit Wonder, there was no way of hearong them since Freak. I am so amazed at discovering how big they were.
These kids were ridiculously talented, and had some seriously deep lyrics. Especially considering when Frogstomp was released they were like 15, and most of it was written when they were even younger than that. Still an album I will throw on from time to time for a rocking shot of 90's nostalgia and teenage angst. 🤘
With a CD no doubt :P

Eu ia comentar exatamente a mesma coisa! Lembro até hoje de assistir esse clipe na MTV em 1999 e foi a música que me fez virar fã de Silverchair. Comprei o cd do Neon Ballroom e não sei como não furou de tanto que ouvi na adolescência. Nostalgia pura!

I listened to this song in 1999 at the age of 24 and I'm almost 44 now, holy crap.
U & me both !How the f time flies huh 😵
22 and 43 here. You know what song really hits me with that holy crap moment? Blink 182 - What's My Age Again. It's that "nobody likes you when you're 23" line.
I'm turning 41 and still rock this song
Wish I was you
Late to respond to this, but I first heard this in late 1999 at the age of 13. I turned 34 this year, and it's frightening. I was too young to really appreciate the lyrics back then, but I have to say that Daniel Johns was really ahead of his time. I had a classmate who was a huge Silverchair fan. I ended up buying this album just to see what the deal was.
Never was happier than being 17 with a distortion pedal playing power chords to this song.
Silverchair is such an underrated band!
I love how their "music style" changed over the years... and they are fantastic no matter what kind of music they play!
Daniel Johns is a great singer/songwriter!!
Blown away by how truthful this song is and still so relevant.
Loved Silverchair since Frogstomp, such an under rated band

Took me 20 years to understand this song. I was 16 when I heard it, now I am 36. And now it finally means something to me. We are still the youth of the year 2000, and now is our time.
Our time to do hwhat?

It’s been known since the 70’s, yet ppl my age are still buying fast fashion clothes and all that shit. Social/racial injustice and sexism that, a 100%. We want a change but older generations are still rascist and sexist (and their kids are too !!). But its gotten worse with smartphones and the internet, everyone hates on everybody, we don’t read books anymore, nor take the time to sink into an activity. Even that new thing ‘dark kitchens’ ? Ppl don’t even take the time to make food ! Everything’s fast, then forgotten, then critisized. I’m kinda freaked out. Talking abt the themes of this song, the world rn um.. Ukraine, Fckin Russia, thank god Macron has been re elected instead of Marine LePen (I’m from France) that rascist extremist buttonhead otherwise I would’ve thrown myself off a cliff. A nice heavy song for Silverchair. I remember wishing that they did more heAvy songs like this
Yeah, Neon ballroom was not as heavy as frogstomp or freak show but it has their heavy moments, specially spawn again which is their most aggressive song ever written by them (in terms of music, not lyrically)
How is spawn again NOT lyrically aggressive? These are the facts so eat what you murder. Eight billion killed for human pleasure.
Tesla Death Ray kinda, the lyrics are pro-peta which I think is pretty acceptable considering many animals are endangered but the music needs a different kind of lyrics..like pure massacre
Rodrigo Manuel Ibarra Juarez
pro animal doesn't mean pro peta. it's a cause he was very angry about. if he wasn't the song wouldn't exist so 'should have used different lyrics' doesn't make much sense.
