@@brianmcguire5175 Thank you for your kind words (more often than not, UA-cam is nothing more than a nest of trolls who spend their days judging and criticizing others when they have never played an instrument in their life) and yes, you are not wrong, I am a drummer. and Thomas Lang and many other drummers (the list is very long but I will tell you that the one who lit the fuse and made me want to learn to play the drums was Jeff Porcaro) have and continue to be a great influence on me, in terms of publishing videos on UA-cam of mine playing because maybe one day I will do it, I don't rule it out but it is not something that I seriously consider today, in any case I deeply appreciate your words and I wish you much success in your life.

So that’s what having each limb truly untethered from one another looks like. This is the culmination of tens of thousands of hours spent practicing with serious intent and dedication. There’s no other way to learn how to do this.

There’s really only a very few who have the potential to learn how to do something like this. Some people maybe easier than others but their is some things that can’t be taught or learned. DNA

@@drummerdoingstuff5020 I agree. Clearly not everyone has the aptitude to learn something like this, no matter how much they try. Training limb independence is one of the most discouraging parts of drum training, in my opinion. I've made good progress but I'm basically still at level 1 compared to someone like Thomas Lang.
It's really frustrating when there are patterns and polyrhythms you want to learn and play but your body and brain just can't seem to get it. Seeing Thomas blaze through these insane patterns with seemingly no effort at all is just wild. Of course he's been training and practicing for decades but some of what he's playing is probably just impossible for many people.
Don't even get me started on his little lesson on dynamic variance. Alternating between soft, medium and hard hits on different drums with different limbs simultaneously, that stuff is unbelievably advanced.

This is not something seen often in drummers as it's it's mostly one or the other - either groove and feel (but no killer chops) or extreme chops, yet robotic and "lifeless" grooves.

Still very much appreciate what Thomas is doing! I saw his clinic at Adams Drumworld, Ittervoort (NL) Yesterday too, which was great! Always impressive to see how Thomas pushes drumming interdependence & technical prowess. 🐙🥁 I very much enjoy seeing him apply these skills in a musical context through his multi-pedal orchestrations and 80’s-inspired ‘ProgPop’ album. Thomas is a super friendly guy too! Even after years & years of putting in the work, still taking his time to elaborate on each question asked and showing some sincere attention, interest & appreciation to the attendees during & after the clinic. 🙏
However... speaking of MPO's though, I find it a bit weird that (besides Terry Bozzio, Marco Minnemann, Virgil Donati & many latin / world drummers) there's no mention of Pete Zeldman @34:08 ...!? Credit where credit is due! Pete Zeldman (RIP) was definitely one of the pioneers of multi-pedal orchestrations in the 80's, utilizing incredible poly rhythms & poly-meters through limb interdependence.
If you hear this name for the first time, definitely check out his albums 'Other not Elsewere' and 'Twilight Walks Over' and the video release 'Enigma'. There's also a great tribute/memorial video on UA-cam by his students, friends, fellow band members, co-musicians and drumming colleagues and lastly, the interview Vinnie Colaiuta's 'Breakfast with Vinnie' podcast, done with Pete in the last days of his life. Pete was a very impressive individual, going a depth with this material I've (still) never heard anyone do. Total recommendation!

What a great video - thanks to drumeo and Thomas for this excellent drum content here. Especially Thomas' explanations towards the end are so important, where he talks about the why you should also try to push yourself and the limits - and try new things. Often nowadays there is only paste and copy or pushing one aspect (e. g. technique or speed) - but not so much focus on real creativity. And of course every advanced musician knows, that there is a difference between this kind of practice and musical decisions! And Thomas has always been a true inspiration and master on another level to look up in a very positive way. Good to see after all these years, that he is absolutely enthusiastic and even more authentic and in the moment. Have to play drums now - thank you! 😜 All the best to all of you! Although his execution and examples are often complex and mind blowing to watch/hear (because that’s just the level he works at) you can still apply his concepts at any level of playing - try something new, push yourself to break out of the cliches. Love the little dynamics exercise he got Brandon to do try out. Will be having a go at that later. Excellent content once again Drumeo and amazing that you offer it up for FREE to the world. Thank you. Steve

This is all incredible. But the displaced paradiddles last live session was otherworldly. I still can't get over it.

Thomas Lang is an amazing-out of this world drummer on all aspects. But on the topic that is discussed at 15:29, there is a reason why this kind of drum beats are iconic and remembered. And i tend to think this reason is a mixture of simplicity and musicality. Take almost every iconic drum fill/beat (in the air tonight, we will rock you, come together etc) and Thomas Lang could literally play it with one hand. But if the same beats incorporated 15 rototoms 4 cowbells 2 hats and double kick, it would just not be the same. Simplicity is key to making iconic parts, especially in popular music. Thanks for having all of these legends providing us all of these amazing insights in drumming!

This drumming is so out of control. Just crazy, crazy playing, as expected. But what I wasn't expecting was hearing Thomas talk about the future of drumming, and where he thinks the space for innovation is ... I loved that, really interesting stuff... better get working on my left foot, for starters!
