One thing that’s really skillful about Zach is that even though he makes these beautfuly choppy and complex grooves/fills he never leaves the pocket, he’s always on time, he’s got a great internal sense of Rythm that you can only see from very skilled drummers
@@EthanHGray ong, which is the platonic ideal of a drummer, someone who can keep the rythm steady for other musicians, while also expressing themselves with complex and musically pleasing rhythms and fills that are enjoyable for them to play
@@jimi1943 You shouldnt make a blanket statement that somebody "has groove" when he is black. Or rather, you should explain that he possesses groove due to his training and experience as a musician. actually, i think this would have needed even a triggerwarning, when worded like this!
Well he has been in demand for awhile. Since as long as I can remember people having been saying is name in comment sections and live streams all over this channel ever since he blew up a year or two ago
Zack is so fantastic often times because of what he does NOT play. Phenomenal phrasing and when it gets busy he always pulls back, leaves musical space, and stays in time. Super fun to watch too!
Are you kidding. He is literally the definition of obnoxious g-chops diarrhoea. Larnell Lewis is a far more musical player and is technically better than Zack anyway. Or check out Chris Allison’s drumming on Impulse Voices. Amazing use of space whilst still being very rhythmically complex
man I just love how he takes jazz drumming concepts and kind of reworks them into more modern settings and applications to add a really skillful flavor to more pop-oriented drum patterns
Was fortunate enough to meet and have multiple conversations with Zack at Pasic. By far one of the nicest people I’ve met and this is so deserving for him!
Zack is one of the few pros who genuinely make me want to be a better drummer. Also love out popular that dope Outro track is getting. Dude deserves all the opportunity!
Excellent drummer!!! I've been following his UA-cam channel for a while now... he seems like a very humble guy and deserves all the success in the world!!!
You can have chops all day, and be good at them, but learning to properly execute them in tasteful waste that aren't just interjected into the groove is the true mastery of your learnings. Love this man and so glad to see him on Drumeo. One of the best YT drummers out there right now.
“Cause at the end of the road… you’re just gonna… alright I don’t wanna get dark” Absolutely incredible 😂 so true though. Well played Zack phenomenal playing.
been following zack since the end of 2021. incredible how far he's come. Actually a few days ago I searched up zack grooves drumeo, couldn't find anything. and now this. this ist truly amazing
i love this guy zack, he is just him , not arrogant, just open, very muscial guy and not complex, this is how it suppose to be, everybody understands this and my compliments towards him
So happy to see this. Been a fan of this young man for a while now. Such an exciting talent and personality. Really looking forward to watching his career grow. His brother is also an excellent musician.
Dude I’m so happy he’s made it to this point in his career. It’s nice to grow up with your favorite creators yk? I think that’s the best part about UA-cam for me
I think I've now discovered something I want more than anything in the world right now. Drumeo has done some collabs or drum battles between legends before, and now I want to see them get Zach and Jojo in the same room. I would pay so much to be able to see that tbh
god damn this guy's dynamics are second to none! im a death metal drummer and can play blastbeats and double bass above 250 bpm but this is just so much more insane imo, the phrasing and the groove are so cool! definitely would love to learn this style of playing
Nothing wrong at all with death metal but if you are trying to be more employable as a drummer ,learn the jazzy fusion gospel stuff. Vice versa if you’re a jazzer try to learn a thrash metal song here and there
Fast technical Death Metal drumming is more demanding than anything gospel or fusion most of the times especially when you are playing to a click. It is the physicality that is simply unmatched by any other genre. You need very good technique too. And you can play very complicated patterns too, just at very high speed. As Zack said in the beginning: He didn't know what he is playing most of the time. Which is fine and all. But improvisation is always easier than playing something in only one particular way (Tomas Haake of Meshuggah is a good example of this, although there might be minor changes compared to the records sometimes when he plays live). But there are a lot of drummers in modern metal like him. I don't get it when people try to explain that metal is easier than gospel or jazz. It is first of all different, but because of the unmatched use of doublebass which it requires, it is more technical than anything else most of the times. Thrash metal on the other hand is easy to play because it is the slow and basic version of death metal or black metal. Employable is also relative. I doubt that a gospel player is employable for a metal gig. If you like playing at churches.... I mean everybody is different but I didn't went to churches for like 7 years and I didn't missed it at all.
@@Backpflaume666 i feel you on the employability! definitely couldnt get a gospel dude to fill in for death metal, maybe thrash but for sure not any extreme metal. i guess for me whats interesting about this style of drumming is the dynamics and the interesting patterns which metal lacks because of its constant need for extremity and prowess. for me ive just wanted to explore more textures since its been a long time of just practicing single strokes for fills and blast beats. but then again i dont think theres too much of this gospelly style that could be introduced into death metal, john longstreths drumming is very chop oriented and does alot of cool weird stuff when he blasts but its tough to rely upon chops when the songs demand power and agression. its just awesome how the drums have soo many different approaches!
So excited to see ZackGrooves make it to the big time of Drumeo! I have been playing for 20 years, always feel like "man, I am pretty good." and then I watch him and I realize I am, in fact, not good, lol.

That stack is phenomenal, legit sounds like a clap alongside the snare. And great playing from Zack of course.
Exactly as intended! Pretty sure that's a "smack stack" from Meinl. Super cool sound and masterfully implemented in his playing
