The guy went from failing at table slamming to staring and talking down prosecutors, judges and the second highest authority in the entire country without even breaking a sweat!
Honestly, Ryuunosuke is the most badass person to even stand in court in any of the games.

@@hunbi1875 True but I think this is more impressive as, for one thing, Ga'ran is a joke. She could have ended the trial before it got to the point where she threatened execution, but she didn't and got cocky instead turning it into a game of whether she could crush the defense or not. Vortex may have been the judge in the trial but as pointed out several times he was limited by the law as well as the gallery who could oust him as magistrate. For another, Vortex is the chief magistrate of the Great British Empire, which means also that he was the chief magistrate of Canada, India, Australia, and many other territories of the time. So while not the highest authority, the implication is that he had many parts of the world under his thumb. It's no exaggeration to say that the fate of not just London, or even Britain itself, was at stake here, but countless lives and justice internationally weighed entirely on Ryuunosuke Naruhodou. And come the last trial, he performed outstandingly.
@@digitalnative5678 i mean, Vortex fully COULDVE stopped it. And, none of it mattered. He wouldve still gotten away had sherlock holmes not solved the issue. Sherlocks the one who kinda saved the day. Apollo did it on mainly on his own. Also, i know england had alot of power but he was in charge of law which doesnt have as much power out of country as you might be thinking.
@@hunbi1875 True, I will state that I understand what you mean there, and it makes me review some things. When they talk of "The Great British Empire," I took it as the implication that it meant for all of it and all work under him. Though given that the cases of instances have only come from inside of Britain is evidence of the contrary. On the matter of him possibly stopping that, he was still in a position granted by promotion rather than someone who held hereditary power. Funny enough, both Ga'ran and Vortex fell to the same flaw, which was by what put them in that power, Ga'ran being the s being the lack of spiritual power she held to need her position, and Vortex being the support of the queen upon which he based his "reign." You are right, Holmes was indeed the one who masterminded everything into working out, but Ryunosuke deserves a great deal of credit, since Holmes needed him to push forward the trial able to be listened to by the Queen. He had to get to the point that all information was disclosed, and especially the particularly decisive evidence in the form of Klimt/Klint's will.
But I do admit to being rather harsh on Apollo in my statement, and not giving him his own credit, so I apologize and concede there.
I do find it rather amusing that the final piece of evidence is a Scarlet Letter, the first Sherlock Holmes story.
And last video they were talkin about the Sign of the Four! Those Capcom writers did an amazing homework!
The Scarlet Letter is not a Holmes story, it's a romantic novel by Hawthorne, and "letter" refers to letters of the alphabet in that case.
Hate to correct y'all, but the first Sherlock Holmes story is named "A Study in Scarlet". There ain't no letters in the name.
There does appear a rather "scarlet" writing made in rather "scarlet" letters in that story though, which was quite important. But I know better than anything if I'm spoiling something in a UA-cam comment section.

This duology became my favorite Ace Attorney story in the franchise. Amazing story, amazing characters, great unpredictable plot twists, amazing soundtrack, etc. Just amazing.
Although that deus ex machina at the end is a bit out there, it was absolutely hilarious seeing the guards trying to grab Holmes and Vortex losing it after the Queen revoked his powers. That combined with Holmes and Iris tending to come up with technology way ahead of their time and that initially off-putting deus ex machina becomes much more acceptable to me.
Funny how this duology is my fav followed by Miles Edgeworth 2, which are the three games that never got officially translated.

And finally, thank you and God Bless to the translators who allowed us to be able to be witness to such an amazing story. I know it took a lot of time and work, but know that I, as well as everyone else who watched will be eternally grateful for your efforts.

It's just a miracle that Naruhodou and Susato didn't get assassinated by the British government. They exposed too much things, and I can imagine how the British Empire got internationally humiliated when Vortex's public trail finished:
1.A noble man being a killer, and then got blackmailed to kill other people.
2. Then they framed a student from another country for the crime, making dirty trades with him including a fake execution and a promised jail-break, but betrayed him anyway.
3. Ruined the lives of a promising scientist-to-be, Enoch Drebber, and the top jailer, Everyday Mittlemont, for this plot. The former one just told the truth and the later one knew nothing about the plan.
4. The top forensic doctor, Watson, was the essential part of the whole fraud, got killed, and his assistant-back-in-the-time, Courtney Sithe, participated in another case forging evidence.
5. The famous detective Tobias Gregson himself was the brain of the Reapers, working with a professional assassin to kill people, and the whole Yard knew nothing about it.
6. Blackmailing another country's minister Jigoku to apply some assassination missions.
7. And who's behind this? Hart Vortex, the Chief Justice of London, who gathered people from all over the world to attend the conference.
8. On top of that, British government, the loyal family or even the Queen knew nothing about it for 10 years until some random yong men from far east (which I think they loathe back in that time or even now) exposed the story in just a couple of days of trials.
Ryunosuke wasn’t assassinated because susato would just do a ‘takedown’ on anyone who tried 😉
No wonder Mikotoba told Naruhodo to get the fuck out of the country once the trial was done.
@@Rellik165 Huh. I hadn't thought of it that way. There was already a reason for why Mikotoba wanted Naruhodo to return to Japan, obviously, but I had never considered that there was another reason for it.
The fact that this game never got and will never see a Western release is a goddamn travesty in the gaming industry as a whole....

"He who fights with monsters must ensure he himself does not turn into one." That was a post I made many, many months ago on a very earlier episode. And I wasn't wrong. Each culprit, from Mr. Reporter, Ms. Green, Sir Robot Dance, Buff Judge, and now, Totally-not-Damon Gant... Regardless of my weird nicknames for them, this really does hammer in the definition of 'Resolve'. It's my own philosophy to say: "The most important part of any story is the Lesson." And this. This magnificent beauty, over the course of not 5, but 10 cases, 10 I say! The story, from when Mr. Naruhodou was on the Defendant's chair, to him dethroning the Lord Chief Justice... What a spectacular story, one that simply everyone has to remember for the ages.

You know, all the criminals in each case is basically a “don’t become the demon while chasing them down” situation.
SPOILERS:
Case 1: Reporter kills racist assassin, convicts innocent. Case 2: Ms.Green takes revenge for her husband, convicts innocent.
Case 3: University student murders the man who destroyed his dream and life, sacrificing innocent.
Case 4: A Judge devoted to persecuting criminals kills a good man trying to reach freedom, and convicts an innocent to “protect” the law’s standing.
Case 5: Evil law man who surely did good, but sacrificed innocents to succeed.

It was this moment that I felt so crushed about Jigoku. Of course at first you feel bad that he was forced to silence, having to do the dirty work himself because he was under control... but ultimately in the end he protected only himself. "For the good of their countries"? I find it hard to believe. Suddenly the only two cases we known him a judge for is so sinister and I feel so betrayed... I wonder how he sleeps at night, then, knowing he killed his own friend and can still look at Yujin in the eye.
Even so, I love his character. That's a lot of depth from someone we've only known for a bit, and I can't say I hate him lol

I used to be quite angry at the deus ex ending. Especially at the use of holographic technology (and the wireless transmitter dolls, too.) But, after some research I'm actually not that annoyed by it anymore. I didn't know about the Pepper's Ghost Illusion (invented in the 1860's) and I wasn't aware that radio communication was invented, specifically in England, around 1896. So now it's less of a stretch that Holmes was able to pull off his ruse at the end there.
Though, I still would have liked a Closing Argument styled segment but directed at the court audience, split into 6 large groups, and Ryu would be able to show the contradictions between their justifications for Vortex's actions. Then after stalling for long enough Sherlock bursts into the court on a horse with Queen Victoria, or something.
Anyway, happy to be less mad about this ending.
Yeah, the fact Vortex didn’t even tried to argue with the attorney but just trying everytime to end the trial was so annoying.
But i guess he knew Naruhodu would try to use the Closing argument so he managed to make a trial without any possibility of using this trick, even with the members of the legal system.
After all, as a judge, he’s very powerful with the trial procedures...
I think now I can safely say after many years of wondering that 36:00 is officlly the single greatest breakdown in the entire series

I love this series so much. Even when things are getting serious, you can rely on the characters for humor. I mean, just look at 31:07. The bailiffs’ animations are amazing, and Holmes dancing is the best part.

Man, it really pisses me off he chose to shoot Genshin instead of Enoch Drebber plus he still could have persuaded Enoch to keep the escape a secret but he still chose Murder. Cos’ Murder was always the answer to Sir Vortex.
Y’know I was sure I was gonna complain about the hologram system that should be a speaker system but that was so charmingly hilarious so it’s a pass.
Man, that was such a beautiful ending from the voice acting to the cinematography. *wipes tears* It’s bittersweet that this might be the last we’ll see of this world and it’s characters because this is the peak of world building and character writing the series has ever reached. You can tell how much passion Takumi had for this pet project that Capcom let him run with, somewhat.
Lastly, thanks for subbing this for us, the fanbase, so we can experience this great journey. It can’t have been easy with Capcom chasing you down and making new channels and such.

It kinda makes sense becasue Genshin knew about the will and probably hated being manipulated by Vortex, so he was tying up loose ends (as we've seen with his other murders) as Drebber was less of a threat compared to a man that would escape the reaper.
I admit it seemed convuluted, but its not too major imo.
For you to fill the flaw holes of the villain with better killing alternatives, I must say i'm a little terrified; you may have some future as a calcullating mastermind behind a exchange assassin program. ;)
By the way, I'm also impressed by the channel efforts to avoid Capcom dubious policies; good think now there's an english translation In the game made by some fan!
To be honest, I think Vortex would have killed Genshin either way.
He did say the only reason for the Escape Plan was to retrieve Klimt's will. And he was already prepared to search Genshin's body to retrieve it.
To make Jigoku kill Genshin was a double security check: not killing the man himself and to silence Genshin forever. Seing as how he was killing everyone connected to that case, he had already set in mind he had to kill him at some point.
Sir Hart Vortex. The Ancenstor of Damon Gant. Defeated by Wright, Edgeworth and Edgeworth but Too much Wine in his system.
Wright be like: "Gee Edgeworth! How come your mom lets you have two ancestors?"
Part of me wishes we could appreciate the characters for being their own characters and not arbitrarily connecting them back to other characters.
I like how he gave you the impression he was the villain from the moment you met him but you had to spend 2 games figuring out what he did and how he did it
The clapping, the manipulation, the coercions. No doubt this was a nod to Grant. This was a very entertaining series. It’s really sad that the translation never made it...

I don't really see much of it... even though he has 3 separate conspiracies to convict him for and he's the judge which is way cooler than Gant who was retroactively added to the trilogy and has no relevance outside his case.

I doubt I'd ever have been able to experience this adventure without you. There was a lot of ups and downs and even an entire year where nothing seemed to happen, so I'm truly happy to have been able to see the end of it. Thank you so much for continuing the project to the very end. You guys did an amazing job and brought to light the amazingness that is Dai Gyakuten Saiban.

I was actually genuinely disappointed that Van Zieks never smiles. I was literally waiting for it till the very end of the credits, but nothing. It didn't ruin the game, of course not, but I would have loved the slightly out of character moment of pure happiness and ernestness.

ThatsStrategy That was an amazing moment when I discovered it years ago since Damon Gant is my fave Ace Attorney villain.
Long before the second game was released, even after seeing Vortex just a few times in the first game, I was already commenting on how he reminded me of Damon Gant. It's now clear to me that that was no coincidence. But considering how Vortex was British and Gant was Japanese, I wonder... Are they actually blood relatives, or was there some other sort of connection between them?
Indeed, grant that it was a giant irony... Gant clapped for his loss, here Vortex clapped for his great escape since he wasn't include with anything... until Queen banished his duty from him.

The Great Ace Attorney 1 and 2 are not just ace attorney at its finest, but amazing experiences filled to the brim with unforgettable characters, endless charm, and a gripping narrative. I never imagined that there would ever be an Ace Attorney game topping AAI2 but I was just completely blown away by this game. Easily the best in the series, and thank you so much for translating it.
Some thoughts:
Such an unbelievably good cast of characters. Everyone has well thought out interactions and characters develop greatly over the course of the entire duology. There were so many hidden relationships at play throughout the entire story, and seeing characters play multiple important roles made the cast feel much more alive than in any other game.
Sherlock is absolutely my favorite character in the series, with the gradual reveals of how competent he really was making excellent use of the contrast with his usual goofball self. Seeing him finally show his skills for real when the stakes were at the highest was immensely satisfying, repeatedly outmaneuvering Vortex even from the very beginning. On top of that, he is so incredibly thoughtful even though he tries to hide it, shown by how he has been screwing with Naruhodou the entire time to help him grow as well as his other relationships with Mikotoba and Iris.
I do think there were points that were rushed and needed more time to improve the execution of the ideas. Gregson left the story way too abruptly, where there should've been more buildup to his role in the conspiracy. Vortex was a nuanced villain who threw me off because he has been nothing but cooperative with Naruhodou throughout the series, even though he was obviously going to be the big bad the moment he was introduced. However, I think we needed more backstory for him to flesh out his motivations, or at the very least some flashback as to how he decided to blackmail Klimt to begin with. Iris's final technology is also way too advanced and should've been retooled to be more realistic, like cutting out the projection part and just recording audio.
If I'm not mistaken, there should've been a case about the stolen collar. ( The treasure Pretency wanted to take). A hidden mughsot of Selden is a proof of this
Same thoughts but sadly, money, and therefore Capcom was an issue. Still better than the last 2/3 main Ace Attorney games though, and despite its flaws I'd put this one above the original trilogy.
I am extremely biased towards Sherlock being my all-time favourite Ace Attorney character because of how unpredictable and entertaining he was while still driving the plot.
Spoilers:
Across the whole duology the running gag of Sherlock popping up out of nowhere just continued to escalate. This is the craziest of them all and for some people breaks all immersion. For me, it's incredibly hilarious, but I know it's not perfect. It's not exactly our win, it's Sherlock's. The win is based on a bizarre technicality that was at least foreshadowed by having the doll used twice prior in the case. There's no other solution when the villain has that much power and the audience is on his side. Is it a satisfying conclusion for the player? Depends. For me, yes, because it's hilarious. I know I was intimidated when I saw Vortex as the judge and instantly knew he would be the final culprit. I just didn't know how we'd arrive there since there's no feasible way to do it through the usual Ace Attorney courtroom system. It is what it is. I love this duology of games. Thank you, translators.
I feel like Sherlock insisting that "teleportation is impossible" in case 3 may have been intended as foreshadowing for his final appearance.

Gotta agree with you there, other viewers have classified Sherlock's involvement as a "Deus Ex Machina," or an extremely convenient way (really a miracle) to wrap up a story when the deck is literally stacked against the protagonists in a story. But at the same time, despite the "bizarre technicality," it was satisfying because it's DGS's Sherlock Holmes, you never know what to expect, and it was beyond hilarious!
To me, I find it a satisfying way to win. While Holmes and Iris were the final key to taking Vortex down, I'd still say it's not just their victory, but just about EVERYONE'S victory. It took the combined effort of so many people to bring such a victory that its not really any one person's victory. Naruhodo and Asougi may have led the charge, but had it not been for the help of people like Holmes, Mikotoba, Barok, Gina, Genshin Asougi, and just about every witness in this trial, they wouldn't of even lasted a day. Holmes and Mikotoba definitely were one of the biggest helps, but even they would have been helpless if not for the efforts of everyone else. That the 'Sherlock ex Machina' wouldn't mean crap if not for everyone bringing the truth to light to even make the last push a reality. At least, thats how I feel, that it took a huge amount of people to finally bring light to the darkness of London and no one person can take all the credit.

Welp, I honestly lost hope for a moment when I saw nothing was progressing for a while (far from a reproch, I know it's not easy to translate a full game), only to suddenly ask myself recently "hey, did they finished at least the second or third chapter?" and suddenly, I see everything subbed xD.
I've passed 90% of my free times this last week to watch from Chapter 2 to the Finale almost without stopping.

Oh man so many emotions. I can't believe It's finally over.. I'll miss this game so much and all the characters too. I'm glad I got into this game, it really has its own charm. Ohhhhh man... I dropped off the face of the map for a while, but this ending was SO good!!!!!!! The redo of the "walking" bit that the first game was ended with gave me actual shivers down my spine. The main plot of this game is basically a way better execution of the Dark Age of Law concept in AA5. It lends so much more weight to the "corruption of justice" when we have multiple characters with good intentions (including multiple characters we trust) succumbing to terrible acts for the sake of a greater good.
Multiple times I was expecting a turnaround where it turned out Vortex was framing them (which was a thing that happened constantly in the other games), but no they actually were liars and murderers in spite of people believing in them.
I'm super pissed now that this isn't localized because story-wise these two games are the best in the series.
Also Sherlock Holmes WTF. I can't even argue that this level of fantasy science wasn't foreshadowed because he disproved the teleporter theory, and we took it as fact that he knows enough science to do that. Also his ten year old kid invented a ear-pulling remote earpiece in the 1800s. Also he had heat-vision goggles in the first game, and forensic spray specific to handprints.
Does that mean the anti gravity device is legit???
This pretty much sums up my experience with DGS Sherlock Holmes.

Wow thanks guys. Scarlet Study did great and so did you. I'm so glad I only found this recently though so everything is already complete and I devoured everything (both DGS and DGS2) within **checks pocket watch and snaps fingers** 3 days 16 hours 40 minutes and 56 seconds.
And come to think of it, I don't remember Naruhodou darting his eyes so much in this second installment. Nice way of showing his growth as an attorney and a character. :)
This was both a magical and suspenseful ride. Takumi is a masterful writer, and I thank ye and SS for bringing it to us. As much as I enjoy the main storyline and anticipate more titles (maybe with Phoenix at age 40), I'll sure miss this steampunk universe and its colorful ensemble of characters, and Naruhodou's spirited "IGIARI!" ... DGS 1 and 2 was by far the best game I've ever played. Nearly everything about the games was perfect. A banger soundtrack, good character designs and of course, an outstanding story. It honestly saddens that only a small amount of people will be able to play it since Capcom will never localise the game because this was truly a one of a kind experience.
Big shoutouts to the DGS Translation team and the people at Scarlet Study that both were working hard to give us people that aren't able to speak japanese a chance to play the game. Thank you.

I just finished this, and I wound up watching this after getting as far as possible in the Scarlet Study translation (before case 3 was finished) but holy hell I have to say having played every other Ace Attorney so far besides Spirit Of Justice and Vs. this is probably my favorite game in the series, even beating Investigations 2 for me. DGS1 is a very good game also, I've seen people say it's just ok but the first case is probably my favorite intro in the series, cases 3 and 5 are great (although 5 doesn't feel quite final case-like imo), and the world and character building is great, and all the buildup made this sequel even better. For this game case 1 and 2 are very good and 3 to 5 were just an absolutely insane ride. As someone who loved the series already I don't think I'm ever going to forget these two games. Great job on these translations, and I can only hope more people will experience these games soon with the 1+2 collection that seems to be coming up.

Sherlock coming in at the end to save the day using technology far ahead of its time is indeed a deus ex machina, but it was so hilarious and over the top, so in-character for the quirky detective that I'm willing to give it a pass.

omg late to the party but still had to leave a comment to thank you for subbing an absolutely fantastic game that will probably not get an official English release anytime soon if ever!! Such a bittersweet ending but it fits perfectly with everything that was set up in the first game as well as throughout this game. These characters took a hold of my heart and I doubt that they'll be releasing it anytime soon~
Dare I say, this is up there for one of the best case 5s/ending cases for an Ace Attorney game yet? The writing was excellent, they did a great job closing up loose ends and questions you have from the first game. It reminds me of Trials and Tribulations last case where it felt like a definitive end to the series (obviously T and T was for just the trilogy) and really brought things home.
I would probably put 3rd tied with Dual Destinies final case, maybe barely edging it out. Best two are T and T's final case and Spirit of Justice's final case. I don't wanna go back and watch the Spirit of Justice final case considering what happens to you know who -_-

jesus christ I literally could not handle the amount of cuteness in ALL of that. I find that Ace Attorney is good at showing the bonds of family despite not being blood related. Asougi, Naruhodou and Susato are 100% family even if they aren't blood related. Same goes for the Wright Anything Agency (even if Apollo and Trucy don't know they're half-siblings, they sure act like they do). Not to mention Iris and Holmsies are soo cute, and I love the bond that they have. Even if Phoenix and Edgeworth were never intended to have a romantic relationship, and I honestly wish they did, their canon bond is still truly special, and it's still defintely more than just friends, even if it's not romantic.
There a few things I'm a bit confused about? Although they aren't that bad and certainly do not ruin the game.
1) Why was Van Zieks not present at the end? I understand that even once you have been declared not guilty, you still have to stay in the gaol for a few days for the legal documents and such to go through before you can be released, however I imagine that enough time should have passed for him to be present.
2) Why was Asougi there at the end? He confessed to accepting an assassin mission- and although he didn't kill anyone, it is still illegal to accept such a request, and I believe he made a deal that he would be punished after the trial. Even if Hart Vortex has been imprisoned, the effect of the law is still in place. I assume they gave him grace due to his service to the English courts or something? Or maybe as an apology for wrongfully imprisoning his father and being murdered? Either way, they did not explain why it happened. But I still respect that it was important for Asougi to be there to say his farewells, and for the sword-crossing part.
3) I have not played the DLC case yet, so if this is explained, I will know soon after I play it but, it is never explained why Hosonaga coughs up blood. That sounds like a very critical thing, and not just a "quirky character trait" that he just has. I assumed he would die at some point due to a lung disease or whatever causes him to cough up blood.
4) Does anyone know why Klimt Van Zieks' will was inside Karuma? Like... sure it does kind of make sense in my head, but there also isn't a clear-cut reason. I imagine, that after he wrote the will, he gave it to Asougi. And since Asougi respected Klimt (but couldn't accept his actions), he decided to keep the will secret to keep the Van Zieks name in tact and respected. After all, Barok Van Zieks did nothing wrong, and if his brother were to be revealed as a serial killer, he would take the burn for it despite being innocent. So then, he decided to only leave the truth to his son, giving hint in his will, knowing that he would someday bring justice to his name.
Also, I found the daruma doll at the end a really nice touch! You can examine the doll in Naruhoudo and Susato's office, and it will only have one eye. You're supposed to draw the other eye when you have accomplished you goal, and clearly, Susato and Naruhoudo have achieved it. It might be weird in the localisation, and I'm just lucky to be a weeb and have this particular knowledge of Japanese culture. I'm honestly scared about giving all the Japanese characters English names, as I'm just so attached to Asougi, Susato and Naruhodou now, that I can't imagine them with weird names. Although, part of me doubts it, as they are VERY obviously Japanese, so it's not like you really can give them English names.
same, i was sad that barok wasn't there at the end :( but also, regarding the last paragraph, good news! according to leaks, the main cast's japanese names will be kept the same, except with removed accents (so for example ryuunosuke naruhodou -> ryunosuke naruhodo)!

Vortex always remind me to Gant in so many ways (from apperiance to power position and plot twist) and then when i saw him in this moment 24:45 , clapping insanely when he got discovered just like Gant did, it gave me THE chills. I belive that Vortex is Gant's ancester, i have no evidence but i belive in my testimony
Yeah, litterally, the only major difference they have is that Vortex never took someone’s life by his own hands.
He cowardly used others to commit his crimes by instigating their murders.
Got to finish watching everything, this finale was so touching and heartwarming and enjoyed it so much, hopefully an anime will be made soon in the near future. The story is just so good. Excited if ever a new AA game will be made in the near future as well. Everything was just great and well crafted in all aspects in this game.
