  • Hey UA-cam! I got some feedback about the cost of previous coops, so I kept this one as cheap as possible (without sacrificing some of my must-haves). As I built, I recorded about 10 hours of footage and I will be compiling those into a detailed construction video which will likely be released with plans at the beginning of December. For now, I wanted to give you a sneak peak of how this coop turned out! Let me know if you have any questions and please subscribe :-)
UPDATE: I have added a video showing the building process for this coop, and another video which shows the same process in much more depth, with commentary.

As you said, I joined for the chicken stuff lol. First congrats on the baby (the wife and I have four, 18, 16, 7 & almost 6). The 7 year old loves the videos and says you're a good builder lol.
Planning on getting chickens for the first time 6 to 8. But can't build the Coop yet, I just had surgery and no lifting over 5 lbs for 2 more weeks. I'll get some in the early spring.
Can't wait to see your complete build. Would I need to make this a little bigger for the 6 to 8 that I want? I think your other one was perfect for 8. And any chance you have a rough sketch of how to build it? At least the frame. That would help out tremendously!
I know you did a detailed video for the other one so I may just use that and take some of your new stuff and maybe add my own, if that's okay with you.
And yes I don't mind sending something through paypal

Hey Shawn, thank you for the kind words! This coop would definitely be a little small for 6-8 chickens.
You really want 2-4 square feet of coop space and about a foot of roost space per bird. One nesting box per two birds seems to work out okay.
The 4x4 coop I built for the other video would probably work well for 6-8 chickens. The basic framing of this coop and the other are very similar. www.flickr.com/photos/coopinstructions/albums/

@@E_Fleming , thanks. Somehow I had missed that video but watched it now and will tweak a few things but overall I think it will be perfect. And yes I'll hit you up when I get paid man!

I sent you $5, I know it's not much but I'm off work from surgery and not building mine this way (because of my own circumstances) but this was an inspiration for me so I wanted to give back to you.

Any idea how they are getting in? Or are the chicks getting eaten when they are outside the coop?
