I followed your instructions for this project. Changed a few things. Used asphalt shingles and built my run with 2x4s, cedar fencing, and chicken wire. Start to finish, I spent less than $600 on equipment. I used decking screws for everything thinking of longevity. I only have 5 chickens! Building my gravity watering system in a next couple of weeks. Thanks for the great videos. A reminder for newbies like me, when you frame the coop, don't forget to compensate for the thickness of your walls. I forgot, and have 1/2" overhanging ply on all four sides. Doesn't impact the coop, but does expose your experience.Just remember, it's all math.

I enjoy the watching all kinds of videos on UA-cam. Watching people like yourself make there own chicken coop is amazing with some of the ideas you all come up with, from building to lighting, watering for the chickens, heating and security. I’m no carpenter by any means but, love the ideas you’ve used to make your chicken coop/run. Love your rain water system, and your design of having a weight help assist the door just amazing. Very good idea for the poop clean out to with those trays you can pull out. Very nice 👍🏻! Thanks for sharing!

Considering your neck of the woods, I would definitely invest in half a dozen or a dozen guinea hens! A guinea rooster as well so you have a rotating Guinea flock!
Guineas are far superior to chickens 4 killing ticks, and when it comes to rattlesnakes a flock of guineas can and will actually kill a rattlesnake!
I love the video and I will be available myself of several of your attributes noted in the coop build, especially the Rainwater catchment!
Thank you for producing an excellent product!

You'll have fun researching! Purely poultry is a good go to source for information and a baseline for pricing. If I can do this right here is their URL for their guinea fowl page:
      www.purelypoultry.com/guineas-c-257_157.html
My two faves are the Pearl guineas and the lavender guineas.
If money was not a concern haha, I would choose the Volturi and games because they are nothing less than spectacularly fantastic, truly amazing Birds!
Further, the votes Rings would do wonderfully in your neck of the woods as I understand it!
I hope the hyperlink works and helps you on your studies and I truly do hope you get them because, it will make your farm safer, and you'll have a built-in alarm system for anybody that shows up, because guineas notice everything that happens on a farm!
      Cheers from Central Wyoming!

Guineas will kill baby snakes. I’ve never seen them kill adults, however, they definitely let you know where they are so you can deal with them! Or harass them until they leave! (Not sure how stubborn a rattler is, though...)

When you grabed that snake and showed it upclose i almost fainted! But it's so refreshing to see a man grab a snake like no big deal, nowdays they dont know how to catch a spider. Coop is amazing btw, great engineering you've got going on there. Your family must be proud!

Joe, there are so many things going on in this video I don't know where to begin, Lol. First off, I was saying before a coop you build yourself is going to be less expensive and probably way more durable. The coops in the stores look like they would fall apart in a strong wind😂. There are a lot of great tips in here, I really enjoyed the part about coop security, it gave me some ideas. Great job as always. This is definitely what chicken coops should aspire to be. 👍

Thanks for checking it out Jim! It's not perfect but definitely one of those long term projects that keeps you revisting and re tweaking to get the most out of it....hahah.... or maybe I just like to tinker ;)

Built a few fences with those round timber poles and they always warp! Dad always said, "you pay peanuts, you get monkeys"

I'm going to make a big garden and a chicken coop in the middle of it. so when I let them out they could clean the garden of bugs. plus have the garden fence off. Try it.

Dual purpose animals are great! But just fyi, chickens peck and scratch while searching for bugs, which damages the plants and veggies. Ducks are great because they eat the same pests but don't scratch the plants. I know of several gardeners in the UK that have ducks just for this purpose!
