    Your design is the best I have seen on the internet! How many chickens do you think that size can hold?

    • @brianweekley5700
      @brianweekley5700  3 роки тому +1

      In general, the minimum amount of space is 4 square feet per chicken (run) and 2 square feet (coop). Therefore, my 6x12 run (4x6 coop) should be able to hold 12 (limited by coop). However, it works very well for 7-8.

    • @brianweekley5700
      @brianweekley5700  3 роки тому +2

      @@lisabeautyskindeep The coop is 4 feet wide and the run sections are 3’, 2’, and 3’ for a total width=12’. The reason for the spacing is that the hardware cloth (screen) can be found in 36 and 48” wide rolls. Therefore, if you cut the 48” in half, you’ve got the screen for the 2’ section.

      Yes, it works fine for 7 chickens. The hen house is 4x6 (24 square feet) and the run is 6x12 (72 square feet). In general, the recommendation is to have at least 2-3 square feet per chicken in the coop and at least 8-10 square feet per chicken in the run. Mine exceeds those recommendations.

    This looks like a Carolina coops copy

    • @brianweekley5700
      @brianweekley5700  4 роки тому

      As I stated in the video (Part 1), I took ideas from many different coops I researched online when I designed mine. In reality, my coop probably more closely resembles the “Wichita Coop” in style. I gave a lot of thought to door and window placement and sizing. I also gave a lot of thought to the roost bar/poop board design and egg box location to keep the eggs as clean as possible. I’ve never seen anyone use the type of lift-off window hinges that I used. I agree that Carolina Coops makes a nice product, but most chicken coops are very similar!

  • @alekrunko
    @alekrunko 5 років тому

    Great coop! Although I have to say that many of the features on this coop come from Carolina Coops which is a fantastic chicken coop company! Nothing wrong with adopting features, I just think it's always important to give credit to the original authors :).

    • @brianweekley5700
      @brianweekley5700  5 років тому +5

      Thanks for the comment. Features came from Carolina Coops? Chicken coops are ubiquitous and have been around for hundreds, if not thousands of years. Both the design and features of my coop were certainly inspired by hundreds of photos and videos I looked at when researching coops. I don’t deny Carolina Coops makes a nice product, but what unique invention or feature do you suggest I give them credit for?
